Onward to bitchery, bitches!
From the waist up, pretty. Very pretty, in fact. We don't normally love those "blooming onion" collars but the proportions are right. The sleeves are nice too. Still don't love the color, though. From the waist down...ouch. High-waisted jodhpurs. Just say that out loud, kittens.
Well, the quilting's nice. Aside from that, there isn't a thing about this look we like. The color is the very definition of "drab," the sleeve looks like it would be annoying to wear, the bodice has all kinds of elements to it, none of which seem to work together, and the pants are just plain unflattering.
Credit where it's due, this is a stunningly beautiful design and it's perfectly executed. Despite Heidi's claim that she'd never seen weaving like this before, Rami didn't invent the technique. He's just very good at it. Not many woven bras in the Victoria's Secret line, are there Heidi?
Bitches that we are, we do have one major issue with this look and that's the colors. It's such a beautiful design, why would he render it in drab brown and moss green? A more vibrant color selection would have made this a jaw-dropper.
We're not gonna lie. When this came down the runway, we both assumed that the producers had sprung a surprise 13th look challenge on them again. That's the only thing that could have explained this rushed-looking, poorly fitted, somewhat uninspired design. In case you can't tell, we hated it.
Absolutely stunning. We, like so many others in the tent, gasped when it came down the runway. The gold and the antique lace coupled with the ruffled sleeves and tight bodice give it an almost renaissance feel. And it fits her like a glove. Perfect.
Not perfect, but damn near it. We agree with Nina's astute observation that the circles on the hips probably weren't the best design choice, but that's really the only wrong note in this jaw-dropping gown.
To sum it up, we have to once again tip our hats to Nina for her observation that when he's doing evening wear, he's unparalleled. Not that he cares what we think, but in our opinion, he should focus all his efforts there. It's not just that he makes beautiful gowns; he makes beautiful, intricately detailed, interesting gowns - and that's not an easy trick by any stretch.
It's when he tries to do separates that we think he really fails. He takes the kind of techniques that produce stunning gowns and tries to apply them to blouses, pants, and skirts and the overall effect is heavy and dreary. If he can learn to apply a lighter hand when attempting sportswear he could correct that issue. He says he loves the color palette he chose and if that's the case, run with it, we guess. We found it to be so overwhelmingly drab that it actually hurt some of his more beautiful looks.

Amazing collection!
Rami is a true artist.
Rami's collection is unique, creative and truly his own voice.
You cannot knock someone for that or having already establish a signature look.
This is THE goal of many in the business, as Nina said "to look at a piece and say that's Rami kahou" is very impressive.
I still believe Rami should of won. I know I'm not alone in this, I hear it often in my circles at work.
Rami is creative, talented, smart, professional, driven and attractive - a success story in the making.
I'm a big fan now and cannot wait to see what he does next.
My biggest problem with that gold gown was the model! She looked scared, stiff, pale, boring...she didn't do anything for the dress. And she kind of clunked around in it. Ugh.
Rami's clothes (the non-evening wear) all struck me as really fancy secretary clothes. Suits and high waists and blousy blouses.
Ugh.
I love all of it.
I also happen to adore the colors. The raspberry is beautiful, or as he calls it magenta.
I think it's better to choose colors than not for a season or collection.
The all black is just too safe.
I love Rami. He's such a gentleman.
I agree that Rami designs lovely gowns, but the complaint that I have (and this is not specific to Rami, as all of the designers have done this) is that the strapless corset bodices never ever fit correctly. I suspect the problem is that it is near impossible for a runway model to fill a corset out correctly, but I'm always spectacularly turned off when I see a dress moving in the opposite direction of the boobs it is covering.
The last two gowns are STUNNING! All those celebrities bitches should be calling him NOW! Can you imagine Nicole Kidman wearing that antique lace number? GORGEOUS!!

Spot on analysis boys. For the most part, this collection was just plain boring.
I absolutely LOVE the fact that Rami was confident enough to use color in his collection. Seeing one black garment after another parading down the runway is very boring and seems like such a "safe" choice. Also, you miss so much of the fine details when everything is black.
And the comment about the sleeve being annoying to wear in that one darker green top is kind of nit-picky. These aren't meant to be completely wearable items after all. Case in point, Christian's ruffled neck piece.
Love the green brown woven piece and the gold antique lace piece. But I still can't get over the hip circles on the black evening piece.
Rami's was a complete collection right down to having designed the handbags. (which I also love)
It was a perfect build up to those show stopping gowns which are yes - wearable and red carpet worthy.
The challenge was to design a "collection." Rami did that very successfully.
I actually really love the deep red of that blouse, the golden-toned brown of the second look, and the chocolate brown of the third. Those are colors that I would easily wear.
That gown with the woven bodice was, I thought, the most beautiful piece in any of the finalists' collection. It wasn't just the weaving, although that was stunning. I adored the way a length of fabric from the skirt was brought up into the weaving, and the skirt still flowed like a dream.
I was not so awed by the ruffly gown. I guess I'm not so awed by ruffles in general (perhaps one reason I'm not a fan of PPS). It would have been fabulous without the shoulder-pad ruffles, though.
But what is with the clunky shoes?
I see the circular forms on the black evening dress as a different and innovation way to add some volume on top of the gown, rather than under it.
We see many gowns with mass and volume under it to create a thinner and flattering waste effect. It's about the silhouette.
The silhouette of this gown is extremely flattering and brings the waste line in, like many full red carpet gowns. Rami just created the silhouette in a different and interesting way.

Agree with you all the way. Liked the raspberry blouse (but not the outfit, and wish we could have seen the jacket that, as I recall, elicited applause), loved the last two gowns. The gown Amanda was in - meh, but you're probably right: it's the color that tanked an otherwise nice design.
I see the Rami-was-robbed folks are back, which is fine but, again, it's "should HAVE won," not "should OF won." And when people complain about colors, it's about the colors he chose; it doesn't mean he should have done an all-black collection. In the end, even though I don't care for most of his designs, he has his client-base, and he strikes me as a gentleman, and I wish him well.

I'm in the industry and we discuss things like this all the time.
I too appreciated Rami's black gown as well as the others.
The black gown does have a very flattering silhouette and that's part of the point.
I see that black gown as a romantic dream.

I liked the collection overall and agree with the general comments that he is much better at evening.
I actually liked the colors he chose although I can see that they are not for everyone. You would either need to be bone white or have some olive or brown in your skin to look great, but it shouldn't have to be for everyone.
I also felt that he displayed the broadest range of technique of any of the finalists. Some things were draped, some fitted loose, some tightly, etc. That was one of the things that made it more interesting to me personally. I guess that can be described as "technique" versus "design", but I'm not into that world enough to comment on that distinction.

I think TLO doesn't really like Rami. Just my thought. I'm not sure why. That saddens me, doesn't seem fair, and makes fans of Rami's want to go elsewhere. :(
I loved Rami's collection and would wear many of the pieces.
I agree there were things in his collection I did like a lot-just only half. The lace gown in my opinion is the topper. The black afterwards strikes me as a bit of a let down. It's a nice gown but I am not as enamored with it as others are.
Regardless, it is good that rami has his supporters and there are people who respond to his work. In fairness though, Christian and Jillian (and even the earlier placed contestants like chris) have people who strongly respond to their work the best.
I dont think there's been a designer who's universal loved for their work. We should all try to remember that

If ti seems to you as though they are, it's because the feel on here is attacking Rami's work. Like I said above, there is a slight slant on this blogsite that is discouraging.
Several pieces were nice, but this was indeed a dreary collection. Rami should have been third (though he clearly earned his spot in the top three over Chris).

Besides, quite a few of us have spent a fair bit of time complimenting Rami on his towel draping & lotioning talents. That's gotta count for something.

Tlo like Rami but they don't play faves when it comes to a designer's work. Yes they have been critical of him but they have also praised him when they liked it-case in point the heshey's dress.
They have unleased their distaste of an outfit regardless of the name attached-this includes whether it's Laura, Chris and Elisa.
If they take issue with an aspect of rami's style or work that is THEIR OPINION and they have a right to express it. But they have done likewise with other designers. Just as you have a right to express yours.
This is their blog and I feel they have been pretty fair and articulate in their treatments of the contestants-wicked snarks and jabs aside :).

I think ramis and jillians were the more original collections. although some of jillians did have a ralph lauren feel.
I agree with jillian and think christians was something we've seen before from designers he's worked with in the past.

With regard to that woven gown; that WAS gorgeous, but because of the color, it just didn't sing.
I am sure that the woman who would want that dress (red carpet) would want to standout, not blend in, and that color hurts that (regardless of how great the rest of the dress is). If it was a nice shade aubergine or of blue (even navy, which is still pretty tame), it would have made a huge difference.
I do think Rami's color palatte is a problem. He even used the ugliest 'color': teal (which I always argue that, along with 'mauve', is not technically a color).

If the abovementioned is an attack on Rami's work, I guess I need to improve my English. The problem I have with fans in general is that they can't handle ANY criticism.

Stunning collection and I'm surprised at the attack on the colors, but each tio his own. Funny thing is, I walked into Saks this weeknd and saw a lot of the same colors. Christian was smart in that he simplified the color palette, but you can't blame a guy for going out there and using color. His attention to deatil is outstanding. I do agree with TLo in that I didn't like the styling choices with hair and shoes.

I actually thought that the woven mossy brown dress was not so great. It seemed sort of old and staid and not necessarily something anyone would wear. maybe it's the color but I thought it was boring.

i thought the woven dress was really beautiful--not the color, perhaps, but whatev. but did the weaving technique remind anyone else of a couple of the dresses biddell did on project runway canada? when heidi said she hadn't seen that technique before, i was like, "um...i have."
I think Rami's collection was the most intricate and well crafted of the 3. The last 4 gowns were out of this world in my opinion.. and this is coming from someone who doesn't usually wear gowns expect when in a wedding as a brides maid..
I loved the dresses very much as well as the weaving detail.. The olive gown was stunning.. and lace was out of this word!! If and when I get married I would be hitting him up for my gown
I'm generally in agreement with you bitches again although I didn't like any of his separates, not even that blouse. I didn't mind the moss green in Amanda's gown, but you're right that it might have been more eye-popping in another color. I wasn't a big fan of the antique lace gown - the color was a little too Miss Haversham antiquey for me - but clearly was a lot of work to make and probably looked better in person.
He really is a gown guy and should focus on that. The styling he should leave to someone else - the hair and shoes are dreadful.
This homo-centric back and forth is surely not the best barometer of Rami's talent. It's hardly any matter to Rami, obviously he and his business will increase exponentially after all this PR4 attention.... So you bitchy bitches can enjoy your catty cat commentary all day, while Rami's formidable talent and visibility takes his career to the stratosphere. Check it: at the 2009 Oscars I GUARANTEE you will see many Rami Kashou gowns on the red carpet -- you will see zero from Christian (unless that vile bitch Victoria Beckham shows up, but she's never invited).

I very much liked Rami's shirts (blouses?) and the gowns minus the hip panniers. i also like Rami as a designer in general and as a person (from what we saw on the show).I do see why Christian won, though, his collection was much more fashion-forward.

I don't think the problem is with the colors you guys think are drab. I like them. It's that blue and the reddish-pink that seem wrong in being a bit garish.
That said, some of these things were lovely. Like you two, I love the antique lace gown.
I thought the evening gowns were stunning (except for the hideous gold gown with the Gwyneth Paltrow clone model, ugh!). The colors? Meh, not so much. The lace gown...Nicole Kidman, here's what you should be wearing to the next Oscars!
Amanda looked beautiful in that woven gown!!! Glad to see her, since we hardly got to know the models this season at all.

I work with fabrics daily, and to hear a reviewer call that color "pink" speaks volumes to me about her credibility.
Anyone in the garment and/or fashion industry could never even see it as such. You can call it magenta, raspberry even burgundy but certainly not pink.
It's so off in my opinion that it actually seems staged, to refer back to the Project Runway show.
What starlet would ever wear Christian's big bird outfits on the red carpet? None. Rami is a gifted artist that we will see and hear A LOT from in the years to come. Christian is talented, no doubt. But [insert Tim Gunn's voice here], "Who will be the next big fashion designer?" The Answer: Rami Kashou.

Cathy Horyn also writes for a newspaper and she's someone highly respected in the fashion industry. And no, I'm not comparing both, and that wasn't my point.
The bottom line here is that whoever has anything negative to say about Rami's collection is being attacked in the most cowardly way. All I said was that I wished these same individuals could come here and express their disagreement with a little more respect and a better choice of words than "crackhead" or "tranny". That's all.
Unlike other blogs, this one encourages "lively discussion" and "strong opinions" and I would love to hear what those so strongly in favor of Rami's collection would have to say without being insulted for half-disagreeing with them; I did love the last gowns you know.
The red blouse was lovely, the pants were AWFUL, the suit blah, and the gowns,with the exception of that terrible gold lame number were very nice BUT it was not even close to a winning collection.
Chris was right when he said that Christian would win but that Jillian should have.

You all can tare apart as many seams as you can find about Rami's collection but in the end.. it doesn't make a difference.. in the end it was the most beautiful and elegant.. I thought.. don't tell me that Christian's same look that came out in black 6 times was that memorable or fabulous.. or Jillian's 3 different directions or too many inspirations that were all mixed in 12 looks.. Ram,i is the only one who told a story.. and even though I wouldn't wear all the looks, I pretty darn close would wear most of them. The "real" fashion industry and not just TV fans would know better and would judge the work simply based on the work.. and not based on a favorite "character" on the show..

HAVE is a verb, OF is a preposition.
WAIST is what's around your middle, "waste" is trash. TEAR is to rip, "tare" is a paticular measure of weight, or the weed vetch.
I happen not to like the lace gown at all - I think the rows and rows of lace create too many very busy lines of pattern. Maybe its the photos I'm seeing, but it looks like a pattern one would see on upholstery to me. I just took another good look. It says "wrapped mummy." And the ruffled circles on the shoulders are to much of this muchness.
I don't care for this collection at all, save for the final black gown, which was dramatic. Most everything else suffers from Rami's skew toward the matronly and colors that are not appealing to most. Including me.

I loved all four of the evening gowns, yes the gold one too! I think with the gold, he was letting the fabric speak, and I have never seen a back like the one on the gold gown.
The woven bodice and draped skirt on the olive gown were masterful. Amanda was the perfect model for that dress.
The antique lace gown was stunning, the dress and the model have Elizabethian vibe. The amount of work in the dress is mind blowing.
The black one is also stunning, it looks like someone *really* wants that dress on the auctions!
I wish he had bumped it up a little with the accesories. Like veils or crowns with these, would have been smashing.

Well Nina Garcia, the editor of Elle seemed to think that Christian did the best. The majority if not all of the judges also thought so.
If you think Rami had the best that's fine. For you it was the best collection. Many people thought so. Rami is unquestionably talented. For Tlo it wasn't the best collection. Others felt that way and that includes respected members of the industry. Many people preferred Christian's dramatic looks. There were people who thought Jillian should be the winner.
Everyone's opinion about the quality of the collections are valid. It is too easy of a cheap shot to simply say a person's opinion is being affected by their feeling for a television character and therefore should not be respected or allowed.
I will tell you that that sort of condescension was going on another board by the Rami lovers against Chris supporters concerning the 2nd to last episode. While I've seen some people take uncalled for jabs at rami and his followers, I will say I've a lot more ugly remarks from some of the people in the rami camp.
It is just a tv show. Rami, Christian, Jillian and also Chris & Sweet P will appreciate all the support for their collections but they will survive just fine if negative comments are posted as well. We should be able to do likewise

I'm pretty much with Tlo, but I didn't hate some of the looks as much as they did.
I didn't have a problem with the moss green dress color as much as they did.
I liked about half his collection and the other half was just not dramatic, interesting or flattering.
Regardless, he's really good at his craft, he just needs to refine his aesthetic a bit more. Or maybe this collection is just a fluke and he produces better sportswear.
BTW, I didn't care for the shoulders on the antique lace gown. But otherwise a knockout.

Bravo to Rami for making a lovely collection. The gowns are simply heaven! :)
The top he made for the green ensemble looks like it went semi-transparent at the bust. I found that odd.
I liked Amanda's gown, except for the color, and the antique lace one, though I felt the latter was a tribute to Christian's Avant Garde challenge creation.
REALLY hated the hairstyling. The only models who looked halfway decent had the silly braid thing covered up by some other doohickey, but the hair was so wrong for those fancy gowns.
I'm sure Rami will do well. I hope some celebrities deign to pay him when he dresses them so that he can make a living.
I agree completely. The gowns, except for the gold one, are just amazing. Amanda worked the hell out of that woven once. Fuh-eerce. I wish I could see the last one up close. It's hard to appreciate the details from photos.
I actually love that olive dress Amanda wore....I even love the color, but not on me. I TURN that color when I wear it.

The more I look at his collection, the less I like it. My only really loves are the draped color blocked dress and the weaved dress (despite its muted color).
Yup, what you said. I thought most of the evening looks were gorgeous. But I must admit, I wasn't wild about the antique lace gown. Maybe it just looked flat on the projection screen. Or maybe it's that it caught the lights in person in a way that the TV just couldn't show.
I have a question! For those of you who saw the collection in person: was the "red" color closer to red, or to magenta? Even the first two pictures on this post show VERY different colors, though it's the same garment. I must know!

My colors were off also - different on the right and left sides of the screen - perhaps reflecing Rami's and our view of the color!
COlor is very personal. Skin hue and color taste rule when picking outfits. But Rami was being very, well, less than mainstream in his choices.
I remember both Lucian and Biddell in PRC using weaving. Is weaving in vogue right now? Or were the PRUSA designers aware of the PRC designers work?
Lucian did make a comment that he felt Biddell's use of weaving showed his influence on Biddell's work--possibly empty vanity or possibly there is some truth to the statement. Only Biddell would truly know.
Thanks to TLo, for saying so eloquently what I can't seem to get across without incurring the wrath of the usual firing squad. I honestly, objectively thought Rami finished third behind Jillian. And the worst part about the gold gown, (irony of ironies) is that it was draped badly and hung poorly on the model!
I wish Rami all the success in the world, but for me, this collection was not a winner.

The woven and lace dresses are nice but that's about it for me. I don't mind color, but the colors were off and the designs were too. They were also not arranged within the show better. He had both magenta/black outfits next to each other and then both teal outfits next to each other, and then the olivey military outfit thrown in for good measure. They just didn't flow right.
He's an established designer and this will definitely help move him into new territories, but it didn't do anything for me.
I really hate the styling on those models. Their make-up is so pale they look like they could faint at any moment. From a distance, the single tight braid makes them look like they're bald and wearing a little cap. I swear, every time I see that girl wearing the olive green one armed blouse and pants I do a touble take. She looks like she's dying.
Regarding the weaving: If you watched Project Runway Canada, they had weaving in it as well. I think both here and there it is beautiful but not 'new'. Same goes for his use of zippers on a seam in the denim challenge. I think it was Heidi both times (weaving and zipper seams) that thought it was 'new'. Maybe Lovely Rami knocks all past designs from her head?

I actually *like* high waisted skinny-pants. Rami's black pair, w/interesting knot at the waist and buttons at the cuff...would be just my type if not for the ghastly thighs.(saved that pic into photoshop-- lighted the details.)
Heavily-piped pocket flaps(!) with 1" buttons placed right at the fold of the hip-thigh ...inflatable raft, sez me, don't sit down for God's Sake!...the model looks like she's got a 'package' just standing. (visual of Heidi's comment about dangling the runway sausage~~)
The quilted number suffers from olive -monochrome overload, needs a pimento colored beret ...but I will concede, the materials look *rich and buttery * for the skin. He's got something going on there. (tip o'the hat)
The woven gown. Nothing critical to say about this one. Rami should start production on this one soon, before the knock-offs start rolling out. (well, steel grey would be preferred)
The gold gown. One-sleeved evening garments and I aren't friends, especially if they're gold lame. I recuse myself.
The lace gown. Runway worthy and looked stunning on that model.
The black gown. There's been a plethora of reflective, garbage-baggy materials on the runway/red-carpet from several 'pro' collections, can't say I get the vibe...wonder what this one would have looked like in one of Rami's bolder colors.
Overall...agreed that he does evening wear best. Good on Tha' Rami.
As much as I liked most of the evening gowns, in the end, each had some element that would have put me off buying one (if I had that kind of money or social life). Twas the color on the woven bodice gown, the neckline on the gold/lace gown (it just seemed, I don't know, juvenile on closer inspection), and the hip pads on the black gown. And everything on the gold gown. Excellent analysis as usual, boys.
Seeing it on the big runway made me appreciate the black evening dress. He really did make black look fluid. But he still needs to learn that women do not look good with big saddle bags on their hips.
Brooklyn Bomber, you cracked me up when I read your "it's should HAVE won, not should OF won"....that "should of" has been used in many prior posts and it's made me cringe each time. I feel so much better now to know I'm not the only one!

I would have loved that gold lame gown on someone with Julie Newmar's figure. It needed someone with curves and Va Va Voom, not that string bean. Naomi would have done, too.
The olive woven gown felt very Valentino to me. I personally wasn't put off by the color but wouldn't it look wonderful in red?
Didn't they do a quick flash to the back a teal jacket when Heidi mentioned the woven technique looking new? The back of the jacket was woven also, but I didn't get which jacket it was. I'm wondering if there a woven detail on the front too.
I honestly didn't have a favorite of the final three, they all had major hits and a couple misses and it was interesting to see who would be "In". I think that was my problem this whole series, I didn't have a favorite to really root for. I would have slept with about 4 of them but that's a whole other show!

All I can say is thank you, TLo, for hating those black pants as much as I did. At least it sounds like you hated them as much as I did. Jaw-droppingly, inexplicably bad choice and it stuck out like a very very sore thumb.
And YES, the gold dress was bad but man, the model's walk and look was very weird.
The brown/moss color choice didn't bother me so much, from the perspective of actually wearing the thing in public but man, under the lights on the catwalk on TV, you just didn't notice the beautiful details.
Late to the party....agree with TLo on this one.
I don't think that this was a winning collection...but he does do some fabulous gowns.
Note to Rami's customers: don't let him pick colors for you!

I find his collection interesting and beautiful. I also really like the deep red, especially with the black. Gorgeous!

RAmi's collection is beautiful! he really is super talented!! can't to wait more of his collections. wonder where his career will be going from now.
I just saw in Us Weekly (3/15) a 2 page Red Carpet spread on celebs wearing the color "Cabernet" for this Fall. It's the same exact color as Rami's beautiful blouse here. Call it Cranberry, Magenta, Cabernet etc...I call it beautiful.

I liked very little of this collection and think he should have been second runner-up instead of Jillian.
The only look I truly love is the long gold-cream dress. Most of the others made even 90-pound models look hippy and the separates were both off and garishly coloured.
The only reason Rami wasn't auf'ed long before the finals is because the judges were crazy about him (shades of Daniel Vosovic) for some strange reason. Chris's collection was better than his, but nutty Sissybear sank himself with all that human hair.
