The fabulous Kara Janx recently unveiled her Fall 2007 collection and we have opinions, darlings!
That very high-waisted balloony skirt thing is a KJ staple. It's cute, but it's definitely for the very young and very thin.
Love these two. A more tailored look than we're used to seeing from Kara. Still rocking that super high waist, but with a more structured feel to it.
These are both adorable. That one on the right just screams "party dress." We've said this before, but we just love Kara's color sense.
Cute, but we can't say we like that bib thing on the right. CORRECTION: Lorenzo loves it. Tom doesn't.

We love you Kara, but we are OVER the metallics - although we like both dresses.

Oh honeys, it's not a bib thing, it's a pleated inset! Marketing makes all the difference. I love the collection overall. And, giving the truth to the "you can take the girl out of Jamaica Plain, but you can't take the Jamaica Plain out of the girl", I still like metallics. Just not METALLICS.
She creates beautiful clothes, although I couldn't wear any of them. That said, I wish there was a little more color in the collection, since she's so good with color juxtaposition.
Her clothes are gorgeous - they look feminine, funky, vibrant, and beautiful.
I love Kara's designs. Her sense of color is amazing.
It take years, sometimes decades, to become a great designer. Kara has what it takes and I hope she will go all the way.
OHMYGOD I love her collection. Great choice of models too. My sister has her kimono dress and gets compliments all the time when she wears it.

Kara never ceases to amaze me with her talent. She should've been the winner of S2. BIG TIME!
Beautiful. I think Kara is the most talented of the PR alumni. The shadow stripe muli-layer tent is my favorite.
What happened to the fabulous colors she's so good at? Really only a couple outfits in that whole collection with real color.
I hate most of those shapes. Even skinny girls look a little oddly proportioned in them, and anyone with a figure would just look bloated. They're just not flattering to anyone, or... aesthetically pleasing. Although I seem to be in the minority on that opinion.

Not every collection or design aesthetic is for everyone. I'm on the chubby side and most of these clothes wouldn't look good on me, but I can fully appreciate the beauty of them.

fabulous collection! I also like that you can mix and match so many of those items and give yourself a whole new wardrobe.
It's a solid and aesthetically cohesive collection. I really like it. Kara is, without a doubt, one of the most talented designers from the show. Go, Kara!

Kara was slanting a lot of her designs this way before she became pregnant--and that's just fine. I loooooooooved my tent dresses in the 60s (despite my brother nicknaming me 'the neurotic bat' because of the sleeves on one). I wish I could wear them again, but the sands of time hath settled in a different pattern.
I actually *like* the metallics in her collection. Like you, I'm sick to death of them in general, but these two looked nice.
I tried on one of Kara's kimono wrap dresses. I looked like a dowdy, saggy chested old witch. I guess you have to have a curvy figure to pull it off but if does not look good on someone skinny and small chested, like me. I do love Kara Janx and her designs so hopefully these clothes will fit me better!
That red headed model looks totally pregnany in the purple dress at the bottom and the black dress at the third row down.
I think those outfits are lovely. No wonder her designs have been featured in so many magazines.

I happened to catch the feature that Lucky Magazine (yes, I buy Lucky) did on her and was totally impressed. Her site is amazing and so are her collections!

In my next life, I plan to have long, skinny legs, so maybe I should buy a couple of these dresses to be buried with, (like the Pharohs) - Not that I'm planning on leaving anytime soon, it's just that being a recovering Girl Scout, I want to be prepared. I'll take some cookies too, so I guess, there goes those legs. Sigh.
I do adore the last skirt though, & could actually wear it.

A few months ago I might have posed the same question. But now that I've discovered 'Musical Mondays', I've seen the light, and I know that if you are wearing a hat on your 'special parts', of course you want to show it off. Am I right?

Is it me or does anyone else have a problem with some of thoose empire-ish waists? On some of them the seam cuts right across my boobs!

You are soooo not alone. I had to buy a dress for a wedding in June, and half the dresses I tried on had the boob cups coming only half-way down my boobs. In order to get anything in those styles that fit the boobs, I had to get go about 4 sizes too big for me everywhere else.
I know it's a tired refrain to say design clothes for the larger women, but my request is just when they up the sizes, remember that it's not a straight ratio.

Yeppers. The times I wear a dress (invariably a shirtwaist, and the hem several inches below my knee), I always have a slip or petticoat on. Of course, mostof the time I'm wearing pants or slacks; we aren'tforbidden to wear dresses or skirts, but it's just easier to work in pants.
Maybe if we go shopping together, we can get a discount?
Kara's designs are fabulous. She just keeps getting better.
I like her new collection, but realize it's skewing a bit younger. I wish she would bring back her silk kimonos--I actually have some money to afford one!

I actually really like the looks and the styling along with model choices and photography is great!
Kat and Suzanne, I totally feel your pain. The "hourglass" figure is supposed to be beautiful, but literally nothing fits. I can't buy any wrap tops or empire-waisted dresses, let alone those cute tank tops with separate panels for the boobs. Button down shirts simply don't fit, I just don't buy them. I've gotten used to the stares and comments (not all friendly) when I wear tshirts. Pants have to be taken in about six inches at the waist. I hardly ever buy dresses because I have to have them essentially re-sewn to fit. I don't think my figure looks that weird, but it must be, because they just don't make clothes to fit me, in any size!

Kara is definitely one of the most talented of the bunch, with every collection she is just getting better.
Really like these all. The "bib thing" dress reminds me of some of Bradley's work that everyone hated so much. Hmmm.
Also, amen to the comments relating to the absence of clothes made for the hourglass figure. I've never been able to wear jeans in my life -- at sizes 4, 8, 12, or 16 -- because there's always about four extra inches at the waist, and I refuse to do elastic.
kara's an extremely strong designer in my opinion...
it generally makes sense that she was the first PRer to make it onto a vogue-ran page. good for her.
as for the collection... all strong.
i think she should make a few more jackets and pants and then show her stuff boutique style... and attempt to have vogue cover it kinda like tory burch.

Her work seems well priced for the quality and the current look-- clearly of a better construction and fabric than Target clothes. I like that is still somewhat classic and I could see wearing these for several seasons. Well done. I'm 44 and would definitely wear several pieces-- an easy way to work this type of silhouette into my wardrobe. (BTW, I do wear slips when it makes sense, but I'm not getting why this collection prompted a slip comment?)
