Congratulations Princess Puffysleeves!

Well! Was that not a FABULOUS finale or what? For all the (occasional bouts of) boredom this season induced in us, we have to say, those bitches really BROUGHT IT for the big wrapup. And how refreshing that the judges made a decision that, while it wouldn't have been OUR first choice for the win, was nonetheless a choice with which we have no problem. In fact, we kept nodding our heads and saying "Yes! Yes!" under our breath because for once, the judges were all on their game and we agreed with practically everything they said about each designer.

Princess, your collection was stunning and your tears on the runway so endearing that even the "haters" fell a little in love with you tonight. Brava, darling.

As for us, we are wiped the hell OUT, poodles. We had a fabulous time at the party and immensely enjoyed the dirty looks we got from some of the designers. We will, of course, have PUH-LENTY to say in the days to come, but for now, these two fabulous bitches are heading home and heading to bed.

And yes, darlings. That really was us you saw for a split second sitting behind the judges. You can bet your sweet asses we'll have a screencap of that in a day or two.

I'll have to wait until I see pictures (not in a slideshow) of the collections, but my impression of Rami's collection was that his color story... wasn't really a story. It seemed disjointed, and took away to how cohesive the silhouettes might've been.

Overall, I had the weakest immediate gut reaction to his collection. I'm a Jillian fan, but I like Rami as a person/designer/character on the show (:P) more than Christian, so I don't think it was based on who I expected to like.

Even when he's bawling he's fierce! Love ya Princess, and nobody deserved that prize more than you!

And Tim...Tim is my idol. Could he be any more of a sweetheart? Nope!

Was that Christian's dad standing next to Christian smiling in the photo with Tim? Because Christian looks just like him.

I think Posh is in her early thirties.

Congrats to PPS, he did have the most cohesive collection (whether you liked or not).

I just think that it was too bad that Jillian got the boot before Rami, it should have been the other way around!

As the youngest designer of the bunch, Christian's win is all the sweeter, since it's helping to launch his career... even if he annoyed the heck out of me once or twice this season.

I definitely think that Jillian should have been #2 if only for the risks she took. Rami's collection was too safe and old-lady for this competition.

so happy for christian. the only complaint i had about his collection is that i wished he could have used some muted colors to make it pop. i understand he wanted to go dark, but he could have used some deep maroon, navy, aubergine, brown, or gray along with the black.

jillian's collection was not cohesive and actually not too attractive as a whole, imo. rami's collection was a little uneven; if all of his garments had been as fabulous as his evening gowns, i would have rooted for him.

Another few things in case Bravo reads these comments...

What was with the use of the reg models? The best thing about past shows was the use of thire reg season models in the last, most dramatic outfits?
It was like the final "wow" moment.
this year their reg models all were in the middle. No drama at all. really took away from the effect in my mind cause we are familiar with these models after all season and want to see them in the last hurrah of the shows!

And no tim hardly...AGAIN...SIGH
Past shows had Tim in the workroom 3 or more times..looking at collections, mentoring fittings and finishing touches, more backstage stuff with Tim on the day of show...and more past designers talking about the shows they just saw...

i'm left so sad because unlike last year, this year really had the FUN, personalities, fun Tim moments and fashion drama that they just left out. There was no nasty ugly last season stuff, this coulda been another season 2 if they hadn't dropped the ball and left the guts of the show we want to see on the cutting room floor.

Bravo...u broke my heart this time around...PR and Top chef were my fav shows of all time and you seem to be dead set on totally ruining them both, turning them into boring yawn fests ( season 3 top chef, 4 of PR) or ugly low class mean drama ( season 2 top chef, 3 of PR)

so happy Christian won. loved his personality from day 1. wouldn't wear his clothes, but they are beautiful & high-fashion-y. Also, seeing him cry/nervous was like a break in the inside joke that is Christian. People thought he was arrogant, I think he wanted to prove he deserved to be there. & when he was about to, he was overwhelmed.

I was rooting for Jillian, b/c her stuff is wearable. However, Project Runway is not about finding the "most wearable designer,"(in which case Sweet P should still be in) it's about finding the "next great American designer".

Rami is not raw talent. He was on the show only for the exposure, he already has a business. Jillian & Christian could benefit the most. Jillian didn't put on a show. Clothes were good, but not dramatic and didn't tell a story. But she will go far!

Also, can Tim Gunn be my personal cheerleader? I loved seeing him so proud.

I'll volunteer why I don't think Posh was a good choice for judging the finale. To me, she's a fashionista rather than a style icon. She ends up on the fashion don't list a lot and rightfully so. She has a certain look to what she wears - short, tight skirts or tight, tight pants and tight tops with poufy sleeves. Sound like anyone we know?

And it was clear from her own comments that she was judging based on what she would most want to wear. Michael Kors criticized Laura Bennett last year for only designing things she would wear. Victoria Beckham was the judge equivalent of that and we already had one of those - Heidi. So that's why I don't think she should have been there for the finale. Have it be another designer or Fern Mallis again - someone who has a wider view of fashion than her own mirror.

I will agree that she has a hot husband though. Yum.

According to Wikipedia, quoting People, Posh's birthday is April 17th, 1974. I've no idea how old her parts are. ;)

SHE ROCKS AND KNOWS HER SHIT. WHO CARES ABOUT CELEBRITY JUDGES, REALLY?
WELL NOT ME AT LEAST

At least Jillian didn't win. I don't think she even deserved to be in the top 3. Chris March should have been in her spot. I was so happy when Heidi said, "Jillian, you are out"

I was rooting for Jillian myself. I thought hers was a very interesting collection and the most approachable. I know that may have doomed it.

I wasn't a bit fan of PPS's collection, it was very narrowly focused, but he put on a show to hide that fact. Plus I do Think Posh being in his corner and wanting to wear it was a huge factor. I don't think there was one bit of neutrality in her desicion making process.

Plus why did all his pants have huge silver zippers? Sure teh tops were amazing, but the first thing you noticed was this bright silver zipper.

...and you think the other judges had neutrality too? BS! The judges have been biased in one way or another all season, why start being objective now.

Ok, being the obsessed TLo Fan that I am, I just went through their appearance on the finale show frame by frame and counted.

They appear in a total of 69 frames. And, it appears that T may be speaking on a cell phone with Lo watching? I haven't spotted any other sightings but am looking through this now w/ a fine toothed remote.

Anonymous said...

I must be blind, because I kept looking for them in the audience and I never saw them.

katiecoo said...

I'm sure they'll make a post and/or screen capture on it but I can tell you they are for sure in the scene where Ninagarciaofellemagazine is taking her seat. Right before the start of the show. :) 3rd row and to the right. Michael Kors sits back and reveals T's head and Lo is leaning forward looking at him. It's a bit of a needle in a haystalk but I was in full stalker mode.

I would imagine all the models of wearing the exposed zippers are thanking their lucky stars that they had Brazilians done prior to the show.

The show lost credibility for me for the season as an entirety, not just one episode.

- One competitor in the final disregarded the rules for a challenge and stayed around. Ask Kaynebow if that's fair.

- An auf'd competitor gets brought back, which is fine, especially in the context of the challenge. But with no restrictions or qualifications? Ask Angela and Vincent if that's fair. I like Chris and I don't begrudge him the success he had, but it doesn't seem appropriate that he could re-enter a competition when he'd already been eliminated.

- The judges have for 4 seasons talked about personality and pleasing clients and then keep a competitor on hand who not only created a totally inappropriate dress for the client but treated her like shit in the process. Ask Malan how that is, or even Nora. Both of whom got auf'd for the garment when they tried to please the client (Malan failed, Nora's was pleased as punch. But in both cases, they tried to be nice.) (Of course, I thought Jeffrey should've gone over how he treated Angela's mother last year.)

I didn't say I'd stop watching. I said it lost credibility. It wasn't one thing, but several. Now back to work for me.

Dear Christian:

You were the best designer during the entire show, and definitely you had the BEST COLLECTION. I loved it. The final dress was truly amazing.

Congratulations!

Unless I was in a complete delirium, I think Jillian sent this thing down the runway that looked like a pair of high-waisted, translucent, pleated palazzo pants...topped with a breastplate. Anyone else remember this? It was, uh, weird.

I'm glad Christian won. I thought his collection was beautiful, dramatic and out-there (in a good way). And, as much as I hate to use this word, I think he's kind of a genius.

"I'm go going on a little vacay. I need a little breaky-break." That was just awesome. But seriously, though, coming from him, I get the feeling that "a little breaky-break" will last something like a week...and then it's back to his little box of an apartment to live/breathe/bleed high-fashion again.

It's amazing how different my perception was after seeing the collections in motion. Still photos just don't do any of the clothes justice.

Anyway, going in to the evening I actually thought everyone was fairly even, although I gave Jillian the edge. I felt the same after watching the first two collections come down the runway. I love almost everything Jillian sent down an dwas surprised at how much I HATED almost everything of Rami's.

But I admit that I actually gasped several times during Christian's show. Watching all the models in his show walk out together I really felt that he was the clear winner (although my personal tastes still lean toward Jillian).

Wrong! I was wrong. I just checked the pictures on Bravo. It wasn't a breastplate, it was some sort of bustier with gold trim. And that wasn't a pair of palazzo pants, but a long pleated skirt. But it still looked weird.

There were actually a couple of clunkers in Jillian's set, now that I got a second look. Funnily enough, I think those are the only pieces that I can't see her wearing herself.

Well, it's all over but the cryin'.

I agree with an earlier comment about Posh not being a good judge. She's a good consumer. Not the same.

I don't agree with Christian's win and no, his tears didn't make me fall in love with him even just a little bit. But beyond that....

Were most people truly surprised that he won? I think that's my main beef. I knew who would win long before the first model walked down the runway. The judging is always suspect, but this year it was just so plain and so obvious who the favorites were.

For me, the finale was boring. I suspect it was exciting for TLo because they were actually there. For me at home on the couch, it was nice but zero excitement.

Anonymous said...

That was a wonderful finale. I think Jillian had some great, original pieces, but still hasn't found her real artistic voice. Maybe her incessant whining drowns it out. As for Christian, his collection wasn't perfect (too repetitive), and I don't even like puffy sleeves, but something about his runway show grabbed me and I knew he was the one. Rami has talent, but I don't think he's interested in influencing fashion so much as fine-tuning what's already there. In the future, how about the producers don't even let people that established on the show? He just didn't care enough about being on the show, just savvily thought it was a way for people to learn his brand.

Anonymous said...

Extraordinary talent, congrats CHRISTIAN SIRIANO!

After seeing his collection, I vowed that if he was not the winner, PR would be over for me.

Have to say that I really don't get the love for Rami.
BORING.

Jillian had some fabulous pieces, especially the knits but her dresses...fit and design were disappointing. Should have been in 2nd place though.

This season had it's ups and downs, but overall it was good. I think the judges are more biased than ever.

They really need to auf Kors and Garcia. Actually Heidi too, but it's kinda her show, so I don't think Heidi or Tim would ever leave unless the show is cancelled.

Next year they need more Gunn and maybe 2 new judges to replace Kors and Garcia. Someone said Fern Maillis, I think she would be good and then maybe Zac Posen or Todd Oldham.

But the Duchess and Ms Frizzy Hair need to go, they are too jaded by the process and they label contestants based on first appearance and never change their minds.

Also next season, I wish they would not let "professionals" be on the show, like Rami. Someone who has their own shop already shouldn't be there. They should have all raw, fresh talent that really need to make a start.

Anonymous said...

I probably don't need to point this out--you guys catch everything--but just in case you somehow missed it, please do a screencap of the judging where Ninagarcia critizes Jillian and Jillian pretends to scratch her chin but really gives Ninagarcia the bird. Priceless!!

Well Ms Kyle, I guess Ms Rami didn't win. So sorry for you and your loss.

as i said in an earlier post, i can't completely disagree with the outcome last night, but i've been thinking ---- if chris march had sent several of the things down the runway that christian did (the feather dress, the brown/beige all ruffle thing, the ruffled jabot that obscured the model's face) i'm willing to bet that the judges would have been all over him for being "too costumey"...i agree that high fashion is not all about marketability, but this one really irks me.

i was very disappointed that jillian was eliminated before rami. i agree that her collection was not as cohesive as it could have been and i didn't go "WOW" when i saw it, but i think all of her pieces were good, whereas there were several in rami's that i thought were fug.

can't wait to see tlo's additional commentary in the upcoming days/weeks. thanks boys!

Congratulations to PPS/Totegay!! It was a fiercely fabulous collection.

Now I think PPS needs to take his "Va-Cay" to Madrid and go to the Prado to really soak up a bit of Velasquez and Goya for even more 18th cent. Spanish inspiration! Maybe Posh can accompany him; she lived there for a while. Do you think she made it to the Prado?

If he is going to stick with the high-end stuff, rather than the more commercial, he should seek some advice from the Dutchess on client skills. You know Kors has client skills; he's dressed J-Lo.

If a determined Prom Princess can inspire a Puffysleeves Princess to create an 80s thrift store reject, well then, imagine the wilting Puffysleeves with design direction coming from a millionairess fashionista, Posh.

I say our Princess should stick with his own visions as inspired by the Old Masters. That trip to the MMA served him well!

"Perhaps because of his upbringing, Rami uses a palette that someone with a Middle Eastern background would be attracted to?"

Sorry, but there is nothing about that color selection that is inherently Middle Eastern. Yes, Rami is Arab, and that may influence his design style some, and I think in definitely hurt him at point (i.e. the prom challenge, the boy has never been to a prom!), but those colors aren't typically Arab, or anything.

Anonymous said...

Yes! It's so hard to believe that someone so young as Christian is packed with that much talent and ability. He totally rocked that show and deserved the win!

Anonymous said...

I disagree with everyone who says that Jillian and Rami were robbed. In terms of the scope of the types of clothing they made, they were wider than Christian, yes. However, that's not what the runway show is about; the final runway challenge isn't about "I can make sweaters, jackets, pants, skirts, day dresses, evening dresses, etc." That is what the previous episodes were all about: can you make meanswear, wrestlerwear, etc. The final challenge is about the art of a "collection" and if these designers can execute the art of a "collection."

That said, I think both Rami and Jillian were inferior in capturing the art of a "collection" in comparison to Christian. My main problem with Rami's collection is he spread himself too thin; the cohesion was minimalized by his ambition to show the judges all the different things he can do. Jillian deserves similar criticism. I think that my eye had a difficult time moving from one outfit to the next because both Rami and Jillian had a weak sense of progression and how to do so in a logical manner. They approached the final challenge as "show everything I can ever do." This reasoning is faulty in my opinion. You wouldn't want to show everything you could ever do on a single article of clothing and you wouldn't in a collection.

In defense of Christian, I think there was a point to the number of black outfits in the beginning of the collection. I think that, when that piece with the cream neckpiece came out on the runway, it was a visual shock because of all of the all-black pieces that had preceeded it. I think that the way Christian created interest was ingenious, subtle, and aesthetically pleasing.

My argument is that the relationship between the outfits between Jillian and Rami's collections was much weaker than Christian's, which is why Christian deserved to win.

Anonymous said...

I was very happy for Christian. Although it was repetitive, he put on a fabulous show that was nonetheless--fierce. He did what a true designer would do for a runway show. Fashion week isn't necessarily about clothing people would actually wear, it's more about innovative looks and pieces that are well crafted as a whole. Christian did this. Jilian had a collection that many women would love to wear. It fit well, looked expensive, and was well crafted. If Christian didn't win, I would say she should be next in line. Rami did listen to the judges, and he tried new techniques, but his collection fell short in my opinion. Some of the colors of his outfits were hideous. The only things that I truly enjoyed were his evening gowns--the gorgeous black one in particular. Other than that, his collection was lacking in my eyes. I didn't find his works very appealing. Nonetheless, Christian has a tremendous amount of talent, and I hope to see more from him. I also hope that Rami and Jilian are able to jumpstart their career as well. They both have talented designs as well.

At least I won't have to hear "Fierce" again in a long time (not going to do the reruns). But the kid is talented and I doubt if she will fade away like the other "winners" did. The folks who got "Aufed" from past seasons are higher profile.

I do not understand what all this nonsense is about not liking Rami's colors . At least 3 actresses wore teal to the Sag awards, including a lovely Monique L'huillier worn by Marcia Cross, a Calvin Klein worn by Jamie Lyn Sigler and a Marchesa worn by Amanda Bynes(designed by the girlfriend of Harvey Weinstein, PR producer). Galliano used plenty of jewel tones, including teal, deep mustard and red, in his Fall 2008 collection. We just saw red all over the Oscars. I liked Rami's more sophisticated deep cranberry tone.

Color goes in cycles, ask Pantone. Jewel tones are back. To me Rami's colors looked a little bit 1940s with those drab almost military mustardy-tones, mixed with the jewel tones. Look at the lineup of all his girls on the runway... looks like a 40s movie to me. I liked his colors.

Color is a personal thing, but as much as I loved Christian's collection, I could have used the relief of a bit of color. Besides, as Kors pointed out, it's hard to see the detail with all black.

Color was hardly a reason to discount Rami. Why if most of the fashion world seems to be heading one way, is Project Runway heading the other way? And that, based on a few off-hand subjective comments.

My only comment: Heidi Klum has never seen fabric strips woven together to create texture? Michael Kors thought the technique was some kind of fabulous innovation? What the hell? It was beautifully done and worked well, but jesus, people. Get a grip. Or get some idea of fashion history beyond your own particular milieu...

I was delighted that Christian won. He's young and has LOTS of maturing ahead of him, but he showed he developed a bit of humility when he prepared and showed his collection. He's funny too.

Not at all surprised that Mrs. Becks was all a dither about Christian's clothing. She will have a wardrobe full of his designs in no time.

I agree with the post from Stubenville noting that Rami's cultural background comes into play with his color choices (which I fine fascinating because they are different). The judges seem very unaware of anything outside Manhattan. Then again - they say they want color and then reward the funeral march.

I preferred the collections for Sweat Pea, Rami, Chris and Jullian to Christian's. I just saw a very young kid making outfits that he thinks are artistic and edgy - and rather repetitive - not ones that really reflect a unique point of view but YMMV.

Since Posh was picked as a judge - I assume it was to make sure the guest was in favor of the perceived wonder kid. In the long run - the others may actually benefit more from not winning. In fact, I really wonder if Rami wanted to win or just be a finalist. He gets the exposure without the strings.
