Jay and Jeffrey have the same problem: they want to be haute coutoure designers, but they design edgy, funky, youthful sportswear. They need to follow Chloe Dao's example with QVC. Get a good business manager and create Jay McCarroll for H&M, Jeffrey Sebelia for Brass Plum, and so on. It will fly off the shelves, and I'll be the first one in line! But come on, who's going to buy a $600 sweatshirt?!

I think some people clearly don't understand how things work in this industry. You can't just pick up the phone and say "Hey I'm Jay McCarroll from Project Runway, can you produce AND sell my clothes?"
It takes time, the right people AND A LOT OF MONEY to produce a collection.
Keep us posted. I can't wait to see this. Jay is always entertaining.

just some quick info:
This film is about putting his line together from last Fall (2007). The line is not yet a year old.
snaillady: it's ABOUT his finding a manufacturer and distributor.
bigassbelle: With all due respect, how can you say "what a waste" when Jay is clearly working his ass off to continue in this line of work? One of the themes this film tackles is how television might just give the wrong impression that your life is made once you win a reality tv show.
Last thing: The film is only now finished editing. It's about to go through the festival circuit (which doesn't really get started until the Fall). So don't expect it in public theatres or on netflicks until next year. The website will keep you abreast of where it's playing in festivals.
We hope you all enjoy it. It's fucking hilarious, very informative, and goes into much more depth than Project Jay was allowed to do.

re getting The Deal (or, even, a deal) - Tim recently remarked that the move from Academe to Business has been a real eye-opener for him. I imagine he'd now speak differently about the progress of past winners and participants on PR. Alison recently started selling from her MySpace page. It's a tough, tough business.

Sounds like an interesting film.
I do have to wonder about Jay's perceived difficulties in getting started, though...
I have a friend who designs and produces a somewhat limited line of jackets and coats, and within about a year of getting started, she had her merchandise stocked in boutiques in 7 different countries.
She did it as a way to MAKE money (in the wake of a divorce) so she could put her kids through school: she didn't complain about coming up with money to launch her business...
i so want to see this! it'll be like an updated "unzipped".

Before I had only seen the show stopper and the yellow pantsuit with hot air balloon print(which aren't the best pieces in the collection imo). It is a really good collection. All the piecing with silk looks very expensive.
Jay is a talented guy I hope he makes it.
Jay is talented and hilarious. I will be seeing this for sure.
And I have no doubt the business is a bitch and he is doing it for publicity. And maybe to "unburn" a few bridges? I hope it works, Jay, because your clothes are awesome!

Jay's still one of my favorite designers. I loved his Spring 2007 collection.
Can't wait for this one. Love Jay, loved Project Jay, and really want to see how he's doing now.
I'd like to see this. Project Jay ended much like the Sopranos finale - only in an unintentional way (as if the money ran out, and they got cancelled midway through).
I hope this is on HBO, so it can be unvarnished.

The first part is easily refuted. You may "think" you're the only winner, Jay, but Chloe Dao and Jeffrey Sebilia are also winners of the show. Hip and edgy is quickly old and tired, but classic pieces can last for years.
The second part is purely subjective. But if Jay feels he's an asshole, perhaps he is. It's his choice as to how to portray himself.

It took him over 2 years to prepare one measly runway show. And now he's doing a documentary about this show... that occurred almost a year ago?
Jay is the least productive winner thus far. Chloe and even Sebelia have accomplished far more already within less time.

AFAIK, one of the reasons why Jay have a harder time than others to make a collection, is because he doesn't use leather and he refuses to make his clothing line in sweat shops...

I never saw Project Jay, guess I'll have to hunt that one down--Jay was bloody hilarious on PR1. Does anyone know what the "subway hoagie" comment means? It was on the first episode of S3.
That, and "I didn't steal the bitch's dye...that's FO SHO!!" from S1 are some great zingers.
Oh yeah, the clothes. They are just okay for me, I did appreciate the use of color for his OFW collection in S1 but have not seen anything since.
I've purchased a Chloe dress (the brown/tourquoise pattern) from QVC AND the Jay "bowling bag."
Kara is selling on the cheaper shopping network (HSN?), but her prices are too high for me. Chloe's price point was half of Kara's, and I bet her sales reflected the difference and brought her big-time profits. That's what she seems to want, so good for her. Kara still seems to be striving for a higher-end market, but she pandered to the lower-end cable sales market to debut her designs to "regular" people who don't have cable. Wrong market choice, IMO.
I found Jay's bag thru BPR, and needing another bookbag for winter, the price was right, not to mention a funky design, no matter one's age. Whether four or 94, its simple aesthetic is one just about anyone can relate with, whether one likes it or not.
I'm really trying to stay out of it, but i just can't wrap my mind around anyone who can say that Jay's
1. Created a line of clothing,
2. Showed at Bryant Park,
3. Made a documentary about the whole process
and still ask the question, "What the fuck has Jay been doing all this time?"
It just boggles the mind.
