And Tropical Storm Morgan keeps rolling along, destroying everything in her wake.

Poor Jay. It's to his credit that he didn't have a complete design meltdown. Despite having quite possibly the worst client ever, he still maintained both his composure
(relatively speaking) and his aesthetic. In hindsight, this was interesting to watch because you can see it as a major step in Jay's development as a designer during the competition. He picked Morgan because she was "fun," but such considerations just aren't fitting in with his evolving and more competitive point of view anymore.

Besides, was she ever really "fun?" There's no denying that her brand of crazy makes for great television, but we can't imagine her being all that entertaining on a face-to face basis.

The infantile clapping. It makes us want to stab forks in our eyes.

"This is gonna be the greatest co... wait, what is it? [full minute of uncomfortable processing time] Challenge! This is gonna be the greatest challenge ever!" *claps like a retarded clown*

Oooookay.

"...because they LAUGH AT ME. WHO'S LAUGHING NOW BITCHES?"

Lorenzo really loves it; Tom not as much. It's striking and the bottom is kind of interesting. It has an elegant simplicity to it and it still looks "Jay."

Still, there was just something really off-putting about this dress. Maybe we're projecting too much of Morgan's personality on to it, but it has a restrictive, twisted, straightjacket quality to it that's...agitating.

LMAO! Morgan. Such a tragic retarded clown! Is she still in the model trade?
On the subject of models, Melissa is on the cover of San Francisco Magazine. I'm telling you, she's the next Heidi. That kid's going to rule the world!

LOL!! I thought Morgan was just hilarious this week, and the combo of her and Jay was just priceless!

You know if they would have told the designers from the beginning that the models would be the clients Morgan would have gone home.

The dress. . . I don't know, in the end it looks like a big ol' tee-shirt. . . a cool tee-shirt with interesting touches, but not quite a wedding gown.

I liked the dress. Very Calvin Klein, simple, and elegant.

Morganza is such a simple soul. I imagine her watching Bratz videos and slurping down Cocoa Puffs while clapping delightedly at the animated antics of cartoon whores.

I think what bothered me about the dress is that the fabric seems really heavy as well as restrictive. I bet this dress weighed as much as a beaded gown!

I thought that dress was very restrictive. She couldn't even walk, and the last thing you want is to trip on your dress as you walk down the aisle.

I LOVED Jay trying to talk to her on the product placement Sprint phone... "Morgan. Morgan! MORGAN!!!"
Hee!
I can't really judge the dress because it is so far removed from my usual style, but I do think Jay found a nice balance between Mt. St. Morgan and his own style.

Pretty... Weird! oh, wait that's just Morgan.

This epi exemplifies everything I love about Jay. He picked Morgan because of her walking ability, then had to deal with her psychosis. Did he have a meltdown and start blaming people? Did he resort to sabotage? Did he make any enemies? No, he just got on with it, and came out with something that satisfied the crazy person and yet was still recognizable as Jay.

Plus, he's funny. LOVE HIM!

I only realized how much I loved this dress after seeing the finale and realizing that if you plopped a pair of white headphones on her, Morgan would not have looked at all out of place in Jay's Fashion Week show.

loved this dress so much
Morgan, not so much (altho' the Jay and Morgan show was v. entertaining)

This was the first episode I watched during the first season. Though now I've seen each episode a couple of times.

I really didn't like any of the dresses. Especially Austin's. And I really don't see wedding gown in Jay's dress either.

However, after following along with the critiques here, I'm starting to think that this episode - since it was the first I watched - has sort of clouded my opinion of several of the designer's work, most specifically Jay.

But I haven't changed my mind about this dress.

I love this dress. Crazy Morgan's idea combined with Jay's creativity.

I love this dress. It looks like the most comfortable wedding dress in the world. Like a sheet you just wanna roll around in.

Jay's antics crack me up. He's friggin hilarious. Whenever he's on-screen, me *claps like a retarded clown*

It's so much fun to watch Jay. He's hilarious. Morgan is just crazy. I would never pick her as my model. I'd be worried about being eliminated and would never be able to concentrate on the dress.

What I love about this dress is that it looks like she just got out of bed, wrapped the bed sheets around her, and headed to church for the wedding. LOL.

Morgan is such a nightmare she is compelling viewing. I didn't like the dress at all, and I also hate wraps.

I suppose that if you look at this dress as being a metaphor for married life with Morgan, ie. hobbling yourself with a lunatic for life, or until the divorce lawyers got busy, then I guess it works. I do think that Jay successfully placated the client and still designed a 'Jay'dress (the above comment about adding earphones and it still could have fit on the runway is true). How ever both a runway dress and a wedding dress share the same architectual restrictions. They are designed for walking down a long narrow path with limited sightlines from the side. That means that in reality the most successful wedding and runway dresses tend to keep the emphasis on the top and back, the views that are seen the most by the most people. From that standpoint, this really was just a long, narrow t-shirt dress.

ROFL. My favorite line is when Morgan says "Jay is going to be my bitch."

"if they would have told the designers from the beginning that the models would be the clients Morgan would have gone home."

YUP!

I can't believe that Morgan will get picked by anyone in the next round. I know that if she had gone ballistic and murdered everyone in the studio, it would have been in the news, but I am still braced for some ultradrama.

Morgan... In a straightjacket... Why, those two things just don't even go togeth... Wait... Oh, right...

Do I get my refund on PR1&2 now that I dont have the time to watch them
what episode are you doing now. the wedding dresses or client relationships and role reversals. models in charge instead of designers.
yeah, i like the radical idea and having females in charge,
maybe H will win one for USA.
Go Clintons
maybe the MRs will be president then the brainy kid.
now that will be the first in the world. lol
such radical ideas
and I do foresee the FUTURE.
and god grants me my WISH

Two changes would have made a great difference. #1) Make it strapless. The sleeves really bother me. #2)GET THAT GIRL A GOOD BRA!

I love Jay's outfit so much more than his wedding gown for Morgan.

You hit the nail on the head: straight jacket.

Then again, this was my second choice after Kara's.

I wanted to put my hands around Morgan's throat and choke her to death in this episode. I really and truly HOPE she was as high as a kite because no one should act that way, ever, otherwise.

Loved the dress....in my next wedding (NOT) I will wear this on the beach in Tahiti with flip flops. Oh yeah....I will also be 6 feet tall and 110 lbs.

INdeed. Who in their right mind would willingly choose Morgan next time.

I always remembered this dress as a favorite, but on second look 2 seasons later, I have a more nuanced opinion. 1) I don't like it as much as is, 2) I still think it shows a spark of fascinating originality that if Jay had time to tweak and a different model could lead to an amazing outcome, and 3) I think Jay has greatness within more now than I even did then and I loved him then.

"straight jacket"

Yes, seriously. LOL. I don;t understand why they keep choosing Morganza. The girl is CRAZY!

Anonymous said...

This is very plain but elegant.I also like the fact that Jay used two different fabrics.

"who would pick Morgan?" Oh, I can't wait for the next epi! It only gets better and better.

Oh, I love this dress. It's very romantic. I'm from Venezuela but I live in Toronto. Great site about Project Runway. We just finished watching Season 3 here in Canada.

I think my problem w/ this dress is that it looks like she just rolled out of bed, wrapped the sheets around her, and ran to the church (poss. upon waking up next to the best man after a drunken binge, or am I just projecting? oops!). To me a bride should at least look...unhurried?

I liked the dress. It was simple, and I really prefer "uncluttered," low-frills wedding gowns. It is a bit restrictive; the walking was a problem. If that could have been fixed (in some magical designer way -- I wouldn't know, I can't even sew buttons correctly) then I would have loved it. And Jay & Morganza -- funniest model-designer team ever. Jay was fantastic in this episode. Rewatching S1 is reminding me all over again why he is still my favorite PR contestant ever.

Anonymous said...

Oh, and Morgan's shoes? Laughing at her? Perfect. I know she was thinking that, too. "WHO'S LAUGHING NOW, BITCHES!" Too. funny.

It was pretty funny to see Jay trying to talk to Morgan on the phone. Picking Morgan as your model = Recipe for disaster!

That's a very interesting point. I think I changed my mind about the dress : - )

True. Jay becomes more serious and competitive, which is reflected in the quality of his work.

Gorgeous dress, and Jay is such a character.

The train is very pretty, but the bodice reminds me too much of a leotard and the neckline looks unfinished. Overall though, I think it is a pretty decent gown considering the time frame.

Considering the wackadoo model/client, this dress is a model of compromise. Not all that great-looking, but certainly pleased the client while still definitely being a "Jay" dress. More of an afternoon in the wildflower fields dress than a wedding dress, though.

Noo! This is the wedding dress for women who hate wedding dresses. Like me. And every single one of my girlfriends and every single one of their girlfriends. (We're from California. We don't really understand what "traditional" means.)

"Oh man, I'm getting married. I hate brides. Mom insists on white. Faaahck. Where can I find a dress that not retro and doesn't involve petticoats, flocked flowers, and won't make me feel like a Disney princess?"

This is the dress for girls who feel the same as model Julia but aren't starving their brain cells away.
