Malan has a video blog! Hurray!

"I think that is something we can all aspire to -- to be
an individual of style."

Oh Darling, we could NOT agree more. If you haven't checked out the fabulous Malan Breton's video blog on OUTzone, you really must do so. It's this intense nugget of fabulosity and charm packed into 4-minute bites.

SEE! Malan discussing his collection!
HEAR! Malan answer YOUR questions!
MELT! Every time he giggles or smiles shyly at the camera!

If you didn't love him before now (and shame on you if you didn't), you'll definitely love him after viewing his vlog. International glamour coupled with a shy charm is a winning - and unique - combination. Bravo, this man needs his own show!

That picture is fabulous. I had the privilege of meeting Malan on a couple of occasions and he was a truly charming and humorous gentleman. I agree, he should have his own show.

The thing I can't figure out with Malan is -- how real is he?

and does it matter?

For someone booted off in episode 2, Malan Breton has certainly made the most of his four-and-a-half minutes of fame. Ya just gotta love the guy -- and his clothes! I hope he's making lots of money and is not, as Chef Dave Martin calls himself, a "welfare celebrity."

DolceLorenzo said...

I love the way he laughs and he’s just great to watch. I can't wait to see him (and all the others) at the reunion episode tonight.

I wrote Malan after episode 2 because his parting words had me in tears and I was elated when he took the time to write me back. I have been a fan of his ever since and have loved everything he's done. He is so talented, In the world of fashion and it seems everywhere else!!!! I hope that some day, I have the chance to come to NY to meet him. It would be a dream come true for me.

His clothes are stunning! I wish we'd been able to see more of him on PR. He seems like a genuinely nice person and I truly hopes he makes it in the industry.

As an aside, the man has the most dreamy eyes!

I wrote Malan to let him know I was bidding on his donation to the Equity Fights Aids benefit....I didn't win, but at least I helped drive up the price. I was so impressed that he took the time to write back. A true gentleman.......he and Michael are probably the only 2 everyone will be speaking to on the reunion show!......oh and Stacy too- she didn't stay long enough to piss anyone off.

Huzzah! We love Malan.

I love the picture. But what in god's name is that thing in the lower right hand corner?! It looks like a taxidermy stuffed cat.

Anonymous said...

Consider me melted by Malan's charm and thoughtfulness and (Gigi's so right...) his dreamy eyes. Hoping to see more vblogs ... and more of his work.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, his "charm" is totally lost on my. His grimace smile, his faux accent, his Dr. Evil giggle, and his weird shifty eyes all register a very high creepiness quotiant with me.

And week after week in the opening credits, when he says "I'm simply better than everyone else", I cringe some more.

I know he has you two guys held in sycoFANtic sway (really? just for inviting you to the Broadway Cares auction?), but he severely creeps me out.

Maybe I'd feel different if I met him in person.

I can see where you might find Malan a little creepy. But NOTHING compares to the creepiness that is Keith. He molests beauty queens, right there on camera! Not to mention, have you seen clips of him for the reunion show tonight. The way he stares up at Heidi and Tim, it's like watching at a serial killer plotting his next move or something. Yick!

This is so tiresome. We will never understand the appeal of posting anonymously on a blog you don't like just to sling insults. If we're such sellouts and sycophants, there's the door. You didn't have to pay a dime to read this and you won't have to pay an exit fee for leaving.

If Malan is not to your taste, either as a designer or as a personality, that's entirely your prerogative and we've always encouraged and allowed people to post their thoughts here, whether we agree with them or not.

However, this constant need to tear down the opinions of others simply because they don't jibe with one's own is a clear mark of immaturity.

We adore Malan because he is a true original, has an abundance of personal style, and in person, he is disarmingly sweet, attentive, and shy.

Good for you, PRGayboys! Anonymous blog bashing is beyond tiresome. May they all just go away.

LOVE Malan Breton from Taiwan.
LOVE the PR boys.
HATE anonymous blog bashing. SO last season.

Chgo_John said...

Well said, Boys ... just like everything else you post here. Truly, this is my favorite blog for reasons far too numerous to mention here.

Chgo_John said...

Thanks, Hatshepsut, for the link. That boy has talent! Makes me wish that PR would give the contestants more time for each competition. Yes, there'd be less drama but we'd all get a far better picture of each designer's capabilities.

(BTW, been to you temple, beautiful as it is, it needs a li'l work, Hon. Have you considered doing Trading Spaces with the Parthenon folks?)

PRGayBoys, I hope you don't mind if I gush for a second. I have been a huge fan of this blog ever since I discovered it many weeks ago. You guys have made me LOL so many times that I've lost count. When I watch the reruns, I hear your comments, which makes the shows that much more enjoyable. I love the snark (even when it's directed at my fave--Jeffrey) and I love the Laura-worship (even if I'm not quite as big a fan).

So, all that said, this is probably my favorite of all the posts I've read on this blog. I loved Malan and was heartbroken when he was auf'd. It would have been so interesting to see how he tackled the later challenges. And your description of meeting him brought a smile to my face, because I sensed he was a good guy.

This video blog was just so touching. What a charming guy. I'm happy that he's doing well, and I really want to thank you for sharing his video blog with us.

Anonymous said...

Hey, don't hate all the anonymous bloggers :) Most of us don't put insults in our blogs...and a lot of us are just too lazy to set up an account :P

I love these boys, this site, the show. It makes my day!

Okay, I'm a big ass sap, because watching that sweet boy's video, I got tears in my eyes. I initially thought he was an arrogant twit, but in finding out more about him, I've come to believe he is a gentle soul with all of the attributes you've mentioned. And he is charming, sweet, shy, talented. What better? Oh, well, all of that with an accent. How darling!!

Malan, if you're reading this, I THINK YOU'RE FABULOUS!!!! MissLynette

Malan is as faux and as genuine as anyone else. We all play some role in creating personalities for ourselves. And we all play roles. Think of the different personality that emerges around a sibling or parent or certain old friend.

Malan, like his clothes, is "well-crafted." He has perhaps been more self-conscious about his self-fashioning. So he's chosen the finest materials!

But certain people can just hit you the wrong way. Vincent makes my skin crawl. I can see how Malan would strike someone as pretentious. I sense a sweetness and warmth there. Instead of condescending he comes across as very accepting. And for all his elegance he has a silly giggle that is very unaffected. I think that is why people like it so much. The combination is quite fascinating.

(As an aside: Anderson Cooper has a silly giggle as well. I think it's adorable. It shows the goofball under the serious reporter. Hey prgayboys: maybe you can blog 360 next??!! (a joke: insert emoticon.)

For the record, I am not talking about the person, Malan, whom I don't know. I'm just talking about my impressions of a personality that I see in the media. However, somehow I doubt that Malan is actually a dullard who dons his fabulousness before going out.

(But if he did, wouldn't that be hilarious?! I might even like him even more!!!

Anonymous said...

I can't see the Malan appeal. I feel like the boy who cried "But, he's naked!" as the emperor strolled by in his new finery. Then I have to picture Malan naked, which is even more confusing.

Anonymous said...

PRGayBoys, even though I love your blog and thoroughly enjoy what you say about one of my favorite shows, I have to admit that I never understood Malan fever. Every single one of my bullshit detector alarms goes off whenever he's around.

I keep trying to give Malan a chance, mainly because you guys like him so much, but have decided to save my teeth from the incessant grinding that starts as soon as I hear his phony accent, and avoid him in the future.

I took a near-instant dislike to Keith as well. However, I'd move Kayne right into my house, and enjoy dishing with Robert as well. Uli reminds me of my big sister, which is a good thing, so she can move in too.

And Laura's personality reminds me of -- well, me. (Definitely not my figure, which tends to the athletic.) Even my kids said so, even though I only have 1/3 as many children.

Anonymous said...

First of all, LOVE the photo you used for Malan's post, and the one in your header of the dish with the Adjust-A-Tilt TV! You didn't pick just any old vintage pix, you found ones that really worked with your concepts. I'm all over that stuff, with my doll collection and 40's-60's die cast cars. It never stops inspiring my art work!

Second, I LOVE Malan, especially his laugh! I hated seeing him Auf'd but when it happened he was a real gentleman. He didn't try to weasle out of his fate and took responsibility for his bungled gown. A total class act. I remember his tweed suit from the first challenge, it held lots of promise. So glad to hear he's moving on and doing things for himself.

Lastly anonymous' post said more about them than any points they were trying to make about you or Malan.

Brian

Thanks for the heads-up on his video blog! He is so well-spoken and seems incredibly earnest. Adorable.

I, too, was rubbed the wrong way by Malan at first--mostly because of an ex-boyfriend who was like some bizzaro Malan. Mr. Ex dressed like a millionaire, cared WAY too much about his hair and skin, and was appalled if I wasn't dressed in my best at all times.

He also had two persian cats, a Pier One credit card, and lots of Pet Shop Boys CD's. I know, I know...my gay friends were all but shaking the hell out of me, asking me why I didn't find a straight boyfriend.)

Anyway, Malan seems to be the genuine article. He's just put together differently than a lot of folks--he's suave and sweet and chic, and the boy knows his way around a sewing machine. That's more than good enough for me.

Malan is so incredibly interesting and charming. I was disappointed, as many were, that he did not go further in the competition. I know I would love to purchase his garments, after seeing this latest blog video, and I look forward to the release of his work to the public.

I must say, that while Malan's designs are original, he reminds me of the creepy hair guy from Charlie's Angels. But it so sweet of him that he gets back to his fans that write to him.

Although I trust the opinion of the PR Bois who've met Malan, I don't understand him. I found his TV persona creepy and fake. Maybe in person he isn't but I don't get the muddled British Empire accent. Where does that come from? He says his hometown is Long Island City, NY, he was born in Taipei, Taiwan and he has traveled the world. His astrological sign is Gemini (The Twins) and he alluded to having a difficult mother when it came to expressing his design talents. All of this leads me to believe he has created this persona, like an actor who creates a character. It almost makes me think if you surprised him on a weeknight you would find him sitting in his apartment in nothing but boxer shorts, eating a grilled cheese sandwich and answering the intercom with a Fran Drescher Brooklyn accent.

I don't have the right to judge if this is good or bad, I just know to me it seems phony on TV and it makes wary of him.

madelineanne said...

Ok, just so we're all clear on this, much of the world speaks more British English than AMerican English. That's because at one point the British Empire was the gorilla that ate the atlas (the map, not the apartments in New York). So lots of places are lucky enough to speak with the meleflous tones of the Queen's (the chick in the UK with the crown, not a fabulous man) English.
I will concede that someone who was raised in an British environment could easily lose their acccent after relocating to the US, but really, who would want to? I'd much rather speak plummy BBC speak than the nasal midwestern tones that are my legacy.
Also, maybe he doesn't translate well on screen, and maybe there is an aspect of persona to ir, but in person Malan is quite lovely, charming and a true gentleman.
I think there is nothing sycophantic in being impressed by someone who is appealing and warm when you meet them.

Well, In some ways he has proven himself better since he did show at Fashion Week.

He definitely seems to have cultivated his personality, but does that mean he's "fake"? Many well-known designers have cultivated a mystique about them to further their career.

Austin Scarlett was certainly a mix of style AND substance.

I'm glad Malan's doing well and really taking advantage of his moment to make it into something more lasting. Something tells me we won't be seeing him at a "Celebrity" poker tournament (paging Wendy Pepper!) or The Surreal Life.

Ok I finally found Malan's blog and I will tell you I was sitting here with this huge growing smile on my face throughout the entire viewing. There is something very very unique and special about Malan and it radiates even through a computer screen.

I hope to run in to him somehow when I visit NYC this winter and see him in person. I just feel like he's some kind of very unusual and inspired human. I feel inspired through him. I hope you are reading this Malan!

I would love love love for him to have his own TV show somehow. Like that old Christopher Walken character in SNL "The Continental" but for real! LOL

All blessings to you Malan.

Malan, if you read this, sweetie, lots of us are behind you and would be more than happy to see you succeed.

Maybe it's our loss that he was on the show so short a time but big mad props to him for parlaying that much into something.

He said on the reunion show that he's received 2 million emails! You go homey!

Haven't met the guy, so this is just talk but if I'm bound to formulate my impression of Malan with word beginning with 'c', 'creepy' wouldn't be the one. I'd have to go with 'cultured'.

Malan needs his own kingdom! What a glamorous, suave and benevolent kingdom it would be. Don't you think?

What a total sweetheart. His mom's an idiot and a fool for missing the opportunity to love and nurture this sweet soul.

(Sing on miss nell!)

I find MBFT (Milan Breton From Taiwan)eccentrically dreamy and definitely deserves his own talk/style/design show. But when he laughs-- Barney Fife and Peter Lorre's demonic love child. DAYUM.

We love, love, love Malan! He's so talented and such a sensitive soul -- and so open with his emotions. He's definitely for real! We're so glad he's doing so well, tho we wish he were showing his collection in Project Runway!

One question: Where can we buy his gorgeous clothes??? Love them, love him!!

I LOVED the clip of Malan laughing at the reunion show (especially the high-pitched giggle)...Heidi's imitation of him kinda scared me...her teeth are HUGE! I thought the Cary Grant meets Eddie Munster comparison from Robert was hysterical! LOL Love them both....I am glad that Malan had the show at OFW, just goes to show that there is life after Project Runway. Onward, Beauty!
