Jillian and Rami

Show of hands. Did anyone remember this outfit? They shoved all the well made outfits off the runway so fast that we completely forgot about it.

We've seen the previews. We know the bitchiness is coming, but dammit, we have to admit, she's talented. Possibly REALLY talented.

Besides, the "1930s showgirl" drag is growing on us a little.

This is an astonishingly accomplished and finished look. Four pieces and not an execution or finishing problem to be found anywhere.

Holy shit, are those the wrong shoes or what?

Seriously, look at that.

Shirt fabric's ugly, though.

The more we look at the other designs, the more the final decision of the judges smells like bullshit to us. This is a perfectly executed look that only needed a little color and a better fabric choice for the shirt.

And the more we look at that model, the more we want to see him naked.

This, on the other hand, we have problems with.

He probably should have laid off the uber-bitchy "I draped my own pants" taunting and put his energy into doing something with a little more style and pop to it.

Not that we minded the ass shot.

Don't get us wrong, this is also an impressively finished outfit. It's just that it lacks any style. You ask us, this was the Member's Only jacket in the group. To be fair, Lorenzo detects a bit of a Hugo Boss influence.

Kudos need to be paid for choosing to do sportswear instead of something more formal-looking, although it really doesn't look like something Tiki Barber would wear, let alone on the Today Show.

The problem is, he looks like a senior citizen in this outfit. Plus, where's the color Tiki asked for?

I really liked Jillian's outfit. It definitely should have been a contender for the win.

Rami's outfit looked like he was asked to design for Chester the Molester.

I don't know why Jillian was completely ignored by the judges. I could see Tiki wearing this suit and I see no fit, pattern making or sewing mistakes. I am astounded that she found the time to complete this. She is very talented and quick!
Rami's outfit is also technically acccomplished, but it looks like what my dad used to wear to the steel mill. He should have accessorised with a black metal lunch box.

I have to add- I love the flapper/show girl look on Jillian. I am thinking she played the fool (on her audition video )to get on the show, so far she seems low key and completely professional.

Anonymous said...

See, lots of people had no trouble coming up with an outfit with a point of view that actually fit the model. Why those 3 made the top, I will never understand.

Still, JIllian's looks '70's to me (imagine it in lime green) and Rami's is kinda Brat Pack. What the Brat Pack would wear now, if they were still alive.

Thank god someone else noticed how /elderly/ Rami's outfit looked. My estranged father actually had that jacket- 20 years ago. I remember him wearing it when he came home from the paper mills of Mobile. Nottt entirely sure that Mill Worker is a look Tiki was looking for.

yes -- thanks for closeup. even on "rate the runway," you couldn't really see how impressive the details of jillian's outfit were.

completely with you, boys, on shirt fabric and the god-awful bucks on his feet.

Wow, I totally missed Jillian's outfit. That shirt is HORRENDOUS, but the suit looks masterful compared to all the other bs we had to sit through. Thanks, guys.
I rely on you more this season since they jerked us around with itunes and the podcasts.

i think the shirt could have worked much, much better if it had a self-fabric collar instead of a white one.

I too am amazed that Jillian was able to turn out 4 complete, well-made pieces when so many others had trouble even turning out 2 that were well-crafted.

I didn't get why Rami was safe and Carmen wasn't. His look was totally Members Only/let's head over to the clubhouse for bingo night and he said it was young looking. Only if you're 105 years old. I guess finished counted a lot more with the judges than design because otherwise Rami should have been in the bottom 3 and Sweet P should have been aufed instead of Carmen.

He also said that his toga dress was "innovative." I think he's the Daniel V. of S4; he can't do no wrong.

Wow, where was I when Jillian's suit went down the runway? I must have blinked, because I have seen it twice now and didn't notice. And I should have because that is a great suit. I agree that the shirt isn't fantastic, but the fact that she could make a suit like that in a day and a half (well, probably not even 36 hours with sleeping and all the other stuff they do during production. WOW!!!

Anonymous said...

Seriously. this is pissing me off. And not having Tim's take is making it even worse. I demand an explanation Bravo! Or else...or else...I shall continue to complain!

Anonymous said...

I loved Jillian's outfit, and agree that it should've been in the top 3; but in the end, it was the GUEST JUDGE, not the producers or the judges that got to decide who won. the whole "the producers are trying to make this dramtic on purpose!!!!!!11" concept just reeks of conspiracy theory to me. Theres not really much drama going on right now in the show, so the viewers are making it up themselves. great

Anonymous said...

While I wasn't overly overwhelmed by Jillian's outfit, I thought she would be a contender for the win. I think when Tiki said he liked to look of an interesting texture, he actually should have used pattern and Jillian's shirt was the most interesting pattern. And with it just peeking out like it did, it wouldn't have that awful headache indusing look/eyeball stressing that Jack's stripes had on TV.

BTW has anyone else emailed Bravo and gotten any sort of a response on the lack of Tim's Take? I only got an automated response. I think they want us to get use to less Tim and this is reflected in the editting as well as the lack of Tim's Take. Maybe T&L can teach Tim how to do his own blog?

(Looking forward to the review of Chris, my favourite this last week)

Wow. I must have blinked when Jillian's came down the runway.

Rami's has a certain look of "The car's warming up dear: do we need anything else besides one more can of cranberry sauce?" about it.

Mom said...

Totally agree, fashionfanatic -- Rami may well be the Daniel V of this season! (although can I just say how hilarious Rami's prissy-pants bitchiness was on this episode?) The outfit was a total snooze.

Not feeling the Jillian love yet because I still haven't forgotten that horrendous audition video. But I've done a 180 on Elisa, so who knows? I would love to have my mind changed again.

Anonymous said...

Well, here's why I think Jillian didn't get the nod -- it's obviously a Ralph Lauren suit (where she worked) with a Tommy Bahama shirt that doesn't really work with it. And the styling is crap. Her skills are undeniable though, and so far she's played well with other designers. I think the USO stuff could have been a ploy to get on the show.

Rami -- yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I said exactly the same thing -- it's a freaking Members' Only jacket. At best, it looks like something Tiki could wear while doing the Perry Como Christmas special. Yuck. However, unlike Carmen's effort, it actually looks well-made. But old.

Anonymous said...

Rami's model looks like one of the West Side Story kids, doesn't he?

Anonymous said...

I liked Jillian's look the second I saw it on the runway. It looked very polished and looked great on the model. I do agree that the shirt didn't quite work. I don't think the problem was the fabric, but the collar. The white and the way it was styled was too leisure suit like... I think that's why she didn't make top 3... it was her styling choice on the shirt.

I didn't hate Rami's jacket. It's way too fitted to be that old. The color choice, I agree, is old seeming. But I think with some adjustments, it could look more youthful.

Anonymous said...

Just realized I was unclear -- I think the perception might have been that Jillian's suit was not really "original" as much as a copy of one of the Ralph Lauren designs, which she would, of course, be familiar with.

Anonymous said...

yeah, i grew up next to a horse track. all rami's outfit needs for styling is a houndstooth check cap and a racing form sticking out of the pocket. and a big cheap cigar.

@neIs Rami a Real American? For some reason, I'm thinking Israeli but don't remember the clue about him that made me go in that direction.

Looking at this outfit I thought to myself that who-ever made it had no idea what the Today show is, who Tiki Barbar is, or what an ex-football star-turned broadcaster typically wears.

This is just so inappropriate for what the challenge was, and it seems to me that maybe the reason is that sometimes Rami is flying blind regarding expectatins.

It might also account for perceived bitchiness because he might not understand American mores of fair play and whining not being "cool".

I just rewatched the first episode and Rami mentions that he was born in Israel. I don't see what difference that makes, tho. I think he's been here for a while - and must have watched some TV.
At least his outfit didn't follow the 3-piece-boringass-suit mold of so many of the others.

Jillian has been the biggest surprise so far this season. Because of that audition tape, I've been expecting her to bring the crazy, but so far she's been the exact opposite.

It was pretty amazing that she did 4 well made pieces, when the others had problems. But also, she's been pretty invisible in the show, so maybe she just had her nose to the grindstone while the others were creating drama.

That suit went by so fast, I thought it was a paisley shirt, which I loved. But seeing the still pictures, not so much. I would have loved a paisley print (the perfect small dose) in the red/purple family. That would have been perfect. But still, how could they have ignored it?

As for Rami, elderly is the operative word for that jacket. It looked like something you'd see on line at some 4PM 'all you can eat' buffet in Boca Raton.

The thing about Rami though, is he can be very charming. He reminds me, a bit, of Robert from season 1. He's got that charm, and he knows it, and he knows how to use it.

Jillian's might have garnered more attention if she'd added a pocket square and used better shoes. He looked like he was an elf in a business suit with those shoes.

I thought Jillian's and Chris' outfits were very well-made, but we hardly got to see them at all.

My father-in-law, who is 80 years old and plays golf frequently, has an outfit like the one Rami designed. Yawnsville.

rami's wasn't too bad. i like the pattern he made for the jacket. and it did fit nicely. if it had been in another color, it would have been more successful. but the beige is too boring. and the pants look like they need to be hemmed a touch.

Rami charming? What???? Are we watchimng same show??

Robert from season 1 was a DOLL. Sweet, sexy, charming, and TOTALLY unaffected.

Rami is an eye-rolling, side-glancing, pompous, arrogant, ass-hat. He needs some serious humbling.

He reminds me of Santino, who won the first challenge in Season 2, then spent theentire season wondering why he didn't ALWAYS win.

Well, at least he has no tatoos.

Gotta say, Rami's got technical skills, but he doesn't do much with them. He's not bringing it enough with the design (or the hotness) for me to forgive his bitchiness.

I wish we could've seen a little of the judging for the safe looks. I wonder what Tiki thought of Jillian's? I wonder if Heidi threw out the "It looks like something David Bekham would wear" "insult"?

My dad always looked great in that Rami jacket style, so I can't harsh on it too much except that it hangs a little odd. I think that's probably fault of the design rather than the fit or maybe the model should've avoided putting his hands in the pockets.

I absolutely hate the way the "magical elves" use the strobe effect on the runway. All you see are flashes of the models as they walk. It's difficult enough to see the designs with the shitty lighting they provide. GRRR!

That being said, Jillian should have been a contender this week. As for Rami, the look was far too pedestrian for me. I think there's an early bird special with that guy's name on it somewhere in West Palm Beach.

Plus, where's the color Tiki asked for?

On the cutting room floor! Don't you wish Kevin and a couple of others had realized it in time?

Since Tiki completely ignored or shot down anything with a hint of color, I think Jillian and Rami made the right choice.

I think Jillian should have won. Tiki looked ridiculous on the Today Show in a shirt and pants, without even a tie or belt to pull the look together. I really don't understand what happened here, and I don't think the designers that did the best work got *nearly* the credit they deserved.

Anne

Seth said...

I totally agree with you guys on this one. Jillian's outfit was very nice, if it had not been for that shitty fabric on the shirt, she could have won. The tailoring was very nice. I don't know why this wasn't in the top.

As for Ms Rami and her Miami Beach Jew outfit, it was atrocious. Like something a 90 year old man would wear. She should have styled it with white patent leather shoes and belt and the look would have been complete. She is just too damned cocky to be such a medicocre designer. I really don't like her. Plus her head is shaped weird, am I the only one who sees his head shape and thinks, whaaa?

Honestly, the judging on this challenge was wacky. I don't know if Ms Tiki had anything to do with it or not, but I think the judges sold their souls on this one.

He did have on a belt on the show. Which proves that the outfit was totally redone because it had belt loops that weren't there before.

I also don't get it how Jillian wasn't on the top 3. Jack didn't have 3 pieces. That enough should disqualify him for the T3 position.

Seth said...

No, Ms Tiki did not look good on the Today show. Even with the additon of the belt, the ensemble was sorely lacking. You would think he would have at least put on a tie. He should have put on a tie and added a jacket to it.

Although, I do like Jack and did like his outfit, he should not have won this challenge because there were much better clothes. Jillians was great except for the shirt and I really liked Stevens except for the ascot.

Anne said...

I just thought of something else.

Tiki is *such* a totally different shape from any of those models. He's short, they're tall. He's muscular, they're willowy. He has a giant butt, the less said the better.

So, I don't sew or anything, but I'm just wondering - if the designers had made something that would look great on Tiki, wouldn't it have bagged in the rear on the models, been the wrong shape in the shirt, etc?

Or was this all just a giant masturbatory exercise to make something that theoretically Tiki would wear if it looked good enough on the model to get his attention but was also totally reworked to fit him?

The more I think about this challenge, the more I think I'm just not fashion-savvy enough to understand what the point was.
