Hard Working Man

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 by
Well, Rami may not have won Project Runway, but he's working that tight little ass like he did.

First up, the Spring/Summer 2008 collection that he put together at the same time he was doing his Fall 2008 Bryant Park collection for Project Runway:

It's very L.A. Simple shapes and silhouettes with little embellishment but draping galore. There are some pretty looks here. We still kinda wish he'd move into a different color palette, though.

Plus, his exposure on PR has made him quite the hot little commodity on the red carpet:

It seems like at least once a week, some little starlet is wearing a Kashou in front of photographers. Good for him. We don't completely get behind his aesthetic, but if there's one thing it is, it's red carpet-ready.

And finally, for all of you Kashou Nuts out there who want to own a piece of the man, there's this:

"Project Runway finalist Rami Kashou, will design an exclusive look for the one year anniversary show of Scoop Style on HSN. The show will air on May 15th at 1:30am-2:00am and 10pm-12am. Kashou will make a special appearance on that day, which follows two consecutive Scoop Style on HSN sell-out shows. Kashou’s dress highlights the designer’s draping expertise with a rayon-blend fabric, available in black, rich peacock, lime pop and vintage sea foam for $280.00."

Save those quarters now, ladies! You could be draped Rami-style!

Hard-working, indeed! I like the color palette here very much (though I was less taken with the blue and red of the PR collection).

Those dresses are so short, the only place I could wear one would be to my next gynecological exam.

This collection looks similar to the three piece mini collection that he did for the "on line" challenge.
I would like to see some of these with a little bit longer skirts, but I guess his clients like the super short, to show off their fine legs.
He is a very hard worker,to get a collection out so soon after the show. I hope he finds a backer, he deserves it.

Gorgeous collection! I love the colors and shapes. Congrats, Rami!

Rami is extremely talented. I'm glad he's getting the attention he deserves. I can't wait to see the HSN dress.

hey guys, I think there's a lot to look at in Rami's red carpet dresses, could you post the pics individually so we can see them better? and also see who wore them? I see some fugly that deserves more scrutiny! :-) (do I see a gigantic green flourshon?)

I was hoping we'd seen the last of the babydoll silhouette.

But one thing made me very happy/sad about this post: You published all those red carpet looks looking like Polaroids. Or I should say: The sadly soon to be extinct Polaroids.

Sigh.

Listen, boys. When I open up my Google Reader and see that you're talking about Rami, I expect to click through and see at least one shot of Rami's hot bod and bald head that's just BEGGING to be . . . (and so forth)

But no, just a bunch of pictures of skinny girls in short skirts.

And I agree with Patsy Stone up there that these skirts are way too short. They remind me of Cindy Brady in the first season. Otherwise they're beautiful. That last blue one is very Roaring 20s.

His dresses are very elegant and feminine. The kind of dresses most women would like to wear; I would love to own a couple myself.

I LOVE RAMI! He's hot, talented, and a sweetheart!

There are some very pretty pieces in this collection. I particularly like the first and second ones, but many of them are so short they look like swimsuit cover-ups to me. And the mustard yellow has got to go.

I second that motion! I would particularly like to see the yellow one with the ruffles, the red print, and the black full skirt at the bottom of the pile (if it's not too much trouble).

Bill said...

I'm with Patsy Stone - some of them are very hoochie mama in length.

I'm sorry. Rami seems to be a nice enough guy and all, and he's certainly easy on the eyes, but I hate his clothes. They seem to be all about him and his draping skills, and do nothing for the female body. That's why his dresses have to be short--otherwise, they'd completely overwhelm the body.

Kanani said...

Rami is Dita Von Teese's favorite designer. She wears a lot of his dresses.

I think if we wore skirts that short, we'd all have to get personal assistants to pick things up for us.

"rich peacock" in my mind is dangerously close to Barbara-Bush-menopausal-blue.

Ms_flyover said...

I guess its just a matter of taste - I don't dislike his clothes (and there are a lot of looks out there on celebs that trigger my WTF reflex), but I don't get Wow-ed by them either. On the bright side, anyone wearing a Kashou is unlikely to be in the "what was she thinking" section of an entertainment rag.

My midwestern opinion aside, its nice to see that he's doing well.

The short length is a look, certainly not for everyone, but a look seen quite often in LA. I like it!

Rami was one of my favorite designers on the show. I would wear all the clothes he designed on project runway. He's a great designer.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't the third look very similar to the 'ready to wear' piece Sweet P did for the 'en garde' challenge both in terms of silhouette and color?

Anonymous said...

guys,
thanks so much for sending the link to the red carpet dresses....
some of them: oy!!!!!! the green dress with the giant flourchon is hideous! and one yellow dress with purple belt worn by Fergie is a disaster! (although I never like what she wears). Interestingly there is another dress that Fergie worn that is very very similar to the avant garde dress that Christian and Chris won (does anybody else see the resemblence too? I wonder when he did that dress).

Sewing Siren said...

Thanks T Lo and Lilithcat. Rami can really work the ruffle as well as the drape. I absolutely love the black and white outfit that Tita Von Teese is wearing, extremely flattering to her. He dresses Fergie nicely, too. I also think the green one with the giant fabric flower is fab... and the coffee colored one with the underarm drape that the opera singer is wearing.

Anonymous said...

ColinC,
you're right on!!! it totally does!!! maybe he thought that by adding a horrible belt it would hide the resemblance :-)

Anonymous said...

Totally off-topic, but boys, I hope you're going to reprint your quotes from The New York Observer! Just perusing my on-line copy today and see you quoted!

kisses and hugs, you media whores, you!

But back to the topic. The minis are just too mini, they don't look attractive. I'm thinking of all the crotch shots from our favorite sweet young "superstars," since apparently nothing is to be more abhorred than a pantyline - are we never to be spared?

Anonymous said...

Personally, I'm very much over the babydoll silhouette trend and would very much like to see what follows. It's all starting to look the same.

Nice collection with a much improved selection of colors. And very, very LA. ITA: Matt Algren posted the "Thindy Bwady" comparison.

P.S. "Kashou Nuts..." Good one, TLO!

Yes, I noticed that too. But there is no date on the photo. The photo is from US magazine and the caption says that it is at a pre-MTV awards party in Miami. The MTV awards were held in Miami in 2004 and 2005, I *think*. I do not believe that Rami would intentionaly copy another designer.
As to the resemblance of the short gown in his current collection to the one Sweet P did for the Avant Garde challenge. Both Rami and Sweet P had done similar gowns in previous collections. I don't think he copied her, nor did she copy him. They were just working in the same wave length.

Rami is the best designer Project Runway ever had!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Rami's clothes are the best to me because all women can wear his designes. Larger size women such as myself can wear a beautifully draped dress.

kath said...

The dresses are cute, but they just cross over the line into too short. Add an inch or two and they're fine. The look is very LA, which is what he wants. Good for him. He's talented, ambitious, and most of all, hard working. He has this window of opportunity to capitalize on his Project Runway fame so he needs to make the best use of it now. I hope he does well.

The collection has a "Lolita" feel to me and not in a good way. What the hell is up with the fourth outfit - it looks like the dress is riding up the model's ass. Not sure if that is how it's draped or a result of the column humping.

The second dress in the red carpet collection looked very similar to Jillian's dress with the silver detail at the bottom from her runway collection.

The dress you are refering to was in Rami's Fall/Winter Evening 07 collection, which would have already been completed before the auditions for season 4.

"vintage sea foam" -- now there's a euphemism if ever I heard one.

But he is showing some growth in the color department, so I'll give him that. But I, too, must echo Ms. Patsy Stone's observation: For about half of those minis, I thought they were tops missing their bottoms.

I thought they were on their way to a Shirley Temple convention, and forgot their tap shoes.

I like some of the red carpet dresses but I'm sorry, some of them are hideous. There is a white one that is awful and has the "lovely" gladiator shoes of an earlier post!

I want to like his collection, but still just don't. It just seems so boring and DONE. I want to see something fresh and new! Babydoll dresses - yawn. Solid color draped dresses - yawn. As for the colors of his HSN dress... vintage sea foam (?) ... just smells ugly to me.

his stuff looks great! and as for the mustard yellow--and several of his color choices--i think we have to look at it next to the right skin tone. on the right model, it would look fabulous.

looks like he's been really successful! the question is, how many of those clothes were designed and purchased before pr? we knew he had already established himself as a red carpet designer, albeit a small one.

Rami. Honey.

Hemlines are meant to go PAST one's hoo-hah, not show it off.

I never knew Rami was behind that awful yellow and green dress that has been seen on Fergie Ferg and Tyra. Ew!

But, I love that second dress on his page, the black and silver number on that cute little brunette (don't know her name).

I also love the collection.

Even if my legs were as gorgeous as the models sporting these dresses, I still wouldn't want to wear a skirt that short!

I live in a very windy city! I'd get arrested for flashing!

What is it with all the gynecological air conditioning?
Covering your privates is NOT "ageing" and knees are not pretty body parts.
It seems like everyone mostly does short dresses and skirts. He has two past the thigh.
Drafting a collection right now and NOT a single mini or short dress is planned. And it's very LA too. We just cater to different parts of LA. I am punk, ghothy skully fierce Gwen Stefani/Clint Catalyst-style LA and he is OC/ BH/ Robertson teen hoochie celeb or mother that wants to look like teen hoochie celeb- LA. But I actually love his draping and totally respect his skill though.
Love,
Milla

Some of the dresses are adorable, I only wish he would try some more and different colours. There's nothing wrong with colours Rami ;)

I'm not sure what it is with Rami's clothes but I really would love to wear some of this stuff. And I don't care that this time the dresses are very short, I always loved mini skirts and dresses.

These looks have so much more spirit & life! to them than his PR collection. There's a very sweet vibe going on here.

I like Rami, though his clothes aren't my thing. I hope this means he's found a financial partner.

He does seem very busy indeed! The finalists always seem to make a splash (my fav bar LOL!)
I like the new collection. It's very pretty, feminine, easy, wearable and looks affordable.

Good for Rami!
OK, Kashou Nut signing off...

Short is super hot, young and in!

I saw that Kelly Ripa wore the white dress in black on the Regis and Kelly Show last week.

I'm hoping to find it and buy one! It's perfect for summer.

I loved the dress Kelly wore by Rami too, I was at a boutique in Nyc and saw it.. very beautiful in person..
as for the red carpet looks.. I LOVE many of them.. I can't wear all of them but there are some that I am all about! Mini dresses are hot if you have nice legs.. so if you got it, why not flaunt it?

The recent red carpet press and new collection are fabulous and so is Rami.
I'm such a fan of his work.
He's an enormous, unique and rare talent.

Rayon blend? Ew. I'm usually not this b**chy, but what's wrong with silk and lycra?

Plus, why does the whole spring line seem to be the length Twiggy wore -- when she was, like, 16? It's supposed to be a dress, not a headband.

"available in black, rich peacock, lime pop and vintage sea foam"

Not all at once, I hope.

I just can't get over the irony that some of those girls are in those dresses, literally hanging off walls...

...they could have had two stand on either side of a window to complete the joke.

I still have problems with his color choices, and of course the chronic you-know-what-ing.

Drapey, Drapey, Drapey...
