And you're invited!

EMC2 is celebrating its first anniversary tomorrow night and the fabulous Emmett is throwing a fabulous party.

Emmett sent us this picture of the EMC2 team and we asked him to write a little bit about each person. Before we get to that, we want to embarrass him a little bit.

Of all the unexpected things to happen with this blog, meeting and befriending Emmett has probably been the MOST unexpected (because let's face it, we KNEW we were going to meet Laura and hit it off with her, that was practically a given). He is the classic example of a highly talented person who just doesn't work well in reality television. Our initial impression as viewers was that he seemed like a nice enough guy; kinda cute, kinda talented, but a little bland. We could not have been more wrong about him, we're happy to say. He is loaded with personality - funny, bitchy, intelligent, but also sweet and kind. Oh, and he's gorgeous. Most importantly, he is a very talented designer producing some beautiful clothing - which is why we tend to write about him often. Not because we adore him personally, but because he's really putting his stuff out there in a way almost none of the other PR contestants do. And he's very gracious to the PR fanatics out there, ourselves included. He appreciates all the support and constantly looks for ways to keep them included and updated. He's just an all-around great guy and we're so pleased that we've gotten a chance to know him.

So, without further ado, we give you Team EMC2, In EMC's own words:

Rainer Wolter, Design and Production at EMc2, Rainer does a great job taking the concept from sketch to initial pattern to sample to final production. Rainer started with EMc2 and on his first day we went looking for available storefronts in NoLita. Rainer has seen what starting a design company from the ground up is all about. There was NOTHING (other than working with leather or fur) that Rainer could not do or master. A farm boy who knows what dedication and work ethic is all about! (And he is HOT TO DEATH - T&L)

Erin McDonnell, VP of Design, Erin and I have been friends and worked together 10 years ago. We celebrated St. Patrick's day together for many years never thinking we would be celebrating the first EMc2 anniversary together! Last year I called and asked her to sell her jewelry designs exclusively at EMc2. Erin joined our team and works on designing the ready to wear, shoes and our upcoming handbag collections. Together we research trends, fabrics and manufacturers ,she joined our team in February '07 first traveling to Milan and Paris. Erin is steadfast on getting our design schedule together. Erin brings experience, design talent and determination and support to every design project we tackle. She offers such an array of talent and is our newest member to our staff, but was there from the beginning with her coordinating her jewelry designs with our EMc2 fashions.

Emmett McCarthy, CEO, Design Director, Business Owner

Dimitry Chamy, Brand Director, Dimitry and I met 10 years ago when he was earning his Masters in Graphic Design at Yale.We clicked immediately and have been friends for all these years and he encouraged me every step of the way while auditioning for Project Runway! Who knew what was next! When the idea of starting a brand with a flagship boutique came up, Dimitry jumped in and helped in choosing the space and then sight unseen, designed the interior from measurements and photos. Dimitry carefully crafted the brand identity and all the collateral materials for the company. Dimitry also designs and maintains our website and is launching our web store. (He designs all of the beautiful graphics you've seen on the blog as well as the ad you see to your right. Talented and an utter sweetheart - T&L)

Arielle Silva, Merchandise Manager. Arielle started as an intern and joined our team December 05. Arielle pulls together our photo shoots, and merchandises the EMC2 designs on the sales floor.

Missing from this photo are:
Sheri Hammerstrom, Operations Manager who handles the banking and oversees the accounting and store operations. Sheri is an opera singer, teaches voice lessons. I also worked with Sheri at another job 5 years ago, and when I could not do all the important details she took over. She has a BUNNY named Avery and Avery turned out to be a GIRL!

Steven Bocks, Leather and Sheerling Specialist. Steven is a gift to the EMc2 team who arrived in October 07. Steven shares his 20 years of his Luxury SoHo Design and Retail experience. Steven works hard during the week designing custom outerwear sold exclusively at EMc2. Every weekend Steven is styling clients and keeping the spirit of the boutique lively, (his music taste runs very 70's disco!)

Peggy and David McCarthy, My parents who invested their money with the faith that I will make them proud venture capitalists.

Congratulations, Emmett!
You must be one of the hardest working people on the planet and you deserve every bit of your success. Much luck to you!

And farm boy? The boys are right, you are HOT!

My hearty congrats to you and your team, Emmett!

I love that he put his parents in there.

I'd love to go to the boutique, but I feel like I'm not cool enough to walk in the door. They'd look at me and be like, "This is SO not our customer." And then the six-feet-tall rail-thin supermodel salesgirls would run me right out of there.

Like in Pretty Woman!! Remember that? I just flashed on it!

I adore Emmett!! Congratulations, sweetie. You deserve it. He is a fabulous designer and brilliant businessman.

I saw Emmett and his Emmet's store featured on a recent episode of TLC"s "What Not To Wear". It was the "Shaeffer" episode. They were doing a makeover and shopping in Emmett's store.

My heart skipped a beat when I glimsped Emmett at the register. And they even tried on one of Kara Janx's kimono dresses. Awesome!

How cool is it that he gave a shout out to his parents?! Absolutely adorable.

I want to visit NYC just so I can see his shop.

Emmett,

You're living proof that you don't have to be the winner to be a winner.
The greatest luck to you in your endeavors. I wish you only successes!

You are 100% right about Emmett. I've been in his store a few times and he is Charming with a capital C.

Beyond that, his clothes are GORGEOUS!!! I only wish I could afford them (and I don't say that to infer they are over-priced; just that I am under-funded). His clothes are wonderful and impecably made. Simply beautiful.

If I ever came into a windfall, his shop is one of the first places I'd head for.

Good for Emmett!
I just watched the "Watch What Happens" with Andy Cohen and Tim named Emmett what they refer to in the Miss America circles as "Most Talented Non Finalist"....in other words the most talented designer not to make it to fashion week.

Not to mention....Emmett is SOOOOO Hot!!

Emmett's success is proof positive that some designers are not cut out to compete on reality t.v. I made comments to that effect during the 2nd season of the show on Blogging Project Runway.

I've always liked his designs - very tailored, but he kept a woman's body in mind. I felt that his designs flattered and respected our curves. He was overlooked by the judges, and I felt they were too harsh on him. I am so glad that he is making a success of himself.

It doesn't hurt that he's drop down gorgeous.

I love you!!

I adore Emmett. I'm beyond thrilled at his success--he obviously listened to Fern Malis's words to "be nice." He's talented, savvy, and people can't stop talking about what a great guy he is. The kind of thing parents love to see and hear!

Congratulations, Emmett! May the next year be even bigger and better!

(I had never noticed until this picture that he and my son-in-law bear a striking resemblance. Boy, was that a jolt this morning, lol.)

Best wishes for continued success, Emmett! You have an awesome team.

Emmett, I ADORE YOU!!

Does Emmett have like, a nine foot arm span, because he definitely has four people in his arms in that picture...

I can't believe it's only been a year; the store is already an institution!

Congratulations, Emmett!

I love it that Emmett spun his bit on PR in a way that is working for him, and helping him achieve his rightfully gained success.

You go, Emmett.

I'm going to shop at your store as soon as I recover from my tummy tuck. Oh, and hop a plane to NYC.

Anonymous said...

Emmett,

How sweet of you to mention your parents! Best wishes!!

I think it is great that he has his own store. I think Emmett seems like a great guy. But is he really serious about those prices? Those of you in NY might pay $400+ for a little shift dress but the rest of America does not. Hopefully you can sell enough in NY to stay in business. Good luck truly.

In a few years time when they do the "Whatever Happened To....?" episode of PR they can point to Emmett as a real success story. And eat some crow over Aufing him too soon.

What I get from everything I read about him is that he's all about the work and not about the fame. It's the work that gets you the fame, not the other way around. But try to tell that to some people....

Congratulations to Emmett and his team, many more years of success to you!
