Bring it, bitches - Part Drei

Steven Rosengard

Tom: I thought this was really cute.
Lorenzo: Me too. I liked the symmetry and the neutral colors. Simple and elegant.
Tom: It's something Samantha Stevens would wear when Larry and Louise Tate are coming over for drinks.

Tom: Yeah...no. It's like a goth wedding dress.
Lorenzo: The fit is horrible.
Tom: The proportions are horrible.
Lorenzo: I was going to say that but you can say that. I hate the tulle.
Tom: Generally, tulle should only be worn by 8 year-olds at dance recitals.

Lorenzo: I don't even know what to say to that.
Tom: YOW. Scrolling down and looking at all three entries, it's like watching a fashion train go off the rails.
Lorenzo: This thing was HUGE on the runway.
Tom: Huge and ugly.
Lorenzo: I wanna see this bitch get in or out of a cab in that.
Tom: Well, she'd have no problem hailing one. She'd be visible from about 4 blocks away.
Lorenzo: And why is she wearing sun-dried tomatoes around her neck?

Kit (Just Kit, like Madonna or Cher)

Lorenzo: I kind of like it.
Tom: I can't see much in this picture and I'm old and can't remember what it looked like in person. I vaguely remember that I hated the gloves.
Lorenzo: I like the silhouette, I think the gloves and the tights ruin it. There's too much black going on.

Tom: Bye-bye mein lieber Herr.
Lorenzo: It's cute.
Tom: No, I agree. Not so much on the puffy collar thing, though.

Lorenzo: I don't know what the hell she was thinking.
Tom: Oh, it's obvious. Bob Mackie S&M Hooker Superhero, of course!

Christian Siriano

Lorenzo: Vivienne Westwood ripoff.
Tom: That about sums it up. So done.

Tom: That's cute.
Lorenzo. Yeah, I like it very much.
Tom: Nice silhouette and proportions.
Lorenzo: Ruching's tough to pull off -
Tom: - especially that much of it.
Lorenzo: - but it fits her so well and the ruching doesn't take away from that.

Tom: I don't mind it, but the Boy George hat has GOT to go.
Lorenzo: I think it was nicely tailored. I was distracted by the scarf and hat.
Tom: I'm not sure about that...stuff around the lapel area.
Lorenzo: I get it. He's "irreverent," but ... please.

Sweet P

Lorenzo: I like it but I don't like the tights.
Tom: Tights are in. You're going to have to -- wait, are those socks she's wearing?
Lorenzo: YES!
Tom: Oh. No. Absolutely not. The dress is cute, though.
Lorenzo: Yeah, I like it.
Tom: I love the colors.
Lorenzo: And the scarf is a nice touch.

Tom: I don't know. It's cute but it looks a little tablecloth-y.
Lorenzo: Because we have a tablecloth we bought for Thanksgiving 6 years ago that looks like that.
Tom: True.
Lorenzo: I kinda like it, but I go back and forth.
Tom: It's the sleeves. I think they look disproportionate. They should be cap sleeves.

Lorenzo: I like it.
Tom: Feh. It's cute but I hate light sheer fabrics over black. It always looks like a mistake.
Lorenzo: I like the detail on the bodice. Hate the fishnets, though.

Carmen Webber

Lorenzo: HATE IT. Hate everything.
Tom: Really? I liked it.
Lorenzo: I hate the bling.
Tom: She's got too much going on in the accessorizing, but just looking at the shorts and the top, I like it.
Lorenzo: I hate the colors. I hate that the shorts and the sleeves are puffy and cinched at the same time.
Tom: I like the colors. Although I agree that the puffy shorts are a bit much.

Lorenzo: Ew.
Tom: It's a velour Hefty Cinch Sack.
Lorenzo: I can't. I just...can't. It's like...aggressively ugly.
Tom: I remember seeing it up close and all that ribbing at the cuffs and the waist looked like she ripped it off some other pieces and stapled it onto a velour track suit.

Lorenzo: I like the look, sort of.
Tom: I kinda love this. Little Plaid Riding Hood.
Lorenzo: I think the sleeves are wrong.
Tom: Maybe. but I like the way it sweeps out like a dress and I love the fabric and color. Not so much on the hood.
Lorenzo: Or the patterned tights. I admit, it looks better in the picture than it did on the runway.

Steven Rosengard--wasn't he one of the rejected applicants profiled in the S3 Road to the Runway? I didn't recognize his photo; I remembered him being a lot cuter.

Looking at Carmen's second look, all that comes to mind is:

LUPE!

I think's its the "agressively ugly" thing in that awful green.

Bob Mackie S&M Hooker Superhero bwahaha!

Christian isn't such a big deal, huh? I predict he'll be out by week 2. He's this year's overconfident weeney.

Gawd, that hat is an offense against nature!

Carmen's coat was my favorite piece at this show.
I really enjoy the new format Tom said/Lorenzo said.. I feels like eavesdropping.

Anonymous,

I agree with you but I thought the first look was much more Lupe than the second. WAY too much going on and not attractive and crazy at the same time.

I thought the second group had the strongest offerings, this group was middle of the road and the first group were the weakest.

I didn't like Simone's, Elisa's, Marion's, Carmen's and Steven's collections.

Most boring was Elisa's. Didn't think it was a good choice to go with three looks in that drab fabric. But the worst by far was Simone's. Wasn't so much the sillhouettes I had an issue with, but the horrible colors and fabric choices. Just ugly no matter how well it was constructed.

The strongest for me are Jillian, Chris and Jack (all from the second group, go figure). I liked the looks and the craftsmanship.

The rest had at least one really good look but one bad look as well.

I'm no fashion expert so I can't judge on originality (like the Vivienne westwood ripoff) so I just base on what I like to look at. Also, didn't Christian work for westwood or something?

I already hate Carmen. I mean jesus! She should have been disqualified just for that velour thing.

The coat was giving a Paddington bear vibe. I kept wondering why Marilinda didn't take her hands out of the pockets.

i cant wait for the new season to start...

ok - sweet p - her clothes look homemade. like her models just sewed up the bedsheets an hour before showtime.

and i think there's a dead tie for absolute fugliness between the velour tracksuit knickers & the double-breasted bathing suit with the fringe leg warmers. the designers scored points for memorability, but DAMN!

i gotta give credit to christian for the nicely tailored pantsuit. the doofy hat nearly killed it, but the trousers fit perfectly.

and steven's stripey dress was clean and classic, but maybe a touch too long. chop off an inch or two & it would have been perfect.

*bwarf!* the velour hefty cinch sack looked like baby poop.

I feel the same way about Carmen's coat. I kinda love it, but I don't know why.

I hate plaid, and I hate teal, and I never wear hoods. But yet, it struck me - and I'd wear it if it was a different color, and fabric & didn't have a hood.

I loved that 3rd look of Christian's: The suit. But I couldn't figure out what the hell he was doing with those scarves.

And the HAT! It looked to me like a punch line: Like it was part of a gag in an old sitcom where, like maybe, Lucy was on her way to a fashion show and got her head stuck in an elevator door, and then she gets out just in the nick of time, and walks down the runway wearing that squashed hat. And of course Ricky is in the first row & mortified and takes her home and spanks her afterwards.

That is the only logical reason to wear that hat.

....and Sweet P. Oy, the woman suffers from some sort of hose affliction. Those looks were to be expected from the 40 year old woman whom we first met wearing knee socks & pig tails.

Call me kooky, but I think that there are only 2 acceptable reasons to wear pig tails & knee socks when you're past the age of 30:

1. It is Halloween.

2. The nurse is late with your thorazine.

That's it.

We agree completly about Steven's designs!
I found a similarity between the brown dress and Malan's "poop" dress for Tara Conner!

I'm trying to do what you guys are doing (very well may I say!) at my blog too.

Have a happy new season of Project Runway!!

Sharpen your claws, girls, it's killin' time.

On Steven Rosengard: I disagree on the first look. I sorta like it, but the length is unflattering on every woman in the known world, and with the ballet flats, ick. I like the colors and the fit.

Y'all are right on on everything else. I love Carmen's coat, too -- it's what Scottish princesses wear to run away from the castle at night, over the moors, to blend in with the village folk at the local tavern. (Put that Westie back in your pocket, my bonnie lass!)

As to Christian -- nice, but....Not edgy enough to be edgy, not wearable enough to be sportswear. The designer for law school students who want to "be different."

I'm completely underwhelmed. Everything is so ...not fresh. Let's hope these people get inspired by the challenges!

This will probably date me, but Carmen's velour # puts me in mind of the Funky Phantom. Dayum. Her 1st look was jaunty in a good way (but combining it w/ all the jewelry was too much!), the tailoring of the coat was 1st rate. Ms. Carmen seems a bit hood happy, I hope she's over it in time for the competish! Steven's 1st dress was gorge, I actually adored the 2nd look-- very going to the opera then to TOWN for drinks. The 3rd should be placed behind Underdog in the Macy's parade. Christian's oeuvre is quite derivative of-- Everyone: Westwood, Valentino, et al. Not impressed. Sweet P-- No. Just no.
Ditto Kit.

Again, not impressed with most of these looks. I wonder how much they had to put these "collections" together.

I like the Siskel-and-Ebert format. Two thumbs up!!

Yes, Steven Rosengard nearly put Nick to sleep during the S3 tryouts. In his bio video, he repeatedly referred to different areas of his house as places where "the magic happens."
Snore.

Given the quality of the fashion show, I'm beginning to doubt Tim's assertion that we have the "best group yet." They may be able to sew better, but I anticipate lots of over-designing and too-too cleverness.

Are you boys going to post your wishlist for season 4? Or predictions? Or just wait until the time ticks down and then lower the boom?

I don't know if I'm more excited for the show or the snark. Whichever, bring it on!

Anonymous said...

I'm feeling worried. Really really worried. If St. Tim hadn't said this group was the most talented yet ...

I'm just worried.

I like Christian's three outfits, and that's about it. Carmen's clothes are UGLY. From the preview I saw, it looks like she wears the same kind of clothing she designs. I already hate her. Sweet P's clothes are very boring, and I was excited to see Kit's designs, but it looks pretty amateur to me. I hope she does better on the show.

There are times when I think you two are sounding more and more like Fashion SWAT every day...

I still love that striped dress of Stephen's and I love that the model wore flats. I cannot cotton to barefeet on a runway, but, well, heels hurt. ow. But I understand that not everyone can rock Danskos and Birkies like I do. Pity the poor model. And Carmen's coat. I do love it. Perhaps all the more for the terrifying mess that came before it.

I so agree, if it was shorter, it would work. But am I the only one whose first thought of Steven's third look was "OPRAH"?

SWEET P ROCKS!!!! She's going to win the whole thing.

Anonymous said...

i'm not sure if everyone is looking at the same clothes i am, but Carmen gave the strongest showing in my opinion. her clothes remind me of a more overtly funky Kara Janx, and exuded so much more energy than any other designer's garments.

This final group is sort of leaving me speechless. Not in a good way.

everything was a little meh. comments rocked, though! so psyched for wed night and thurs am!

Little Plaid Riding Hood FTW! :D

I would wear that coat *right now*. So cute!

Everything else (except perhaps the neutral stripey dress at the beginning) is absolute fug. Underwhelming, uninspiring fug. Bleaugh.

(I will concede some of the outfits were very well tailored, but that doesn't make them any less fugly.)

Steven's first look is my favorite in the show. The length of the dress (exagerated by the ballet flats) adds interest and is just right.

Okay, I admit to a little crush on him. He seems like such a gentleman! Maybe he'll be the surprise winner of it all?

PS I'm so damn sick of the mini, the formal short and the red-carpet gown.

PPS Robin Givhan has a hilarious review of the first episode in Wed's WaPo. (there are some spoilers, but she doesn't give away the ending)

Late to the party, but I was unimpressed with everything except maybe Carmen's last look. The first thing I thought of when I saw Christian's first look was Balenciaga from 2006. Hated it then, and it has not improved with age. Kit? Meh. Steven's third look reminded me of the Valentino gown that Oprah wore to the Oscars several years ago.

I guess that's my real problem. Everything has a been-there-seen-that aura to it. Well, hopefully things will get better as the season progresses.

Vic said...

Oh, HAH! Your comments are better than the clothes. Oh, this season is going to be such fun.

Carmen: my first thought was WENDY PEPPER? All I needed to hear was the weird French classical music she played during her runway show.

Steven: isn't he the guy in the promos who says his worst nightmare "is having to sew for the drag queens...again."? If that is the same guy (he had also tried out in previous seasons and didn't make the cut)--he totally gets a pass simply for such a cute remark. But only ONE!

So far, mostly meh on the designs I'm seeing.

But am I the only one whose first thought of Steven's third look was "OPRAH"?

Actually you are kinder than me. I was thinking ARETHA FRANKLIN?

Anonymous said...

"Bob Mackie S&M Hooker Superhero"!

Damn, but you bitches are good!!!

Anonymous said...

"Aggressively ugly". ROFL. I'm going to use that now.

Anonymous said...

Tom: It's something Samantha Stevens would wear when Larry and Louise Tate are coming over for drinks.

That is one of the best lines you've ever had on this blog.

Am I the only one who thinks we're getting way too much information before the season's even begun?

Giselle "Hinata" Ascott said...

The first model for Kit could NOT WALK. I would have liked the outfit (sans the gloves) but her weird walking just totally threw me off. As much of a diehard fan I am, I sadly only liked Steven's first design. Second one would have been good without the black froof and number 3 *sighs and shakes head.* As Nick Verreos would say "That's a whole lotta" dress. And I defend the little Plaid Riding Hood! Nice to see Marilinda is still FIERCE!

Hell, all she needs (in that Little Plaid Riding Hood outfit) is an umbrella and a barrel of salt. How Morton Salt Girl can you get?
