Eleven Minutes

Let's take a breather from finale mania and look in on the best designer the show ever had, Jay McCarroll. Specifically, the soon-to-be-released documentary about him, Eleven Minutes.

“Eleven Minutes,” chronicles his year-long journey preparing his first independent runway show for New York’s Fashion Week in Bryant Park and the subsequent selling of his line to stores. The result is an in-depth, painfully raw and humorous exploration of the creative process and the constant conflict of balancing commerce with art, fame with talent, and reality-TV with actual reality.

Click here to watch the trailer.

So far, it's scheduled to be shown at:
- Philadelphia Film Festival, Sat, April 5 @ 7:15 pm, Ritz East 2/Phila PA
- Miami Gay/Lesbian Film Festival, Sat, April 26 @ 4:30 pm, TBA/South Beach FL
- Independent Film Festival Boston, Mon, April 28 @ TBA, TBA/Boston MA
- New Filmmakers New York, Wed, June 25 @ 8:15 pm, Anthology Archives/NYC

Very cool, no?

UPDATE: And right on time, here's Jay with his latest blog entry about the Bryant Park show. As usual, it's hysterical.

Fabulous!

It's been interesting that, no other designer's final collection has ever yet surpassed Jay's final collection. It still stands as the Gold Standard.

This season, it looks like Jillian & Christian might have a chance to at least equal Jay. (We'll see tonight).

But I'm glad to see Jay doing well.

I'm so excited. I find Jay very very inspirational.

I watch 'project jay' every time it comes one.

Jay...if you're reading this...you are so funny and lovable and talented, but of course, you already know that! And so does everyone else! You rock!

Oh Jay. I always thought it was a crime that Bravo screwed him over so royally. I'm glad he's shown and has this movie and all that, he deserves the best<3 I can't wait to see this movie.

Very cool, yes!

He has such a great, refreshing perspective about the whole thing. He really is still the guy to beat for all those who came after him.

Jay's final collection was the first thing I ever saw on Project Runway, and I was hooked from that moment. I agree with TLo that it is the strongest PR collection ever. Jay's home town is not far from mine, so I'm extra proud of him!

Aw, it's not coming here until June! I'll be gone by then... :(

It's nice to see he's doing well. I still think he was one of, if not the most, innovative designers on the show.

i totally agree- jay is THE best so far. plus, his personality is what hooked me on project runway to begin with.
hope this is available on dvd eventually...

I may just take a ride down to South Beach to see it. I also think PR viewers should petition Bravo to hand over the $100K to Jay that they owe him.

I can honestly say the man is a genius. AND he twirls a mean flag.

yes, but . . .

we know he can sew.

but will he?

What the hell does THAT mean?

Awesome! Like many, Jay is my all-time favorite PR designer. My only regret is that I will have to wait until the end of June to see it.

That's spin a mean flag. ;)

Anonymous,

That means that Miss BigAssBelle has no clue what it takes to design, produce AND present a collection, let alone find buyers to buy it and hopefully make some money.

You'd think that a few seasons of Project Runway would teach some people a thing or two about fashion.

You guys are right!! Jay is one of the most talented designers. He just needs to get his shi- together! I miss Jay!

OMG, I would saw off my right arm to see that. Probably not coming to Utah any time soon. :-((((

Bravo, put it on the website!

Agreed. As I recall, Kara Janx had a very strong collection--maybe the next strongest after Jay (though to be fair, I don't remember all the other collections). But as wonderful as some of the other designers & their collections have been, Jay took it to another level. And he's so damn funny -- if only he could get $100 for every outrageous thing he says, he could really finance his business.

Anonymous said...

And also, Jay looks fantastic and that dress is darling.

I'm tired of people saying Jay should get his crap together. He's doing what he does as he does it. Jay's on a life journey like everybody else, and it's unfair to force fabricated timelines on him and declare him a "failure" becuse he didn't live up to external expectations. That's what's really crap.

He'll do it when he does it and the timing will be perfect, for HIM.

Sorry I completely disagree.

I loathe his stuff. I always did. I don't "get" Jay nor do I want to. He has done very little since his season ended except whine, snark, bitch and moan.

All hat, no cattle.

Not coming to the west coast at all? Pooh!

I love Jay, he's still the best.

And accept a position with Camp Beverly Hills

And mount his own show at Bryant Park

And signed a deal with QVC

And accept a teaching position at Philadelphia University

And produce a line of bags.

Just because he's not dancing across your TV screen doesn't mean he's not doing anything. You have no idea what you're talking about.

While I have always loved Jay, I was only absolutely wowed by a few pieces in his Bryant Park collection the first season. (Please don't anyone throw rotten tomatoes at me!!). I would give my right arm or first born for that gorgeous long, quilted coat he did. But I wouldn't give a plug nickel for the cocoon like light blue sweater.
Jay has a fantastic personality and is a constant treat to watch and listen to!!!!

Too bad. I wonder if anyone ever will surpass it.
Maybe the attention & the weight of the show is now such that that won't get the chance to happen.

Wow - that is really wonderful! I am looking forward to the film making its way to the west coast. I'd make a pilgrimage to LA or SF to see it for sure!

As an aside, I still want a Chrysler dress for my very own. That might be the most amazing thing ever produced on PR.

Thanks for the information about this film. I am very interested to see it. TLO, please keep us posted if you hear about more screening dates!

"All hat, no cattle."

I've never heard that before. Is it regional? If so, from where?

Anonymous said...

So, are our lovable hosts interested in finding a pre-show place in Philly where all us PRungay hags can get together to dish, drink and eat before going to the screening? And how can we get tickets?

Any suggestions, boys? I know I'd be interested in it! [and I am SO wearing my KaraJanx dress!]

That film looks fabulous. I desperately hope it'll be available on video -- it's one I want to watch multiple times.

Jay's is the only collection that I just knew would win. It was so clearly a vision that no one else could ever have. And I hadn't even been a big fan of his work except for the Chrysler Building dress. That's how powerful it was. They should just give Jay the $100,000 every other winner got. Harvey and Bob wouldn't even miss it.

I MUST see this. Love me some Jay.

Texans have a phrase "All hat and no cattle." This phrase applies to pretend cowboys that dress and talk the part, pretending to be what they aren't.

I once heard Ann Richards describe her opponent in the Texas Governor's race as All Hat No Cattle. Her opponent was George W. Bush.

Fingers crossed for Jillian. :)

Princess Christian has his collection posted on his website and available for editorial use. I can't imagine he'd have that freedom with it, if he won. >:?

Love Jay's designs and so wish I could buy them. Don't entirely love the Jay persona. But looking forward to the film!

Haha. Robert Tate (one of the producers) commented on my blog about this. I'm super excited. I'm visiting philly soon, but unfortunately on the wrong days. I'll have to wait for a DVD :(

Jaysus is my homeboy. If it were up to me, every finale collecting would be measured against Jay's collection. Jay wins every time.....so far.

Hmmmm....its a 3 hour drive to Miami....

*Really* looking forward to this! Two questions:

1. I found the film festival website but still can't figure out how to buy tix. http://www.phillyfests.com/festivals.cfm

2. Does anyone know how long the film is? Website doesn't say.

Thanks!

Those back stage black/white photos on Christian's website are excellent. They look much better than others I have seen of his collection. His jackets look better with the light color pants, too. Bravo should hire that photographer.

Don't know if that link will work, and I can't access the first page of the article, but on this page, Christian talks about how they didn't show his family:

Do you have any qualms with how you're edited and portrayed on the show ?

No. I mean, sometimes they show a lot of me being sassy and they don't show me helping people. And they didn't show my family [on the Feb. 27 home-visits episode]!

And thanks, Sage, for the "all hat no cattle" explanation. Love the Ann Richards ref!

Loved Jay's blog! Lots of gossip and snark! LOL on Kit drinking him under the table.

But, being the computer dunce I am, I couldn't figure out how to zoom in had to get a magnifier just to read the dang thing. The print was so tiny!

Congratulations, Jay. I truly do wish you well.

Not everyone will agree with, "Let's take a breather from finale mania and look in on the best designer the show ever had, Jay McCarroll." While many of his things were interesting, not everyone thinks of him as "best"--regardless of having won.
