We're Sad! We Missed Malan's Show!

Tuesday, September 12, 2006 by
Tears were shed at ChezPRGay yesterday. We were invited to Malan Breton from Taiwan's show yesterday and an unfortunate combination of mishaps and sheduling issues prevented us from making it in time.

We were doubly sad when we saw the pictures this morning. We would have loved to post our own at-the-show pics, but you'll all have to make do with these gorgeous shots we found this morning. PRGay favorites Amanda, Clarissa, Marilinda, and Nazri look spectacular.

Congratulations, Darling. The show looked FABULOUS.

Now excuse us while we compose ourselves.

Did Amanda bleach her *gorgeous* red locks?!? Say it isn't so!!

His collection looks great. Wish I could see it all!

It looks great especially that last chiffon gown.

I was sorry to see Malan go so fast but he took it like a man and didn't whine or make excuses about his dress. Glad to see he got to Bryant Park anyway!

Wowwee Powwee! I'm sooooo sorry Malan's one misstep got him booted so early. He would have been giving everyone a run for their money. Great-looking stuff. I hope his mother was there!

I have to tell you, Malan was not among the ones I wanted to see last, based only on his attitude in the first episode ("I am used to better material ..." or whatever he said); he came across as a bit of a snot.

However, in the second episode, he became very endearing and it is clear to me that's the moment Vincent should have left. Actually Vincent should have left in the first episode. Or better yet, not been invited at all.

But, I digress!

Malan's collection looks amazing. I would love to see more! It's class with a bit of flair. It's very cohesive. He's got a defined look.

Congratulations Malan, if you reading this blog. You are a great designer. YOU'VE MADE IT!!!!

This from Malan's blog before his runway show:
"This season I pay homage to one of the greatest performers that ever lived. Wait and see who it is! Let’s just say she was an American that took to the French theatre and reinvented beauty in the early 1900's Follies. Any ideas?"

Living well is indeed the best revenge. I think our Malan has some fine living in his future and some nay sayers will be eating crow.

P.S. JJ ,I told you so.

Fabulous! Love it! I think the mishaps you encountered getting to Malan's show are just part of the journey of GETTING YOU TWO IN TO THE TENTS AT BRYANT PARK for the finale. That's my take. So there. (tongue)

The show looks wonderful! I'm so happy for Malan (but sad for you boys for missing the show).

I thought Malan's aufing was just wrong, wrong, wrong. Yes, I know the dress had more than a few missteps, but it was clear that he had so much talent. And he was just so charming.

The final of that episode came down to Malan and Angela, right? Ha. I would SO much rather have seen Malan's take on an icon, a jetsetter, etc.

But, hey, getting the auf early on doesn't seem to have hurt him in the long run (although I think it did hurt PR).

Continued success, Malan!

Sniff, sniff, I'm so sad for you! Malan's collection looks fabulous - I would have liked to see more of him on PR! The dress he made for Miss USA was very unfortunate but he took his auf-ing like a true gentleman.

From the clues Malan gave, the clothes and hair I would guess the amazing Josephine Baker.

The collection looks fabulous. I am very happy for him. As long as I don't have to hear that laugh.

Malan! Wow. He pulled it off.

And someone finally did the Bjork dress right! Lots of feathers, no beak.

My lasting thought on Malan is that he would be a great villain
in the next Austin Powers movie. He's just got that great Euro-sneer going on.

I love, love, love Malan!

His collection looks great...I just wish we had more of him on Runway. He would have been entertaining and perhaps a great little villan. Oh well.

I certainly hope Amanda did not bleach out her hair. There are so few natural redheads walking the runway, and with as much ability as she has.
Amanda: If you can hear me, loose your run-of-the-mill blonde and go back to your wonderful red hair.
Malan's collection is wonderful, colorful and spirited. Vincent should have been "Auf'd" (several times) and not Malan.

I vaguely remember Amanda saying that she was a natural brunette in the Iconic Statement episode - the scene in the sewing room. Am I imagining that?

See now i wish he had gone further!!! What a pitty he had to leave on account of that horrid tree-trunk dress.

Gorgeous!

I am sorry to dissapoint you all, but I was never a natural red head!!

You looked amazing, Amanda, and I do like your new hair color.

You're one of my favorite models on the show.:-)

So do you think Amanda's modeling in Malan's show means she's not in a show by Kayne, thus Kayne is AUF?

Am I imagining things -delusional being one of my frequent states, but is that Marilinda in the white chiffon with Malan?

Beautiful, classy collection! Wish I had somewhere to wear stuff like that... and the body to carry it off!

Totally fucking gorgeous. I would weep tears of pride and joy if this man were my son.

Looks like Malan put on quite a show. His talent was definitely evident and "our" models looked incredible. But, let's face it: PR is not about finding the most talented designer as it is finding the "best" under some very trying circumstances -- time constraints being the most critical. (Haute couture in 2 days? Come on!)Imagine if the designers had a week to perform each challenge. Although the designs would be better, much of the drama would be gone -- and the production costs would be astronomical. (Not to mention that we'd all be in therapy trying to get our minds cleared of fleurchons.) It may seem unfair when a talented individual is auf'ed too soon but, at the very least, he/she will get some much needed exposure. In that sense, there are no real losers here.

And, again, thanks Guys for sharing Malan's show with us. You're the best.

Right on, Lisette, I thought it looked like Marilinda, too.

I wonder if Malan's Mommie Dearest was at the show...maybe she was too busy addressing the board of directors at Pepsi-Co.

That black sheath with the red cape is to fucking die for!

Malan, you rock!

My guess is that the models can work several shows during that week, so it wouldn't be an issue for the PR finalists.

Malan's show was fabulous and very exciting. I was sitting in the second row behind Diana Eng, scross from Emmett McCarthy and Nina Garcia and down the way from Chlow Dao. The place was abuzz!

The clothes were very lush and romantic, colors were champagne, ecru, sepia and noir. apart from that one blast of magenta.

Moon led off (and I got to meet her lovely, proud parents.)And yes, Maralinda was there as well as Nazri and Amanda.

I got to meet and pose with Malan and Chloe and to meet and snap a pic of Angela who was taller than I expected. Everyone was gracious and friendly.

I was lucky to have the opportunity to sew three garments for Malan. (One was edited out of the show.) As a reward, an invitation and acknowledgement in the program.

All in all, from stitching silk, ripping my hair out in frustration, and the show, a worthwhile experience.

PS
I meant to add that Malan's show was NOT in Bryant Park but in the Style Lounge where Daniel Franco also showed that day. (Saw him but he looked busy.)

And I will quote from Malan's program:
"Mistinguett, The Folies Berger, Maurice Chevalier, Josephine Baker, Zizi Jeanmaire, Glamour, femininity, the dance, the music, silent images of joy, Erte, Folie Folie!!, Yvonne Printemps, spectacle, this is the inspriation for Spring 2007."

Makes me wish more than ever that he had lasted at least till the couture in Paris challenge, n'cest pas?

I'm really impressed with his stuff. What a great turn around from the last garment we saw from him. Very impressive stuff. Bravo Malan!

It's so obvious Malan loves the female form. His designs are gorgeOUSSSS.

He made up for that tree trunk design in spades.

I love Amanda's comments, BTW. You go, girl!

Malan is a great designer. He left the show far too soon. If he hadn't been eliminated for that pageant gown, I really think he could've made it to the top three; at least in the top five.

Jackie -- I'm almost certain that you're right about Danyelle. I'm so glad to see her! She's adorable. *sniff* It's like running into an old friend...

It's possible I watch too much "reality" television.

I'm so happy for Malan. I got inexplicably attached to him in the very short time he was with PR -- obviously highly eccentric and apparently quite arrogant, but in an oddly disarming way. I loved his accent too, authentic or otherwise.

So, good for him! His designs look gorgeous.

When he was first introduced and sneered at everyone, I was immediately dismissive. Then he told the story about his mother's reaction to his design and the heart went to mush. Unlike Jeffrey, whose angry nastiness is indicative of his own doubt, fear and self hatred (he obviously has not been successful in AA); Malan is a man still protecting himself through many affectations and attitudes from the cruelest of cut of all-- a mother's rejection. Thank you, Malan, for persevering and enduring by expressing and exhalting beauty. Your collection exemplifies said.

beautiful.

thank you.

Just an observation - does anyone else think Nazri looks ill? She looked like someone gave her a shiner in the episode after Fashion Icon (not good at numbering) and in Malan's show, she definitely has some eye baggage. (This is not a snarky comment, just one out of concern.)

PS - great blog. I'll have withdrawal when S3 is over.

About Nazri, She is a fond friend of mine, as far as I have known her, she's had bags under her eyes, it's just a natural thing, not about how tired her is, or sick or anything, it's just natural. A lot of Etiopians have a lot of mixed north african heritage (Myself also being of North African Descent, I also have puffy bags under my eyes, but I still do well as a model in the City!) Don't worry about Nazri, she's one of the smartest, most genuine people that you could ever meet, and very safe.
