Congratulations, Jillian!
Thursday, December 06, 2007 by Author
YOU are the winner in the most boring episode ever!
Feh.
How did this happen? On paper, this had all the signs of being a fabulously entertaining hour. You had Nina in the workroom, looking (of course) fabulous.
You had goofy fashion trends being fought over and you had a team challenge, something that a lot of readers seem to dislike, but we find to be a great source of over-the-top-drama.
Oh sure, there was some minor drama with these three but since it was all whispered, we could barely tell what they were tense about. Besides, our eyes kept glazing over.
Will Kevin finish his shorts on time? Will Rami and Jillian (who are looking more and more like a brother/sister act every week) whisper their disapproval to him? Darlings, we could barely finish the second bottle of wine, we were so tense!
We went from thinking we were going to hate Jillian, to letting our bitchy hearts open just enough to start finding her charming, to falling asleep at the sight of her. She's so monotone that it's starting to get on our nerves. Where's the showgirl wannabe from her audition tape?
As for the challenge, at first we thought it sounded like a great idea, then we thought it sounded like an impossible idea. It must've been, because the results last night were all mediocre and the winning entries just barely fulfilled the requirements of the challenge at all. Let's go to the tape:
This is cute. Tim was spot-on in his required 30-second appearance when he said all the clothes in the collection looked like something Jillian would wear. We guess that's not a bad thing. She certainly has a personal style. And it says good things about Kevin and Rami that they were willing to defer to it.
As we said, very cute and also well-executed. Here's the thing, though: are these really overalls? It's a jumpsuit with a blouse. If it had been done in any fabric other than denim, it wouldn't evoke overalls at all.
We like the blouse too. Strange, because we don't normally like that kind of frillery, but the sheer fabric works against the denim.
And technically, this isn't a poodle skirt. Seriously, had you not known the inspiration, would you have guessed that it was a poodle skirt? Or would you have guessed that it was a square-dancing costume?
Again, well-executed, but that almost goes without saying with these three designers. We like the bodice and the trim.
We realize that they weren't supposed to literally recreate the looks, but this seems to stray fairly far from the concept of a poodle skirt, what with the ruching and the bands of trim. Poodle skirts are very simple swing skirts cut in a circle without much in the way of tailoring (none, really).
We guess if you squint a little, you could say that this had a '70s flare to it, but this owes more to the '30s than the '70s, although granted, a lot of '70s fashion was inspired by pre- and post-war trends, so technically, it fulfills the requirements.
We do NOT like the top on this thing. The fabric is kind of ugly and the collar makes her look like a blooming onion.
Although we really do like the shorts, but they weren't really worth all that understated drama and we're not sure why it took Kevin so long to make them.
The final looks were decent enough but we have to say, aside from the fact that they were all rendered in the same fabric, they didn't really look all that cohesive. Kevin and Jillian's looks sort of went together, but Rami's looked like it wandered in from another runway show.

oh fuck all of them. i don't even care. i'm still weeping into my pillow over the loss of chris. my sweet fluffy teddybear funny darling man, gone.
i can't help but think he was sacrificed for his fluffiness because the ass produced by the lingerie boy was far worse than the precious one's garment.
boo hoo hoo hoooooooooo. sniff. sob. whaaaaaaaah. chris. Chris. CHRIIIISSSSSS!!!
oh okay. congratulations jillian and team. sigh.
Oh, is the show over? I just woke up from my PR coma. Methinks Miss Ricky best have her bags packed for next week....NEXT!
Most interesting thing was the end tease showing Miss Muscles cry'n her eyes out...what happens? He and Dale from Top Chef break up already?
Everyone is so negative... am I the only one liking this season??
And I understand being negative... I liked Chloe and Uncle Nick and all them so much that Season 4 took me awhile to warm up to. To me, its just the same thing again. Its going to take awhile.
One question: how are they getting all these bitchy clips of Jillian??
The second that "poodle skirt" dress hit the runway last night, I started singing "swing your partner round and round..."
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who got the down home vibe.
after all of this can someone please explain what the fucking true meaning of "cohesive" means.
chris leaving is breaking my heart.
Thank you for saying that collection wasn't cohesive. I thought I was the only one.
As for the boring in this episode, I hate to say it but there were quite a few people who disliked last season because there was too much drama. Well, it seems your wish has been granted.
I think the next challenge should be to get Tim more air time without him saying "Make it work" or "Carry on." Bring back the fabulous!!
Fuck VictorYA. I hate her snotty, evil, duplicitous guts. What a biatch. Of course, seeing Ricky cry is always comedy, but that woman was the biggest bitch ever and he shouldn't wasted a single tear on her ass. Can't wait to see what she does with big ugly bows next week.
I, too, am crying over the loss of PR's first sissybear (I do believe T&L used that word somewhere). That dress was fabaliss, but the jacket wasn't great. Of course, it had shoulder pads...but what was up with the judges then BERATING him for the damn shoulder pads? How many ways can shoulder pads be made sexy? They need to take Aunt Michael Kors' bottle of sherry away.
This is the most half-assed season yet! High drama mixed with "bleh" results and LOUSY judging.
T/L, DO SOMETHING! Get Laura Bennett to airlift some glamour and talent to these whiney twits, this season is starving for fabulousness!
Jillian would actually wear these designs because she already has! Didn't she wear a fluffly green shirt in a past episode EXACTLY like the one in her design? Sure, ok, the clothes were all really well-executed. But that's not designing when you're remaking (cough! copying) a design off your own back, down to the last sleeve flutter or denim suspender.
Belle, I totally join you in mourning. Chris had the potential of bringing an element of FUN to the show that is often sorely lacking. Jillian Schmillian. I miss Chris already!!
(But I suppose I'll have the opportunity to expound on that more tomorrow.)
You are right-it was a dull show. And sorry, your sweetie-pants can't do as good a Tim imitation as Santino.
NOT my favorite episode. I was hoping to see more from Chris. I liked him.
Waiting to see who stabs VictorYa with a pair of shears......
I did like Jillian's and Kevin's looks. I've thought since the beginning that this team was the final three with one wildcard thrown in (probably Victorya or Sweet Pea).
Ricky dug his own grave by deigning to argue instead of focusing on his look and completing it properly. He's bored Nina one time too many and that's the kiss of death.
I am having trouble with Rami's model though, she looks like a slightly thinner version of the Russian fashion model from that commercial in the 80's "Day ver...Evening ver, verry nice."
I really liked this episode. It was very fashion driven; the last too episodes put way too much focus on personalities. While I love SJP & Tiki Barber (foine!), their presence overshadowed the execution of the clothes. Here, it was all about the work. While I really liked the Jillian collection as a whole (I would vote yes on her design being overalls, considering the existence of straps and where the bib hit the body, hence the name), her "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" look is burning an angry little hole in me. I'm sure you adorable boys will get to Princess ToteGay's collection, it was my fave.
Emma P.
BTW, I.HATE.VICTORYA.
Watch your back, Ricky girl. That bitch will passive aggressive you out of existence!
Did the producers realize that the requirements of the challenge pretty much guaranteed that everyone would suck? They *must* have realized that this would be the third challenge in a row--out of four altogether--that didn't allow the designers to compete as individuals making womenswear...which is kind of the *point* of Project Runway, isn't it?
Did the judges learn nothing from Vincent last year? If they give someone low scores and very negative feedback repeatedly, yet keep choosing more promising designers to auf for momentary lapses, we're going to think the show's fixed. If they're going to keep Ricky no matter how badly he does, why should we bother watching?
I like the designers a lot. This season is not their fault.
Totally agree about Rami's dress.
If he actually *had* done something closer to a proper poodle skirt, there might have been more cohesion.
I got that square dance hoedown vibe right away, too.
shoulder pads: except when grossly exaggerated, shoulder pads are fabulous.
i don't care that they're deemed out of fashion. especially for rounder women or those who don't have an angular build, a little propping up at the shoulder can make all the difference between a garment that hangs well and looks fabulous and one that doesn't.
the joan crawford suits of the '40s were and still are ultra glamorous. they were padded to the nth degree. there's nothing wrong with shoulder pads, though these were a bit hefty.
i'd rather see a padded shoulder and a nice angular line than some of this messy crap that gets passed off as high style these days.
give me a nice crisp gabardine suit with a plunging neckline, a sharp shoulder and a pinched waist any day over some polyester flowy patterned hideous thing like so much of what passes for style now.
just because it's stylish doesn't mean it looks good. show me a crisp '30s or '40s shoulder-padded suit that doesn't look great on and exaggerate the femininity of the wearer. i want clothes that look good, not clothes that are deemed stylish by orange-faced folk like the duchess.
i love chris!
I'm sure you'll get to it, but I can't believe Chris is gone. There is no way in hell you will convince me that his was the worst dress on the runway. Elisa's was pathetic, as was Rickie's, and even Chris's teammate who made the Kimono-like karate raobe and called it "dancewear" was worse than his.
It was almost like a pre-determined vendetta against Chris.
A decision (by the producers?) to auf him.
LOVED Sweet P's outfit ... and she was so adorable, if I could have reached into my TV set I would have given her a hug.
The best part of last night was Elisa saying she would chose herself. The judges simply don't know what to do with someone who won't play by their rules, but is still so gracious they can't even respond. So they took it out on poor Sweet - what is it - P? - yeah - Sweet P - such a silly fuss she made...but Heidi just used her to work out her frustration over Elisa. Which... in turn...makes me think that Elisa had better watch out - the aliens on this planet may be after her soon...
they should have let Chris stay just to market that PR fragrance of tears, sweat, and Chinese food.
I hate Jillian's look, so I was not especially fond of that collection. And oh how I hate "formal" shorts. Just, no. When Jillian was wearing those balloony shorts with leggings under...ugh. I wanted to shake her.
and I sort of liked Chris' jacket. So nyah.
"Mike B. said...

I agree, I want to see what they can do individually. Team challenges are a waste of time and talent.
And by the way, Mike, did I mention that you're cute (ok, hot)? :)
I'm heartbroken over Chris..they didn't even give him a chance.
I'm NOT liking this season of PR. I can't put my finger on it but something is "auf" to me. Maybe a victim of its own popularity?
You got it just right. As usual. Jillian and Kevin's looks were interesting, Rami's was meh. But I don't see cohesion here except in the fabric either, and that was Chris' cohesion plan also. Except he's chubby and a costume designer, so they threw him out. Assholes.
Jillian is talented and dull without being sweet. Kevin has more talent than I originally thought, though how could a jeans designer take so goddamn long on denim shorts? Rami is still smarmy.
No fear, darlings. We'll have a lot to say about poor Chris' aufing later and you can all wail and rend your garments on that post.
My favorite part of the whole episode was when Nina asked Sweet P who she thought should go and Sweet P was bringing the Carmen and agonizing and Nina just rapped out, "Sweet P!" in the same tone of voice I talk to my kids in. Worth watching this whole yawn-fest of an episode just for that.
I thought the collection was cohesive. I thought the tops on the overalls & the poodle-that-wasn't worked together, and the fluffy top over the shorts tied that in nicely with the overalls.
I mean, the whole thing was ass, of course, but I see where they were going with it.
Anne
I'll miss adorable Chris but not his 'designs', which all look copied. Last night's was very Krystle Carrington impersonator.
It's not the most talented designers this season (oh puhleeze) but the most professional.
Getting lessons in conflict resolution from PR is kind of a new experience. Doesn't make for lively TV though.
I can't believe Chris is gone! I'm so upset! I thought for sure that this would be Ricky's swan song but nooooo, they sent home one that I really liked!
It looks like the villain for the season is going to be VictorYa. What a bitch, setting up Ricky like that. First, she doesn't volunteer to be project leader- knowing it would be her head on the chopping block if something goes wrong, then she takes over all the leadership anyway, knowing that Ricky would be crucified by the judges for not being more assertive. I don't trust her.
Bring Chris back!
I tell you right where those three outfits belong:
Jillian's
Rami's
Kevin's
I sort of loved that they won for desiging outfits for Tom & Lorenzo's Musical Mondays.
Jillian's a bitch, Rami's full of himself and Kevin's a freak. I can't believe this was the winning team.
We love you, Bill.
Boy oh boy, Miss VictorYa really threw Ricky under the bus, eh? I'm thinking the reason the judges auf'd Chris instead was because lil' Ricky had to put up with that micro-managing monster.
I have to admit, I really liked Jillian's collection. It was a clear win. But you could not have picked three more boring-to-watch designers.
I'll miss Chris. Have to agree with the Orange Duchess though, that jacket was definitely M.O.B.
My husband watched the last part of the episode with me, and as soon as Chris was eliminated, he said to me that Ricky wasn't auf'ed because he's more dramatic, even though Ricky was in the bottom two for the second week in a row.
I'm going to miss Chris...I don't think that he really had a chance to show what he could do.
Rami's dress was hideous. He's got technical skills, but so far, everything he does makes me "question his taste level"
WHY is this season so BORING?! Is it because our Tim is nowhere to be found?
Jillian is growing on me and I liked her outfit. I disagree with the boys. It looks like overalls to me. The other two outfits were ass, though. If Rami's had been done in acid washed, it totally would have looked like a Cover Girls video.
-Soli
What is it with VictorYa's love for squashing women's boobs? When Ricky pointed out that she was making her model look flat-chested, she said she likes that look....Miss V, if I wanted my boobs flattened I'd schedule a mammogram.....
why does everyone keep saying jillian is a bitch?
-moira-
Team challenges suck.
Thank You, Big Ass Belle!
I love shoulder pads as well. I have very round shoulders and as you state, the addition makes the blouse/top/dress drape better.
T&L, do you guys have psychic abilities? Just yesterday you posted that Chris would be ignored by the judges until he got auf'd for some stupid technicality! I didn't believe you, but...sob...
I thought that Christian, Kit, and Jack (?) had a cool little collection, but it didn't look so hot on the runway. The details got lost, and the detail work was where it was happenin'.
I like ol' Jillian, and think she pulled off a killer design despite some terrible guidelines (flare overalls? gah!)...
As far as sheer technical skill, her, Victorya, and Christian are really tearing it up. Their personalities may be bland or annoying, but the finished pieces have looked great for the most part, and they can sew like Burt Reynolds in Cannonball Run.
It's a bummer Chris is gone... in the end, he lost because he was too nice to be pushy with his teammates, I think. If all three designs had been stronger, and made more sense together, he might still be around, but he got wrapped up in that DYNASTY jacket rather than wrangling the other two.
Ah well.
"Boy oh boy, Miss VictorYa really threw Ricky under the bus, eh?"
I dunno...
She gave him credit for the fitting, and then he blamed his teammates for taking up all his time so he couldn't finish his awful mess.
That was kind of a dick move.
even after reading the pro-shoulder pads comments, I still do NOT understand what the judges wanted from Chris: how can you make shoulder pads look "relevant" and contemporary, but still BE shoulder pads? You know if he'd gone smaller with them, they would have asked: Where are the shoulder pads?
The hoedown dress was horrifying. And those shorts were oogly. I also have to say that VictorYa's and Ricky's dresses looked like dance recital costumes from 1989.
I totally disagree. I'm actually enjoying this season quite a bit. I mean, yeah, I have things to say about it that aren't all that great [the judging decisions seem to be way off this season], but that's because I'm an avid watcher and I've seen every season so many times.
The judges condemned Laura for making clothes that she would wear.
The judges let Jillian make much less lovely clothes that only Jillian would wear and only Tim Gunn notices?
I already miss Cris. And the little jacket he made was wonderful in his use of the print.
Elisa's big black slightly embellished pillowcase...WTF?
Bonnie
Oh my! I didn't get to see the show yet. I thought Chris was great....Now I will be depressed all day at work.
I can't believe that Chris got auf'ed! This was definitely a snoozer of an ep. But it looks like high drama is up for the next one!
I still can't get past the horrible shoes and accessories Bluefly is providing. Fugly!!!!

And that just made my day!!!
TLO - I love you both for the public service you perform with these reviews and this blog -
I like Bill. His links are worth clicking on.
I have to say I agree that last night was another snoozer. My litmus test for these things is how long it takes me to turn the brain off afterwards. In the good old days (i.e., Seasons 1, 2 and 3), my brain might be whirling for upwards of an hour or two. Now, it's right to Dreamland.
Has PR [snuffled sob] jumped the shark already?
I disagree! I thought this episode was one of the better ones! Totally thought Christian's team was robbed but didn't mnd the winner, Jillian too much. As for Drama: We had Victorya showing her Uber-passive aggressive bitch side! Totally cutting Ricky out at the knees in front of Tim and then on the runway. Then there was Raimi with HIS whisper-bitchiness in full "I'm superior to everyone here" effect. And then, of course, the formulaic drama of the "choose the teammate who gets aufed" moments. I have to respect Sweet P here on that choice. She was true to her impressions of what garment (Stephen's) stuck out even after the judges lambasted Chris. And how cool is Elisa?!?!
Dare I say Luvies that perhaps you're Project Runway pooped! You've blogged as much about this show as any programming exec if not more. What else could be behing all this negativity as of late??? I think it would take Micheal Kors in a Wendy Pepper Samba suit to get y'all excited about this season...but the elements of fun and drama ARE there...and so is the talent. There will only be one Jay , one Michael Knight, one Laura Bennett and that's the way it should be! The more we keep looking for them in this crop the more dissappointed we'll continue to be.
Oh, did I say Victorya was a Beeeeeatch? It's worth repeating.
I like Chris, too, and I'm sorry to see him leave.
But that jacket with the wiiiiiide shoulders and that drapery fabric reminded me of the Carol Burnett parody of "Gone With the Wind." You know, the one where she wears the curtain rod and drapes across her shoulder.
Ok, I just remembered (enough coffee, finally)....the overalls were VERY Carrie Bradshaw Goes to Jury Duty.
I knew I'd seen them before....in about a zillion different incarnations over the years.
The troll drama inspired me to make up a new name. Troll seems gone (yay), but I kind of like the new moniker, what do y'all think?
I'm using it today especially in honor of all sissybears, who seem to be the best PR contestants. I miss Chris already. What a bullshit aufing.
And how in the world was this group a "clear winner?" I don't get it.
-macasism
This was suppose to be the "best group ever". Boring!! And I'm so sorry Chris was let go - he had talent and was at least entertaining!!!!
The insane collar on the shorts outfit looks exactly like something Megan made early on in Project Runway Canada. It was freaking ugly then too. I hope it's not some kind of (gag) trend.
I don't understand why you thought last night was so boring. The previous week was much more of a snooze. I felt a bit gyped that we didn't get to hear the judges talk about the winning look. They had Donna F-ing Karan on for Chrissake!! It would have been interesting to know what she thought.
i don't hate steven, but thought his imitation of tim last night was profoundly cringeworthy.
self-conscious and self-congratulatory at the same time. and not terribly funny.
k.
I didn't get how the shorts fit into the 3 "don't"s that the team was supposed to work on. Were they overalls? Well, no ... they were shorts. Did they have wide legs? No ... they were just shorts. Did they have a poodle skirt element? Maybe the neck tumor was supposed to be a poodle skirt?? I can't tell.
I just didn't understand Kevin's outfit and how it fit in. Plus I am still crying about Chris being sent away. I had high hopes that Whining Ricky would go instead. Sigh. Sad sad day.
anonymous 11:51:
that scene in Gone With the Wind where Miss Scarlett manages to turn Miss Ellen's green velvet portieres into a ravishing high style garment worthy of the courtesan she was willing to become surely had some influence on the creators of Project Runway.
though imagining this crop of designers turning dusty green velvet and a rooster's tailfeathers into something so luscious doesn't quite work for me.
except for chris. my (sniff! sob!) chris could have done it. the sweet darling.
They had Donna F-ing Karan on for Chrissake!! It would have been interesting to know what she thought.
Word.
You know, I think back over the episodes and I can't quite understand what they're spending all their time on. Is it because there are so many designers? Will we see more of the deliberations later in the season when there aren't quite so many looks?
Anne
I thought thie team deserved to win! Jillian did a great job as a team leader and I don't get this whole thing about Jillian being a bitch. I don't think so. VICTORYA is a snobbish uber-bitch!
I have vowed to say something positive this week. so here it is...You are positively correct.
I don't blog it and agree with the Boyz. It might get more exciting when they pare it down. I liked Chris will miss him.
P.S. to Bill -- your links were fabulous. Thanks for bringing me a smile on a gloomy day.
How freaking adorable was Sweet P last night?? What a doll. She kicked ass on her garment to.
Eliza continues her wickety-whack behavior. She needed her hand held throughout the entire process ... and that's what she produced?? A shift dress withtriangle cut-outs. I think I mad something similar in 6-grade Home Ec.
And where was the poodle?
(I want a poodle skirt to have a poodle.)
Eh. It did seem the work was identifiable as "from the same group", but honestly, I just didn't care. I didn't like the foofy top on the overalls, but liked the overalls themselves (and they do look "modern overall" to me, actually). Rami's dress was fine, but I wasn't really thrilled by it. Kevin's top is crazy. Srsly.
But I don't know who I would've chosen instead, so I guess congratulations Jillian... who seemed a little nicer in the episode than I've felt she was before.
Really, Chris being auf'd has pretty much killed my interest in the show. The judges are clearly on a different planet than me (which is not the planet Elisa is from, either), so, whatever.
I have total apathy about this season at this point.
I liked Chris' dress AND the jacket. So there.
But boring is the word for this entire challenge. Although it may seem counter-intuitive, I think it's because they put too many disparate elements in it. "Let's make them do outdated trends!" "And update them!" "Hey - howsabout we make it a team challenge, too?" "With one minute to run around picking their teams?" I'm just surprised they didn't make them sew standing on their heads.
Oh my god Bill, that was funny, you are dead on where the outfits belong, and thanks for reminding me of Musical Mondays that I do so miss (hint, hint T&L)
=)
Has anyone put forward the theory that next week's episode will be something to the effect of:
Jack has to bow out of the competition for some reason
Chris gets brought back
Everyone is happy.
If not, I'll make it official.
I miss Chris! Rick has been at the bottom of the barrel 3/4 of the time!
What Ricky Says: “I can do this; I know I can do this.”
What Ricky Thinks: “I will become the reality show contestant whom everyone rallies around. I will be adorably sensitive and puppy-dog-like and America will rally around me.”
What I Think: “Stop crying. Is your hat too tight? Is that it? Get it together! Oh, and what’s with the whining about Jack stealing your model? Didn’t you celebrate model-stealing last week when you stole the girl from Elisa?"
" bitchesdye said...

Me likey. Good choice. :o)
i have to say that i did not think this collection should have won. i thought christian's was way more interesting and modern. but whatever. i'm resigning myself to the idea of hating this season's judgments.
the aufing of chris has really killed the charm of season 4.
anyway, rami's dress was one of my least favorite garments on the runway. there is something seriously wonky about the way he did the boobs. nevermind it's overall boringblahtackyblandzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
I knew this collection would win as soon as the shorts/poofy shirt stepped onto the runway. NinaGarcia cannot resist a shapeless shirt with a lot of crap crumpled up around the neck, a la Daniel V. and Bradley B.
Jillian once wore that same exact frilly shirt from the first outfit. She basically recreated her own wardrobe. But I thought it was cute and I really like Jillian's style.
" Patrick said...

ROFLMAO.
Mjude, "cohesive" means what ever the judges decide it means any particular week.
I did think Jillian deserved the win she was a good team leader and her collection was strong (although I liked Christian's better).
I think her piece qualified as overalls because it was a one piece garment with straps (thank god she didn't have to use those awful brass findings).
Kevins was a bit of a stretch for the 70's flair, but where can you really go with that? Maybe they could have done the short overall and the long flair pants with a high waist, but the silhouette of the collection would have remained the same.
I feel like Rami had the best "trend" to work with and he did the least with it. That bottom tier of his skirt does appear to be a circle that is gathered into a yoke, but he really could have done something more interesting playing with the volume and flairs in a circle and fooling around with where the fullness hits on the body. Oh well, I enjoyed the episode, but I was half lit so who knows.
It's funny how people hate victorya for being a bitch, but this blog is all about being bitchy. This is project rungay after all. She complimented ricky on the runway and criticized. In a way, she was at least being fair. When you need to go in self-preservation mode, people stop being nice.
Elisa has won me over though. She is a bit kooky, but she seems like a genuinely nice person. However, I think she knew she could pick herself and not get auf'd. The judges already complimented her outfit. No way she was going. But it did seem genuine.

I noticed a couple of posters are saying the Jillian copied herself, by using designs that she has already done.
Of course she is, they all do that. It is completely honest and very good strategy to use designs that you have already worked on and perfected.
"Anonymous said...

a) And than God for that. I need a place where I can speak my mind without having to be positive all the time.
b) Victorya was bitch, the entire episode. I mean, there is no other way to put it. I think she wanted to run the team but didn't want to risk getting Auf'd. Who knew Victorya could end up being the passive aggressive bitch of the season?
Actually, I slightly enjoyed this episode (for the first time this season). But I was waiting the whole freaking time for an explosion from Ricky...how could he let that self-absorbed jerk walk all over
him? C'mon Ricky, grow a backbone!!!
Jillian deserved the win this time, IMO, those looks (like them or not) seemed the most polished and cohesive.
And by the way, Mike, did I mention that you're cute (ok, hot)? :)
*blush* Oh, stop.
Jillian has been the biggest surprise so far. After that audition tape, I was expecting someone absolutely n-u-t-s. One of the things that people are reacting too though, is that Long Island nasal monotone. It's part of the regional charm here. You get used to it. It probably helped her with Donna Karan.
I don't know how much the judges took team leadership into account, but if they did, I'm thinking that that's a big reason why she won. She balanced out 2 very strong personalities (though, it looked like the really fun team to be on was Jack, Kit & Christopher).
As for the outfits themselves...Rami's dress looked like something they'd have sold at The Gap in the late 70's. And Jillian & Kevin's outfits looked like something from Macy's during that same period. Dull, but pulled together.
There seems to have been so much this season that hasn't been pulled together, for some reason. Being complete would have garnere extra points, I'm thinking.
--GothamTomato
Ok, I'm going to be a bitch. Do people know what passive aggressive means.
People who are passive aggressive don't go up to someone and say "I don't like this" and honestly speak their mind.
Victorya changing her look without consulting could be construed as passive aggressive. But she went up to ricky and had a heated discussion.
that isn't passive aggressive people. She was actually pretty forthcoming with what she thought during the process rather than waiting until the judging.
Maybe she's a bitch, but she isn't passive aggressive. She is just controlled which I supposed could be misconstrued as passive aggressive.

The troll drama inspired me to make up a new name. Troll seems gone (yay), but I kind of like the new moniker, what do y'all think?"
Me likey. Good choice. :o)"
Me likey too. I'm sticking with my name though (just relying on the boys to delete the fakes).

I think team challenges are ok if each designer has to create an outfit. Then it's not just based on team dynamics. you also have an outfit to judge that person on.
If Chris had created Sweet P's outfit, I doubt he would have been auf'd.
This episode was BORING, and I thought Christian's team should have won.
The denim "poodle skirt" was FUG, and the shirt on Kevin's outfit was HORRIBLE. TRES FUGLY.
I almost fell asleep watching this episode. Unfortunately, it was one of the only times my husband has sat down to watch a whole episode with me, and his reaction was, "What is the big deal about?" Based on last night's show, I agree.
I need DRAMA. Not fake drama. Oh how I miss Santino, Andrae, Jay, Laura, pretty much everyone from every other season of PR.
This collection wasn't the best sent out on the PR runway (that title is reserved for the 2005 or whatever collection from Season 1), but it was polished and cohesive, especially taking into consideration the almost impossible challenge they had to deal with. How can you make shit look fabulous AND on top of that manage to make it cohesive?
Me likey too. I'm sticking with my name though (just relying on the boys to delete the fakes).
Thanks for the votes of confidence, guys. Since I announced my new name I'm still troll fodder, but I wanted to acknowledge the sissybear hag that I am. And I watched the finale from Season 1 last night. I love me some Jay. (Kara Saun is more of a bitch at each reviewing, sadly.)
Why, oh why, Chris, Why?
I'm getting more and more annoyed with Sweet P's mugging and double-takes on the runway. I find her endearing during the process, but she acts like a 6-year-old in front of the judges.
And VictorYA? Enough already.
And if that's all I can come up with to say about the show, then it clearly was a bore. We need to see more of Christian crying, less of Ricky in general, and lots more of Elisa's new-age antics.
They had Donna F-ing Karan on for Chrissake!! It would have been interesting to know what she thought......Agree as long as I don't have to look at her too long....reminds me of Alice the Goon. (frightened scream sound here)
Victorya simply knows what she wants and too bad if whiny bitch Ricky can't handle it. He and his stupid hats must be banished.
Christian was the most entertaining to me last night, especially the twirling in front of the mirror. I hope the Princess sticks around a while.
I don’t think Kevin reminded us he is straight.
Shoulder pads look good on women who want to look like men.
Finally, I found myself calling even Heidi a f..ing bitch when Chris was “aufed” even though I suspect it was really the Duchess and DK who made that happen. Thought it would have been Ricky since he particularly displeased Nina. Maybe if Chris had blamed his teammates (like Ricky) instead of taking the responsibility like he did he would still be around. Chris’ aufing is the low point of the season thus far.
I don't think this season is boring because there isn't enough drama. I think it's boring because there isn't enough fun. There have always been people who were fun and funny (Jay, Robert, Santino, Kayne, Laura, Nick) and that mood is contagious. Who is there like that this season? Chris is the closest and now he's gone.
I thought it was interesting that the top Nina had on in the workroom was a short version of the dress that got Megan booted from PRCanada. And it was also interesting that Nina seemed to be saying that over the years Elle has photographed and championed a lot of fashion don'ts. Interesting position to take, and she seemed a little wooden in her delivery.
Jillian is a professional with a quiet, little girl voice that drives me nuts and a fashion style that seems very little girl as well. Please don't win again.
Look, here's what's passive agressive about Victorya. She's seen the show before and she knows that proclaiming yourself the leader puts your head on the chopping block. So when it comes to decision time, she says, "i don't care" which is a baldfaced lie. She wants to run the show, she just doesn't want to get canned if things go wrong. Ricky was stupid enough to fall for it.
Smart gamesmanship or pure evil? You decide.
Can we just cut to the Final Four: Jillian, Rami, Kit, Victorya?

Rami confronted Jillian on her choices and decisions. How isn't he an asshole? Victorya is NOT a bitch.
Kudos to Jillian and her team! They produced the best outfits without having to resort to drama. I HATE team drama.

I'd say Jillian, Rami, Christian, Victorya.

I don't hink she is a bitch or an asshole either. She did without a doubt get the bitch edit. But over a course of 2 days working in a stressful environment (almost)anyone could have 15 min worth of bitchy outtakes ( I certainly would).
Jillian has been consistently good and I think she'll go far. It's ironic that the designer wearing one of the "don'ts" is actually the one who wound up winning the challenge. Congratulations, Jilly!

I don't know that Victoria is a bitch either, but she sure is a wackadoo. A lot of the stuff she was saying made absolutly no sense and was so contrary, she sounded like one of those people who walk down the street arguing to themselves.
And poor little Elisa looked like she wanted to hide under the bed because mommy & daddy were fighting.

Leave VictorYA alone!!
(Tears rolling down my face)
Leave VICTORYA ALONE!!
(Sobbing profusely)
YouTube video coming up soon!
Oh, yes, Jillian did well. Yeah...
Ohmygod. I am afraid I am going to go into a comma like I did with Top Design. I was so brain dead that I actually didn't react to poor Chris leaving - I just couldn't watch Ricky cry ONE MORE TIME, so I turned off TV and went to bed. The obscene phone call we got at 3:42 am was so much more interesting.
Sally suggested that
Jack has to bow out of the competition for some reason
Chris gets brought back
I've seen this speculation elsewhere, that Chris is brought back to fill in when (if) Jack leaves. Remember, though, that no one was brought back when Keith was kicked off. So, much as I'd love to see Chris return, I don't see it happening that way.
Is the trim on Rami's dress the same as the fabric on Kevin's top? If it is, then the dress is hoe down and I hate it. Where would a sane women wear that dress anyway? A fish fry? I'm actually from a small town and those bitches there would laugh their asses off at that dress.
Remember, though, that no one was brought back when Keith was kicked off. So, much as I'd love to see Chris return, I don't see it happening that way.
If you listen to Tim's podcast from that episode (why isn't he doing those anymore?), he explains that the original plan was to not have an elimination--but the producers changed their minds at the last minute. My theory is that one of the remaining challenges was meant to be a team challenge with a double elimination, and it was revised to enable them to do it with one fewer contestant.
Whoops, forgot to make a point there. Anyway, I don't think they'll bring Chris back either, but it's not out of the realm of possibility if they find themselves short one designer. They weren't averse to bringing eliminated designers back in S3, and they haven't been in PR Canada.
does anyone remember the name of the model wearing the overalls on the display card?
i remember at one time her face was all over the place.
k.
this show was just sort of. bleh It was like it never got started. no real drama... it jsut sort of wasnt great.
I think VictorYa is getting the bitch comments because she didn't want to be team leader, but then wouldn't let Ricky lead. She kept trying to take over. So she wants power and authority without responsibility. I do understand the point that these comments are often influenced by gender (i.e. strong women are bitches) but in this case I think it's justified.

Lauren, I think.
OMG, Jillian and Rami really WERE separated at birth!
Mmmmm, blooming onion.
...Yeah, that's all I got.
I am starting to wonder if the producers are deliberately trying to make the woman on the show into something more than 'passive agressive'. They deliberately edit Victorya to come across as nutty - especially when she asked Ricky why he wanted to be the leader after the earlier seen shows her prodding him into being the leader. And they've already done their damage to Elissa - and somewhat to Sweet Pea. I just think they are playing fast and loose with the editing. I watched Season 1 yesterday as was struck by how different the commentary was in Season 1 vs Season 3 and 4. I hate to say it but it just seems - misogynist to me. They did the same thing with Top Design and Sheer Genius (but we spotted that and we rallied around Sheer Genius). Because it's so obvious as to what they are doing - I've been pretty detached and have been doing some head scratching to figure out what's really going on. The bottom line is the editing is making the judges seem extremely hypocritcal when compared to Season 3.
Ugh!!!
Shark jumping it is. It's feeling a lot more like the Top Design disaster.
Madame Ovary - You are right! Who would wear that dress anywhere, even a fish fry. I think their look was crap!
Wasn't one of the outdated looks fringe? Did ANY of the outfits have fringe on them? I was looking for fringe and didn't see any but the camera angles make it hard to see details some times.
If there was no fringe, then why wasn't it mentioned, and the team that was supposed to use it singled out?
(I'm thinking it might have been the Kit /Mike /Christian team because I associated it with Pleather when I heard it, but can't find that detail on the internet.)
I liked Chris, too, an felt a pang when he was auf'd. But I liked Jay McCarroll, too, and think Chris may have been too Jay-like for his own good -- the judges are NOT going to give it to another overweight funny gay guy who makes flashy clothes on-screen, and then burns out once the camera's are turned off.
I *liked* Chris's outfit, including the jacket and the sleeves. The only thing he could have done with shoulder pads would be a matador jacket and I don't know that you could buy that many bangles for $250. Or maybe an NFL t-shirt looking thing, but would you really want to parade an NFL shirt in front of Nina Garcia?
Me no like this chic. There. I said it.
Of COURSE its not a goddamn poodle skirt but that doesn't MATTER because they are all worshipping at the church of goddamn REMI this season. I am SO OVER HIM. That shit he made was Miss Arkanas' clogging costume from 1987.
I hate Rami's dress. I bet he ends up Final Four, but, lordy I question his taste level.
-- desertwind.
What a bunch of boring c****. I really hope they pick it up because I have yet to see anything that makes me gasp.

I know he's extremely talented but so far, I'm not impressed. Maybe he's out of his comfort zone?
Is it just me, or did Kevin's blouse remind anyone of Daniel V's inspiration challenge ensemble?
This was the most BORING episode ever. I have to totally agree. I loved the menswear episode because I laughed my ass off, but this one was such a snoozer.
I don't know why these three stooges won, these outfits were hideous, all of them. The collar on that one shirt was a joke. I beginning to wonder if the producers are dosing the judges with LSD.
If this keeps up, the show will be cancelled before it is over. What a disappointment.
Jillian, Kit, Rami, Kevin are all pretty boring and dull. I just wish Jillian would stand up and yell "I didnt take the bitches dye, that's fo sho!" That's the difference between this season and the past 3. No fun stuff going on. No funny people (except princess) but one nutcase cannot the whole show carry.
Seth said," don't know why these three stooges won, these outfits were hideous, all of them."
I am still laughing at that. I can see them, Rami is Curly, Kevin is Moe and Jillian is Larry. I was just waiting for Moe to do the eye poke on Curly and Larry. hahaha.
Sooo interesting is your commentary,I must admit to agreeing with about 90 ish percent of all you guys say, usually. I thought this episode really was back to old school creative form for PR. One of my all time favorites and definitely the best soo far this season, especially after hitting the series nadir the prior week(I am still in a tizzy over letting Tiki choose!).
I would buy that 1st overall look with the vintage looking blouse right now if it were for sale!!!!!
I adored the Jillian collection!!!....but to be fair she has been my all along fave.
You knew it was going to be a low-key episode when the melodramatic promos showed this clip
Jillian: (whispering) I'm kind of worried.
Rami: We'll just agree to disagree.
Jillian: uh huh
Um, was that supposed to get me fired up to see the drama...because THAT was just a reasonable conversation between people who didn't seem very angry.
Jackie, that's hysterical! You're so right too. And the sad thing is, that was practially the most interesting thing that happened during the episode.
Anne
Rami's favorite color is Dishwater Gray.
Yeah, I didn't understand why those shorts were portrayed as the greatest thing since Jesus. But I did like (not love) these looks and did think they showed the inspirations and worked together as a collection.
Have you noticed how conservative this crop is steering?
That poodle skirt was bizarre. Lots of things they could've done. Why they choose a hoe-down is beyond me.
I love La Diva down to the very bottom of my bitter little heart, but does she not believe in conditioner or what?
Oooooo, I wanted to reach into the screen and tear Victorya's face off. I don't even LIKE crybaby Ricky but the poor guy couldn't get a word in short of showing her how bad the boob-fitting was.
Is it just me or does Jillian just LOOOOOOOOVE onesies? Does she wear a catheter or a colostomy bag somewhere b/c having dropped my straps into the toilet several times as a child, I learned that overalls are just a bad concept.
CHRRRRIIIIIIISSSSSSSSS! My heart is breaking, dahlings, simply breaking! He was the ONLY designer I could stand the idea of spending any "face time" with. To have him gone means we'll have to spend the rest of the season with this pack of untalented IDIOTS, including Hairthing. Oh the horror, the horror! And, as an expert in vintage clothing, I can tell you that was NOT a poodle skirt in any sense of the word! Poodle skirts are circle skirts, not squaredancing skirts! It was a crime against fashion!!!!!!!
Excuse me, I need a mojito.
I don't know if I've ever laughed aloud alone as hard or for as long as I just did from the blooming onion comparison (and the accompanying google image search results)!
That was booring! But I can't believe Ricky slithered out of elimination AGAIN!
The guy's really, really lucky, is all I can say. Though Chris's jacket was truly awful.
