If Laura Bennett were a superhero...

Friday, October 12, 2007 by

...what would she call herself?

Here's the deal: Laura's going to be starring in her very own comic strip on iVillage. The premise of the strip is that Laura will be a superhero that solves women's fashion dilemmas. Thing is, she hasn't come up with a name for herself yet. That's where you all come in.

Come up with a superhero name for Laura Bennett and if she picks yours as the best, she'll send you an autographed copy of the Project Runway Season 3 DVD! We can't guarantee that the winning entry will actually be used by iVillage, but at least you'll have the comfort of knowing that Laura liked yours best.

Post your answers in the comment section and leave some sort of name (doesn't have to be your full name) so we won't be stuck saying "CONGRATULATIONS, ANONYMOUS AT 10:57 AM!!!" We'll announce the winner on Monday or Tuesday. Get cracking, ladies! Post as many suggestions as you want!

Good goddess, there's a whole universe of names here.

My vote goes to The Beaded Avenger.

Holy Post-Gasm, Batman!

A girl doesn't log in for 8 hours and the number triples!

I don't have a suggestion, other than I hope La Laura chooses something from Brett - You GO Brett! Any kid that spends time at a Football Game trying to come up with a Super Hero name for a Fashion Designer, well, you get MY vote!

it's 6:04 a.m. my time... some asshole threw rocks at my window and when i went to see who, he ran away... so now I'm up and a bit frazzled over that first rock at my wall...

so, superhero names, shall we? Thank you so much limabean (although I didn't out myself, I've been out since my 17th birthday (4/22)) and profp (high school football games are boring, but I'm in student council, so it's required of me) for your support. :D Loving it!

"Aphrohottie" - could be derived as an African-American hot bitch, but alas, remember Greek mythology and that Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty.

"Venus, The A-List Judge" - provides commentary with Joan Rivers on the red carpet. Everytime I think red carpet, it takes me back to Rinko Kikuchi (you know the Babel Japanese actress) and her dress with those... balls on it.

"Flaming Sniper" - She confidently sits on a throne in the middle of NYC as fashion hopefuls walk by. When the unfortunately dressed dare walk near her, she shoots an arrow of flame at them and burns their clothing off. She then throws an LV luggage case at them filled with gorgeous clothes. She sighs, "there's hope for you... ugly betch."

It's an oldie, and isn't extremely glamorous (except that the name it is the name of an extrememly glamorous woman), but for some reason, "Bennettron" is stuck in my head. Her secret weapon could be a ray gun of style and fabulosity.

It's the point where Laura says, "Christ, not this guy again!" I can't help myself! I pick ill-conceived superhero pseudonyms over AP English Literature homework. Maybe if Jane Eyre were entitled Laura Bennett, I'd change my tune... although every time I think Jane Eyre when I'm reading, Austin Scarlett always comes up when I try to picture her. I don't know why!

Anyways, on to names.

"Titi Tape Titan" - (TTT) I couldn't resist from the season three blogs.

"Sleeved Sophistication" - To honor the perfect black dress that she is selling on QVC, women Laura's age love arm coverage just as Laura said. So perhaps it's more of a superhero helping middle-aged women. I equate Laura with Kate Walsh from Grey's Anatomy when I think of sexy middle-aged women (and red-heads).

"Dr. Laura" - this one makes me laugh because her villain can be... Dr. Laura from her insane gay-hating radio show who she can kill and take on her name and change the image of Lauras to a good one.

Hmmm...this took me a little while to think of something good.

Because of her attention to detail and the epitomy of glamour and good taste, how about...

THE SILK SIREN. Calling out when fashion is really bad, and needing good fabrics and style. ;-)

Ok so who is the winner???

Anonymous said...

Wyndia - which is a medieval name that creates the urge to be creative and original, has made you a hard worker with a meticulous sense of detail. You have a great deal of patience and independence, and you can be relied upon to complete your undertakings.

you could always add Lady or Madame in front of it

Playing off someone else's (Brett's?) suggestion, just "The Siren" would be great.

Speaks to Laura's vamp appeal + the call of "a siren" going off to signal a fashion disaster in need of a superhero intervention.

I think all the good names are taken, but I must say...

even though she's going to be a superhero, they better draw her to look like a villain. Everyone knows the villains have the best and most glamorously and shamelessly ostentatious outfits.

and please call yourself either Mommy Dearest, Bad Mommy, or the Scarlet Avenger (cheesy, yet still fierce)
