Ripping the Collections: Jillian, Part 1

It's Baby's turn!

We haven't tried to hide the fact that we loved Jillian's collection the best. It seems to us that in a competition like Project Runway, the final winner should demonstrate not only a strong point of view and a sense of innovation, but also the ability to get their clothes on racks in stores, and more importantly, on the bodies of consumers. Retailability and wearability are just as important as a strong editorial sense. Clearly, the judges don't agree with us on that one as they tend to more often choose strong points of view over clothes that women actually want to wear and buy. That's fine. There are plenty of ways to look at fashion and their view isn't wrong in that sense, just different from our own. Jillian showed a sportswear-themed collection full of items and elements that looked new and fresh to our eyes but at the same time, looked like clothes that a lot of women would love to own.

If you didn't know anything about the 3 finalists and didn't know who showed what, it would be fairly easy to peg this collection as the one designed by a woman. Not only for its chic femininity, but also for its near-perfect styling and accessories. The hair was long and bouncy and the makeup classic and pretty.

Let's start the show.

Love it. A very strong opening look. That coat is simply gorgeous. We love the lapel treatment and the head scarf. The fabric is beautiful and the accessories are perfect. Love the belt and the boots with this look. We don't actually love the hat. Laura Bennett recently teased us by saying we always criticize hats, which came as a surprise to us. We love hats. We just aren't huge fans of women wearing fedoras because we think any irony or surprise such a look might generate is long in the past. This look definitely needs a hat, but we're just not crazy about this hat.

We are, on the other hand, crazy about her gladiator-helmet knit caps. Very fresh, kind of witty and just plain cute. It's definitely a look only a younger girl could pull off, but then again, that seems to be the clientele she's aiming for with this collection.

That skirt is to-die-for. In fact, the whole look is. The scarf, the belt, the shoes, even the barely-seen sweater underneath. Just a fresh, chic, feminine look overall. Beautifully rendered, too. One of our favorites.

Another favorite. That's three very strong, statement-making looks in a row that don't look repetitive. Love the sweater. We wouldn't normally love the equestrian-themed pants but the whole look comes together very nicely.

*clunk*

It's our least favorite look. Not just because it's, to be blunt, not very attractive, but also because it feels like this model walked in from another show. Following up three sporty, knitwear-heavy, perfectly accessorized looks with a gold lame cocktail dress equalled a big WTF? from us.

We will say that the pleating is flawless, though.

She doesn't do it as often as Rami does, but every once in a while Jillian overworks something. This look shows a slight hint of that. The jacket is simple and classic, but those things on the sleeves and the pointy shoulders kind of detract from that. We're also not sure what she was attempting with that skirt but we don't like the way the hem hits unevenly.

The dustmop reference has already been made, but sometimes, you gotta watch the show with a straight man to get a new take. Ours said her sleeves looked like white cheddar cheese curls and after we stopped laughing, we had to agree.

Despite that, we actually liked both the top and the skirt. We just didn't think they worked well together (that sweater would look great with a pair of skinny black jeans) and neither of them looked right with this collection.

Spot on commentary.

She lost PR mainly because her collection wasn't cohesive enough. I didn't hate the gold lame dress but definitely agreed the former looks were stronger.

I LOVE that third sweater. I don't know how innovative it is, but I love the zigzagged line. Her model looked adorable. One of my favorites in all three collections.

As usual, TLo, I agree with enarly everything. I thought Baby Fembot 3000 or whatever fun nicknames were given to her during the show presented us many elements that could be translated into that great American tradition, sportswear. Remember SJP and her assertion that American sportswear should swing? Despite a few misses here there were elements of that swinging American style that I thought looked fresh and swingy and still workable over a range of the ages of woman (count me among the middle-aged).

Lerved that first coat with a passion! And the third look, the black jacket and brown pants, also lerve! Even lerved the fourth look once I got past the overdone bottom of the skirt. But hated the black and white sweater and with that skirt, there was just something really off-putting. And let's just forget about the metallic, shall we?

Best good luck to Jillian, I'll be looking for her coats and sportswear. That's not such a bad line, is it, kittens?

Some really wonderful pieces in there, and I wish she had had an objective eye (that was around longer than Tim was) to help her see what the strengths were, so that she could have edited out the things that don't work.

I love her longer, more sleek silhouettes. I can see where the fashion world maybe might be ready for a swing back to that Look No. 2 skirt, but I've never been a fan of it. I think if Jillian can grow beyond her own personal style and fashion preferences, she will have a bright future in RTW sportswear.

I've been trying in vain to figure out that knit hat on the last model. Is it a big black beret with a huge flower?? Is it the same one she wore on the show in the next-to-last episode? I'm a knitter, so I have a desperate need to figure these things out.

The Gold dress stuck out so badly...

But I do love Jillian, and whywhywhy did she come in third?

loved this collection, although i have said before that it didn't seem like a completely cohesive one - i believe that is why she didn't win. BUT - those clothes are fabulous - i agree with your comment about the metallic dress -- didn't belong at that point of the show, and it has a sort of "cocktail waitress at the stratosphere" vibe to it... not her best. i chalk that up to her inexperience in putting together a fashion show -- she admitted that she had never cast a show before, and that translates into probably never having done one at all -- she will undoubtedly get better at editing and placing the pieces to give cohesiveness to her shows as she gets more experience.

GO JILLIAN! You rock, babybot! I will be looking for your clothes in the stores. you have a great future ahead of you!

I loved the collection and so hoped she had won. Agree with what you guys have said about the wearability and salabilty (selliness?) of it all.

I found it cohesive. It's an homage to her favorit TV shows, isn't it?

In order:
Hogan's Heroes
The Avengers
Mr. Ed
Xena: Warrior Princess
Gilmore Girls
The Mod Squad

Spot on assessment, TLo! (Yikes, I see that the first commentator (who was not visible when I drafted this) used the same initial phraseology. And loves the 3d look, too.

That squiggly front sweater/jacket still rivets me, just as it had when I saw it in the Bryant Park pix that day.

All the best,

I have to agree. I actually liked things about all three finalist's collections and as a average sized professional woman in my 20s, would have actually worn Jillian's clothes. I wasn't surprised she didn't win though - especially because of the couple of clunkers - ehhh, the gold dress. I hope that Jillian is able to get financial support because it would be fantastic to see her beautiful sportswear in stores.

GothamTomato said...

I second those emotions.

Rami & Christian both treat the women who wear their clothes as muses, while Jillian treats them as contemporaries, and that is the difference.

I also didn't like the Xena Warrior Princess dress, but the rest were fabulous (even the sweater with the loopy sleeves). I could do without the hats though.

I really hope she does a line of affordable coats (like that first one) because most of the stuff out there is crap. There is just nothing at all under $800 that looks decent.

And a line of sweaters too. I'd say that right now the mass market retailing is pretty boring. I think she has the vision to liven it up. I hope she does a line that is at about the same price points as Banana Republic (affordable, but not so cheap, it can't be decently made). I would buy it.

I couldn't help but wonder whether or not she would have benefited from showing things in a slightly different order.

For example, the gold clunker dress, had it been paired with the black pantsuit concoction with the similar bodice, it might not have clunked so loudly.

Likewise the cheese puff sweater...if it had been in between some of the other knits, it might have done better.

Over all I think she was robbed, by I do not think that her career will suffer.

Anonymous said...

I'm fascinated with how the previously seen looks keep sneaking back. Clearly she had made some of her own clothes herself that she wore during the show, because we saw some identical silhouettes in her show.

Did you notice the "eyes looking at the floor" detail that she'd done in the prom challenge showed up again, albeit fit properly, in the little gold dress? And I wonder if she included that dress because Heidi was clearly excited by it in the museum challenge.

Obviously the coat with the tapered ruffled hem has shown up repeatedly in various proportions.

I was conflicted over whether Christian or Jillian should win, but knew immediately that I'd like to buy sewing patterns of many of Jillian's pieces for myself.

And where to get sweaters anything like hers?? They were fabulous!

Sewing Siren said...

I love her sweaters and jackets. I love the cheese curl sweater and the cha-cha skirt. I love the way she returns to certain elements, like the shawl collar, the fit and flair coat, the yoked dirdl, and the cha-cha skirt.
I didn't love the gold cocktail dress, but felt it should have been just before the show stopper (11th) in the line up. I really hope she gets something going. She is very talented. I am slightly obsessed with her signature jacket in all its forms.

Loved the loopy-sleeved sweater.

Loved the gladiator hat.

Most of the rest was chic, nice, and safely wearable.

(If something is so easy to make that you can sell patterns for it, then is that really an award-winning forward-looking outfit?)

I agree with pretty much everything you said, Boys. Only thing is that I though the cheese doodle sweater worked fine in the collection (at least better than the gold warrior-princess dress did), and as wrong as the gray skirt was, blue jeans would be better than black. But, you know. . . big deal. I thought she had a good shot at the win, and was so surprised by the 3rd place showing.

veruca salt said...

You are spot on with the critique, boys.

Personally, I loved, loved, loved, WTF?, meh, ugh. That first coat and the black sweater with the trim are to die for. Jillian, get thee to a retailer, your public is waiting.

And while your at it, throw in that gorgeous dress you were wearing.

Agree with you again, 100%. I know that the fashion world likes to distance itself from the great unwashed, which apparently includes me, but give me this accessible, wearable collection over 10 poofy black jackets and some chickenwear any day.

Go Jillian!

I completely and totally agree with pretty everything said in this post. But, I also wanted to add that although throughout all 4 seasons of PR there have been many items of clothing that I would LOVE to wear, I think that first outfit is the only one that I ever COULD wear. As a professional woman of somewhat Amazonian stature, I can say honestly and without vanity that that dress (in maybe a size 12 or 14) would look awesome on me. I need to own it.

I am ridiculously in love with her second look, if I wasn't a plus-sized beauty, I would die to wear a that skirt, that hat, and that scarf.

Jillian needs to sell those hats ASAP, seriously.

Anonymous said...

I hated the scarf/head cover in the first look. It looked to me like she was going to go out and shovel snow, either that or she has really bad psoriasis that she is trying to cover up.

I also didn't really love the second scarf, it looked to me like one of those cheap mexican blankets everybody gets when a relative goes on vacation.

Other than those small nit picky items I really liked these first looks of Jillians collection (well except for the She-Ra dress..good God!). They are indeed wearable and I love how versatile each individual peice is (again except the gold lame nightmare).

Anonymous said...

Iknew that she wouldn't win - no amount of editing or more "cohesiveness" would have helped her. Since Rami's fall from grace a few weeks into the show it was clear that Christian was the new golden boy and anyone paying attention knew he was going to win. I thought Jillian's collection should have won because it was the most original, the least derivitive, the freshest and youngest. And, yes, it was wearable. It's my favorite PR runway collection ever. I love the dust mop sweater - actually, I love that whole look, including the hat. Agree about the two clunker looks but the entire collection was so strong that I can easily forgive those two missteps. And how about that dress she's wearing at the show, as well as the dress she wore to the finale party. Both of them are amazing.

I must have one of her coats and one of her jackets and some of her sweaters. Maybe some of her dresses as well. I think she's a huge talent and I hope she gets the financial backing she deserves. I have no doubt that she'll be wildly successful if she can get her stuff into stores. Jillian, your clothes rock!

Anonymous said...

I wish we could have heard more of the comments from the judges. Jillians claims it felt very negative. Yet clearly Nina thought she had good ideas and well made clothes. She just thought baby had too many ideas and not enough identity.

The last part I concur. Most of the items she made i liked-on an individual basis but I felt like I was seeing 2 halves from 2 different collections.

oh well she got 10 grand and people know who she is

So the pointy shoulders on that blazer with the cha cha skirt make sense in theory - if she was really basing her looks off of armor, then that is how shoulder pieces were made in the 15th century (I used to work at an armor museum).

As accurate to her inspiration it may be, it still should have been edited out...

LOVED that first look!

I thought Jillian's collection had some great pieces in it. I tend to lean more toward the side of not caring about wearability, though. If I want to see wearable clothes, I'll go to the mall. In a fashion show I want to be blown away!

Anonymous said...

Can someone PLEASE persuade Jillian to bring out a book of knitting patterns?

Anonymous said...

lima bean - I may have to fight you for that zig-zag sweater!

I liked Jillian's collection best as well and was surprised she came in third - especially below Rami. Her work is wearing and quirky. I love it. I want her clothes!

Christian's clothes are fun to look at but I read somewhere that he said his skinny pants are "wearable" and make you look skinny. Um . . . in what universe? Remember at his Bryant Park fittings he joked to his models "not to eat" before the show? And they're already size 0-2!!!Forgive me, but I think I know maybe one woman in my life who could wear those pants.

Anonymous said...

I think that if she'd put the gold lame dress later in the show that she would have at least beaten Rami for the 2nd spot.

I thought her collection was plenty cohesive, and had an interesting them e -- until that dress showed up. If you leave it out, or move it to the 2nd half (3rd or 4th from the end) it actually makes more sense.

Really loved the opening look. I also liked the way she played with the pattern in the layered skirt (5th look).

She needs some help bringing the drama -- ordering the looks especially -- but I liked so many of her pieces that I'm sad she didn't place higher.

Jillian, I can't wait to see your clothes in stores so I can get me some. I've stepped up my workouts to shake a few pounds off so they fit!

Anonymous said...

I absolutely hate that gold dress, it does tend to linger on the mind and detract from the rest of the collection. Looks very cheap, and she's worked those boob'eye things again. Rather seems as though the model stumbled in from an Aladdin rehersal.

Jillian was robbed of second place!

Anonymous said...

Love her collection. Adore the hats. I'm glad you pointed out "wearability". (not the same as boring old "wearable").

"Wearability" is when you see and think: That's an interesting take I'd love to see more of. Something I hadn't thought of wearing before, but can now. It makes sense, yet it feels fresh. I'd be noticed in this, but wouldn't feel a fool. It would make me feel happy to see other women in this.

Not boring. Not corny.

(that gold dress! I'd love to know why/how she included it there. why she included it at all. the model didn't help & it's way too short, too. I suppose it's a take on her Art dress?)

Anonymous said...

Yes to what other people said about the two "clunkers" (gold lame dress and similiar bodice/pants number)...if those were closer together, they would make sense TOGETHER but they still don't make any sense within her sweatered, coated, sporty, equestrian collection! (Also lovely was the satin-y blue dress she wore on the reunion show that I think she must have made, also). Love you JillBot!

I don't know why she didn't show that one 2nd to last, because it (would have) paired well with the last look.
But I think that silhouette is one of her signatures. Remember the gold pleated mini romper from the audidtion tape? And on the first day of the show she had a white one one when she met Carmen. Then the "Art of" one, and this one. Im not that crazy about it, but it is extremely well made, and my friend that I watch the show with looved it (his favorite). So to each his own.

Brian said...

I thought the mop sleeves were absolutely hideous. The gold lame was also awful. The gladiator hats were also bizarre to me. Lots of nice individual pieces in this collection, but it didn't cohere at all.

Anonymous said...

I thought the gold dress alluded to the "armor" theme she mentioned in the first finale episode because it looks sort of metallic, especially with the pleating. But the neckline combined with the super-short length didn't work, it just didn't look wearable or attractive.

Her first two looks were my favorite; they grabbed my attention and stuck in my memory and I would love to wear them.

Leslie said...

Avid reader (multiple times a day actually, I'm hooked), first time poster.

I 100% agree that Jillian's collection was the most wearable. And the main reason I don't get completely nuts over most runway shows is because almost all of the outfits would cause me to burst out laughing at the wearer if I saw her on the street. Sorry for the run on sentence, but hopefully you get my point.

I LOVED that Jillian's pieces looked like something you'd see on a rack and on someone at the store, not just on the runway.

But it was pretty clear that her pieces were disjointed and she would have benefitted from making it all flow better. But I'd take wearable clothes over cohesiveness any day.

Anonymous said...

I second the call for knitting patterns. Vogue Knitting or Interweave--get a pattern from that girl.

I don't like the pointy sleeve things either--well, in fact, I pretty much agreed with everything TLo said. I really don't understand why Jillian came in second. Jillian has the one collection where I want pieces of it because I know they'll work with what I own.

And as others have point out--her stuff scales up--the average-sized woman can find things in her line, while the thin girls can find stuff that shows off how great their bodies are.

I really don't get how the judges seemed to not factor in how much more wearable/saleable Jillian's collection was. And, unlike Chloe Dao's, it had some edge to it.

Well, Jillian's very ambitious--so I think we'll find her in Macy's, online, etc.

And her flat affect will keep her from being pulled too deeply into reality-celeb hell.

I couldn't agree with the Project run-gays more! The wide range of beautiful, well made, wearable clothing that Jillian made should have won the competition! She made a really good point in her exit interview about the judging of fashion by celebrities being all about their personal taste. Of course, everything is a matter of taste in fashion, but I feel that had someone who works in the industry been a judge, she would have won. Her knits were truly amazing! Sculptural and wearable. She really showed the wide scope of her talent. Way to go Jillian! I know I will be buying your clothing one day-hopefully soon!

Anonymous said...

Really liked her collection very much. One of my favorites of all of PR.

I just wish the busts on her dresses wouldn't stare back at me. It freaks me out.

Anonymous said...

I disagree with you here and there. First of all, the skirt that you said was to die for? Eep, I hated it. The way it hits her hips and then flares, it sorta reminds me of the skirt from a cheerleading uniform, kinda britney circa hit me baby, and it doesn't work for me with the styling from the waist up. A cheerleading skirt, a sweater with a large fringed scarf, and a knit gladiator helmet? I guess I should also admit I'm just not a fan of Jillian's skirts in general. There's always something about them that looks wonky..sometimes it's the length, the placement of the flounces and ruffles...

Let's see...unabashedly LOVED the gladiator knit caps. Very cool! Thought the gold lame gladiator dress was the most unattractive piece to walk down the runway in all three of the final collections. What was up with those weird footless sheer leggings? I don't mind leggings as a rule, but what the heck was that?

Footless leggings aside, the styling overall was pretty but not really interesting. I don't get what long bouncy hair has to do with an Argonaut armor inspired collection. Femine but strong, is that what she was going for? I dunno, in a cerebral sense maybe that works, but visually, all put together, it didn't make enough of a statement. If the Argonaut painting was her concious through line, she lost that through line quite a bit in some of the choices she made.

My favorite pieces were the black sweater with the squiggly detailing, and the mop head sleeved sweater. Mop head, schmop head. I like those sleeves, they're quirky and innovative, albeit not really a good fit with the rest of her collection.

Indeed fellas! I totally agree. It was definitely between Jillian and Christian, but IMHO, Princess had no clunks, zero.

I hated the gold dress, very short, and I am sorry to say this but I found it tacky. The pointy-shoulder jacket was hideous as well. On the other hand, I loved the black and white sweater, it was definitely interesting and different.

Best wishes to you Jillian. We love ya.

The beginning and some of the middle looks had a very Jay look to them with their heavy knit looks, but that's ok.

I actually didn't mind the bronze-age dress. It's better than th gold one that she made for the Art challenge, but still in that realm. Her biggest problem is a bit of cohesiveness and she didn't go BIG. Except in the shoulders of the one sweater and that wasn't good. Rami had big dresses and you can't get much bigger than Christian's stuff. She's been trained too well at Ralph Lauren!

I agree with you guys that Jillian should have at least come in 2nd over Rami. And you pointed out things about the first few looks that made me appreciate them more.

In a different season, she would have wiped the floor with the other finalists. But unfortunately she did battle in the Season of Fierceness.

After sitting through S4, I keep pondering the aim of the show: to find the next great fashion designer. It's a tall order, and I wonder if, after crowning the first three, the producers rethought what that means as well. Jay fit that mold nicely, he had vision and a POV, but was just starting out. Then we gave the prize to 2 established designers, who already had a bag of tricks to make their collections, and who took the money and basically grew the businesses they already had. Not as exciting, nor does it speak well of the ability of PR to trumpet "greatness".

It was time for another young, unestablished Mozart to be crowned. Another Jay, another unpredictable, unconventional, hard-to-sit-down eccentric/visionary. And Christian fits that mold like no one ever could.

Jillian is gifted, and as she further hones her tastes beyond what looks good on her current body, she will take over the industry. Rami is Rami, and will certainly not starve.

But Christian is a force, and while the wearability/retailability question can be raised about his winning collection, there's no denying it was an incredible introduction, and something on which PR could proudly put their seal of approval. I think it's going to help sustain PR's lifespan and relevance just as much as it's going to help Christian. And I can live with that.

Sorry for rambling, you just never know when it's going to happen. ;)

I would kill for that third sweater! I liked the skirt on the fifth look, but then I'm a fan of asymmetric hemlines. You are, however, quite right about that extra bit of fabric on the shoulder/sleeves. It would have been better without it.

The cheddar cheese curl sweater is a really fun piece, and it works very well with the skirt.

The short lamé thing, well, you can have my share of that. I'm not a big fan of lingerie masquerading as street wear.

The first 2 looks were the strongest.
The third is too reminiscent of Ralph Lauren in my opinion. Could come right out of a Ralph Lauren boutique.
This was also my problem with Christian's collection, looking too similar to collections past by someone he's worked for.
The fourth look is a miss, proportions are off.
The 5th has an amazing jacket, but ruined by the skirt.
The 6th look came out of left field.

In defense of Jillian, she tried to do a "collection" which is what I feel the challenge was.
It is extremely difficult to do collection in only 12 looks. Rami pulled that off and Jillian did too. Her's was just not so cohesive.
Great job though.

Retailability and wearability are just as important as a strong editorial sense. Clearly, the judges don't agree with us on that one as they tend to more often choose strong points of view over clothes that women actually want to wear and buy. That's fine.

I don't actually think it's fine. Not if the producers and Bravo want the show to be remembered as something than another here-today, gone-tomorrow reality show.
One of the things you girls have noted is that none of the previous winners have made much of an impact on the industry. And none of them ever will if they keep picking winners whose clothes will never be seen in Bloomingdales or Bergdorf.

Christian won because Posh was a judge. And Posh is one of the few women on the planet who can wear his clothes. I think Jillian would have won with any other guest judge. And there would have been a chance for a winner to have an impact on the industry.

Though I would buy MOST of what Jillian sent down the runway which is a lot more than what I can say about Christian and Rami- I feel like it was an INC/Macy's collection and not necessarily new or different or particularly innovative. Wearable and cute yes, but not reinventing the wheel by any stretch. And the helmets. Yuck yuck yuck.

Having said that I think her workmanship is probably on a par with Laura's and I am willing to bet that she will make good on that promise to make more $$$ than Christian will once they get going.

I really felt the judges changed their POV on "wearability." They used to value it, but not anymore. I also liked Jillian's collection the best, fresh and feminine, while being wearable. The sweater from the third look is my favorite. Actually, that whole outfit would be perfect for my tall, thin, Uma Thurman-ish sister. It screams her name to me.

The gold lame dress was horrible for sure. And I never got the things on the overworked sleeve on the fifth outfit.

Oh well. Good thing I'm not a judge.

Just finished watching a re-run of the finale and paid closer attention to Jillian's work coming down the runway. The jackets were her strong point of the collection. But, my favorite is still the black and white sweater!

Question for TLo: Did you see any of that drama with those housewives of NYC? It looked like it happened there at the PR finale show. Maybe we'll see you in next week's episode!

Fabulous collection! All my girlfriends said they would wear most of it. I love her aesthetic and attention to detail. Great pictures, guys. Thanks!

i can't really say i loved all of jillian's work. she had some good ones but it just wasn't consistent for me. but her being one of the top 3 is really great. she has talent but she needs to improve more.

>>I really felt the judges changed their POV on "wearability." They used to value it, but not anymore.<<

It depends on the season. Jay's win was the most exciting for me because it was about rewarding his artistry and vision. I was so disappointed with Chloe's win, because she got the nod for her practicality, wearability, marketability. I think the producers got burned after Jay flaked on the contract and moved away from looking for that kind of showmanship. Chloe's stuff was snoozy and although Jeffrey was edgier, I wonder how much his win came from the fact that he had an established business. With Christian's win, they finally got back to what I loved about Season 1 and felt like they missed out on in Season 2 and 3...taking a chance and rewarding the most envelope pushing jaw dropping runway show.

If one more person says they are spitting something on their computer because of this or that, I will scream. That saying is TIRED.

Well, well, well, another anonymous spitting invectives by means of the keyboard instead of on your keyboard because you're soooo jaded and bored by us - oops, I mean me.

Go get some rest, darlin', bless your heart. I will appreciate the humor written on this blog any which way I like.

I thought Jay's collection was artistic, creative , *and* wearable. Really the only piece in the collection that was over the top was the showstopper gown at the end. And even that one had possiblities.
The funny thing about Chloe's win is, I don't really think it was all that wearable or fashion forward. Daniel's was more wearable and commercially viable for sure. I don't know what they based that win on, but I don't think it was marketablity of that particular collection. Kara's was the best, maybe that confused them?
Jeffery's collection was wearable, although a little disjointed. I think it was the showstopper (striped gown) that won him the show.
The judges and producers are kind of fickle. It depends as much on the "story" of the designer ,as it does the collection, on who wins.

"We just aren't huge fans of women wearing fedoras because we think any irony or surprise such a look might generate is long in the past."

I suspect Jillian picked the fedora because she felt it matched the style, which I think it did, except for the bit that I hate it over a hood. Not to be ironic, surprising, make a statement (other than that which any fashion piece is supposed to make), whatever. But the cut of that outfit seems very suit-like, which would seem to go with a fedora rather naturally, and so what if it's on a woman?

I loved her collection! I live in the Midwest, and it takes forever for trends to filter down us. I could wear her pieces and not get funny looks from the not-exactly-fashion-forward people who live in this area.

The first three was teriffic, the next three was horrible, the next three was very stylish, and the last three was gorge. She really should replace those 4,5, and 6th look.

And yes, i agree she should have won.

Anyway, anyone know how to get the music of her runway show? The composer is Si*se, if i'm not wrong. I just can't find it.
