Catching up on PR Canada

Friday, October 26, 2007 by

We found an interview with our favorite PR Canada designer, Carlie. Some tidbits:

"During the first season of the American Project Runway, three or four years ago, I told everyone in school that if [the show] ever came to Canada, I’d totally win, so I had to put my money where my mouth was."

"People are already beginning to recognize me," she whispers conspiratorially. "It’s weird."

"Strangely enough, given my personality, it was easier for me to be on national TV than walk into a store and say, 'Buy my stuff!' The whole goal of doing Project Runway was to win and get that $100,000 to start my own line. How else am I ever going to get a hold of that kind of money? Not eat for five or six years?"

"What next? You need to be reachable. Otherwise, you’re this mystery designer people may have heard of on the show, but they have no way to contact you. I’m working on a website right now - that may be the most important part. This sounds so basic. I’m so naive," she frets. "I don’t even know what’s going to happen after the show finishes."

PR CANADA EPISODE 3: PASSION FOR FASHION

You can catch it here.

Unfortunately the designer who didn't measure up on this episode is displayed right there on the page even before you have a chance to see the episode. Slice forces you to watch the exit interviews before you get to episode 3. Be patient. It's interesting that they have an exit interview for the model as well.

I found that annoying too, but if you push the slider under the video all the way to the right, it will take you to the next video clip so you can fast forward to the episode.

Oh I love her, she's my favorite too. Thanks for the interview, darlings! The episode was awesome. I think Slice is doing a great job.

I love it. They are so fresh - raw talent at its best, just like PR S1.

Who are your favorites? Inquiring minds want to know...

Errr, I should have said "other favorites." I want more coverage, dangit!

I was perfectly fine with them sending Sofia home. It's kind of my pet peeve when people assume that because they have kids they are an authority on all sorts of things. Her outfit was really safe, and I'm glad they didn't reward her for it. That said, I thought Biddell's outfit was equally boring/predictable. AN LA BRATZ DOLL? No way!
I was little surprised at their winning design as well, though. It seemed they were rewarding her for being as unsafe as she could, which doesn't necessarily mean hers was the best.
Oh, and Megan needs TO STOP!

The judges are strange. They said the Egyptian dress was too sexy then chose as the winner someone showing lots of frilly knickers!

I like Stephen's personality. I actually did like Megan's dress this time but goodness, didn't she know she would have to sew????

Thanks for putting up the links.

Megan is a pain in the ass. She needs to go, NOW! As the other designers pointed out, she's just too annoying to be around with.

Carlie is from Vancouver and we love her! Go Carlie!!

Loved the third episode. Wasn't sorry to see Sofia leave, but at the same time, I didn't feel as if she produced the worst outfit. I actually thought the winning design was yuck, but maybe it translated better in real life. On TV, I didn't see the charm. I would have given the win to Carlie. Her outfit was just cute, colorful and imaginative. And yes, Megan continues to bug. Oh, and that "Bustle" judge -- he really bugs!

I love Carlie's personal style. I liked how she wore a string of pearls with that dress she's wearing in the picture in episode two.

I LOVE her! she's down to earth, and a freakin' plus size!!!!!

This of course means she'll be gone next round!

Did any notice how in Sofia's exit interview, they edit the heck out of it. You can see how the scenery in the background is very choppy and changes so often.

I'm really loving PRC. They're trying to have drama, but really, Canadians are too nice for all that crap. The Megan thing got overblown because that's about all they could find.

Even Stephen's drama queen act just vanished when it got to be time to get to work. Did you notice him quoting Uncle Nick when his model was stolen?

I agree that Carlie is the best of this bunch. Kendra is good, too.

I heart Carlie!

PS - Why can't Bravo have a good website as good as Slice?

Anonymous said...

Am really enjoying watching PR Canada. Since Slice is at least making it possible to watch, I'm not going to complain too much about having the face of the losing designer staring at me through the whole episode.

I don't know when the Canadian show is scheduled to finish, but come Nov. 14, we should have a period with two versions of PR to see every week. What an embarrassment of riches following what seems like a long drought.

Can I talk about how much I love Carlie for a second? Girl's current blog entry rips Megan, the judges, and the reality show format to shreds, her umbrella dress was completely wicked, and I kind of want her to be my best friend.

She also reminds me a bit of Carisa, except with actual substance.

I am loving PRC! I hope PR4 is just as good.

It's interesting that they have an exit interview for the model as well.

This is one area where I think PRC is doing much better than the original. I am liking the way they show the designers working with the models before the runway show. One gets a much better sense of the work involved in modeling, what has to be done so that the model projects the designer's vision.

Just like me : - ) I love her!

Wow the comments on Carlie's blog are brutal!
And why do they edit out the "s" word and not the "f" word? Just wondering...
I am having a hell of a time viewing this episode on their website. I watched the first part, paused it for a while, and cannot get the second part to start....o

It looks like they've blocked the episodes for viewers outside Canada.

Damn.

Stephen is hilarious. I hope he stays for a while.

Hi Christopher,

I loved when Kendra said "we have to take our models out and shoot them."

LOL. That was funny.

I thought the winner design was OK. I actually liked Biddell's.

Megan is a spoiled bitch, OK. She can't sew!!! The woman can't do anything aside from whining and crying. What is she still doing there????

Anonymous said...

To watch the episodes outside of Canada, Look under the pictures of the designers and see "Episodes". Click on the episode number you want to view.

I love the way they had the designers blogging as the show was taped and we can now read those blogs.

YAY! Team challenge next week!! Egos are going to go through the roof!

Iman is starting to grow on me. Her humor is coming out.

Carlie's dress was cute but the jacket frumped it up a bit. And the model never took it off. Bad model!

And Steven is entertaining so I'd like him to stay, but his clothes are just so, so sad.

Megan seems like one of the better conceptual designers there - I've liked the ideas she comes up with. Not having the sewing skills to execute them probably is confidence-draining, but she needs to buck up or go home.

And Kendra is an absolute delight to watch. Yes, let's go shoot the models.

Carlie is the ever lovin' BOMB! She's imaginative and hilarious. Kendra rocks-- she could be her own model she's so fine. AND she's a crack up to boot! My absolute faves. Megan needs to be kicked back to that proverbial slow boat to China. She needs to watch "Empire of the Sun" to see what happened to the last asshole kid in Shanghai.

Am I the only one who started to like Megan just a bit this episode? I thought her dress was beautiful, and if it wasn't for the fact that she'd gone through the wringer on previous episodes and totally lost her confidence, she would have made a great show of it. As it was, the dress was still among the top entries.

My husband and I both thought the judge from Elle Canada who derided Megan's lack of professionalism was being a jerk. Please! the producers of PRC are loving every minute of Megan's emotional struggles. It drives me crazy when they push, push, push at people and then complain that they are breaking under the pressure.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for an underdog...or at least I sympathize with someone whose emotions are close to the surface. I still don't think Megan will get much farther, and I still wish she'd taken a bit more time to learn to sew before entering this competition, but I like her just a bit more this week.

Carlie and Kendra are my faves so far.

For once being from Canada is a plus, even though we'll probably have to watch until PRC is over to see the first shows of PR4. This suck!

Anyway, I get to see PRC "live" every Monday night, and let me tell you, Megan grates really quickly. She's a crying, whining mess and every week, I quite unkindly think: "If you can't hack it without your sweatshop in Shangai, take the boat back, you wimp!" IMO, every trade and profession is the same: you've got to be able to do it yourself to understand every aspect of the "product", and your knowledge makes you more creative. That's why on PR, we always roughly know who's going to make the final 6. Anyone lacking in basic skills usually goes home in the first 6 weeks (with one notable exception. I'm talking about you, WP!)

I was very iffy about Iman at first. Still love Heidi, but I have to say Iman rocks... and her outfits don't miss the mark. And re: what the PRgayboys said about the drama. They couldn't be more right. There's not enough drama on PRC. I was afraid of that. English-speaking Canadians (of all races) are notorious for being... low-key. They shouldn't have sent Darin home so soon. He was clearly the "bitch" of the bunch. Now we're left with Stephen, who's not that weird, nice Carlie, whiny Megan and slightly bad Biddel. (Iman seems to like him!)We even missed our potential "model drama" when Gigi, who gave off Morganza vibes, up and quit, leaving poor Stephen with a size 2 outfit and a size 6 model. And he didn't even have a breakdown. BTW, "Daisy Duke on acid"... LOL !

Regarding the comment that the jacket on Carlie's outfit "frumped it up a bit": I see where you're coming from, but that interview with her says she work(s?/ed?) for Kensie, and it seems very like their style--kind of anthropologie on the cheap, or urban outfitters for a slightly older set. In other words a girlie, retro vibe. I thought it was cute and really well made, but I can see how it might a little too costume-y for some.

I agree with the love for Carlie, and thought she was robbed during the umbrella fabric challenge -- her design was brilliant. In addition, isn't she beautiful?

That said, French-Canadian solidarity demands my vote for Marie-Genevieve; I give it gladly. She, too, is wonderful.

ps. Iman: "I got a rock star." Ha!

At least Megan ADMITS she can't sew (unlike Zulema who had zero sewing skills yet carried on like all she had was a time managment issue....no honey....it was a put the thread in the bobbin and drag the fabric under the needle issue). And the only reason Megan is still there is because of the tears and mental break down. God bless those Canadians....there is no bitchiness so let there be whininess!!

On Carlie's blog she said Sofia's craftsmanship was beautiful and that should have counted for something.

That Shanghai Bratz dress looks like something I just saw in the party store for Halloween for $19.99.

Thats the only thing I can't stand about PR....the people who get to stay (Vincent) because of their nuttiness, sending the quiet, normal ones home (Alison) because they aren't giving you enough good T.V.

Waaa! Where is the episode to watch? What has happened to our fabulous Youtube lady who always posts them for us? Are we cut off?

Geeze, I'm such a baby. I found the thrid episode on YouTube. Just put "Project Runway Canada s1e03p1" into the YouTube search and the first part comes right up.

I actually feel kind of bad for Megan. She's obviously not a bad designer, she's just not a good sewer.

Lisette said...

Someone PLEASE tell me why people go on this that can't sew. I do understand that in the real world Michael Kors is not hemming his stuff before a runway showing but at this point anybody applying as a contestant would know the drill, non?

How much are you being paid to plaster all these ads all over your site? They're getting out of hand.

Carlie is adorable. Kendra is the bomb, and I just can't believe how far beyond fabulous Iman is on PRC!! (Wouldn't have guessed it from her lackluster guest judge appearance on Project Runway.) I'm also really kinda digging the judge from Elle, who serves up her bitchiness ice cold but with a smile.

Just an adorable little bitch, that girl is! love it when she rips on the one with no talent.
