Robert & Wendy

We wanted to break these up as the "Best of the Rest" and the "Rest of the Rest," but really, there wasn't enough of a difference so we're doing it kind of arbitrarily.

Lorenzo nailed it. He said she looked like the bride on top of the cake and he's right. This is completely unimaginative.

Maybe we're just too focused on the upcoming Dreamgirls premiere, but doesn't she? Look like a Supreme? Just a little bit?

There's nothing wrong with being a sexy bride, but the removable skirt was a little too stagewear, too "Like a Virgin." Bleh. Gimmicky.

We actually didn't hate this dress. We didn't exactly love it, but it was competently made and she at least tried to do something a little different and interesting. The red was a nice touch but the overall design is so bland that it doesn't even register as a wedding dress. It looks more like a coming out dress.

That's....way off. It just doesn't go with the front of the dress. And again, it looks decidedly un-bridal.

But hey, it's a hell of a sight better than her makeup this week.

For Christ's sake, she looks like Witchie Poo.

God, what is WRONG with her, seriously? Costumey eye makeup could be gotten away with if it looks like it was applied by a special effects supervisor, but really, THAT???

bad drag queen comes to mind when i saw that pic of her

Oh dear god, that makeup is horrible.
Wendy shouldn't try too hard. Learn how to carry yourself, it is much more attractive than thick, overdone makeup.

Be nice to Witchie Poo!
Seriously,
I think there was a lot of acid on the craft service table at the Sid & Marty Croft Studios.

Wendy Pepper. What a piece of work. I'm sure in her diabolical mind the makeup was on purpose but who is she trying to intimidate? The models? No one else would even be remotely cowed.

Witchy Poo is going to put spell on you for that!

i hate saying this but i loved wendy's
robert's was ok for me

I actually liked Wendy's....its one of the dresses I still remember 2 years later...

Anonymous said...

I thought Robert's was way too simple, nothing but a big puffy skirt.

Anonymous said...

I liked Wendy's too. I could see myself wearing it. It looked well executed, I thought.

Anonymous said...

What rhymes with "oranges?"

Wendy's dress is what I thought of when I saw Kaynebow's couture dress. Funny how his, even tho it was over the top, was much better executed.

Robert is kinda useless as a designer, but as a contestant, he's a sex-crazed wonderkind. Producers, S1 wackos (even Wendy) far surpassed those of S3. Take a lesson!

WITCHIEPOO! It's true!

Wendy's makeup? Eww, my 5-year-old daughter does a better job on her dolls. Having said that, I really liked her dress.

I can see it now: the minister pronounces them husband and wife, they kiss, the bride rips off her skirt, and they run back up the isle to a Donna Summer remix! The dress makes sense now, right?

Robert just seems to charm his way into everything. I don't get his designs at all.

La Pepper as Lollie Pepper has at least toned down her makeup and gotten rid of the witch's stripe in her hair. I agreed with Tim's take on her dress: what was up with all the assymmetry? It made no sense to him or to me. The touch of red was nice tho.

hey guys, these comments are really childish and mean-spirited

I so agree w/ Robert's being a "Supreme" dress. My sis and I saw this epi when it first aired. When she struck the pose at the end of the runway, my sis and I both started simultaneously singing "Stop in the name of love, think it o-o-ver..." yeah, complete w/ hand motions (something we've done since childhood when anything reminds us of the Supreme ones).

Though Wendy's dress is not my style, and not well executed, it does remind me of every Dec. or Feb. wedding gown in my area. My older sis was looking for one similar at that time for her own May wedding.

hahaha...yeah, totally makes sense now! scary how quickly i saw the whole thing, disco ball at the reception, drunken bridal party dancing to "we are family", and the flower girl w/ glittery eye shadow. awesome fun!

I'm not crazy about the back of Wendy's dress but I do like the design and the red detail. It reminds me of a nice summer dress I used to have a few year ago.

A little love for Robert: It's not badly made, the bodice fits Martinique beautifully, and uh, doods, he's not about imagination. He's about "women's bodies like fine automobiles." Honeychiles it's a Hummer -- a little big, a little clunky, but attractive in its own way. Someone would pay big $$ for it.

Anonymous said...

I don't like any of Robert's pieces, and he seems to think he can slide by based on his "charm." Oh well, maybe he can.

Wendy at the time, as many of you may know, owned a boutique in Virginia specialized in wedding fashion. Imagine how embarrassing that would've been if she had been auf'd.

Anonymous said...

Robert's wedding dress was the epitome of blah. Wendy's wasn't my favorite, but I didn't think it was bad either.

Anonymous said...

OMG, Wendy's dress is a tamed-down version of Kayne's couture gown. I don't like it. There's something about the color red and wedding gowns that, to me, do not go well together.

Anonymous said...

Robert's dress was boring and flat. A bride figure on top of the cake is more personalized than that.

Anonymous said...

I'm really sorry, but Robert's dress has to be one the most unflattering, cheap and tacky looking wedding dresses I have ever seen.

Anonymous said...

Marcelof: Traditionally, Chinese wedding dresses were always red -- it's a good-luck color. So red & weddings go together very nicely in my head. That having been said, although I liked the red touches on Wendy's dress, the dress as a whole didn't wow me. It was better than some of Wendy's other designs, but that ain't saying much. The asymmetry bothered me, and I just didn't like the skewed lace-up back at all.

Anonymous said...

Too much of lace can make a garment look tacky, I don't care how much the lace cost.

Vic said...

hey guys, these comments are really childish and mean-spirited

Yeah. Isn't it fun?

Anonymous said...

I hate reversible or detachable pieces. You look like a freaking Barbie and her 25 outfits.

Anonymous said...

Wendy's dress was beautiful. I really liked it. Joy looked like a princess.

Anonymous said...

My least favorite dresses, actually.

Miranda said...

OMG ... Witchie Poo. Yeah. No doubt.

Why would a grown woman ever think that was a good way to deploy her eye makeup? Especially for day time. I mean, EVER, but especially during the day ...

Bitch crazy. That's all there is to it.

Well, DUH!

Ya big doodie-head. :-)

I liked the front of Wendy's gown a little, and only a little. the back was horrible. the skew actually changed angle where her waist ended and it just looked off.

Robert's gown was boring before she ripped off the skirt, and cheap-looking after she ripped it off.

He said he made his wife's dress. Wow. You buy a mail-order groom and get a dressmaker at the same time. What a deal!

Anonymous said...

I notice lots of my friends opting for less traditional gowns-- usually with a little red (color of good luck in some cultures), but still with the over-all "I want to look like an ambiguous virgin" effect. Wendy's dress seems to fit the bill. While I think that the back screams "designer trying too hard to look like a designer", it is much more believable than *cough* some of the others (who shall remain nameless).
However, considering Wendy knows Bitchy Bridal, it is to be expected. And it shows.

I disagree that Robert's dress fit the model well - half her breasts are hanging out the side! WTF?!

And a BIG ol' WTF to WP's eye makeup - she looks like the wicked queen in Snow White. You just *know* she was watching this at home and going, "No way. No way. I don't look like that. No way."

My problem with Robert's dress (well, the thing that bugs me the most) is that the bodice doesn't seem to fit her boobs quite correctly. Not being a master seamstress I'm not sure what could have been done ot correct it, but oh well.
And I will shamefully admit that I did like the skirt of Wendy's dress, I thought it had really nice movement.
But I'm not getting the appeal of the assymetrically laced corset (on this or Kayne's dress)
And dear god, what is with the makeup. We see designers using the services of the makeup products and artists all the time, it seems indicative of how people feel about her that no one would stop her and try to convince her not to wear that makeup.
Please, oh please, if anyone ever sees me with makeup that horrific, show enough love to grab me and tell me to get myself to the makeup remover!

BINGO!!! That's teh only explanation. She looks HORRIBLE!

Anonymous said...

You know, the more I look at this woman and her makeup and the more you know about her, the more I wonder if she was REALLY that clueless about her look or if it was an act. I mean, sympathy for the tragic is a ploy, but it's not going to win you a grand prize.

uh, she is Witchie Poo!!

hey! didn't the back of that dress look like Kanebow's ultra fabulous golden couture confection?

Wendy Pepper is a HACK. Not even Edina Monsoon would be caught dead wearing her poor excuses for garments.

Funny how she disses her Project Runway experience...she should be extremely grateful that the got any sort of publicity (even though she did not deserve it). two years later, and where is she now? Designing lollipop dresses in West Virginia. What a success story.

Anonymous said...

i was going to say that the back of Wendy's dress was just like Kayne's couture gown but simpler and not that well executed, but a lot of people noticed it already.
i wanted to add regarding Wendy's look, you guys have to include a recent picture of Wendy, it is amazing the transformation she has gone through since her days at PR, she definitely looks like a different woman. anyway, i'm sure she still a super bitch, but slimmer ;-)

What is really scary, is that my wedding dress was similar to Wendy's creation for this episode. It was the one from davids bridal with the red accents. eeek. I am truely frightened now, and I want to go hide under the bed.

She's a piece of work that woman.. lordy, lordy! One can only imagine her poor mother must have been mortified the entire season..

And John, that's Virginia- hunt country, not West Virginia. Like where the DuPont's and Mellon's and such have their horse farms located.. not exactly the back woods.

And I hate to disagree with you darling boys, because I do so adore you- but coming out dress? Uh, nope. No self respecting Deb would be caught dead in that thing.

You guys really ought to do a "Where are they now?" on the models. Just a quick update, like Morgan's been Institutionalized, INS deported Olga for being such a bitch.. Could be fun!

Witchie Poo?

I was thinking Simon Bar Sinister.

I'm struck by how the irregularities show up so much more in these stills than when you actually watch the show. This looked quite acceptable to me in motion, looks far crappier here. I'll never be mad at the judges again for making a decision I don't agree with -- clearly they see all this detail from where they sit.

Anonymous said...

And what's with Wendy's Cruella DeVille eyeshadow????

Anonymous said...

I hate to be cruel, but that last picture of Wendy...God, she looks awful! That's freaky kabuki makeup.

Tausha said...

I was thinking she looks like a bad imitation of Boy George!

It's totally Mimi from the Drew Carey Show. I could never figure out what she was doing with that makeup, if it was supposed to be edgy or what.

Anonymous said...

Witchie Poo!

Only those of us older than dirt remember that.

Poor Witchiepoo and Freddy and the gang that show has not withstood the test of time tho I had a tee shirt from Brian Peltoma, Chicago on Belmont (he was so darling!)in like 1989.

So when is the dreamgirls post coming on project gay, hmmmm?

I am so ridiculously hyped for that movie.

Anonymous said...

My gosh, Kayne totally copied the back of Wendy's dress for the couture challenge!

Do you think she is doing LSD?? it might explain a lot especially the eye make-up
