Wesley - A Short Tribute
Sunday, July 27, 2008 by Author
Ladies, we're only two episodes in and one of the most-discussed topics revolves around Wesley Nault's wardrobe. Before we turn out the light at his work table, let's take one last look at The Look Everyone's Talking About.*
Oh, and P.S.: Those aren't Crocs he's wearing.
Wesley didn't come up with this look out of nowhere and some people think it looks like a dorky fashion faux pas, but the fact is, it's quite the hot look right now for the fashionable young man. Gentlemen, if you've got the legs for it, now's the time to show them off. The whims of fashion are often short-lived, so you may not have this chance for long.
So what do you opinionated bitches think? In or Out?
*Also, it's a chance for us to show hot men, which is not something we get to do often enough around here.
Spring 2008 Collections
First row: Bottega Veneta, Raf Simons, Calvin Klein, Yves Saint Laurent
Second row: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Perry Ellis, Neil Barrett, Thom Browne
Third row: Michael Kors, Lacoste, Etro, Lanvin
Fourth row: Gucci, John Galliano, Emporio Armani, Salvatore Ferragamo
Fifth row: Jean Paul Gautier, Miu Miu, Hermes, DSquared2

he is so cute.
he is so "in".
PS: i would like to chew wesley's shorts.
Wow, crickets around here.
I think the only one who looks natural is the guy in the red and white horizontal striped shirt. The rest look awkward or too LAish.
Shorts are a casual look and all these looks seem mismatched to try and be more formal. Doesn't work
Some of those guys are definitely hot, but there are some who should never were short shorts until they do a lot more leg work - like the guy in the swimmer's cap wearing Thom Browne at the end of the second row.
Definitely not a look for everyone.
*Wipes drool off keyboard*
I love the look and if you have the legs I'd say go for it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to look at those hot men again.
Some are hot, some are not. In the academic world, I've seen male grad students wearing shorts with shirt and tie for years (I mean back to the 90s!), so it's not really new, but maybe just finally fashionable.
But some of these are just as OTT as women's fashions. The guy who looks like he belongs on Gilligan's Island? NOT. Oh, and I hate the cute Catholic schoolgirl look for women--the Eton boy look is just as horrible. But the guy in yellow? Kinda hot.
So again, some in some out. As for Wesle? Definitely IN...
I agree with everyone, it depends on the guy and the look. and it depends on the shorts
Wesley is cute but he doesn't have the best legs. They not terrible but not as good as they should be for those particular shorts. I think he should have worn slightly longer ones for that look. To give a better line. And those shoes throw off the look.
Now if only Keith went for that look :)
Frank
I think it really depends on the event you wear them to, and the top. First off, I'm no fan of the uber-long short that seems to be in style off the runway. I'm not the tallest person, so it's not easy finding shorts that don't look like knee-length skirts on me. But short shorts on a 6" tall male model? It may be THE hottest thing on the runways right now, but not with a suit coat or tie. And it didn't look good on young Wesley, adorable though he may be.
JPG's looks straight out of a Tom of Finland drawing.
As to the others, esp. the shorts with suit jackets, they are a male equivalent to the female baby doll dress. Not a look for everyone.
I love men in shorts and the shorter the better.

I know, right? A girl can dream : )
I love shorts, all kinds. I wear them all the time so he's definitely IN.
Wesley looks very cute, but it is a very slippery slope to Pinocchio-land.
I love the look! I say "IN".
I just like Wesley...
As for the shorts, I don't hate 'em. Not something everyone should wear, but it works on some guys, if they have the stuff to pull it off.
A man with good legs should be able to show them off. Makes it easier to visualize him naked.
Men in short shorts are fantastic, provided that their legs are tan.
It's like any other style: If you've got the right body for it, go ahead. Men look best in shorts when they have legs with nicely defined muscles. Skinny legs, not to much.
But that guy on the bottom row, in the grey suit, looks like he spent his childhood being tormented by nuns.

IN IN IN!
Less is always more :)
That's hot! My boyfriend wears them all the time, well, he does have the legs for it. Wesley is a little too skinny to wear those short shorts but somehow he managed to pull it off.
The first and the last models are HOT! Drooling here...
Very hot trend. Of course, like anything else in fashion and trends, it depends on the guy and his legs.
I don't mind Wesley's shorts. The more skin the better. ;)
horrible
Hmmm, let's see - I'll take one of the Jean Paul Gautier, one of the Hermes, two of the DSquared2 (need a spare for carrying luggage) and one of the Michael Kors....
That Michael Kors' look is SO HOT!
Honey, anything to see men wearing less.
I LOVE WESLEY!! He is incredibly stylish and I love the shorts. If he had lasted longer he definitely would have stolen Daniel Vosovic's Crown away!
Love this, boys! What a fabulous post filled with hot men!! Great way to end my day. Wesley is always in.
I didn't think Wesley had the legs for the look but more important, he didn't have the attitude. I think you have to have a real "I don't give a shit" attitude if you're going to wear tailored shorts with a blazer and tie. He just always looked like he was terrified.
However I could see him in a kilt. And he certainly works a pair of boxer briefs.

Oh, you guys just want an excuse to post pictures of guys with bare legs. Not that there's anything wrong with that . . .
Shorts on guys are fine. But the only place a guy should wear short with a suit jacket and dress shirt is on Bermuda.
I hate being trendy and I hate wearing shorts. It's so preppy. Ugh.
I love the look, and work it often. It helps being 6'2 and you are all right: you have to be able to pull it off. You have to have the right shorts, body and attitude.
I mainly like it because it shows that you have some style who is willing to take a risk, and you don't uphold the A&F polo as the finest in fashion. You definitely stand out in a crowd and you must be able to take that heat.
In short (shorts)... IN
Dan~

See, I love being trendy, I mean, as long as the trend works for me.
I think as long as he doesn't pair his shorts with a twee little pilot's cap (like the Thom Browne chap, bless his heart), he'll be okay. I think it also bears mentioning that this particular look is not for the over 35 set. Please.
I love boys in shorts. It's so sexy.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I don't like shorts on ANYONE in a formal or semi-formal setting. Tacky tacky tacky. I never wear them unless I'm sitting in my boxers watching TV, alone. It's not really a good look for anyone. No, not even Wesley.
I just don't get all the Wesley love either. His dress was a hot mess. His attitude during the challenge was terrible. No way would he have stolen Daniel V's crown. No contest.
What's with the footwear on those models? Distracting and weird!
It's definitely in. The only bathing suits that you can find nowadays are all short... unless you like kohl's...
First of all, a big THANK YOU (not a "holla") for your loving wit. Now to the matter at hand: is the Ferragamo model Yanic (Carmen's no-shirt model in S4/Fashion Giant eppy)?? Inquiring minds want to stalk - I mean, know. Yeah. Know.
Oops, I forgot to weigh in with my opinion (too busy drooling): love the prepsters in shorts. The ones in the banana hammock-y shorts make me think of European beaches. It's like if women suddenly went around with bikini tops as normal upper-body wear: definitely not for those of us who do not have a personal trainer and nutritionist on speed-dial.
Skinny legs are hot.
Hot pictures, Tlo! What's not to love?
No, no, no, no, no! Just as bad as formal shorts for women. Can't go away fast enough. Is this the natural progression from the shrunken suit? Does it mean the pendulum will soon swing the other way and we'll have oversize suits a la Talking Heads circa 1985?
I love the preppy shorts look. Men's fashion can be so boring, so it's always nice when someone does something different.
Not everyone can pull it off, but it's in.
Here's the thing - the look is in, but I dunno how well Wes is carrying it. You shouldn't wear trends that don't work for you, and those are some scrawny-ass chicken legs if I've ever seen them. Add the relatively bulky blazer to the shorts and the look is even more top-heavy.
Also, if you're wearing shorts and a blazer, you're clearly not dressing for the weather - you're dressing for style. Which is fine, but this look is going to tend to look geeky if not done right. Wes, adorkable though he may be, looks a little geeky in this style.
Well, I think the Miu Miu look is precious! I'd parade all around town with a man wearing those shorts on my arm. Definitely a look for the young, though. Like, no one older (or older-looking) than 20. 21, perhaps.
Wesley is fantastic in shorts. He looks professional and he looks like he actually takes fashion seriously.
The Mom
A. The guy in the swim cap looks like a serial killer.
B. I have great calves. In fact, most guys would kill to have my calves . . . they're like reverse bi-ceps or something. So I don't mind wearing shorts and have been wearing shorts with long sleeve dress shorts and ties (and even the occasional blazer or sweater) for years . . . it's the fashion statement of choice for early fall football games for stylish frat boys at prestigious southern colleges and universities. BUT, the big question is do I really have to SHAVE my legs to pull it off? There are some great bodies in those pics, but they're all hairless.
I'm trying to decide which one will give me the worse nightmares- Galiano's or Gaulthier's.
Cute on 20 somethings. But then everything is cute on 20 somethings.
Enjoy it while you can! :-))
In, in, in! As long as you got the legs, go for it! And Wesley looks oh so adorable. Sigh. I'll miss you!
Ugh. I really hate the short shorts unless it's a super tight bathing suit. Maybe because I'm a straight woman...but this look doesn't turn me on at all. I hate when guys look like twinky school boys. It's like some weird male Barbie.
*salivates*
I think Wesley's shorts are just adorable!!!! I was sooo sad to see him go: he was such a classy guy, and he seemed to have potential...
Anyway, he has nice legs so he can pull it off!!
when i saw his outfit..... i immediately thought of Chuck Bass
Ugh, OUT! Even the cute ones look ridiculous.
Ok, here in the desert we are used to men wearing dress shorts for half the year. No hot new trend down here. But looking at some of these, I just have to make some rules.
1- If it looks like a bathing suit, keep it at the pool.
2- If people can read your blood pressure by looking at your crotch, maybe these are 'wear at home' shorts for special evenings.
3- If they are so short that people are nervously holding their breath hoping that your bits don't come cascading out one leg, give them a pass.
4- If it looks like your ex went psycho in your closet with a pair of shears, get new clothes.
5- If the designer asks you to dress like a condom in public, demand more money.
As a tall man, I have to say that it's a whole lotta leg, and that's why I think it's a look better suited for someone of Wesley's stature. It's a great look for him.
And looking over the photos posted, it seems to me that what the shorts are paired with seem much more important than the legs themselves (though of course a nice pair never hurts...).

Wesley can show me his Naults anyday! I'm just disappointed we didn't get the chance to know him before he was auf'ed.
I hate men in shorts. To me they all look like little boys. But, maybe that is what they are going for. Ugh.
I think the problem with the Wesley look is he doesn't really seem to have the attitude for it. He looks too much like a 13 year old on vacation from prep school.
Maybe I'm old but I kept trying to look at the hot men but I kept getting distracted by the headgear. What are some of those men wearing on their heads?
Well, you know the Gautier guy is going to get the crap kicked out of him the moment he steps out on the street. By a gang of gay men with impeccable taste.
Another straight woman weighing in...
Nothing hotter than a strong, fit man in shorts. Just two rules: 1)Scrawny, furry little chicken legs. Sorry, Wesley. Cover those things up.
2)Nina's short, tight and shiny comment also applies to men in shorts.
Shorts are not formal or business wear. Not for women, not for men. But then, drool is not an appropriate accessory at formal or business events....
HOT HOT HOT!!
IN!! While I think short shorts are way too gay (I am gay btw)I really like a mid thigh length on shorts.
And if any straight guys are reading this...whats up with shorts that go below the knee? Sorry but you might as well be wearing pants!
I'm sorry, I don't like this look, it reminds me of AC/DC
he's totally adorable and I like his shorts.
I would also eat Wesley's shorts.
Short shorts are HOT!
The models do nothing for me, but Wesley is too cute.
It looks like they all left the house so hung over from the night before that they forgot to put their pants on.
I think it's a little hit and miss with the fashion show but Westley DID rock the look well. I think I'd have prefered the shorts just a TOUCH longer...certainly not below the knee though.
As for the models...the designers that hit it, HIT IT. SO brilliant and inspiring. The ones that didn't...yeesh.
Weighing in on short shorts -- most of these looks are just too preppy but at least not obscenely short. Those as old as I will remember the OP corduroy surfer shorts in style early 80s. Sitting down in those short, tight, things facing me, my ex-brother-in-law's uh, manhood, crept out the bottom edge. It was pretty inappropriate. Two legs, not three, is all I want to look at in a public place.
