Sweet P

Friday, September 21, 2007 by
"Sweet P was born and raised in Los Angeles, and started sketching during commercial break of "The Sonny and Cher Show"! Her love for surfing was matched by her passion for vintage clothes, and her life in LA led to her joining a biker girl gang, Hells Belles, where she got her nickname!

While attending Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Sweet P started working in the underground club scene and would make her own outfits. With the growing interest in her designs, she decided to put together a small collection of club wear and sold it to a few stores in L.A. Her line “Sweet P” morphed from club wear to retro. Since then, she's worked at Bebe and Harkham. Her first collection will be available in February 2008."

I didn't know John Gallino went bankrupt twice. I hope Sweet P doesn't win, because we don't need another Jeffery-like designer.

Hey....the biker persona worked for Jeffrey....who knows?

I do remember reading that they say this season is going to bring far more talent than they've ever had before...or do they say that every year?

Anonymous said...

Another fucking designer associated with losers? WTF?????????

Anonymous said...

@suzanne: They say that every year.

Re: "Sweet Pee" ... Been there, done thazzzzzzzzzzzz

OK, what is she wearing in that first video? And surely, there must be other designers in LA besides the Santino/Jeffrey posse. Doesn't Kara Saun have any friends? (thinking about that one....)

And if she's really good at being on a team, she'll be out in the first team challenge!

I have a feeling she won't last long.

Seriously. Kara Saun, send one of your friends!!!

I like her. She reminds me of Andrea Keller from Top Design; a cool mother from LA.

God I hate L.A.

Anonymous said...

Oh no, not this again.

So far, not impressed with any of the contestants we've seen. Hope this season isn't a total let down!

Anonymous said...

She knows Jeffrey Sebelia? Next!

kath said...

By "talent", maybe they mean dramatic talent? Because let's face it, PR stopped being about the clothes long ago.
But- PLEASE!!!!! Enough with the Jeffrey/Santino gang!
It's starting to get tired.

Anonymous said...

Did Jeffrey teach her how to cheat too?

Anonymous said...

Sweet P is a fantastic human being and designer. Just because she knows Jeffrey and Santino you guys already decided to hate her. That makes no sense.

Anonymous said...

I like her. She's cool.

Anonymous said...

Does Sweet P really take criticism well? We'll see, especially from the boys. LOL.

You can see some of her designs on her my space page:

Sweet P is a friggin doll. You'll love her. TRUST.

She doesn't just know Jeffrey, se IS Jeffrey, after undergoing extensive hormone replacement therapy and tattoo rearranging.

Anonymous said...

I love how she shows off her suicide wrist scars in the vid. So fashionable. Sweet P-sus!

I second that.

A rockin' Chica with a lovely smile. I like her!

Of course she has to shout out to her home boys (and maybe that's part of her reality game strategy, too) but I get the sense she's an adult who knows herself well. She wants success on the show but isn't emotionally invested in it.

She probably would do well in a design group.

I hope she doesn't waste too much energy mothering others, which is one fault I imagine she might have (see home boys).

Bettie, according to the comments on that My Space she only went home last Friday. I have no idea what the shooting schedule is, but I wonder if thats good or bad?

Anonymous said...

is anyone else sniffing around the announced designers' friends for possible other designers? i've noticed a lot of overlap between them...

Sweet P is f***ing fabulous!!! We're very proud of her!!!

I'm sure KS has a plethora of friends. If they're anything like her, they already have gainful employment and don't need to be on game shows.

I'd like to know who Santino and Jeffrey are blowing to constantly get their friends on PR.

It's getting nepotistic and annoying!

The producers don't give a shit about fashion or real talent. It's all about the manipulation that goes on to ensure that a seemingly "real" show maintains high ratings. Maybe Sweet P is talented. We'll see.

Re the hairstyle -- Gwen Stefani appropriated that 'do in homage to girls like Sweet P. It's a SoCal Latina thing.

I wouldn't necessarily call it nepotism.

I am a dance teacher/choreographer/dance studio owner. The dance world is very very very small....especially at its highest levels of talent and performance. Every season on So You Think You Can Dance, for example, so many of the dancers have worked together before, competed against each other when they were kids, or worked with the choreographers on other jobs.

In the big cities where designers congregate (NY, L.A., etc.) it would make sense that they would tend to know the same people, network and end up friendly with other designers of their caliber.

There are also a fairly small number of really good design schools in this country where I would imagine you'd find some of the countries top talent. I wonder how many PR contestants know each other from Parsons or F.I.T.?

I would think the same could be said for many industries.

She strikes me as surprisingly boring, underneath the tattoos.

Hello! What's your name?

My name is Big Ass Old School Belle, thanks for asking.

Well, what do you think about Sweet P, Miss BAOSB?

Big Ass Old School Belle thinks it is a tragedy ~ tragedy ~ when women cover their forearms with tattoos. Miss Sexy LA Ink thing notwithstanding, this is so, so sad.

Well what the hell do you know, opinionated biotch?

I know that bodies and skin and tastes change ~ sometimes drastically ~ and tattoos are forever and forearms! on women! heaven help us. That is all.

Love this.

Alexis (who has a very old and not-so-loved tattoo, but on her back where she, at least, never has to see it!)

re suzanne:

Thank you for that voice of reason. And reference to the fabulous SYTYCD (which I am currently watching) I look forward to judging all the contestants by their designs and their back-stabbery (or lack of)

She seems genuine enough, and honestly, she had the chutzpah to enter, which goes a long way in my book.

Furthermore, she mentioned her association with Jeffrey even though she KNEW it had to mean some people would instantly judge her - it's no secret that most people don't like him - but she did it anyway. That means she's either really confident in her own abilities, or a very honorable friend to Jeffrey.

Either way, I'm on her side.

Sweet P has been around the LA club scene for a long time and is really well liked. I'm pretty sure she used to work at Club Fuck and Sinimatic. I know she is married, but also once dated Jenny Shimizu. Very cool from my limited exposure. Extremely nice and a dear friend of LA gay culture. Stop being so damn harsh, it's really just ugly.

"Stop being so damn harsh, it's really just ugly."

No.

Just go. This isn't the blog for you if you can't laugh at a little bitchery. I've been here since day one and we had to suffer through all of Jeffrey's humorless friends coming here last season and defending him ad nauseam. What is it with the tattoo'd LA crowd that they can't laugh at damn joke now and then. Lighten the fuck up.

Not as sad as women who eat themselves into obesity.

Those weren't friends. That was an organized PR effort. Very obvious.

OK, I've finally seen the video of Lydia. The 'sweet' is clearly ironic.

Let's talk about taste levels...Who would want to be dressed by a freak covered in tatoos? And does she think the knee socks make her 40-something year old arse look younger? Not even acne would do that.

I have to say that I do not like any of these contestants so far. If this turns out to be another Lord of the Flies season, not even T&L will be able to save it.

Does anyone remember when there was this great TV show that followed aspiring designers, who were looking for their big break, and showed how they created their way through competitions?? I think it was called Project Runway. I wonder whatever happened to it...

She seems a little less affected than the other three, but you really couldn't tell much about her ability from the clip. So far I like her best.

Oh, lighten up! They just had one bad season. PR1 and 2 were great. I think this season is going to be closer to PR2 because the designers seem more friendly, except maybe Jillian. I couldn't imagine Chris, Christian, or this girl turning into another Jeffery/ Keith. And Tim said there was a lot of talent in this group.

Sweet P is fabulous! Ya’ll need to quit hating on her.

Reading these comments and knowing Sweet P has given me a new perspective of reality TV...I'm not going to vindicate myself and say I don't judge people on TV easily, but it's so strange to read these hateful comments about someone so amazing. I think you guys will change your tune when you see her...maybe not, but in any case she certainly is a wonderful woman.

Project Runway is just wee bit of fun. It is only a TV show. No small children are going to die.

Good luck to them all.
I hope they make some wonderful creations.

Ok now I just watched the video.... How can anyone make a judgement on the person from that???? It was 2 seconds long. Did I miss something?

Sweet P was the lovely door greeter at Sin-a-matic and other L.A. underground dance clubs. She's one of the sweetest yet toughest grrrls I know. She ROCKS!!!!!!!
