Here's the thing. We like the dress. We just don't like it in that color or on Heidi. It's from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2008 RTW collection:
Model: Siri Tollerød
And it looks fabulous in that color on that model. It has a nicely structured, minimalist, modern-to-the-point-of-fururistic vibe to it and we LOVE that belt. The fuschia version is just too much and Heidi's too curvy for this kind of dress. It's for flat-chested, size 0 21-year-olds.
Still, we're excited to see what Heidi will be wearing this season. SOURCES TELL US that she has a new stylist, Maryam Malakpour.
So Maryam, take notes. The dress is gorgeous, but it's not the right one for your client.

What do you mean, dress!? Enough with the micro minis. Ridiculous. I don't want to see anyone's nether-regions, unbidden. Hmmph.

You're right, the one on the model looks 10x better... it doesn't even look like the same dress!
The Barbie pink makes it look a little "home sewn", no?
I love it on the runway model, not so much on Frau Seal.
I love it on the model from Alexander Mcqueen's show even though it doesn't fit her properly. On Heidi, the pink is a little too much; however, on the previews and commercials it looks more of a red, which she always seems to be able to pull off.
Loved AMcQ's runway version in the futuristic, industrialized, belted version far better than Heidi's stylist's interpretation. This is an instance when it would've been best not to make it her own. (look-wise, that is) ITA: patsy stone's comment that it also has something of a home sewn vibe.
Oh, well. Wonder how this new stylist will fare? I love Heidi, but given how she handled Jay with the red-carpet "hot-mama" gown fiasco, she seems to have a record for being a bit on the fickle side.

Heidi was on the Today show today, here's the video. She hates her own voice and the nether regions are dangerously close to showing.

Heidi's version looks like an escapee from Chloe's final collection: upholstery fabric. Heidi's fashions have always been interesting to watch and you boys were strangely silent on the front last season. Let's hope the new stylist gives you more to work with!
oooh, I love that grey fabric and with the red belt, I swoon.
Too pink, too short, too...young. How old does Heidi think she is anyway?
ooooo, Thanks Lima Bean. She was backstroking the whole move to Lifetime issue.
And holy shit...on that PR clip the Duchess was wearing WHITE jeans. What is the world coming to?
The gray is definitely nicer, but i actually think the pink isn't so terrible. It really does need to be longer, though. This length is too reminiscent of Judy Jetson. A few inches more, and Heidi would still be showing substantial leg.
The dress looks like stewardess gear for "Whore Airlines".
I don't care how young and thin you are, unless I'm a gyno, I just don't want to see pooty.
I think Heidi is having the same problem with this dress that Meryl Streep had with the Donna Karan number she wore to the Mama Mia premier last week: The fabric doesn't help the cause.
Other than that, yes it is a cute dress for a much younger woman, but then again, if I had Heidi's body, I might wear it as well. But clearly, Heidi is wearing it because she wants to be the center of attention in the photos.
On a side note: Tim looks entirely too digified to be in the picture with the other three chucklenuts.

It looks okay, but I agree with Patsy Stone that it looks home sewn--or PR sewn, perhaps. I also had the same thought as embeedubya: in the color and fabric Heidi's wearing, and with all those seams, it looks like part of Chloe Dao's final PR collection.
At least the slits in the skirt look to be sewn up on Heidi's dress. She would have never pulled that off!
I love the gray version, the fabric texture is another thing that makes the design work.
I can remember the outrage with micromini's the first time they came around. Back then you just heard they were too short, people were still too afraid to actually mention out loud "nether-regions" or "pooty" so I think it's amusing how far we've come! And it's also amusing because eventually this look will be over, like everything else, till it's ready to rise again from the dead.
God, I'm so old.
BrianB
What everyone says above (especially the Chloe Dao fabric choice) and also, the boob dart looks like it's in the wrong place. Does it even fit her right?
The outfit reminds me of Michael Knight's Foxy Brown look. Forget the dress the photo is so photoshopped that the entire gang looks like they are made of wax. Can't wait for the new season, except after reading the bios it seems that Bravo just called a couple of schools and asked them to send over your peeps with the best freaky hair. I suppose they were casting PR and Shear Genius at the same time :)
On Heidi the bust dart just doesn't fit....maybe if she wore a bra it would help.
But then again, that does nothing for the whole length issue.
I adore this dress, the model's version, of course. Satin is a bitch to pull off and it just doesn't work here. The belt is GORGEOUS! I love love love Alexander McQueen!!
I love the dress but not on Heidi. Out and aufed!
Enough with the tunic length dresses, already!! And it does look like Barbie in the pink satin. If the purpose was to make Heidi stand out in the photos (her clothing is much more colorful and bright), it worked. But not in a good way.
Way way too short. As someone else said in a previous thread - somewhere there is a hooker upset because Heidi stole her dress.
It looks cheep, no?
That shiny pink fabric is the problem. It is why Chloe's clothes missed the mark, in my humble opinion. This is fabric that looks appropriate on a bridesmaid's dress (which we all know are supposed to be hideous), and looks home-sewn everywhere else.
I see this material on many dresses and shirts these days and always think the same thing: it won't be long before those people will wake up and say "Why did I think that looked good??" It will date them to this decade.
And PLEASE...if you're going to wear a micromini, which is meant to accentuate your long legs, don't cut the line with an ankle-strap shoe! That look is SO UGLY!
I agree that Heidi's curves make the dress look trashy. Also her version is too shiny bright and the skirt is tapered at the hem instead of flairing out like it does on the runway model.
To paraphrase Patsy Stone (the TV one, not ours), one more inch and the whole world is her gynecologist.
Not loving the dress. Love it on the runway, but I dislike the pink with the plain black belt.
Heidi's looks like something Chloe would have designed. One more vote for the model's version.

That's hilarious, Gorge. I don't like the dress at all. It looks like something you'd see on a Barbie doll.
When it comes to fashion, Heidi takes three steps forward and two steps back.
No one should ever wear anything that screams, "Star Trek!" as loud as that dress does.

Yes, it sets the same tone as the slutty stewardess costumes Jean-Paul Gaultier did for The Fifth Element.
So slutty, bad color, ill fitting, potentially home sewn? Heidi, you're 'auf'... hand your mike to Iman on the way out.
In pink, it looks very Mi-y-aey-chael Knight. Looks like the result of a PR challenge ... "Designers, you have 24 hours to create the stewardess dress of the future for Hugh Hefner Airlines...go!"
Wow...we are all on the same wavelength here...hooker stewardess as designed by Michael Knight with fabric supplied by Chloe.
That shows you how important it is to choose the right fabric. The one in satin looks chip in a chip way. I also think that the belt makes the dress, sans belt is just not very interesting.
My suggestion would be to put a turtleneck under the grey (gray?) TUNIC, with wide legged trousers underneath - then you have something Katharine Hepburn would have worn.
You have to be a stick figure to look good in this dress.
For some reason it looks home-sewn and I know it's not the case but it does.
Agree with everyone about the color, the fabric, the length, the belt, the fit.
What's hilarious to me is that they have Heidi, Nina, and Tim in bright colors (the Duchess is in his usual dark) surrounded by bolts of bright fabric while the designers are all scrunched together in the back wearing black as if they were an afterthought. Which maybe this season they are.

100x better
Off topic... I just read on People.com that Tim said that the fans should be prepared to yell at their TVs this season.
"It’s a real roller coaster,” says Gunn ...“[Fans] are going to get mad — early! There are some big surprises: Favorites won’t be there anymore, and I can only imagine how the blogs are going to explode over some of the challenge winners. We say that each season has a different DNA and boy, is that true.”
I think that was directed to us.
He goes on to say something about each of the contestants.
"It's so pink, she's so blonde and her boobs are so big...she's drawing attention, but not in a good way"
Semi-accurate Heidi quote regarding Ramilious and the Wrestling Diva Challange
I agree with Patsy, it looks homesewn. I think it's a combo of the color and the (I think?) different, more satiny fabric. It looks more textured in the runway shot. Much better, I think.
I also agree with TLo that Heidi's too curvy for it. Her boobs interrupt the lines of the whole bodice. I think an excellent argument could be made about the limited wisom of designing a dress for women that is ruined by breasts, but, all the same, it is what it is it's not right for her.
I would also add that the narrower belt was a mistake. Much better with the wide one.
And I hate her hair. All around, got to go with "Out.'
I don't think the outfit would look much more spectacular on a 20 year old than it does Heidi. The problem with is it is simply too much. Too short, to shiny, and too pink (and I love pink).
Totally agree with you on the color, but I don't think Heidi is too curvy for the dress. The bodice on the model looks poorly fitted to me. And the skirt needs to be longer on both of them.
You're right; that's a gorgeous dress on the model. But it isn't just a different color; it's completely different fabric.
And, yes, the fit on the model is completely different; Heidi is much curvier; but she could also try going up a dress size or two.
you guys are too critical, she looks fine in that dress.
It's a very different look from the grey version, but it's fine. Maybe no the most fabulous thing, but not bad.
i hope you didn't just say "Heidi is too curvey"
Sort of bucking the trend here -- it's not great, but not bad. I prefer the color combination (and definitely the belt!) on the runway version. But nothing in the world will convince me that that model looks good. She looks like she's been on a journey of five light years and hasn't eaten in all that time. Scrawny, big-haired and pale? Keep it. I'll take curvy, slightly-slutty, colorful and yet somehow, alive every time. So, I guess, not quite an in, but a less resounding out.
If she bends over, the boobage AND the fraulein bits will be on display. Yes, enough with the extreme minis
Meet George Jetson...
And Jane, his wife.
The more I look at the on-the-runway version, the less I think it's much better. Why? Because when a garment's below-the-waist real estate is smaller than the above-the-waist real estate it just looks stupid. Anon. 12:27 had a good idea: a turtleneck and trousers a la Hepburn (much as I hate turtlenecks, and much as I'm looking forward to Hepburn losing the D&D competition!).
It looks like something you'd see on a Barbie doll
Going back to the days of Barbie's origins, I still have my original Barbie, who had an absolutely fabulous strapless gold and white sheath dress, WITH matching coat-which had fur-trimmed cuffs. The original Barbie was supposed to be a fashion model.
The current Barbie doll might be a hooker, but my Barbie had class- and she would not have been caught dead in Heidi's get-up.
Out. It looks as if she is wearing a cheap knockoff.
"bitchybitchybitchy said: The original Barbie was supposed to be a fashion model."
Barbie; I always hated that bitch.

It doesn't really matter if Barbie is a hooker because Ken is missing his dangly bits, so I'm thinking all he wants to do is spoon.

Has no one noticed the hem appears to have been taped up? It certainly was never pressed or top stitched.
If this came down the PR runway, it would be PANNED by the lot of them!
"Looks like first year designer school," "That fabric choice - I'm interested in knowing how you came up with that?" "It's not innovative, you've missed the point of the challenge, and it's something anybody could design."
Oi, Heidi - it's a bit mutton dressed as lamb, isn't it? Wearing clothes like that is not just about having the bod for it, it's about being age appropriate, which this ain't on her. It kind of lacks "Quality, taste and style." hahaha! Let's nominate Heidi for Tim's show!!!!!!!
Much better on the model. It's a bit too short, no?

I noticed that too. You can see it better in the third picture.
OUT! She's too old for that dress.
Hey -- in the first preview you guys posted, I think Heidi is wearing the McQueen belt (the one from the runway version of this dress) in black with that black and red mini dress she's wearing. I think that dress is also too short, but I am really digging the belt.

Hi wannabe,
Yes, she is.
Here's a link to the collection.
TLo
Aw, I like the chocolate box look on Heidi.
But, they could've fit the top better.
Or, maybe they couldn't. The version on the runway is very much cooler, but it doesn't even fit the model right up top.

I agree with GothamT--
TIm just looks like the parent in the photos--
Poor Tim-- first he mentors these 16 newbies, now he has to babysit the judges!
I like the dress on Heidi-- yes short has always been her tradmark, but I don't think the color is that bad and I like the way she is showing some cleavage-- an interesting button to close it at one point might be fun, but hey if mine looked that good I might be showing them too. Better than having no chest like the model. I like the color on the model too. That color may have washed Heidi out.
Frau Seal should be the first to know that when you've got hips like she does you should never put pocket flaps on them!
Because of the pink and the material I thought it was Cloe Dao at first!
Marty the Wizard
CHLOE DAO! First thing I thought. I've mentioned before, I don't like anything that shines that much on me, not even jewelry.
i think she looks great. Sure, a little 'Stewardess On A Gay Spaceship', but she has the legs to pull of a mini, so why shouldn't she? Sometimes i think you all have your snark buttons stuck on 'ON' and forget to turn 'em off when something nice comes around.
Pretty girl, pretty dress.
TLo,
I just wanted to say that I love these posts. It gives me a chance to compare something on the runway vs. on a real woman and what a difference that makes. It's a whole "new" dress on Heidi. I wonder if the designers think about that too or they just care about the way they look on the runway.

She looks "great" but she looks "a little Stewardess On A Gay Spaceship"?????
You're contradicting yourself.
Heidi couldn't splurge for the real one apparently and tried to make it herself. The seems look disastrous and there are NO slits in her version... she must have hemmed it. And the texture of the material on the grey is a 100xs better!
Being a sewer, I can definitely say that Heidi's boobs are too big for that dress - the bust darts are too high up. That dress should have been altered for her by lowering the darts for her full bust. She can't even pull it off; it's so obvious it doesn't fit her chest.
I really dislike the dress and think it flatters no one. That said, I like the style better on Heidi than on the model, although I prefer the gray to the pink. I'm one who prefers people with some flesh on their bones, though.
My main problem with the dress Heidi's got on is that it looks like someone needed to press the damn seams, especially on what little there is of that skirt.
On Heidi that dress in that color looks like an over-sexed superhero costume. Of course, in the right context that might be completely appropriate.
this might not mean anything to you, but the big annual convention of Children's librarians just convened and some very talented wags put together this "Project ALA" clip. All of the people being interviewed are famous authors, illustrators, agents, etc. Not the world's most fashionable crowd (and they know it) making this even funnier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64e5FfSS1GQ
To quote Heidi, "It looks chip."
It looks like a bridesmaid dress that was unsuccessfully shortened. Then again, are they ever successfully shortened??
Forget the dress - the shoes are what cause intense pain!
From far it looked nice but then you sooo right, Heidi is too curvy for this dress...
But, I'm gonna be a little bit biased and give an IN for her..
I think if the wears a bigger belt, just the like flat-chested model, she should be fine. :)
To quote dear old Mom: "Just because you CAN wear it, it doesn't mean you SHOULD."
Out.
I didn't know Heidi was up for a remake of Barbarella.
I am laughing at Heidi being "too curvy." She can't be more than a B cup, no?! Please! Hollywood has such a skewed version of sizes.
The close up of the model is hilarious. I don't see any breasts at all! It's like a dress designed for a teenage boy. I don't like either version frankly.
When I saw that color I thought, "RAMI!!" BTW...why isn't the hem pressed?
You gays must have fashion encyclopedic minds toknow the designer of Heidi's clothes. I think she looks both beautiful and the color helps her stand out.
I just caught the first challenge promo - the materials come from a grocery store and Austin gives them a mini prep talk before they attack Gristedes en masse.
'nuf about Heidi. Let's talk about bigger sins, shall we? What I want to know: why is Nina shopping at Dress Barn? Did the producers cull her accessories?
The level of airbrushing in that picture is staggering. No one looks real.
And the micromini needs to go.
Her Titsin are too big for it...they ruin the minimalist line.
I am quite taken by the handbag the model is carrying (and the other versions on that link to Style.com), the one with the handle on the back. I tried to find them online with no luck. Does anyone know who sells them?

This is what happens when you're sacked by Elle....oh, the humanity!
S1E1 was on last week, and I was cringing at Heidi's Kiss t-shirt and rolled-up jeans. She does have a history of le tacky.
This pink thing makes her girls look odd and saggy. Does Heidi not own a mirror?
Are you sure it is even the same dress? The one shown on the runway has a front seam and slits off to the sides. Moreover, darts/seams at the bust line are completely different. To me, it looks like Heidi is wearing a bad knockoff of the McQueen dress.
Hodie lookes a candy striper with emphasis on CANDY. The dress looks like someone took a pink satin pillowcase and made it into a "dress".
AUF, AUF, AUF, AUF!!!
Especially in contrast to Tim Gunn.
-burnsie
Does this dress look a little Chloe Dao, from her finale runway collection? didn't like it then either.
I just can't get past the bust darts! They are just a tad too high - as Heidi herself would say "the boobs were never where they were supposed to be".
hey, i've seen this post a few days ago and only now I noticed the last photo you posted.... anyone noticed that Heidi does not have her new tatoo???? you can see she has it in the picture of her visit to Conan O'Brien....
I guess the tatoo was too much for the promo pictures....
weird....
i really like the tatoo...
ok, look at that last picture of Heidi again: there is a hand in her left hip, but then her left arm appears to be around Tim... WTF?????
people doing the photoshop: be more careful!! don't give people 3 arms!!!! :-))))

That's stupid. Why not show the tattoo?
Nice dress on the stick thin model, looks like something from Bladerunner. Not only out for the German, but is this the worst job of photoshopping ever? The heads don't even match the bodies! They're actually too big and lit differently.
Short, tight, shiny...
What was it now?
Oh, yes! Slutty, slutty, slutty.
