Catfight!

Jay McCarroll lets loose with both barrels at Tim Gunn:

"He’s having his heyday, but I also don’t think he’s an authority on any designer’s life. He went to school for sculpture or something. I don’t think that he’s ever, to my knowledge, started a fashion line and therefore should not be the adviser or the fuckin’ creative director … how dare you pretend to know what I should be doing with my company?"

EDITED TO ADD: You bitches got us our first mention in New York Magazine!

"Project Rungay's commenters have their designer undies in a bunch over Jay McCarroll's tongue lashing of Tim Gunn."

Jay darling, thank you for shooting your mouth off and commenters, thank you for getting your undies in a bunch. Mwah! We love you all!

WOW... although, he's kind of have a point...

So that rifle on the front porch gesture wasn't really a gesture!

The damn article from the link doesn't download for me so I have no idea what the whole story was except for what you've quoted, but I picture Tim smiling and saying, "Oh that's just Jay!"

I look forward to years of fabulous quotes from Jay!

BrianB

Jay still is blissful in his ignorance. I chalk it up to a mixture of inexperience, insecurity-masquerading-as-cockiness, and a dash of plain old cattiness. When he's got a few more years under his belt, he'll know more about what it is to have several careers over a lifetime, each one informing the next but perhaps not being completely linear in their progression.

Jay, just shut the fuck up once in a while, OK? Your words will come back to bite you in the ass at some point.

Oh no....oh no....I knew something like this was going to happen. Tim's probably gonna dish real soon.

Maybe when Jay has more than a few years in the big world of fashion will his opinion even matter. Maybe he'll experience true success then he'll be better able to understand Tim's experience, God given talent, class, and SUCCESS!

OH. MY. GOD. This bitch is crazy. Well darling, now middle America wants to kill you. I still love you girl - you're crazy - but I still love you.

Wow....I wonder if Tim said PUBLICLY that Jay was an embarassment or was it a rumor Jay heard?

Jealous, much? It seems Jay is all pouty that no one wants to talk to Mr. I Won anymore and instead prefers Mr. Deboinaire.

Let's see...Jay isn't showing at Fashion week although he is still considered the most talented PR alum after 3 years. His production deal fell through for his spring 07 line and he has finally worked something out with Urban Outfitters, but they are not promoting his release (c'mon, NO ONE has heard that UO is releasing his clothes next month, have they? I would've been all over that, and I've never set foot into an UO store). So, what's a guy to do?

B!tch about Tim Gunn in the press during fashion week! Congratulations, Jay. You got your press.

Sad thing is, I'll still be looking for his stuff at UO. I don't like his attitude, but I love his clothes, and the fact that they'll be at UO has me salivating because I may actually be able to *afford* them.

What the ever-loving FUCK is he thinking? Seriously!

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

I'm becoming less and less charmed by Miss Queen Bitch McCarroll.

Anne

Follow up:

I just checked out jay mccarroll's website--it hasn't been updated in months and it still says nothing about the UO deal. There's nothing on UO's site about Jay McCarroll.

Major bitterness there, I'll bet. Especially now that Tim's taste has been recognized as good enough to be a creative officer to as big a company as Liz Claiborne.

To clarify Suzanne, Tim has never dissed Jay's fashions, but he has been very vocal for all the PR alums that they need to capitalize on their fame ASAP. After the PR2 season finale, he was particularly pointed that Jay must get another show out there.

I think Tim tried to nudge Jay through the press when talking to him didn't get through, and Jay took it as condemnation.

I think this is the big source of the problem:

From the interview:

Your spring 2007 show was great.
Yeah. I thought it was good. No one fucking said anything.

He's smarting because no one said anything. And is it my imagination or is he dissing UO in that same interview? Doesn't it sound like he's saying, "Basically I'm allowing them to slap my name on some shit for the money." ??

Did anybody else get that?

Anne

And people ask why we haven't seen more from Jay? THIS is why. The personality quirks that make one a good reality show participant/freak does not translate into any other venue.

And it's funny that he comments on Tim not being sufficiently qualified to judge other's fashion lines, well...who is Jay to comment on the fashion sense of potential clients.

LOOK AT THAT PICTURE OF JAY!
He looks like Swifty Lazar joins the Mujahadeen.

Would you take fashion advice from this guy? Mmmmm...nope.

--Gotham Tomato

My favorite part of the interview: "I’m not bitter about the man." Oh yeah, Jay, and it shows.

Fact is, I can see where Jay'd be irritated with a non-designer passing judgment. BUT it sounds like the bulk of that irritation comes from the fact that he knows Tim is right. AND, Tim, designer or not, is absolutely in a position to advise young designers -- wasn't that his life at Parsons?

Jay is his own worst enemy.

Jay is his own worst enemy.

AMEN.

Jay needs to get over himself. Talk about being ungrateful! He should be thankful for his PR experience, and Tim was absolutely right in telling him and the other PR-ers to capitalize on their exposure as soon as possible. Tim has been in his field for decades, he knows what he is talking about (unlike Jay). Jay is becoming a bitchy (not in the good way) diva who expects the world to fall all over him. Well, it's not going to happen. What's with the Boudin desert scarf and the Jackie O glasses??? I agree with Gothamtomato...I would NEVER take fashion advise from Jay (aka Afghani Jackie)...he is a WRECK (a bad one at that).

JP

so incredibly tired of the cult of gunn

You know, I do love Tim, and I love Jay, but Jay has a point here; it has got to seem hurtful to hear Tim say bad things about you publically. (And I remember when he said it was embarrassing for the show that Jay hadn't shown yet). It is of course also true, as others have said, that Jay, making a good point, goes over the top and gets mean in his response. I love Jay's clothes, and I wish he could find a way to be successful--for the sake of my wardrobe, if for nothing else. Good luck to him with Urban Outfitters.

Bitter, bitter bitter.

Generally the person to become a "star" from a reality show is the winner, but the person who ACTUALLY became a star (the real thing) from Project Runway is Tim Gunn. It must be killing Jay, lol.

The thing I adored about Jay when he was on Project Runway was his ability to steer a middle ground (mostly) between Kara Saun and Wendy. He didn't really get caught up in all the sniping or get distracted by the intramural fighting -- or at least it was edited that way.

I remember thinking to myself how smart he was just to keep his mouth shut and do his own thing. Now I'm thinking maybe it *was* editing, because in saying this about Tim Gunn, he's majorly shot himself in the foot.

In his current position AND in his new position AND in his affiliation with Project Runway, Tim could have thrown major business Jay's way. What are the chances of that happening now?

If Jay was smart (again), he'd go to Tim and apologize on bended knee and then BEG to be Tim's intern and learn the fashion world in New York before trying to strike out on his own.

Right now, his best bet is to give up on NY and relocate to Los Angeles, Miami, London or Milan where no one will care what he said about Tim Gunn or that he couldn't make it in New York. Maybe Santini will take him in.

Wow. Bitter much?

It sounds as if Jay got both more and less than he bargained for from PR. It must rankle that he's still going to have to work to make it in the industry. Taking that out on Tim Gunn is just silly.

Wait....so let me get this straight: Tim Gunn can't move from sculpting and fine art into fashion (after working at Parsons and on PR), but Jay move from fashion into performance art or housewares with nothing more than a flutter of his cape?

I love both Tim and Jay, but I think that Jay raises a valid (albeit bitchy) point. If Laura Bennett became a consultant at, oh I don't know, Ann Taylor or someone, it would be a good match, but it's not her forte. She's an architect and so is Tim.

Jay? Jay is just bitter.

"It is better to be a has been then a never was".

Jay is in danger of becoming a "never was".

It does hurt to hear harsh things about your work. But as other contestants have learned, when Tim says harsh things, he's usually dead right. Jay DOES need to work his way into the industry instead of fighting it.

It doesn't matter how great a designer he is; the world is not run by solo geniuses, it's run by people who can work together. Genius is of no value if you can't do that. Fashion is no different than any other creative career.

I do agree with Jay's sentiment, despite how poorly articulated-

if the "Father-type" of PR that helped me through to win, came back and blasted me a year later while I'm trying to get my ducks in a row (which Tim DID do, people) for my career, I would find it very difficult to keep a straight face as well.

Who knows what effect Tim Gunn's dismissal of Jay in the press during PR2 had on the final release of his line?

Outrageous comments like that are the refuge of those lacking in the talent, skill and personality to garner press for their actual accomplishments.

FashionFanatic

The girl does have a point, but that's all I'm saying about it.

Well said, Crow! They need to get together, have a drink, and forget about all this.

Bitch is gonna get stabbed!!

(I kid! I quote, I snark, I do NOT make actual threats or engage in violence!)

STFU, Jay!

He;s such a whiny vindictive catty little bitch.

I lost all respect for him last season. Did you see the clip of Jay in the "bonus videos" on the BRAVO site for the Season 3 REUNION episode?

Jay just sat there and viciously bitched about almost every single contestanst from Season 3. It was obviously very uncomfortable for them to hear Jay - someone they hardly know - rip on them for very personal reasons.

After that, all the Season 3 contestants decided to boycott his show.

Jay treats people like crap, then he wonders why people don;t return his calls and want nothing to do with him.

It's hilarious thatr he's so hysterical about Tim's comments when Jay, himself, is the biggest trash-talker.

If you dish it out, Jaybird, then you better learn to eat some crow too!

Jay is just insanely jealous because Tim Gunn gets more attention and accolades than he does. Tim is on Oprah, Ugly Betty, Entertainment Weekly cover, STYLE network, PEOPLE, everyone wants to talk to Tim and offer his great jobs and opportunities. TIm GUnn is the STAR of Project Runway.

Jay is a bitter pudgy famewhore. He can't stand that Tim upstaged him.

Jay wants to start a "celebrity feud" with Tim because that's the ONLY way people will pay attention to his fugly ass.

"After that, all the Season 3 contestants decided to boycott his show."

How do you know that? It is hard to believe that those Season 3 people could ever all agree to do (or not do) anything together.

--Gotham Tomato

Some posters from TWoP met Angela Keslar at some charity benefit. Angela told them that they were all hurt by Jay's comments about them. You can watch an extended version of it on the Bravo "bonus videos". Jay is really quite vicious. He says something cruel about every single one of them.

Most of them were planning on attending Jay's show, but after they saw Jay's video during the Reunion, they all decided not to attend. I don't blame them.

Just read the actual interview, and the last couple of paragraphs were the equivalent of being introduced on the Jerry Springer show to a chorus of boos and telling everyone, "You don't know me! Shut up!! YOU DON'T KNOW ME!!" before throwing down with your baby's daddy.

LOL. So true. I can just imagine Jay pitching a screaming fit and then running from the stage in hysterics. Very Jerry Springer!

It's true that Tim isn't qualified to CREATE a fashion line because he's never had any training in that area. What he IS qualified to do is to critique one because he has immaculate taste. That's what Liz Claiborne hired him to do and I bet he'll be fabulous at it.

Yes, he's trained in sculpture, but the principals of art and design transcend individual disciplines. A good sculptor will still have an eye for proportion, color and silhouette.

I'm no expert, but I have a hunch that the fashion industry isn't really all that impressed with reality-show designers. People like Jay and Daniel V will still have to prove themselves in other ways before people like Anna Wintour laud their talent.

Well now, do we think Jay could be any more unprofessional?

One small point..it seems to me that Tim has been critical of Jay's actions since Jay won PR1, and rightly so...Jay on the other hand has lashed out at Tim on a more personal level, which is just plain immature. there is a difference between bashing what someone does and who they are.

Jay is doing a good job of committing professional suicide, that's for sure. Maybe he'll fashion a noose from his burnouse and be done with it already.

As for what Jay said about im's qualifications, I totally agree with Chicksinger's comment about career trajectories, too. Personally I don't see why Tim's initial training as an architect should preclude him from branching into other areas of the design world. If anything, his formal training informs his mentoring style, and his experience as a mentor will no doubt inform him in his new role.

Lighten up Jay, grow up, and stop saying *fuck* every other word...makes you look that much less intelligent in comparison to Tim's erudition.

SNF in VA

I understand where Jay is coming from. He does tend to shoot his mouth off and is not as verbally adept as everyone's hero Tim Gunn, but really, once the show was over it was no longer Tim's job to tell Jay how to run his career, especially through the press. That's all he was saying.

Y'all quit picking on Jay! Even you, Tim!

Wow ... remember he has a problem w/ fit and athletic gay men as well. I feel bad that he is THAT insecure w/ himself.

He really needs to let go of his bitchy, catty attitude and he will succeed in this industry. So far ... he hasn't.

and yet he wonders why no one has picked up his line.

gothamT ~ hysterical! He looks like Swifty Lazar joins the Mujahadeen.

jay, jay, jay. the creative world is filled with those who lack proper training. it is, more importantly, filled with those who do and don't just talk about doing.

tim has a special eye and that is a gift no school can provide. who cares about his training when his ability to nurture talent is evident in all aspects of his career.

jay! shut up and sew. you are fabulous and it demeans you to spout bitterness about tim gunn.

The interview was bitchy, but so was Tim's. He brought up Jay just so he could chastise him for not showing at each fashion week. It kind of puts Jay's comments in a different light.

remember he has a problem w/ fit and athletic gay men as well.
I never got the impression that he had a problem with them. He just said that he was ignored or treated like shit by them until he was on PR.

Oh. My. Freaking. Gawd.

Too much exposure, of both of them! Love them both, but I think it's time for Tim and Jay to go radio silent for a few days and let the world wonder....

Well I guess the terrorists have won after all. Who would have thought that a burkha would become a fashion statement in NYC?

Damn those Communifascipinkoliberals!

I don't know, Tim does seem sort of like a sell-out these days.

Ah, the bitterness. It burns. Jay is stewing in it.

Our Divine Tim Gunn is the epitome of class and grace. Like the timeless perfect black cocktail dress. Elegant, refined and always in style.

Jay is the equivalent of a loud tacky yellow bubble skirt. Trashy, gaudy and yesterday's news.

I'm watching our Tim on OPRAH right now. The audience adores him.

Where's Jay? Probably at home seething with rage as he stuffs more Krispy Kremes into his fat ass.

Why does Jay hate Tim so much? Has he been hanging around crazy Vincent?

Tim gave constructive criticism about Jay's design work. Jay retaliates with petty cruel personal attacks. Jay is such a big baby. He needs to grow up or he won't get very far in this business.

LOL. Is that a burkha? Or has Jay decided to become a Muslim woman?

He looks like a big fat bug with those glasses.

I don’t think that he’s ever, to my knowledge, started a fashion line and therefore should not be the adviser or the fuckin’ creative director

MEOWWW!!! Jealousy rears its ugly head. It sounds like Jay wasn't too happy to hear news of Tim's new job. He sounds so bitter and resentful in that interview. And it shows. It looks like Jay has put on weight again.

This is not how a young professional in any field makes it big. In appearance, in language, in business sense - he shows no potential at all. What a mess he is.

Perhaps this was the first showing of his performance art - the act where he pretends he's a retard. He's got that down very, very well

Calling the Shit

Jay, honey, how dare you bring up Tim's degree! What is your degree in? I checked your university and I don't see fashion design listed as a major.

Bitter, party of one, your table is ready.

Yikes! Talk about burning your bridges. No wonder Jay's career is going nowhere. He's so unprofessional! No tact or grace. If Jay had issues with Tim, he should have picked up the phone and talked to him. Instead Jay acts like Paris Hilton by feebly engaging in some tacky celebrity feud by mouthing off to the media during Tim's moment of success. This is such a cheap and trashy ploy.

Even if Tim forgives him, it still looks very bad to other important people in the fashion industry to see Tim attacked like this.

Jay is a nasty bitch. What crawled up his ass? Oh, I guess nobody. That's why he's so bitter. Still can't get a date, huh, Jaybird? Well, trashing Tim Gunn won't help. Insecurity is so unattractive, darhling.

I think Jay is jealous because Tim has become such a fashion icon now. His esteemed career at Parsons, his mentoring and intelligent insight is revered. Tim is sought after and gushed over by key people in the fashion and entertainment industry.

Jay, on the other hand, is clawing to hold onto his waning 15 minutes of reality TV famewhoredom.

but let's be honest:

tim DOES talk a lot of shit about people. On his blog especially.

Tim's critiques have always been fashion-related and about the clothes. He is a teacher and a mentor. Most designers respect his opinion because they understand that his remarks are coming from a place of concern and experience. He wants the designers to do well.

But Jay talks shit about everyone. And his remarks are always very PERSONAL. Jay gets hysterical and attacks people. Look at how he talked shit about Katy Gerdes, Robert Best, Angela, Kayne, Stacy, etc. He insults people because he's mean and petty. That's why the other designers hate his guts when they meet him in person.

Golly. I guess Jay missed that chat with Fern Malis where she admonished people to

BE
NICE

Jay has some interesting designs and ideas, but, frankly you couldn't pay me enough to work with him. If I wanted to hang out with a self-centered, unpleasant, chain-smoking, foulmouthed little boy, I have friends who have young adult children who won't move out and they'd gladly hand any of them over. Thank you, but no.

Catherine

As Oprah just said, Tim Gunn is "the break-out star" of Project Runway. I bet this eats away at Jay. Now Jay is attacking Tim's credentials and his education? Oh, please! That's just so ridiculous. What a silly little man.

There's a reason that Tim is being head-hunted by major design firms. The man has 24 years of fashion experience.

I agree that Jay should heed Fern Malis's advice to "be nice". Nobody wants to work with a vindictive drama queen.

whoa! what was that all about?

Shut up, Jay. Evil toad. His catty queen shtick is so played out.

Jay,
Your gorgeous, innovative clothes speak volumes. Let them. That's all you need. And a little civility (think of those you consider beneath you naked on fire holding pie). Don't prove the naysayers right by using your bad attitude as an excuse not to give you your props (by props I mean money).
Be a real star.
Success is the dish best served cold.
This is from someone w/ a similar experience. It works.

You know, if Jay ever found himself Chief Creative Officer for ANY company, Tim would say, "I'm happy for him. He's an innovative genius and they're lucky to have him."

And what, is that a bottle of wine/liquor in his hand?

Don't forget, Jay, that it was Tim's show and guidance that helped you win, you selfish ungrateful little bastard.

Jesus, what a prick.

I suspect Jay's venom is rooted in his own deep insecurity. He's lashing out at Tim now because he feels inadequate in comparison. Tim has achieved so much success since the show. Jay is struggling and looking to blame others instead of taking stock of his own behavior and attitude. It's easier for Jay to point fingers and trash Tim than make changes to improve himself. It's sad. I hope he grows up before it's too late.

I cannot imagine anyone wanting to hire or work with Jay after witnessing his displays of cattiness and volatile temper.

Jay, honey, how dare you bring up Tim's degree! What is your degree in? I checked your university and I don't see fashion design listed as a major.

Exactly. Jay is talking trash about Tim's education? What a joke. Who is he kidding? Tim's education is impeccable. Jay is just a bitter loud-mouthed queen.

Put your claws back in, honey. You ain't shit next to the divine Tim Gunn.

LaFemmeFataledeNY

Jay, honey, how dare you bring up Tim's degree! What is your degree in? I checked your university and I don't see fashion design listed as a major.

Amen, sister!

Is Tim Gunn gonna hafta choke a bitch? Dayum. Must be Jaybird's time of the month. Somebody needs to slap this bitch silly.

Jay does have a point, but I wish he had expressed it in a more mature way. I work in the fashion industry, and he is right, the pressure is enormous to produce something every season. I don't think Tim helped him with his comments.

Jay looks like a cross between Elton John (during his fat years) and Java the Hut in a burkha.

Jay unleashes his inner "Shetangi". The venomous blob strikes again. What's this catty bitch trying to prove? Bitch is gonna get stabbed. Just goes to show... he's as ugly on the inside as he is on the outside. I hate his tacky muppet clothes anyways.

Eh, this is just Jay's last-dich desperate attempt to remain relevant in popular culture. He knows Tim is a rising star - high profile, much in demand. Tim has just announced a major prestigious job change. Tim has a new book. He's on Ugly Betty and Oprah. Our Tim is the man of the hour.

Jay is attacking Tim and starting a feud to make himself feel important. He has always thrived on negativity and put-downs. That's just the way Jay operates. He is a hateful little man. So pathetic, really. I feel sorry for him. He's just so pitiful.

Am I the only one who finds all the 'anonymous' posts annoying?

I think I'm gonna have to agree with alden V...wow, but he's gotta point.

I love Tim to death but think that outside the Project Runway workroom he should be a bit more diplomatic about talking about past contestants careers.

And let's be real about the whole thing. Tim isn't a judge on the show. He's a host. A great host and an integral part of it's
success but it's the contestants that bring us back week after week.

Tim is the mentor - the educator - who comes in a gives critiques. The constructive criticism.

Heidi is the host.

As a musician who took many a master class in my youth - Jay hasn't really ever been grilled by a truly harsh instructor.

I watch the show for Tim. The contestants change every season, but Tim is the one constant shining star.

Jay is old news. Austin was more interesting anyway. And I loved Santino and Andrae. Robert and Laura were fabulous last season.

More designers keep coming and Jay keeps fading into oblivion. It must be frustrating for him. That's probably why he lashes out at Tim and any of the other contestants.

Check out the picture of Tim with the New York article that is linked to in the McCarroll interview.

Is that a lipstick mark on the right side of Tim's face?!?!! (left side of photo)

Let Jay say what Jay wants to say. He's a human being, and we are divas and we think we're better than everyone...some of us. Go Jay! Go Tim!

Jay is jumping the gun. He hasn't accomplished enough yet to act like a "diva" and get away with it. He's a struggling young designer from reality television. Yet he's already copping a diva attitude and mouthing off like Queen Bitch. Stupid, stupid Jaybird. He's his own worst enemy. And he wonders why all his business deals fall through. In the end, he only has himself to blame for his lagging career.

"I’m not bitter about the man."

Not bitter? If I could appoint only one thing bitter for the rest of my life, THAT would be it. Don't get me wrong, I like Jay. But, I love Tim. I think Jay needs to get over it and stop whining. He owes alot to Tim whether he wants to admit it or not.

Jay needs to deal with the insecurity that makes him so mean-spirited and self destructive. But Jay had a fabulous show last fall; he is the most talented of the PR designers and Tim was not very supportive of him.

Plus Tim could be a little more careful about what he says as well. He's enjoying being everyone's expert but it is dangerous when you start to buy into your own hype.

fyi I'm none too pleased about something TG recently said about women's bodies and size. Again.

"Il est agréable d'être
important,
mais il est plus important
d'être agréable."

Translation?

"It is agreeable to be important, but it is more important to be agreeable."

This comment has been removed by the author.

it's already been said above, but i'll say it again...

i am so sick and tired of people sucking tim gunn's dick! i never understood his appeal...never?!?! i still don't...

jay's more talented in his early thirties than tim gunn will ever be. in an industry full of phony pretentious rich bores, it's refreshing to see someone who doesn't just go along with the pack.

i'll take jay over tim anyday!

I wonder if TIM says the same thing about CHLOE... who won the second season, has an established business, and seemingly NOT doing a whole lot. or is TIM just picking on JAY?

JAY didn't take the prize money or an already established business, and he was able to show last season and have an upcoming showing with UO.

What's CHLOE doing?

Chloe and Emmett both have thriving successful businesses. Chloe just had a show recently too. She is very professional, and like Kara Saun, is doing quite well for herself financially. Malan also has a new store and showed at Fashion Week.

Jay is still living on the couch in his tiny work studio.

Oh, let's not be so harsh on Jay. Tim has said not nice things about Jay too. Now, do we criticize Tim for it? No, we don't. I do agree with Jay that we all have to get over this Tim-can-never-do-wrong attitude.

Jay should do whatever the fuck he wants to do with his life and not worry about Tim.

Tim is a gentleman and has always supported all the participants of the show. He doesn't deserve this.

Love or hate Jay, there's no doubt that he's very talented and has tried to make a name for himself without having to sell his soul in the process. It's not easy. Go, Jaybird!!

I'm so happy for Jay. I can't wait to see his new line for Urban Outfitters. Good on him for taking his time and doing it his own way.

Although I can understand why Jay would get defensive, the point is as Tim said: "Jay always complains." So what if Tim actually gets a step ahead in life? Jay is bitter, despite his non convincing comments that he's not. W/E Jay, I really liked him until now, although knowing his personality he won't be happy even if people do or do not agree with him.

Has anyone seen the episode of Kathy Griffin: My life on the D list, where she runs into Jay? Yikes! Such a vicious anger-ball. Even Kathy was shocked by his hate and contempt.

I read in an article that after Jay was a guest judge on season 2, the designers felt disappointed. They expected this funny charming queen, instead Jay was just this mean-spirited guy. The season 3 designers felt the same way after he trashed them.

I guess Jay is being Jay. He's a bitch.

Jay, honey. My daddy used to say "You can't afford to be yourself until you can afford to be yourself." Jay, take it from me, "You can't afford to be yourself." So stop poking the bear and shut-up before someone blows the whistle and yells "Everyone out of the pool."

I love tim and i love Jay - two very different people. I think Jay feels under pressure because people expect him to turn into Ralph Lauren out of the gate. It is so hard for new/young designers to get started and then to survive, even those with tons of talent. Look what happened to Miguel Adrover. Jay is Jay and people --including Tim--have felt very free to have an opinion on what he should or shouldn't be doing. It must be hard. I wish them both all the best
CP

I am not surprised by any of this. Jay ALWAYS struck me as a vicious, nasty person - very insecure to boot. I never liked him - even from the beginning.

Jay's always trying to be outrageous and shock people. That's just his schtick. Controversial ideas and comments produce drama and promote debate. Doesn't mean he actually feels that way.

Jay was really likeable and fun on the show, but now... the more he speaks the worse the words come out. I'm trying to still like him though.

I mean, he's a great designer and I'll probably run over to UO to buy his stuff once it comes out and even though I sympathize with him on the whole coming-out-with-a-collection thing, he's comes off mean and arrogant.

I think it's unbelievable how people are so quick to jump on Jay's throat just because he's criticized Tim. Tim is not God, you know.

Actually, I think people give Jay the benefit of the doubt or excuse his insults altogether because... he's Jay. If it had been Vincent Libretti saying these things, there would be an uproar. But Jay gets a free pass because he's fat, gay and bitchy. And he looks like a tree stump.

Gawd. Jay needs a good spanking and to be put to bed early. If he would spend half this energy actually DOING something positive like, (here's a shocking idea) designing clothes, then perhaps people would actually care what he thinks as a productive member of the designing community. Diva-ness is earned and you gotta pay the price, baby.

I missed the first season so I've only seen/heard of Jay from interviews and his appearances on the show...but...I'm surprised he's so popular. He comes off like such a catty vicious bitch. He's always so cruel and hostile with his comments. I can see why people are put off by him. I suppose I fail to see his "charm". He's like this angry little toad. Sometimes he's funny, but mostly he's mean.

Personally, I prefer refined gentlemen like Malan Bretan or Austin Scarlett or the caustic wit of Robert Best. And, of course, the divine Tim Gunn.

...But Jay gets a free pass because he's fat, gay and bitchy. And he looks like a tree stump."

For those of you who are attacking his appearance, WTF does that have to do with his comments? Grow up!

Well, I'm not surprised. I've been sorely UNimpressed by Jay since his disgusting behavior on "Project Jay" where he called Heidi Klum a "bitch". He was extremely crude and unprofessional with her. I don't see how he expects to get very far with that kind of attitude. Now it seems he's turned his attacks onto Tim.

*sigh* Jay bites the hand that feeds. Always so bitter and ungrateful.

I've disliked Jay ever since he made fun of Dianna's voice in "Road to the Runway." She looked so confused and hurt.

Oh, yes, that entire fiasco with Jay and Heidi’s Emmy dress was terrible. I do think Jay has talent, but talent isn't enough. That's where the Banana Republic mentorship had its value - they can teach you marketing and the legal issues. How to"make it work” in the business ends, ie., work for the client, be professional, start on time, don't complain in public, and get it finished, etc.

Jay threw a major hissy fit about that Emmy dress. He really badmouthed Heidi in the media after that. He called her a “twat” and a “bitch”, and sniped that unlike her, he had to “think” I recall that he also trashed Zac Posen and other designers. Not cool.

I know Jay’s viciousness is a defense mechanism, but I also can't help but see the glee in his eyes when he inflicts his harsh comments. And it seems hypocritical of Jay to publicly bad mouth Tim and Heidi when he had a go at Vanessa for "being disloyal and unprofessional" when she slagged off the show to the media.

I also love performance art. Like pretending I’m a retard. I know that’s wrong. Like mentally challenged.

Ugh, Jay is repulsive. He thinks pretending to be a "retard" is funny? It's offensive. And nobody uses the word "retard" anymore. Unless you intend to be cruel, which he is, it seems... Mocking the handicapped? Jay is a spiteful malicious person. Always so unncessarily cruel. What an unpleasant man.

Lighten up, people. It's just fashion.

Does anyone know why Jay turned down both the Banana Republic mentorship and the $100,000???

Jay whines and complains a lot about how hard it is for him, but then why not take advantage of the money and the business education? He sounds so bitter and resentful.

It makes me appreciate people like Malan, who took a bad situation and really came out on top. He's doing so well, and the epitome of class and grace under fire.

He looks like Swifty Lazar joins the Mujahadeen.

Would you take fashion advice from this guy? Mmmmm...nope.

LMAO! That's the funniest thing I've read all week. I love it!

Jay is not a nice person.

Marcia Brady

Here's what Jay SHOULD have said:

"Tim's news? Yeah, I was pleased about it because it can only make ME look good. Me, me ME! It's all about me!"

I think Jay thinks he is being funny. Problem is, most times he is the only one that thinks this.

Jay explained why he didn't take the $100,000-too many strings attached. He was also bitter about designing a dress for Heidi, who then chose to wear something else at the last minute. In later shows, designers won a car in addition to the layout in Elle magazine and the prize money. Jay did not win a car that first season.

Jay's got a strong point of view and he's fearless in saying what's on his mind. You gotta admire him for that.

Tim makes Project Runway rock.

One wonders what questions led up to the Jay outburst, and what was discussed afterwards. These days I don't believe half the stuff I read. Reporters often have a slanted point of view and foment trouble where there is none.

In this instance, I choose to remain skeptical. I like both Jay and Tim too much to takes sides.

I think you're probably right. Comedy is a delicate thing & is best left to the professionals.

People don't realize how much skill, timing & context it takes; they see someone like Kathy Griffin & think all she is doing is just complaining about people & they can be just as funny. Most can't. Look at how many articulate people get tripped up trying to make a joke.

Brilliant: Check out the picture of Tim with the New York article that is linked to in the McCarroll interview.

Is that a lipstick mark on the right side of Tim's face?!?!! (left side of photo)
*****
Hard to tell--but I'm sure he gets plenty of smooches. The fashion industry is half kissy/half bitchy--and Tim gets a lot of hugs and kisses.

There have been a couple of comments that Tim shouldn't say anything about Jay because the show is over, etc. Tim has taken an interest in a number of the designers--the title of Tim's half of this brouhaha is "Tim Gunn Thinks Michael Knight Needs to Get Out of Atlanta," yet nobody slams on that one. In one of Tim's podcasts, he said he thinks of the designers almost as his children. Now, to all you other parents: if you had a 30+ kid who only just moved out of the house, who takes opportunities and throws them away with both hands while alienating people left and right, who cannot construct a sentence that will pass the censors, wouldn't you sit them down and say, "Please stop screwing up your life, you don't want to be 65 and having to work as a Wal-mart greeter to fill in your SS gaps!"?

Jay will grow up, eventually. I just hope it's not too late. (Good heavens, he's making me lean toward Jeffrey. Even Vincent!)

I think Jay thinks he is being funny. Problem is, most times he is the only one that thinks this.

I don't think Jay means to be funny at all. His observations are biting and caustic, and full of sharp witticisms and criticisms. He's as harsh on himself at times as on others. And he doesn't mince words. Funny? Never. He doesn't even come close, and I suspect he would think that just being funny would be too pedestrian.

People like Jay are fodder for the media. His ilk is so OUTrageously OUT there. But if you rewatch Season 1, you'll see him turning on himself as much as others.

This is a complex, talented man, and these silly reporters and t.v. crews are trying to create sound bites off his words. Can't do it. You have to listen to Jay in the context of his past life in some podunk hillbilly town, his enormous creativity and talent despite that simple background, and, yes, his disillusionment at finding out that winning Project Runway still didn't get him to design Heidi's dress or that car.

That's still no excuse for trashing my man, Tim, though. But, hey, I don't know where Jay's coming from. None of us really do. I still want to know: What did the writer have in mind when formulating questions for Jay to answer in the interview?

I don't think that Jay's talent and creativity excuse his cattiness. So he didn't get to design Heidi's dress, or win a car...he did win a mentorship with Banana Republic which he refused and I understand that he had reasons for not accepting it but even if he and Banana Republic weren't a good creative fit, he might have gained some valuable contacts and information about breaking into the fashion industry.

Just because Jay has had a tough life does not his excuse his cruelty to others. Many people have had difficult lives, but we deal. We don't lash out by ripping people apart, and then acting all surprised when there are consequences to our harsh words. I'm sure Naomi Campbell has had a tough life too, but that doesn't give her the right to scream and throw cell phones. Yeah, Jay came from the country, but does that excuse his
calling Heidi a "bitch" or a "twat" or talking smack about Tim's education or sniping about his new job?

Jay is an adult now (pushing 30) and he's trying to break into a competitive industry. Treating people like dirt and acting all entitled because you had a hard-knocks life is ridiculous. Most people don't care about all his "issues". They have their own damn problems. They expect Jay to act professional, especially if he expects them to finance his business.

But, I agree with everyone else that in the end, Jay is his own worst enemy and he is only hurting his career.

And a big MMMMMWWWWWWAAAAA! for your well deserved mention in New York Mag!!!!!

Someone asked about Chloe. I just read in he WALL STREET JOURNAL that chloe signed 5 new business deals:

Chloe Dao, the Houston designer who won the "Project Runway Season II" reality television show last March, has signed five brand-extension deals, including one to design iPod cases to be sold by Target Corp. and Circuit City Stores Inc.

It sounds like she's doing well. She's a businesswoman, smart, focused, successful. I always liked her better than Jay. I think in the long run, she'll have a stronger career in this industry.

It makes me sad every time I read about Jay engaging in some petty behavior or nastiness towards Tim, Heidi and his fellow designers...

I think Jay fails to recognize that there's so much to be gained for your career by attaining the goodwill of others. They all have such a short window of opportunity to make a great impression, and Jay seems to squander his. His bitter post-show interviews have left many with a negative impression.

Collections come and go, but reputations last a long time.

I think Chicksinger said it best:

"Jay, just shut the fuck up once in a while, OK? Your words will come back to bite you in the ass at some point."

He may be a clever designer, but he's young. Life will teach him...

---Hi Jay!!

Hmm... people keep saying Jay is "young". I just checked his bio, it says he's 31 or 32 now.

Err... is 31 or 32 still considered "young" these days? LOL.

I don't know. I'm 26 and even I know that trash-talking Tim, Heidi, etc is stupid. He's old enough to know better...

Mia: Err... is 31 or 32 still considered "young" these days? LOL.
****
YES.

And every day it's seeming younger and younger.

I only have a couple of years on Tim and am ecstatic over all the wonderful things that have happened to him post-50. There's hope yet, lol.

Yes, he (Jay) is old enough to know better. But that's where we get the bumper sticker "Oh, No, Not Another Learning Experience!" from. I may have to hunt for my security badge every other morning, and don't ask me where we went for dinner last week--but I can remember every "oh why did I do/say that?" from years ago.

Which keeps me from buying platform shoes AGAIN. At least I learn.

WTF is Jay's problem? I read Tim's comments. I thought they were quite kind. Almost paternal in nature, Tim is a mentor and educator, after all. I would be incredibly flattered if Tim Gunn took such an active interest in my fashion career. Of course Tim feels invested in Jay's success, and the other designers. He feels proud of their accomplishments and expresses concern if he feels they are squandering opportunities.

If I were Jay, I'd be taking advantage of Tim's knowledge and contacts and seeking his sage advice. Even that angry peanut Jeffrey Sebelia is smart enough to realize that Tim is a goldmine and valuable resource, and shows Tim the proper respect.

Jay, just like Vincent Libretti, has an "entitlement complex". He's so delusional, he thinks he's so much better than everyone else, and he freaks out if anyone dares to criticise him. That's why he's stuck in a career rut. I can't see Jay evolving at all if he continues to be so petty and close-minded.

Actually it is. A friend of mine is in negotiations with Target for a SOAP he makes and it's worth several million dollars. It's freaking CRAZY. She's very business-savvy.

As for Jay, it makes me sad. I saw his critiques and commentary before I watched S1 and couldn't understand why everyone loved him. After I watched the show, I saw what everyone else saw. However, knowing how reality TV is, I'm wondering if he was edited to be an eccentric funny guy, rather than the bitter man is really is.

BTW - what was it that Tim Gunn said about women and size?

Cindy: BTW - what was it that Tim Gunn said about women and size?
**********
During S3, Alison's model was referred to as a "plus size" model and a lot of people flipped out. The reality is, in the fashion industry, she *is* a plus size. (In the real world, she's not.) this is an industry where 0 and 1 are the "norm" for a model.

But Tim also had a few words that were not pro-ultra-skinny models on NPR during this past week.

There may be other comments I don't know about; I'm sure someone else around here will add them to the mix!

I personally do not believe it is productive to compare Chloe and Jay's aftershow experiences. Each to his own. They both have talents and choose to use them differently.

Everybody get so fucking offended for any single thing that is said nowdays... Jebus! Is this really that big of a deal? C'mom. I don't think Tim will lose any sleep over it. Neither will Jay.

Haven't you guys learn yet?! They are gay men! They judge (and bitch). That's what they do! ;-)

Eh, Jay takes 2 years to produce one line for fashion week, and that's the end of it. That distribution deal he was bragging about - the one he claimed would allow everyday people to buy his clothes at affordable prices - it fell through. Nothing happened. Now he's trying to peddle some accessories through a few UO stores. So much for that. What's he got to show for his work? Nothing. Just a show that is fading in people's memories. Yesterday's news. Jay's lack of business sense is evident. There's no follow-up. He doesn't even make enough money to keep an apartment. Sad.

Here's Tim's (partial) timeline:

*Born 1953
*Working (teaching?) at Corcoran College of Art (while still in his 20's?)
*Joined Parson's at the age of 31
*Became Associate Dean at the age of 36
*Became Chair of Fashion Design at 47
*Became breakout reality TV star at age 51
*Accepts position as creative director of major fashion label at age 53.

That sounds like a pretty healthy career trajectory to me...

Jay's career in fashion? Not living up to anyone's expectations

Jay has been making some bad career moves: he's rejected the prize money that he won, he rejected a mentorship (which he desperately needed, it would appear), he's been alienating the very people who can help him the most, he's insisted on going it alone and yet he lashes out at people for not supporting him. I suspect that he's mostly angry at himself.

He could have accepted help without selling his soul. All that talent is meaningless if he doesn't do anything with it.

I think Jay is too enamored of himself to accept any constructive criticism. Arrogant pride prevents him from asking for assistance, even in areas where he is entirely ignorant and unexperienced - like business. Even that prick Sebelia listens to Tim Gunn because he looks up to him. He seeks Tim's guidance because he respects his opinion and knows that Tim can help him. Jay respects no one. Not even Tim. Actually, it seems Jay looks down on Tim. It boggles the mind. A catty pissant like Jay disparaging the accomplishments of Tim Gunn? Hilarious.

Jay whines about not getting a car yet he turns down $100,000? WTF? He trashes Banana Republic and bitches that there were "strings" attached, yet he refuses to explain what exactly was required of him. I suspect, not much. Maybe civility. Apparently too much to ask of Jay. Chloe said the mentorship consisted of a few meetings and phone calls - just a learning experience on the business end of things. Even Sebelia is taking advantage of the learning opportunity. But Jay thinks he is too good and holier than thou to learn anything from anyone else.

Jay may take smug solace in the belief that he's such a great misunderstood artistic talent, but, hey, in the real world, nobody cares, Jaybird.

ROFL. Word. Jay looks ridiculous. He's become a ridiculous caricature, a frothing bitchy cartoon troll. The way he presents himself is atrocious. No wonder all his "deals" fall through. Next thing you know, he'll be joining Wendy Pepper on Celebrity Poker along with the other reality TV has-beens.

guess Jay needed someone to talk about him (since his "Project Jay" tanked). like a child acting up to get attention....

What I remember from about Jay was how nasty his father was to him on camera during the time Tim visited the house. Sometimes people never see how they are replicating their parent when all their lives they have tried to get away from and be different than their parents. Really sad more than anything. Maybe this will be his wakeup call to get some help dealing with his past and present and not looking for acceptance from others but also not refusing help from others. Wounded people often work alone becuase they themselves do not feel " a part of the world". Maybe that is why Jay turned down the BR internship. Maybe he feels like a fraud becuase of the familial conditioning. (No I am not a shrink - just another creative wounded soul who works alone.)

Oh, absolutely. Tim has an extremely accomplished resume. And he continues to impress. I'm always amazed by his energy and achievements. In addition to his extensive work at Parsons and Project Runway, Tim has written a new book, developing his own show, writing columns, making media appearances, and now, starting a prestigious job at Liz Clairborne where he will be overseeing designers for Kate Spade, Juicy Couture, etc. At 50, Tim is stronger than ever. He's truly an inspiration and a marvel.

I also love how Tim has applied his formal study of sculpture and architecture to fashion design. He has such a keen eye for aesthetics.

It's disappointing that Jay McCarroll is attacking Tim and denigrating his work and academic credentials. Jealousy brings out the serious ugly in people.

jay is a dumbass for turning his nose up at the 100,000 and BR mentorship thing. he thinks he's too good for them? eh, loser. chloe and jeff took the $$$ and talk to the experts. can't hurt. jay just likes to bitch and diss. it's his thing. is he even interested in fashion? he says he wants to pretend to be a retard and call it performance art. whateva, dude. this clown ain't shit. team gunn all the way, baby!

I just checked the Urban Outfitters website. There's absolutely nothing on there about Jay. Nothing at all. I even did an advanced search and his brand (dies he even have one?) was nowhere to be seen. I guess this is just another one of his deals that fell apart.

What I remember from about Jay was how nasty his father was to him on camera during the time Tim visited the house. Sometimes people never see how they are replicating their parent when all their lives they have tried to get away from and be different than their parents.

That's so true. I think Jay's harshness and penchant for caustic verbal attacks comes from his father. He's just repeating the pattern. His father put him down and made him feel like shit growing up. Now Jay puts down other people and tears into them with his vicious insults in the same manner. He lashes out and hurts people because he's been hurt too. Unfortunately, most strangers have no patience for it, and Jay ends up alienating people. I hope he gets some help before it's too late. He's gonna find himself all alone and despised in the future.

Do we have ourselves a Truman Capote of the fashion scene here?

Hey, there's no need to start calling people names. Republican, indeed!

Damn! Where'd all these people come from?

The first time I saw season 1 I didnt like Jay AT ALL. This time around he really grew on me. I can understand what he's saying, but it's just like I tell my teenagers: YOU'RE MESSAGE IS LOST IN IT'S PRESENTATION! Jay, learn how to speak without alienating everyone!

Jay is a sad, bitter person. He's so defensive and insecure that his only recourse seems to be to lash out in desperation. As a fashion designer and entrepreneur he definitely has his principles, both to his credit and detriment, but other than that he is pathetic, especially calling out a person as dignified as Tim Gunn.

Jay's Spring 07 line in motion

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLRcIR1Akh4

Looks like he got a standing ovation

Well, in any case, he's getting a good deal of attention for this. I think his sometimes obnoxious behavior might just be a tactic for getting more media coverage. You know, to get people to talk about him.

I'm fully aware I might be completely over-estimating him, though. ;)

Uli, Jeffrey, Michael and Laura got standing ovations too. So did Malen Breton and Daniel Franco for their collections.

Jay received very mixed reviewed from the fashion critics.

He hasn't done much since then.

Emmett and Chloe have successful stores. They're clothes are selling and business is expanding. Malen just opened a new store. Jeffrey's store is opening later this year.

Uli and Kara Janx's dresses are in high demand and available in select stores. They're laughing all the way to the bank now.

Where's Jay? Stewing in his bitterness. Has he sold any clothes yet? Nope. Just a few bags. That's it. He's had the most time, yet accomplished the least. Except mouthing off. That's the only thing he excels at.

Well, in any case, he's getting a good deal of attention for this.

Negative attention. All he does is sully what's left of his reputation. And he doesn't produce the clothes to back it up. Who knows when his next collection will be? Fashion is fickle. And Jay's time has passed.

Um, Jay has a "company"? LOL. That's hilarious. Somebody needs to explain the definition of "company" to Jay. Sad deluded creature. More like a company of one spiteful cockroach.

Jay bitching and moaning about Tim's new job as Creative Director of Liz Clairborne? Why am I not surprised... meow .... claws come out.

Sounds like Jaybird has gorged his chubby tubby on a heaping dose of bitter-cakes. Jealousy will only prematurely age you, honey.

Au contraire, possum, Tim Gunn is extremely qualified and Liz Clairborne is very lucky to snag him.

Less whining, more designing! Grow up, Jay. A 32-yr-old baby is unattractive.

"Jeffrey's store is opening later this year."

Oh please. What self-respecting woman would buy clothes from that ignorant mysogynist?

(Of course, there are an awful lot of women with no self-respect, so maybe he'll last a little while). But I don't think he can spin PR into any kind of business. He is pretty well reviled- despite the appearances his late PR campaign tried to convey. And those 'fans' of his that I see posting on-line all sound/write like they are 13 years old, so I doubt they'll have the dough to buy his clothes.

Absolutely adore you, Gotham Tomato.

As for all of you Jay naysayers: Try to rise above your background as he has; try to be a gay boy in a podunk town; try to be ascerbic and astringent and STILL be understood - then make an educated judgment.

Love Jay. Love his caustic observations. Mark my words: He is biding his time, and he will go far.

Oh please, many of us ARE gay boys who grew up in podunk hillbilly towns. Jay ain't special. His pain isn't unique. Doesn't give us an excuse to act like bitter little titty babies. Danny V (who was afraid to come out to his parents) and Malan with his overbearing judgmental mother had difficult tragic childhoods too. I'm sure the formative years weren't easy on oh so gay Austin Scarlett. You don't see them going around spewing venom. Tim Gunn, btw, is my gay icon. I think it's more straight women who are willing to make excuses for Jay's nasty behavior. Many of us gays just see a jealous mean-spirited queen.

Wow, that doesn't make much sense to me. Let's just get past all the psycho-analysis of Jay and examine the facts. Who is going to be the biggy at a huge fashion corporation in charge of bringing in new talent and who is NOT? Mmm... me thinks Jay needs to send Mr. Gunn some flowers (all white arrangement would be lovely) and beg forgiveness.
Never burn your bridges..

I think that if Target isn't just signing to purposefully slap her name on it would be a pretty big deal. Just because it isn't clothes doesn't mean that it doesn't take any skill.

And she STILL designs clothes as well.

Waaaah waaaah waaahh... give Jay a pacifier to suck on. Everyone has some boo-hoo sob story. Bottom line: Miss Jaybird is one bitter bitch.

Funny how when Santino, Sebelia, Keith or Vince act like assholes, they get called out (and rightfully so!) But when Jay acts like an asshole, then cue the violins... he's just a poor wounded misunderstood genius gay boy??? Bwah. Blow me.

Don't matter if you're gay or straight, professionalism & civility always get you far in this world.

Jay's been spiraling downward ever since he called Heidi a "bitch" and a "twat" in the media. He's another misogynist asshole. It's about time he gets called out.

And dissing Tim? Stupid, stupid Jayturd.

Oh dear. Jay talking smack about Tim? Dumb move. Bad timing. Tim is recruiting and cultivating design talent for Liz Claiborne INC (Juicy Couture, Lucky Brand Jeans, Kate Spade, Kenzie, DKNY, Kenneth Cole). Fern Mallis was right. It always pays to be nice. Jay is an idiot.

Oh, and if he called me a "twat", I'd shove my 6 inch Manolo Blahnik heel up his pudgy ass. He owes Heidi an apology.

I read on BPR that Chloe signed a major distribution deal with QVC for her "Simply Chloe Dao" line that will allow her to sell mass market. Her clothes will be very accessible and also moderately priced. Lots of classic pieces, and some top-sellers from her Lot8 boutique. Chloe is also doing a line with Varsity Spirits. And she's working with LensCrafters to do an eyewear fashion show with Tim Gunn. Plus, her deal with Target.

Chloe has accomplished so much. It's incredible that she was once a refugee and lived in a PRISON CAMP. I have great respect for her.

Shit. Jay is starting to make Wendy Pepper look classy and professional.

STFU, Jay!

Jay who?

Jay is a fantastic and talented guy. There's nothing wrong in being selective and taking one's time to do things in peace and quiet. I love Tim, I really do, but why does he keep bugging Jay about showing at Bryant Park and having a line?

I don't think Jay hates Tim. Yes, he shouldn't have said the things he said, especially to a reporter. I know how tricky they can be trying to make you say things you'll regret later. Let's just move on and forget all about it.

Perhaps this was the first showing of his performance art - the act where he pretends he's a retard. He's got that down very, very well

Muahahaha... "Riding the Bus With My Sister" starring Jay McCarroll.

Jeeeez, first I'm accused of being a Republican--now this? ;-) No, no, this straight woman makes NO excuses for uncivil behaviour like Jay's. I have this burning desire to give him a time out--for about a month. Or make him scrub the kitchen floor with a toothbrush.

I hope Jay decides NOT to go back to working in the porn industry....GOD HELP US ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I just felt my breakfast come up)

"It is if you're a republican. Then you can still have a 'youthful indescretion' at the age of 41."--Gotham Tomato

--Lol. you're funny!

"Mark my words: He is biding his time, and he will go far."

--He's not biding his time. He can't get a job.

QVC? I read an article in the Wall Street Journal once about them. Susan Lucci made something like 14 grand in five minutes. Ms. Dao is going to be a very rich woman.

Oh, screw Tim, Jay. Why do you even care?

" Tokyodoll said...

I think it's unbelievable how people are so quick to jump on Jay's throat just because he's criticized Tim. Tim is not God, you know. "

Exactly. Give the man a break!!

jakeluvsjoey

jay is so fug. bitch is jealous because tim gunn is one sexy mofo. daddy gunn will always be hotter, thinner, taller, richer, classier, better dressed, and more successful. go suck on a lemon, jaybird.

"Tim is not God, you know. "

Perhaps not, but Tim is now in a position make decisions on who to employ at LC.... which makes him the next best thing to God for a wannabe designer.

"Wait....so let me get this straight: Tim Gunn can't move from sculpting and fine art into fashion (after working at Parsons and on PR), but Jay move from fashion into performance art or housewares with nothing more than a flutter of his cape? "

--------------------------

LOL. Yeah, but Jay's idea of performance art is pretending to be a "retard". So he says. Gawd, I can't imagine him doing housewares. He's such a joke.

"It doesn't matter how great a designer he is; the world is not run by solo geniuses, it's run by people who can work together. Genius is of no value if you can't do that. Fashion is no different than any other creative career.

I think that's Jay's main problem. He's too narcissistic to work with other people. He is constantly seething with vitriol and venom, sniping and cutting people down, and he ends up alienating any potential investors and business contacts. Nobody wants to work for or with a vindictive tempermental drama queen - especialy one with no money.

"In his current position AND in his new position AND in his affiliation with Project Runway, Tim could have thrown major business Jay's way. What are the chances of that happening now?"

Zip, zero, zilch. Jay blew it. Not only with Tim and Heidi. But by venting in the media, Jay is developing quite a reputation as a difficult and volatile basketcase.

Maybe he should have taken that Banana Republic mentorship. If only to learn some professionalism and how to conduct oneself with a modicum of civility. However, with all this chatter of Jay's "retard" impersonations, I suspect we'll likely see him on "The Surreal Life" rather than in the fashion industry. Perhaps his true calling is as a reality TV clown.

Ok so Jay thinks that not taking the prize money and not doing the apprenticship at Banana Republic is somehow taking some kind of high road, but selling his ass to Urban Outfitters isn't whoring?

Talk about shooting oneself in the foot.

Oh MY am I sick and tired of the cult of Tim Gunn and the sycophants eagerly following him so they can be the first to spout "Oh no you di'nt" and "BITTER MUCH!"

Truth is, Tim hasn't minced words with Jay to begin with so to bemoan his actions as unprofessional or "bitter" is amusing considering the fact that Tim's bread and butter is being the blunt and somewhat bitchy mentor. I imagine Jay wishes he had the same amount of exposure that Tim has at this point but if he's really worth his mettle as a designer he'll move past it quickly. Tim's overexposed to a point where he's going to be getting some well-deserved backlash sooner or later. I know just seeing his name in print now is a big Y-A-W-N for me.

Shit. Jay is starting to make Wendy Pepper look classy and professional.

Maybe it's time for the PR season of celebrity poker: Jay, Wendy Pepper and Vincent....

Malan Bretan has had two major fashion shows and opened a new store in New York. Shut up, Jay! The difference between Malan and Jay? Malan is dynamic and proactive about his career. Jay is just a bitchy whiner.

The short answer is that Jay is a loser. He has a mouthy, at times witty, always defiant anti-establishment tone. He trades off on that as if that makes a rebel or a true creative.

He can't handle that people expect things of him and are disappointed when he slacks off.

*snort* he looks like Jackie Osama.

Funny how Malan Bretan has organized TWO shows at Bryant Park since Project Runway. And he's opened a store in New York already.

But Jay McCarroll? It took him two years to put one show together, yet he bithces that it's too hard. Boo-fucking-hoo.

Now we see the cream rise to the top and losers makes excuses.

Get lost, Jay. All talk, no delievery. Your time is over. Malan is the real deal.

Tim Gunn is a professor, for F's sake. He's not in the hand-holding business; he's supposed to push talented pupils into becoming professional designers, and criticize them when they cut corners or adopt a bad attitude.

He probably says "oh, you decided to take a normal job instead? Oh, that's such a pity, you were one of our most talented students!" to five different people a day. Jay needs to get over himself.

Yes, Tim is a professor. The problem is, he's not Jay's professor and even if he was, professors who go around critiquing their students TO THE PRESS would quickly find themselves in a heap of trouble. Tim was WAAAAY out of line.

Jay is a whiny hick.
