Jaysus was way too hard on himself. We loved this. The logo, the way he used the lace, the belt, the masterful skirt - it all looked like old done new, which, since that was pretty much exactly the idea behind the collection, made him a contender for the win as far as we're concerned.

He kept characterizing this as a Holly Hobbie look but it's way more sophisticated than that. He has a gorgeous sense of how to do deconstruction, which made him perfectly suited for the challenge.

Loved the idea of the mood patch.

In fact, he was one of the few designers who actually followed the dictates of the collection. This is earthy, deconstructed and futuristic-looking. Exactly what it was supposed to be. It's something of a testament to how off-course the team was when one of the few people who was doing exactly what they were supposed to was the one freaking out and questioning himself the most.

It was actually my favorite. Julia looked great!

In my opinion, it should've been the winner. It was very creative and different. I love the patch thingie on the back.

Great outfit! Jay did a great job. I just didn't like the way Julia walked.

When I saw Jay's outfit I thought Pris - the character from Blade Runner played by Daryl Hannah - would so wear that and look fabulous.

Yup. Perfect.

I like everything except those pants or whatever that shiny thing is. I hate dresses over pants.

I thought this outfit was gorgeous and very Jay.

I agree, she's not a good walker. I absolutely loved this outfit. I also loved how Jay described the look: "This is like the 3 AM girl." Ha!

I love how he placed the logo. It looks like it's part of the design. Jay is so fucking talented!

This is one of my favorite designs by Jay. I love Jay - his personality, his style.

I loved Jay's dress this week, it was one of the best imo and it should've won!

I LOVED this outfit!! So far Jay has shown the most creative diversity. He has met all the challenges, his designs always reflect his own personal style and yet he has not been criticized the way others have been.

I love Jay!! His comments really make the show. He is hilarious.

I totally agree. He is good with some really snarky comebacks.

I love the way Julia walks. She's slumpy. She walks like a real person -- a sexy, sexy person -- instead of a windup robot. The girl is at least six inches taller than she lets on.

i am amazed at how i adore jay after watching season 1. had i never done this, i'd still have held an opinion of him that was less than stellar. in fact, i was a whole bigass bitch and thought he was an arrogant twit and a creep and now i love him.

same thing happened to me with laura and with malan. this should tell me something, at my ever-advancing age, and it does. but it's really odd ~ and pretty cool ~ to be getting life lessons from something as seemingly frivolous as project runway.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this ...
I can say that Jay has not made anything yet that I thought was a bomb.

I just love Jay and wish his stuff was readily available now.

"Jay McCarroll for Target" LOL.

Hey- it worked for Rafe! I had to go back to Target six friggin' times to get that damn Doctor bag!

Jay was not only talented but perfect for television. Aside from Laura Bennett, there has never been any contestant like him. You pretty much look at a piece and you can tell that it was designed by Jay.

I agree with Steve. Julia walked like a real person and still managed to look sexy. I hate when models march down the runway as if they were ready to invade and plunder a small country.

Is it me, or does Julia look like Suzanne Summers in that last picture?

This outfit showed, again, his ability to take his own hook (quilting) and apply it to the task at hand, in a unique way.

Even though there are other designers I have liked more, no one else in all the seasons, has had this ability.

Unfortunately for him, he hasn't yet been able to parlay this exposure into anything successful in the professional realm - but that seems to be about his behavior since, more than anything else: Because you look at this out fit, as well as any number of others, and you have to think- why isn't this guy designing a successful line for juniors that is in stores across the country?

It could just be that he is much like Michael (from S3), he excelled in the structure of the competition and the constant feedback, but on his own he flounders.

This outfit was out of this world awesome. I liked the choice of colors, the stripes, the patch idea...everything!

I loved the dress, but I hated the way the styled Julia's hair.

Anonymous said...

In my opinion, the best outfit.

Great mix of innovation and good design. Not only Jay managed to stay focused and work within the team's goals, he also managed to make something unique and true to his style.

gotham, not really sure why you lump Jay in with Michael. Jay had a gorgeous show this year at Bryant Park. If you watched Project Jay you would know that he not only had back surgery, but he purposely decided to take it slow and not get blown off course by his sudden celebrity. He also has taken a stand about fur. He is a wonderful human, and he is working his career in his own way. I'm sure designing for Target is really not where he's planning to go.

Jay we love you!

I liked this look better than Kara Saun's, and I have to say, I prefer Jay to Kara Saun across the board.

He really should have won this challenge, but I think since Kara Saun pretty much thought out and wrote "the script" they were using to defend the collection, and Jay voiced doubt about having to learn it, maybe that had something to do with it.

I have to go with that explanation because I thought his was better in my own mind.

I thought Jay's was better than Kara's. Her coat was very dramatic but Jay's is more interesting and less costumey.
