Darlings, between the move and various work-related responsibilities, we weren't able to tear ourselves away from our desks and go to Malan's show the other day. BUT! That doesn't mean we can't look at the pretty pictures, now does it?
Once again, Malan presents a glam, old Hollywood-inspired collection in blocks of neutrals and blacks and whites but this time, it shows a polish and professionalism at a higher level than previous collections. Malan is maturing and coming into his own as a designer and it's nice to see.
Just one thing, Malan Darling. Prints! Look into them! There's nothing to be afraid of!

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend and all the garments were gorgeous in person!
It was very well attended and I hope Malan feels complete pride and joy at such a stunning collection!
What is hard to see from photos is how many times there were also delightful details when the models would turn and you could see the back of the garments!

HI MADELINE!!! Okay darlings, I have got to bitch. Malan doesn't NEED prints I don't think. His style is all about the shape of the garment, the draping and the tiny details which make it so unique. His style is about seeing the whole woman, not just the garment.

my first impression of malan was poor. and now i adore him. it's nice to be surprised in life and malan has turned out to be a great surprise. love him. love his work.
Hate the formal shorts, hate the bridal hair, but love the silhouettes and a lot of the outfits. I like that he used such a diverse array of models. So many of the fashion shows would have one or two models of color and a sea of white faces (and arms, and torsos, and legs...).
Where does this man get his financing? His fabric looks muy caro!

Every time I see that he's showing, I think of his exit interview and wonder if his mom feels like crap for being so non supportive. He looks so happy! You go, Malan!

Okay, I have trouble with good makeup--which girl is Melrose?
Wasn't the model in the copper pantsuit Austin Scarlet's model? She always had a severely curved back.
If we're calling dibs on outfits, I want the 4th one on the left hand side.
Lovely, but a little costume-y methinks. (I don't intend that as a slur).
Melrose is the one in the little blue jacket with the navy High-wasted pants. She's the only blonde with hair pulled back.

Malan has certainly come into his own. He's truly established a signature style-- Elegant, demure, just a touch sexy. The lines are young enough for the Tinsley set, yet I can see myself sporting the silhouettes as well. Especially the adorable blue shift, both pants ensembles, hell, everything (God, that gold pattern dress just sends me)!

I love Malan, what a sweetheart - his collection is gorgeous! It's sophisticated and wearable. Most stuff I see on the runway I wouldn't be caught dead in, but I'd wear most of these garments. Good job Malan!
It sucks! Way too minimal and boring. The make-up is nice for a drag queen.

I'm sorry but I don't see the "old Hollywood" glamor. this collection looks much too modern for old Hollywood. The silhouettes are very now.
I'm so deeply in love with that nude top with the carnation satin tulip skirt. I never would have thought to put those two fabrics together, and the design is gorgeous on her.

Is the white dress with the champagne sash a wedding dress? I hate the deep V-necks. For some reason I just don't like the look of them. Maybe because it reminds me of scrubs. I do like how clean the collection looks. Almost a bit mod in some outfits. It's very refreshing to see especially since there's literally nothing at the mall right now that doesn't have a trapeze, empire waist, puffy sleeves, etc. It sucks living in the midwest!!!!!
I hated to see Malan get booted from PR so early in the season, but I'm thrilled to see that he's put that exposure to good use.
I agree that the makeup is varying degrees of drag-queen/Amy Winehouse awful, but the clothes are great. Bravo, Malan!

I usually love classic lines in solid colors and I love Malan, but the silhouettes seem a bit frumpy to me. Many of the outfits make even these thin models look box-like so imagine what normal women would look like. There are a few exceptions to that which are lovely.
The deep V's reminded me of Laura (which would have been a good thing) but without her fabulous fit. And that one pantsuit reminded me of Wendy Pepper's runway collection (not such a good thing).
What I keep wondering is how Malan can afford to do all these collections. Did he get backing from someone?

Sorry I'm late to this discussion, but L'Shana Tova to all Members of the Tribe.
I was lucky enough to have snagged a ticket to this show & was glad I did. First, I'd like to say that I met Malan once before & he is an absolute sweetheart. Truly. He went out of his way to be very kind to an old friend & her 14 year old daughter who were in town visiting, and stopped by his shop, back in June.
Now back to the show: I saw Malan beforehand, while I was waiting outside to get in & he popped out onto the sidewalk for a moment. I said 'goodluck' to him & he came over & gave me the 2-cheek European kiss-kiss, as if he knew me.
He did know the person standing next to me though & we were chatting a bit. She asked if he was nervous & he said, mostly just exhausted and nervous. He was waiting for one of the models who hadn't shown up yet (less than an hour til the show was supposed to start). He looked amazingly calm. The errant model finally did show up at least a half hour later (she's the one in the little black shorts), but I thought it was lucky that she looked like she didn't need any make-up.
I saw Diana from Season 2 there, as well as Emmett (who was very fun to talk too - though I could hardly hear him, because the music was so LOUD!) Good music, just loud. I also saw actress Christine Ebersole there.
Now the clothes: beautiful. Most of them I couldn't wear, (because of my chubby little Jewish thighs) but then, I can't wear most clothes in any show. But the pant suits, however, I could wear and so I liked them the best.
I would say also, that the colors, in the photographs posted here, are not an accurate depiction. In person, the colors were very different - subtle and lovely: Especially that one pantsuit, which in person, was a great chocolate brown color. And the dress with the little frill (for lack of a better word) exposed under the hem, another one I could wear, was a great shade of yellow.
The models were so, so skinny that I wanted to run home & make them a lasagna. One of them looked like she lost her concentration & almost got lost walking down the runway, and I assumed it was from severe carb deprivation. I wondered what the clothes would look like on normal women - not chubby - just thin, but toned, healthy women (career women who work out). Personally, I think the clothes would look better (but maybe that's just me). I understand why designers use the emaciated models, and if they ever used normal, healthy models that would probably take all the press attention away from the clothes (the media being what it is). Still, it would be fun to see sometime.
Malan is just the nicest, sweetest guy, (truly!) not to mention a talented designer and he deserves all his success. And I am thrilled to see that happening for him!

P.S. - that person standing behind me in line, had said that that evening, she was going to see a runway show by Keith Michael (the tossed designer), which was being held at a club here called Kane. Don't know if that means anything, that he decided to do it there. Pretty funny. (But then, my sense of humor can be a little warped).
...Sorry I went on soo much, but even at that length, I left a lot out, (like how great that wedding dress would look on a spring bride).
