Congratulations Princess Puffysleeves!

Girl, that shit was FIERCE!

Oh, we had our doubts about you last night. Specifically, your client relations skills.

"I'm not a miracle worker, lady. I can't make you have an ass."

But clearly, your client was a fruitfly who gets a kick out of mouthy, sassy little ToteGays. Lucky for you, because we have a feeling if you'd uttered that line to a couple of the other ladies in the room... well, let's just say that Jack wouldn't have been the only one leaving due to a medical emergency.

Steven may have had the most difficult task among the designers, but Christian certainly didn't have it easy. His client, sweet and sassy though she may be, was seriously fashion-challenged and laid down a set of rules just as, if not more restrictive than having to rework a wedding dress.

Seriously, she only wears black and jeans? It's to his credit that he didn't just give her a more tailored version of her original outfit.

But how could he? He's Princess Puffysleeves and he's "Kind of a big deal."

Oh sure, you could say that he keeps making the same jacket over and over, but this time it was completely appropriate for the client and he managed to make it look modern and chic. He toned down the puffiness a little and we love the length of the sleeves. Perfect proportions.

Although, looking at the pic there, we're noticing that the pleating on the right doesn't exactly match the pleating on the left.

We're willing to let that slide, though because all in all, it was a great look for her. Granted, the length of those jeans, combined with the flare and the black boots does make her look a little Captain Kirk, but again, so what? We still love it.

The whole look just works and he managed to make his client very happy while still making clothes that look like his own work. Bravo, Princess.

Also, how adorable was this?

"So, how fierce is it?"

THERE'S the Tim we all know and love!

Sister Christian Puffysleeves absolutely slays me.

In a good way.

I noticed the pleating right away. But with the time constraints, it's no surprise.

So I wonder if Princess' ego will be as big as his sleeves in the next challenge?

I would like to amend the previous rule regarding the word "fierce":

No one is allowed to use the word fierce EXCEPT Tim Gunn, because he sounds so darn cute when he says it.

Sewing Siren said...

I agree that Christian deserved the win. The outfit even makes her look about 5 years younger.
But I do think he had a *much* easier client than some of the others. She told him what she wanted so all he had to do was take in the jeans and re-do the jacket (excellent work).
His model was very close to model size too, do you think her recent weight loss was due to pregnancy?

I am so happy you put in that screen cap of Tim and Christian. Tim rocked this episode. I feel all giddy.

Tim Gunn was delightful in this episode. And the Princess is really starting to grow on me. How sad was he when he lost his "tote me around" buddy, tho?!

Yes, is it 3AM fierce? (Oh, how I wish we'd heard him utter that 3AM line BEFORE last Sunday, because you know we'd have been asking about what it all means.) Damn. I'm thinking it has something to do with Red Lobster. But moving on...

As for Princess & her design: I love that top & I'd buy it. (I'd assumed the pleating was meant to be assymetrical.) The pants though....mmmm, not so much. I don't think anyone looks good in those cropped pants - not even models with long skinny legs. But the shirt...love the shirt.

Yay Christian! I've been picking him in the Fantasy game pretty much every episode, so I'm glad it finally came through for me. I agree that he had a tough client, but still did a great job switching things up. I was thrilled, especially since Kevin was getting the winning edit.

Anonymous said...

I was thrilled for princess when she won. I thought Kevin was going to win it at first, but was pleasantly surprised.

It was certainly the best choice. He met ALL the requirements of the challenge and had one of the best looks if not the best on the runway.

The kid has talent. I can see him going far in fashion, but I just don't see him winning PR. Youth always seems to be a detriment at one point (like the SJP challenge).

Mom said...

Can I just say how much I loved seeing women, nay indeed -- human beings, smiling again on that runway? Those women were genuinely selling those outfits to the judges in a way that was second only to the Marilinda Couture victory. So many of them just radiated happiness with what they were wearing, and I think that's part of what made this episode so warm and fuzzy in the end (Jack's departure notwithstanding). It made us feel happy about fashion! Go, Princess! You definitely deserved this win.

Seth said...

I did like his outfit and he did deserve to win, but this is the same top he has been making over and over. Enough with those puffy sleeves! Doesn't she have another pattern in her head at all? Or is all the heat from the hair dryer and styling gel zapped his remaining brain cells?

I think he can be really good, but he needs to get that jacket out of his system and quit making it. But again, it DID work for this outfit.

You can tell he is young and cocky, he is really too full of himself, but hopefully that will change as he gets older.

I don't think Kevin should have been in the top 3 with his hooker ensemble, I think it should have ben Rami, as much as I dislike Rami.

Seth said...

I agree with you Agnes Gooch, the smiles on these women's faces was hearwarming. I don't know how others can feel good about making fun of these ladies after all they have achieved.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, but I'm done with the Princess. Can someone please tell him I'd like my Senior Yearbook from 1983 back and to please stop making the outfit I wore for my senior picture (puffy sleeves, horizontal pleats and all.)

If this child wins and I have to relive my senior year in fashion, I will never forgive Bravo and the fashion industry.

Christian seemed genuinely sad when Jack had to leave.

I do love our little ToteGay. His look did rock the ole runway.

Loved our Tim quoting "fierce" back to Princess Puffy!

You know we aren't feeling the warm fuzzies yet this Season are we? In retrospect I thought Christian should win because his look was complete. He completed 3 pieces of clothing compared to Stephen's barely there dress. And he got the challenge and the client needs. It's gonna be interesting to watch though, because at this point his jacket has gone full circle. He can't keep creating it nor can Jillian keep creating the same look. I am sensing the judges are starting to sharpen their knives now that they've started to see more of their work. And no one better put out leggings again! Once they get rid of Ricky it will be time to strap on the seatbeats.

Unknown said...

bitchybitchybitchy - ITA on Christian really feeling it when Jack left. He got/gave twice as many hugs as anyone else, and his sincerity in that moment is the reason I am totally fine with his outer-diva.

Plus, I would wear that outfit :D

Unknown said...

With the exception of the SJP look, Christian has been in my top three every episode. And yeah, he's got tremendous ego... but we've never seen him attack another designer like Jeffrey or Santino have done in previous seasons. It's all about supporting himself and not about tearing others down (diary room comments last night not-withstanding). I'm all about Princess Christiana von Puffysleeves.

It was so great to have Tim back last night. He seemed to interact more with the contestants and had more screen time. He is such a delight to hear talking. He is so insightful.

I died when he said he had made a lot of bad decisions at 3am. So funny coming from him and then he didn't get the implications of his own comment until the designers started laughing. How cute is that?

I love that Tim's take is back too. Just love and peace for everyone now!

T&L -

I was yapping "Princess Puffysleeves" at the screen like a deranged Bobblehead during the latter half of this episode, but I was also thinking that the PRGayBoys would be ruling that this was the show that finally started to show a regained PR groove.

Tim really did seem much more comfortable and had more interaction with the designers than we'd seen in PR4 to date. Between "how fierce?" and the 3AM dubious decision remarks, there was a lot more TimGunnJoy emanating from the tube. Happy, happy, indeed.

Y'know, and it may well be shrewd editing, I thought it was pretty darn warming that Jack's departure engendered uniform concern and sorrow from the rest of the designers AND Chris's return elicited spontaneous glee, grins and happiness. That might not be OTT drama, but in both cases the reacations seemed genuine.

This, in fact, is about the only PR4 epi to date that I really want to see again.

All the best,

NDC

no offense to the designers, as i know they are all accomplished in their own right. but taking that into consideration…

is it just me, or has this season yet to produce a single memorable outfit? i’ve liked a number of the clothes and would wear some of them myself, but i haven’t gotten excited over any of them.

every time i think back to what designers have made for previous challenges, even the ones who’ve won, i can’t remember what they looked like and have to visit the internet for pics. i can still recall many outfits from previous seasons, either because they were so fabulous (for some reason, mychael’s white and black cocktail dress for nazri always comes to mind, among others) or horrific (wendy’s hoochie coochie carnivale bikini in season 1). not only this, but many of the designers from previous seasons were far less experienced (daniel v. was fresh out of design school, and he made some awesome clothes), worked with shoddier equipment (remember the endless complaints about the sewing machines?), and fewer accessory options.

is it because the challenges are more about creating marketable clothing than high fashion or wearable art (e.g., think of the kind of rockin’ clothes someone like elisa or chris could create using plants or recyclables)? or am i completely out on my own here?

Yes, AES, I know what you are talking about. I thought the same thing about Jeffrey, S3. Can't we just forget 1983 already? It only reminds us that we are old enough to be Christian's goddamn mother.

I'm getting a weensy bit tired of the silhouette of that jacket, though, and wonder if he has much range.

Well, I didn't win the damned purse, but at least I did put Christian in the top 3, and Stephen in the bottom. Sweet.

I've been a fan of the Princess from the get-go, but I fell a little more in love with him when he saw Chris walk back in the work room. His face was sheer joy. Too sweet.

If only I owned a tote to put him in! Maybe Malan would make one and you can do another contest? The tote could have puffy sleeves on each end, and Christian's face on the side. It seems only right that there be sparkles somewhere, too.

Just think about it, boys.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned (at least from what I've read so far) Nina's JBF'd hair last night! It totally looked like she was workin on baby #2 right before filming :)

I LOVED hearing Tim ask about the outfit's fierceness. Now I wish Emmett could reprogram my talking Tim bobblehead to include that question, and the funny stuff he said about 3AM mistakes.

I thought Christian deserved this win. He had a big challenge, and clearly made an outfit his client loved while actually USING HER CLOTHES. It was also an everyday outfit. I'd buy that jacket in a minute.

pedro.c said...

Well, at least I got to see him make one Rainbow Bright style jacket that actually worked for the challenge.

I'm told jeans are a nightmare to make because of the heavy fabric and double stitching, so double props for him for turning out a great pair of jeans as well.

I though that PR was back to what it's best at with this episode: non-manufactured drama, a poignant moment and a happy one too (Chris' return) as well as a very interesting/satisfying challenge. And more classic Tim - doesn't get better than that. Thanks guys for keeping it coming every day!

It was nice but frankly the shape of the jacket looked a LOT like his first outfit (plaid jacket) and the Sarah Jessica Parker outfit he did. Does he only know one pattern type????

Princess puffy sleeves clung to the crying Jack like there was no tomorrow. What a sweetheart. I think he comes across as more arrogant than he really is because when he talks he holds his chin way up high. We've taught that generation to do that, yanno? He's darling and I'd be proud to be his mama. Go little totegay princess!

Tim gunn. Wow. Awesome as always.

Anonymous said...

Now that Princess Puffysleeves has won with that look, he needs to move on so Nina doesn't call him a one-note. The outfit was cute, and the jeans were worth it for the Captain Kirk comment.

I loved Tim in this episode and I agree that this is one I'd watch again and not be bored. No handbag for me either, but still a good challenge.

Lilithcat said...

"So, how fierce is it?"

When Tim said that, I became completely hysterical and spewed white wine all over the living room. I adore that man.

Christian's outfit was great, but his client needs a Tim Gunn makeover!

Seth said...

I don't really think that the Princess will win even though he is good. I don't think he has enough variation in his style to make an entire collection. I would love to see him make a gown.

Anonymous said...

He's been making the same jacket over and over. It finally was the right thing for the challenge and he deserved the win. Now he needs to move on.

Anonymous said...

I love this look. I would buy it today if I could. And it looks great on his "client." She was the clear winner. Everything else looked atrocious.

Anonymous said...

Zoe, I think that you're right. Three out of the five challenges on the show so far have been designing marketable clothes for an "everyday" client.

On top of that I would also argue that the "Fashion Don't" challenge was far too restrictive and complicated to create really memorable clothes. I would have much rather seen it as an individual challenge with each designer updating the one look they drew.

That just leaves "Sew Me What You've Got" in the first episode, but none of the designers really stepped up to the plate then. Maybe a case of having too few restrictions (a la Mychael at Bryant Park) early on.

I really did like this challenge though. A much better go at "everyday woman" than the mothers/sisters thing. Hopefully that means we're back on track and next episode will be a wacky materials/art clothes episode.

Seth said...

Ok, I really think they need to make a evening gown now. They haven't done this challenge and that is always the best one.

This episode and her use of the word "ferosh" last week totally pushed me over the edge as far as Princess is concerned. I now adore her 100%! And I was rooting for her for the win! Yay Princess Puffysleeves!

Princess Puffysleeves deserved the win. But I noticed last night how consistent Kevin is. He might not be a breakout designer, but he has been in the top (or his team has been in the top) almost every episode. That's saying something....

Thombeau said...

I've gotten over my issues with Christian. He's just a kid, after all, and one who's doing his own thing. Good for him. And that outfit was excellent, very appropriate.

When will the producers realize what a goldmine they have in Tim Gunn and give him more air time??? Seriously, he won both of the viewer polls he was in, people obviously are crazy about him. I sure as hell am!

Anonymous said...

Not much to add. Sister Christian deserved the win (though Kevin may have if he had done slacks or a skirt instead of leggings).

Loved seeing Tim in form and the natural drama, or at least as natural as reality TV can be.

I know we haven't gotten to see the Chris post yet, but I have been dying to watch Irma la Douce ever since the comments last night. What a great effing flick!

Suzanne said...

All Tim has done this season on TGGTS is preach the gospel according to long pants. Seriously- how is it that all of sudden he is pro cropped pants on anyone that isn't 6 feet tall???

Sorry that just pisses me off....Christian was NOT my winner, Kevin was but whatevah!!

And sorry Puffysleeves you were still in your Rainbow Bright PJs when my gays COINED "fierce" so get your own catchphrase.

(I am sorry- he is WAAAAAAY too full of himself for me- he cannot even piss straight yet- how can he possibly appreciate this experience?)

Unknown said...

overall, i really like the look.

but, it IS sloppy. i would buy the pleats being purposely asymmetrical if the shoulder poufs were remotely the same size. you can see they're not in every picture both shoulders are visible.

Suzanne said...

Oh yeah and I HATED his attitude about the challenge- as if he was too good to design for real women and not models.....

good grief, Princess is a RIOT!

My fave outfit - Christian's. But yes, agree, hope he starts to make some different jackets cuz it's starting to get a bit old.

My fave moment of the show - Tim's "So, how fierce is it?" Matter of fact, totally Tim. LOVE IT. Had me laughing out loud!

Other fave moment: Tim's "I make more bad decisions at 3am in the morning..." LOL OH TIM! God I love that man =)

But wow - Christian's client was a tad restrictive. No skirts, no dresses, no color. Just jeans and black. Damn girl - discover your inner goddess honey and VOGUE once in a while! 2 words dearie - A Line. It's a godsend for curvy chicks. Like me! =)

P.S. Not a fan of the jeans though after a while - kinda made her legs look like sausages if you look again later on. But still - well done Princess =)

I was way more excited that there were real Tim Gunn moments in this show than over Christian's win, but to be fair, that really was a nice outfit. I even said, as it came down the runway, "Oh, hey, I like that." Not my usual response to his stuff.

As to whether or not it deserved the win... um... sure, why not? It wasn't my favorite but it certainly was good. Maybe now that he's won with that jacket style he'll move on to something else.

Why did Princess AND Michael Kors both comment in shock that the jacket was "commercial" too? At 21 years of age, does the princess ALREADY have a reputation for only being able to design crazy out- there clothing that only works on the runway? WTF? Is it his destiny to only create unwearable clothes and we all know this at 21 years old?

Alex! said...

Christian kicked ass.

He had a client with a lot of strict parameters, and he made her happy made a killer outfit that was totally within the guidelines of the challenge (every day wear), and made her look great.

He deserves more than the win- he deserves a standing O. He knocked it out of the park.

As for his attitude... whatevs. He's funny, and he knows he's talented. And as everyone else has pointed out.... he's 21. Everyone is full of themselves at 21.

I think there is a process for learning to love Princess Puffysleeves:

1. Totally hating him.
2. Finding him annoying yet tolerable.
3. Finding him fun, as long as he's not in the same room with you.
4. Wanting him on your trivia team at the local bar so he can smack talk everyone and be fabulous.

High fives to the wee little gelfling gay! He's talented as hell, and cracks us up.

Little golf claps to Princess for this one. It indeed looked fierce on the client, but he's done this look too many times for there to be a standing ovation.

Ok the Pinnacle Peak Princess Puffysleeves has the "preppy" look down from the 80's. Jeffery's was so Pat Benetar. All we're missing is the "stoner" although Elisa could fit that catagory, so who's gonna do the "skater" and "band/choir geek" looks? Any bets?

I swear if I see one upturned collar with the points turned down I'm NEVER watching this show again!

I knew either Christian or Kevin would win. I think if Kevin's model had better foundation garments, he might have taken it.

Christian's outfit was definitely good - it was just a bit Housewives of Orange County for my taste.

And I'm with everyone who is having 80's high school flashbacks because of Christian. I'm starting to think that if he makes the final three, his collection might look something like this.

Kzspot - I watched and LOVED it. When I met SJP two years ago, it was the only thing I talked to her about (I think I scared her).

The theme song was by The Waitresses (I Know What Boys Like, Christmas Wrapping). "One size does not fit all" - that's the line I remembered.

But here are the full lyrics:

Square pegs, square pegs.
Square, square pegs
Always never quite right.
I’d like it if they liked us, but I don’t think they like us.
So tell me where’s the party, and how come we weren’t invited?
One size does not fit all.

Don’t wanna wear my glasses, I have to wear my glasses.
Why are we wearing this year what they were wearing last year?
Yeah, I’d be cuter without gum in my braces.
I hope the whole is greater than the sum of it’s parts.

She said that she was,
but we know she isn’t
And she said that she would
but he hasn’t asked her.

He did - and we know it. But with whom? We can't guess it.
And they think that we’re the.

Square pegs, square pegs.
Square, square pegs

Really funny - who broke the π button on my calculator?
May you be eternally grounded.
Me? Get juiced with The Cool Patrol?
Uh . . . no thanks . . . Why do you think they call it beer?
I mean...listen to him!

(sax solo)

Square pegs, square pegs.
Square, square pegs

Ya know, our school colors should be black and blue.
Yeah. I mean no. Huh? What?
No. I don’t think I have a bad attitude. Why?
Suspended? Suspended for what?
But they told me it was Senior Wig Day!
Honest, I don’t even know how those worms got there.
Now, what would I do with 200 peanut butter cups?
One size does not fit all

just chiming in to agree with andrea and thyrza on the "lady, I can't MAKE you have an ass" line - not only did it seem to be kindly received (I'm *pretty* sure we got a grinning reaction shot from Christian's model) but I thought it a surprisingly deft and sensitive compliment: it communicated clearly that he had noticed her slender new figure, but actually felt more sincere because he didn't switch out of his standard sassy tone to tell her so. I thought it showed more awareness of and attention to others than I had previously suspected Princess to be capable of.

so yeah, he kind of won my heart this episode. aw shit, everyone kind of did. It was even hard to keep hating VictorYa when she helped Steve at the bitter end.
