Did That Bitch "Pull a Jay" Again?

Tuesday, June 17, 2008 by
Heidi Klum attends the 67th Annual Peabody Awards at the Waldorf Astoria in head-to-toe Roland Mouret Pre-Fall 2008 Collection.

First things first:

She looks amazing.

Lorenzo is a big fan of designer Roland Mouret's geometric, highly structured clothing and he clapped hands like a little girl when he saw Heidi wearing this. Last year, another PR judge put Mouret on the map when Victoria Beckham was widely photographed wearing his "Moon" dress and making it a must-have.

For once, she looks classy, polished and understated, letting the minimalist dress and the almost total lack of jewelry showcase her classic beauty. Well done, Frau.

The PROBLEM is, last month Christian said that he was going to be "dressing her for the Peabody Awards. " Did she do to Princess what she infamously did to Jay McCarroll several years back when she asked him to design a dress for the Emmy Awards and at the last minute, ditched him for another designer?

More pictures:

In related news, PR won a Peabody award for excellence in radio and television broadcasting. It's the first time a reality TV series has won the prestigious award. Go PR!

In other related news, Frau Seal gave an interview to the Forbes Video Network wherein she reveals that in Season 5, the show will be getting a "facelift" and will have more "Hollywood flair" when it moves to L.A. Commence wild speculation...NOW!

Can't help but think that if Chris had designed this dress in his Shoulder Pad challenge, he still would have been aufed.

But Heidi manages to pull it off... I guess.

Hollywood. More costumey clothing than you could shake a martini at.

Ah, well. It'll be an amusing change for *one* season.

Oh please. Like Chris March could ever design something that chic and clean.

the dress is beautiful. not sure about the black clunky shoes though. someone please enlighten me. we need to hear what princess thinks!!

i dont like the idea of the LA part of PR, its just not right.

Hmmm...She looks shockingly tasteful in that dress. But what the hell is she doing with a tatoo? That's like putting grafitti on the Chrystler building.

As for the facelift of moving the show to L.A. (and ironic that she's using 'facelift' to decribe a move to L.A.), this whole Lifetime move sounds worse and worser the more you hear of it. And how bizarre that she says they'll have new 'catchphrases'. Apparently they don't get that THEY don't decide what catchphrases come out of a show - the audience decides that. But could it be that Bravo trademarked certain catchphrases that came out of the show, so they can no longer use them?

And as for L.A. itself, considering that three of the most annoying, obnoxious and just plain bad designers on PR came from L.A. (Santino, Jeffrey & SweetP), it doesn't bode well for the future of the show.

She looks good in the dress though.

Her hair is...a little too much "40's wife waiting patiently for her love to return from the war" for me, but that's a minimal concern. She does look good. I'm not a fan of the shoes, though.

YvesPaul said...

The dress looks gorgeous, and the hair is also wonderful, but don't you guys think the make up is a tad severe?

Lilithcat said...

She looks fabulous! I love the Veronica Lake styling. But . . . (there's always a "but", isn't there?), the shoes suck big time.

As for "pulling a Jay" (that sounds rather, hmm, obscene?), since we know that Christian is a legend in his own mind, I wouldn't be surprised if the truth behind "I'm dressing her for the Peabodies" was really "I'm submitting a design for her consideration".

Anonymous said...

I sure hope Frau Seal did not pull another Jay on Chris. That would be incredibly crappy and classless to say the least and I don't want to not like Heidi.

Could it be that her people tell her to pull a Jay every now and again, just to keep her edge and remind all of those hopeful young designers that the fashion industry is a bitch?

I'm still not feeling good about the Hollywood treatment our beloved PR will be experiencing in S5. I don't want to see it go all Access Hollywood on us. Afterall, NYC was and always has been an essential character in the show and was part of the whole PR formula that made it so successful. I don't care how many celebrities they throw at us in S5 (and that includes both Chris Noth & George Clooney), I'll take NYC over Hollywood any day of the week.

I'd like to hear the dirt on that. I expect that you boys will have your crack investigative team fan out around the globe to find us the answers.

And btw, if you saw just the pictures of her out on the street, you'd think she was shooting a movie. That look is so uncharacteristic for her. I think this must have taken a lot of energy and concentration for her, but after getting past the cameras she likely couldn't take it anymore and pulled a bunch of junk jewelry out of her purse and loaded herself up, while tossing a phone at her assistant's head and demanding that she run out to the nearest bargain bin to get her a sequin jacket and big hat. Then she slumped back in her chair, waiting for her fix to kick in.

Love the 40's look hair and makeup.
Love the dress, hate the shoes.
That said, I cannot imagine PPS designing anything for Heidi.
On to LA. One word: NOOOOOOOOO!

1. She looks beautiful but I agree that the styling is severe. Looks like she should have had the part of the evil German in the third Indiana Jones movie (wish I could insert photo link, but I suck at clever computer manipulation).

2. the shoes. the shoes. the shoes. Calling Herman Munster.

3. Please, someone explain tatoos to me. Before they go through the pain, why can't potential tatoo-ees have a vision of what that mess will look like on their 80 year old skin in the future. OMG what a travesty.

4. Maybe Chrisitan did design a dress for her. Is she required to wear it if she doesn't like it? Maybe he passed it along to Whoopie.....

PhantomMinuet said...

I love that dress. Love it. It has all the qualities I admire. Clean, elegant, flattering, striking. And Heidi looks like a million bucks. Her styling is right on the mark.

Bill said...

Agreed that it's very costumey. But it's also fabulous. It looks so much better on Frau Seal than on the runway.

It's a little Stanwyck in Double Indemnity with some Veronica Lake thrown in for good measure.

CQAussie said...

I kinda don't love it. Her hair is fab though but her make up looks a bit odd....hate her shoes.

"Hollywood Flair"??? good grief! Does this mean F-List celeb/designers are gonna be throwing their weight around in the work room?? As judges/mentors??? I don't think I have the strength.....

Maybe some celebs are gonna drop in for some PR fun? That might be cool.....depending on which celeb....just can't get behind PR in LA. PR belongs in NYC.

Sewing Siren said...

I've never seen her look better. I like everything about it. The length, the sleeve, and the color. I also love the shoes and hair.
I really do not see her in Christian's designs and I was suprized when he announced that he was dressing her. Maybe she was too.

KayEssAy said...

I love the dress, but something just seems off in the styling to me...of course Heidi is GORGEOUS...I guess just because we've seen Katherine Heigl working the 40's hair/red lips thing so. damn. much. lately, it looks weird on someone else.

Sewing Siren said...

Anon 10:07 the dress that Heidi is wearing does not have shoulder pads.

Mom said...

Ditto to what sewing siren said about not seeing PPS's clothes working on Heidi. Which is saying something, given the range of things she has appeared in.

But let's not discourage her here: Even if the makeup is a bit severe, the hair a bit cliched and the shoes a bit clunky, this is all still light years better than anything we've seen her in...since like forever. Simple and sleek looks good on Heidi!

Saith the girl from Celtics land, "Give me New York grit over Hollywood flair any day of the week."

As far as the Mouret - love the dress and her styling, but the fit through the bust and torso is too tight. You can see the draglines pulling toward the back.

veruca salt said...

I agree with Sewing Siren, I think that is the best I have ever seen her look at an event. Maybe she finally took your advise and got some new gays!

She looks AMAZING!!! Best look EVER!!!

A bit of "Hollywood Flair" will not hurt this show. Let's be honest; the PR sets must have cost a buck ten to construct (the contestents sit on folding chairs for God's sake!!) It won't hurt them to glam it up a bit.

FashionFanatic said...

The dress is gorgeous, simple and elegant. She looks so sophisticated, it doesn't even look like her.

FashionFanatic said...

It all depends on what she means by "flair". Hollywood is one of the tackiest places on this planet when it comes to fashion.

I think that's the wind blowing. Take a look at the red carpet pictures.

She reminds me of Dr. Elsa Schneider in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

I didn't recognize her, and I have to say, while I think she wears the dress well, her makeup and hair are really overdone.

Hi Tbone,

Total surprise! We don't know if it's permanent or not. The swirling script appears to spell out the name of her husband, Seal.

She looks pretty good, a bit like a replicant from Bladerunner. Bad shoes, though. I understand its the fashion to wear non matching shoes but these black clunky things look like mobsters could use them to weigh down a corpse. She still needs one better gay, who could have told her to wear a black shoe with some geometric edges to complement the origami of the dress.

Nina tends to wear that same kind of silhouette, but we don't think her dress is a Roland Mouret.

I'm sorry...those shoes are just ugly. They are universally unflattering. If Heidi and SJP don't even look good in them, note to regular girls: tree stumps!

Heidi looks fantastic, for a second I thought she was Gwyneth Paltrow.

Anonymous said...

Those shoes make me nervous.

Lerve that dress and lerve her in it, but I hate those shoes.

I'd forgotten that it was Season 5 out in LA - as others have noted, it is rather amusing to see the words "facelift" and "Hollywood flair" in the same paragraph.

Can't you already just hear the endless repetitions of the phrase "real Hollywood glamour"?

I gotta tell y'all, my heart ain't in it.

She looks stunning, the dress, the hair, the perfect application of makeup, you better give your stylist a raise!

Oh, inside the three stars of her tattoo are the letters "L," "H," and "J." They probably stand for her kids Leni, Henry, and Johan.

OK, I can't believe I know that.

I'm not a huge fan of tattoos, but it is kind of cute that it's about her husband and kids. Better than the white people who get some Chinese symbol that probably means "asshole."

Speaking of "facelifts"....Frau looks rather tight and smooth in the facial area, no?

Precisely. Instead, worry about how perfectly appalling you look right now.

When I look at these photos, my eye is always drawn to those awful shoes. They overpower that gorgeous dress. I agree with Gorgeous Things about the fit though. The '40s styling is fine, if a bit severe, but those Louboutins have to go.

I'm just going to assume that the move to LA, the new catchphrases, etc. means PR will now become a train wreck. I hope I'm wrong. I read recently that the Weinsteins are trying to wring every last dollar out of the show so the product placement and sponsored challenges are likely to get even worse. Wal-Mart, here we come.

Love the whole look. I am a sucker for 40's hollywood glamour done right. It is a bit costumey, but beautiful nonetheless. With this look, she could be a conyender for Dames & Divas.

As far as the move to the west coast, it sounds like they are trying to put a dress on a pig.

Beth said...

oops, that's "contender"

Heidi looks a million times better in the dress than that pale, haggard model. (Seriously, what was the designer thinking...."find me a model who looks like death warmed over so my dress will look great by comparison"?)

Hate the shoes. I'm betting the tat is temporary.

Mistress Cynica said...

The dress is gorgeous and the woman looks beautiful, but she looks nothing like Heidi Klum. If the photos hadn't been labeled I would never have recognized her.

Brooklyn Bomber said...

Love the dress. Maybe not the length on her, but still. Gorgeous.

But, er. . .uh. . . where is the tattoo located?

Brooklyn Bomber said...

Oh, I see. Inside of her right forearm.

Anonymous said...

She never looked so good. Brava!!

Joanie said...

That lipstick is so wrong on her

Anonymous said...

Leave it to a goddess like HK to acheive the impossible and make a runway model look even more sickly and blank by comparison.

And i love the tattoo! Her body has been everyone else's canvas, now it's her turn!

Anonymous said...

The dress is beautiful but to be honest the model on the runway looks much better in it than Heidi. Maybe it's just the makeup or the hair but I don't like it that much on her. And the shoes are horrible.

Anonymous said...

Just noticed that the shoes are also the same shoes that the model wore on the runway. Blech.

Anonymous said...

"Hollywood flair," blech. As though there aren't enough shows on television right now doing the LA thing, and as though fashion isn't already heavily skewed toward the celebrity crowd thereabouts. And word to GT, about the most annoying designers coming out of LA in past seasons--I can count on one hand the LA designers that *weren't* obnoxious. Sigh.

Did I barely recognize Heidi, or what. Wow.

Anonymous said...

BTW, the tatoo is for real, according to Heidi. For those of you who understand German:

Anonymous said...

Oh my god I barely recognized Heidi and that's a good thing. Good job, Frau Seal! You look better than ever!! I expect that kind of glamor on Season 5. Make it work!!

Anonymous said...

From bernd's link:

"Es ist echt", sagte Klum, die für ihre US-Show "Project Runway" ausgezeichnet wurde, einem RTL-Reporter. "Ich glaube, in meinem Alter - mit 35 - ist es okay."

("It's real.....I think at my age--35--it's ok.")

Apparently Seal also got a tat, a fairly complicated one, but Heidi wouldn't say where.

This pretty much guarantees they'll end up divorcing.

Stubenville said...

I hope 'Hollywood flair' isn't code for "We replaced Tim Gunn with Bruce Valance."

Anonymous said...

The whole appeal of Project Runway is that it is in New York City.It is a major component of the show, just like Tim Gunn. I can't imagine it having the same appeal or feeling if it is in LA. Yuck!
This is the same thing that bugged me about Top Design...how DULL it seemed by being in LA and not NYC.

Marie said...

She looks amazing, but I am still having a hard time believing it is her. Some of the pictures just don't look like her.

Anonymous said...

Are you sure that is Heidi? Sure doesn't look like her.

As for Hollywood, no thanks. There is enough LA nonsense on TV you can keep USA network and L.A. This season coming up is the last one for me.

Anonymous said...

While I am on the Heidi love train and think she looks fabulous, Laura looks even better. That woman is the epitome of timeless elegance.

Anonymous said...

The Frau looks gorgeous. She looks like Kim Basinger from LA Confidential. The shoes? Not so much. It's like she's channeling Carrie Bradshaw there.

Chris Noth is NY-based, not LA.
