Vanity, thy name is Posh

People Magazine has the dishy scoop on Posh's vanity line, dVb:

"The blogosphere has been buzzing with reports that Victoria Beckham’s dVb denim line is being dropped from several top retailers, including L.A.’s famous Fred Segal and Kitson boutiques. Turns out that while the line isn’t dropped from Kitson, it’s definitely not performing up to expectation — and that’s being attributed to Posh’s laissez-faire attitude. Kitson owner Fraser Ross tells PEOPLE, “She’s not supporting the line. It’s not good for her brand and not good for her endorsements. In a tough economy, you need to be in partnership with the people that are selling your line to your fans. That’s the bottom line.” And it’s not like she’s not nearby. Ross tells PEOPLE that “Victoria lives fifteen minutes from the store. That’s just bad business.” But, he hasn’t given up hope in reviving the line and is in talks with her people to prop up the ailing sales. “We haven’t dumped it. Hopefully there will be some kind of resolution.”

This is what happens when people with no design skills but a lot of money think they can become designers. They just sign off on any old shit and don't do the back-breaking work required to launch and sell their line. Stuff like this just isn't good for the fashion industry. People like Posh and Sarah Jessica Parker do more good for the world of fashion by WEARING good clothes than by "designing" (and we use that term loosely) bad ones.

Ironically, Posh's biggest fan just recently voiced similar thoughts:

"Project Runway champ Christian Siriano dissed The Hills stars Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port at the TAO Beach Season Two Grand Opening in Las Vegas on April 12. Apparently their fashion lines aren’t good enough!

Christian told Life & Style, “It’s really sad that if I didn’t win Project Runway, I probably wouldn’t have the sponsors I have now. I would have never been able to do what they have done because they all have disposable income, and yet their work still isn’t that great! I mean, it’s fun and flirty and young, but they’re not innovators. None of them will ever be an innovative designer. Buyers and editors are looking for longevity, and hopefully they will see that in me.”

In other news, we updated T Lo TWICE in ONE WEEK, Bitches!

Okay, is it me, or does PPS look eerily like a young male Barbra Streisand in that photo?

Well...he's right about that one.

TLo updated their other blog TWICE IN A WEEK. Quick, get them a medal!

For god's sake, someone give Posh a hoagie, and make sure she eats and digests it!

I'm not suprised, she's in the wrong market.Celebrity endorsed fashion lines usually do better at low end mass market chains- like Mary Kate and Ashley at Wal-Mart and Jacklyn Smith at K-Mart.

"None of them will ever be an innovative designer. "

The question is - will he?

I'm trying to imagine what Christian will look like when he's 45. I hope more Karl Lagerfeld than Kenny Rogers.

Is it just me or does being able to see a 5 o'clock shadow on the Princess's face ick anyone else out? Somehow it just doesn't look right.

I said it before: Paris Hilton is to Perez Hilton in blog/gossip, as Posh is to Christian S in .. and now Christian is already looking like Paris's spawn, pose, pout and craptastic 'tude.

I rolled my eyes when I heard that "The Hills" girls were designing clothes. I saw their "collections" and they're horrible, but teenagers will buy them so that they can look like them.

Most celebrities now are trying to be fashion designers on top of everything else they already do. It's sick. That would be like Zac Posen playing a part in a movie or Betsey Johnson getting a record deal.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure most celebrities who are trying to be designers don't actually design a damned thing. They have 'ghost designers' and their only input, when it comes down to it, is 'I like, I like, I no like'.

Then again, big designers have in-house designers, too... .

The problem I have with Christian is his clinging to his 'innovative' description of himself.

It's not like he's designing clothes that use innovative technology to recycle sweat into drinkable water or using fabric that acts as flexible solar panels so you can charge up your cellphone while walking around.

So far, he's simply been pretty derivative of two English designers he very marginally worked for while atuniversityinLondon.

And it's not like he's done anything like the Japanese designers in the '80's and '90's (like Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo) - true innovation that shocked the fashionistas, didn't make any money but, damned, the stuff was interesting.

I really think the worse thing he can do to himself is puff up his self-perceived image of himself and not follow through. Better to be realistic than to make yourself out to be more of a big thing than you really are.

Like celebrities writing children's
books. Or mixing together perfume. Or crafting an exercise routine. Or home furnishings. Or cookbooks...
Makes one discouraged about our fellow humans who buy that stuff.

Exactamundo.

And besides, there is nothing relatable or even likeable about Posh or her lifestyle.

She's like The Donald: There is nothing there, under the hair. (He has failed in most of his licensing ventures as well).

It didn't strike me that there was anything particularly special about yet another line of jeans, so the fact that they're being pulled? yawwwwwnnnnnn

And Christian, again, Paris Hilton called - she wants her facial angle back. Baby finds himself in the horrible raggedy real world, poor thing, where people who made names for themselves in some other field (deservedly or not) put their names on things. Me so sad for poor baby PPS, working his publicity from PR.... Don't worry, you're now famous for winning a TV reality show, now, maybe you can build on that so you don't really have to create your own line of jeans either, and just have people do it for you and have maybe a 3/4 silhouette of your face and hairstyle on the back pocket or something? Call them CS Innovators? 'cause somebody will maybe believe it?

Guess I'm tired today. Gonna go outside and get a few deep breaths of midtown Manhattan Springtime air.

Jeez, some of you are really obsessed with Christian.

"Jeez, some of you are really obsessed with Christian."

Right... we hear you Christian-plant, a "glib" thought, to write that on a blog that HAS obsessed over Laura and others with more wattage.

Anonymous said...

I'm a "Christian plant?" Just because I point out that some of the commenters here are obsessed with him?

I think your response kind of proves my point.

How odd that people would be talking about Christian when he was the subject of the blog post. Surely it would make more sense for us to talk about someone who wasn't mentioned in this post.

Sheesh.

Actually, Posh is the subject of the post ("Vanity, thy name is Posh") and yet more than half the posts aren't about Posh or about what Christian had to say about "vanity" lines, but slams against what Christian looks like.

Again, you're kind of proving my point.

Posh looks like Xenu.
She is freaky and does nothing but walk around with pursed lips and sunglasses and shopping bags. She's a public warning against weight loss botox, breast implants, and colagen injections. At age 28..
Her jeans are banale. She is NOT a designer!!!
it pisses me off that legit designers like Narciso Rodriguez or back in the day Steven Sprouse could not get their lines afloat but some woman who can barely spell her own name and who probably can't thread a machine gets her "line" sold at Kitson or Segal.
I am over her. Not that I have ever been "into' her.
I agree with the Christian on pretty much everything...
The only "celebrity" fashion line I like is L.A.M.B.
Love,
Milla

Poor, Posh. She probably hasn't invested any time or effort in marketing or promoting her jeans because she realized what a mistake she'd made in thinking that she could design America's greatest line of jeans. Silly girl. I'd heard about her line of jeans and have heard "celebrity endorsements," but nary a word from the little people or consumers. She probably wound up having to give them away to celebs and simply distanced herself from the project.

It seems like a line of luxury denim would be a bad idea, given the current economic climate.

Didn't Heidi launch a line of jeans? And I guess after reading this article I understand why she wore them to the PR finale this year, even though they looked totally out of place--that should teach Posh a thing or two about commitment.

How are Mme. Klum's clothes doing?

Victoria needs to NOT exist. I mean, seriously, what has she done aside from shopping her entire life?

FashionFanatic said...

Christian is FIERCE and I love him etcetera etcetera, BUT he needs to learn when to keep his mouth shut. Not good PR, Princess! You might later need the same people you trash today.

FashionFanatic said...

By the way, it's funny to see Posh wearing jeans; anything for le cash, I suppose.

Anonymous said...

The word that got me was 'longevity.' Does he really think that his styles have this quality?

Anonymous said...

As the fug girls said about Heidi Montag, apparently the only qualification you need to design a clothing line is a face that's appeared on TV or in a magazine. It's pathetic.

Anonymous said...

It's rumored that Victoria Beckham will be hooking up with designer Roland Mouret to design a whole line of fug. Watch what happens!

Anonymous said...

I tried them on, nothing to write home about, besides, they're seriously overpriced and unlike other famous brands most of the stuff is made in China.

Rainwood said...

To demonstrate I'm not obsessed with Christian, I'd just like to say that I'm in favor of world peace. And whirled peas. I'm sure Posh is with me on this except maybe not the peas. They're not only a food, they're a starch.

As you know. In Fashion; one day you're in . . . .

Are those bedazzled bellbottoms by dVb?

We should be surprised they're not selling?????? ;)

sage--
they need MORE bedazzling to sell well.

and a different store (kmart,walmart).

can PPS look human for once in a photo--
I wonder what the albums at his Mom's house look like...

Anonymous said...

Did she design those bellbottoms? Totally out, no wonder they aren't selling. And she doesn't look good in them. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything she "designed"

Anonymous said...

hey - I'll admit it - I am obsessed with Christian - that's what led me to my new obsession - Tom an Lorenzo -

TLoves, please don't feel the need to follow up on celebs who have been hit-and-run PR judges in the Rungay blog. I can't avoid stories about the Poshstick on the rest of the internet; please don't feel that it's necessary here as well.

You're not going to do any Tiki Barber stories anytime soon, right? I mean, I'll pay you not to. Seriously.

The exception would be SJP. I don't care if her line is any good or not, I just luvs her. More!

(That's the beauty of power. You can weild it as arbitrarily as you like!)

Look, all I can say is, like the mullet, I hope the puffy sleeves come in and go out, never to be repeated. I love PPS's creativity and everything, but If i step onto a bus and see 30 girls all wearing tights with a big poofy top, there will be hell to pay. Its not sexy, or mature looking, its just different.

Perhaps Posh is on the phone to her dry cleaner to find out how to remove those paint splotches she has all over her pants.

Anonymous said...

She looks ridiculous in that outfit. She always looks like she's trying too hard. The woman has next to no taste . . . why would she be able to design anything anyone wants to wear.

Anonymous said...

Posh doesn't just look thin, she looks ill. For that matter, what the hell happened to Helen Hunt? Has anyone seen her lately? She used to be so pretty. Someone please get these ladies a sandwich.
