Debra Messing at the Women In Film's 2008 Crystal Lucy Awards at the Beverly Hilton wearing a Naeem Khan gown from his Fall 2008 Collection - and a major new 'do.
That's quite a little look change from the former Grace Adler. Overall, it's a sharp, unique, photographable look and she comes across very comfortable and confident in it. Interestingly enough, she wore the dress backwards.
Or at least, backwards from the way it appeared on the runway:
Naeem Khan Fall 2008 Collection
To be honest, we prefer it runway style. But this is Hollywood, where the titties reign supreme, so we don't blame her for flashing her wares a little.

The dress could really go either way, but I think her impeccable styling sells the look. Her hair and make-up are great. The fact that her styling is so clean makes the dramatic print and neckline work.
On the model it seems to be wrapped in the back, but on DM the back--which is now the front--looks sewn together. Perhaps this version is meant to be worn that way. . . or maybe she had it altered. Anyway, she looks good.
The dress looks better backwards! I love the hair and make-up and the dress looks great in the side view pictures, but from the front it looks a little like a robe that doesn't have enough overlap and it may pop open any second revealing all.
She looks great. i love the hair and makeup.
Much better on the model, sorry. Her hair and make-up are great, though.
is the 'do really that new and major? she got a dye job. it's still reddish. and she's wearing it in a bun. seen it.
Love the hair!
The dress looks sloppy. It's not designed to be a caftan. It's designed to be a wrap dress, as you can see on the model, whether you want to wear it wrapped in front or in the back. On DM, it's tied too loosely and it's just tied in a granny knot, without a bow. Looks a lot nicer with the dress wrapped properly, with the ribbon tied snugly into a bow, in the model photo.
wait...did you just say titties in reference to Debra Messing? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Ok. I have now completely reverted to 7th grade.
Hair and makeup : Check.
Shoes : Check
Dress on backwards : check minus
Sure it works but the model looks better in it than she does. One
really needs some cleavage to wear
the dress forwards or backwards. Though less cleavage is needed to wear it forward. The deep plunge of the neckline when wearing it backwards, just draws attention to her lack of endowments.
I saw a front-on shot of this dress earlier, and hated it, but in profile it looks simply stunning.
I like it better the way Messing wears it. I don't think she can pull off a high neckline like the model can.

Ummm...and I thought it was just me. I don't see this newness, either. However, they did a great job on makeup. DM looks good.
Great dress, but like others, I prefer the runway version which seems more wrapped than stitched in place.

Not bad, I love the print and the details. But the backwards-ness maybe explains why it looks too big on her.
This dress confuses me.
It could have been a big "IN" but it doesn't seem to fit her right. Not sure if that's due to it being backwards or forwards or what.
The styling is a great improvement over some of her recent looks.
In.
The words "Hot Mess" came immediately to mind
OUT
I want to like it, I really do, but....
well, how about we keep it on frontwards, but take out the "V" of material so that the front also has a dip. And that way she wouldn't look like she is wearing a robe. (A gorgeous robe, but it still looks like a robe when she puts it on backwards.)
and I agree with the comments about the hair. What is new?? She is always pretty, but the hair isn't new.
I think she looks gorgeous. The makeup is flawless.
The outfit would look better with tits.
And by "wares," you mean "sternum and top of rib cage," oui?
I like it the way she wore it, and I think she pulls it off. Great choice of hairstyle and make-up to complement it, too. I agree, in.
A true obi belt at the waist might have worked wonders for that silhouette. But love the styling and I sense that it moved well. I'll give her an IN as well.
Horrible tip to toe.
She's lovely, but the dress, which is also lovely, seems oddly large on her, as though it's about to fall off.
I'm glad she put her hair up, but I wish she'd put a bit more effort into it. It's a bit too casual, too "I'm just running to the store, so I'll just pin my hair up with a barrette"; it needs more sophistication.
Sorry guys--I see an oversize fancy bathrobe. Hair and makeup are nice, but it looks like she stopped short of the next step--slipping off the robe and donning a smashing dress. OUT.
I like it. It's not stellar, but it's still IN.
The outfit is a bit flawed, but everything else is perfection. In! She looks gorgeous.
eh. definitely looks better on the runway. and debra needs to stop drawing attention to the fact that sh e has no boobs. nothing wrong with her figure, but i don't want to see her bony sternum pointing out more than her boobs. the dress looks sloppy on her, though the detailing on it is superb.
You guys are waving people "in" left and right lately! I wish she'd worn it runway-style, at the very least; backwards, it looks like a very nice bathrobe. Her hair and makeup is great, though, extra-classy.
IN! She looks fabulous! I love the dress sue me : - )
It looks better on the model. Debra needs to fire her gays, although I have to say that her hair looks good. I love the color.
Not my usual taste but I still like it - that is impressive! IN
The dress is STUNNING.
I like the dress but WAY too low cut for her.

I hadn't noticed that. Yeah, I don't like that.
I think it would've looked too stuffy if messing had worn it with the V-neck on the back.
Wearing dress backwards when you have no titties? Priceless....
In this case, it looks better on the model.
Notwithstanding, I'm not holding her to model standards and I'll give it an in, but just barely.
She has "wares"?
Finally - she is not vamping that Lucille Ball style. A big improvement - and thus IN.
haha, what titties
Nope, doesn't create an "IN" feeling here. Just do not like it.
Much too "nightwear" looking for my taste.
Hair Ok, makeup Ok, though.

She should have worn it the correct way. She has to much of a boney chest to wear dresses that low. Plus, she just looks stupid wearing it backwards because she's only doing it to show off her nonexistant chest.
It looks like there are buttons at lower part of her neckline. Maybe she had it customized beyond just sewing up the wrap part. I think it would look a lot baggier if it was just sewn up and turned around.
I really like it- she has the attitude to pull it off.
velvetbeet
I love all things kimono, duro, and wrap so I SHOULD like this but don't. From the side it's hot but from the front it's three sizes too large and about to fall off. Had she gotten it fit better so it skimmed her then it'd be a complete and total IN. As is ... not so much.
The makeup and hair are gorgeous, but that look is almost a little too droopy on her. Still, she looks good.
Her face and makeup look amazing (for a change) but this dress is awful! My vote is No
Messing looks much less messy than usual. I like the styling but the dress - not so much.
J'adore the look. Is Debra Messing carrying the same bag too?
Ah, the wrap dress -- versatile, practical, comfortable, sexy -- I just love it.
OK, in. But what wares?
I agree bittybis. My first reaction was "what wares"?
It looks better the other way.
My friend refers to Debra Messing as "Skinny No Boobs". She is sure living up to his nick name in that silly looking dress. From the neck up IN neck down, OUT.
Man, people sure love to talk about the size of DM's breasts.
As for me, I say OUT. Maybe if the "front" seam of the dress was a little longer (showing slightly less chest and leg), but this way? Just looks like it doesn't fit.
De-lurking for a moment here - When I read today's post I couldn't help but think of the segment in Project Jay where he has a cameo as himself designing a dress for Lisa Kudrow's character in The Comeback, and in the story her character accidentally wears it backwards on the red carpet. Heh. As far as DM is concerned, I think it's okay to have a bit of a sliding scale for her and say she's in. Her styling looks great and as much as I hate the caftan trend, I think she pulls it off without looking like an insane person/hobo/lady with 12 cats/etc., which is pretty impressive.
That dress looks AWFUL the way Debra is wearing it! I adore Debra but she needs to twirl that dress AROUND and wear it the way it was on that model!!!
Like the hair and makeup but she looks like an older Olsen twin in that caftan.
Remember the 70's? Flatchested ladies wore shirts to the navel? I think she is rocking that style. I hated it when I thought the fabric was a print. Seeing these photos made me realize it is embroidered-Yummm. In!
Out. And backwards. At least she didn't wear the black tights from the runway look.
She has boobs, I guess they just aren't up to snuff for some people. No one should have to pass a size test (big or small) to wear a plunging neckline.
Personally I think she looks great. Definitely an in.
- small wares and proud of it
I think she looks great, and as always, its nice to see a woman with small breasts in hollywood.
Most definitely IN. She looks absolutely stunning and that dress is gorge frontwards or backwards.
I think she's trying too hard, and it's just too obvious.
I like the simple elegance of it being worn the proper way. Just enough showing, and not looking like a bathrobe trying to slip off.
LOVE THE HAIR!!!!
DM looks SOOOO much better than usual,
she must of hired new gays.
Was it you TLo?

Don't you mean her "little wares"?
(rim shot)
Thank you!
I'm here all week! Try the veal!
I would wear it DM's way--if it's not sewn together, it's easier to grab things if they're coming apart in front of you rather than fumbling behind yourself.
I don't know much about fashion, but when I first saw the photo, I thought she looked all colorless and washed out. If that's in, she's in.
The gorgeous fabric is the ONLY thing that gives the dress any oomph at all. The design itself is bleah. She could have hung the fabric over herself straight from the bolt and gotten the same wattage from it. A tragic waste.
I don't disagree often, but I'm sorry: That dress (at least worn backwards as she did) looks like a bathrobe. I'm not thrilled with it on the runway look either, but... Sorry, Deb. Out.
The dress looked fabulous on the runway but totally ugly on her. I guess it's because she wore it backwards. Looks like a bathrobe the way she wore it and just completely wrong.

My first thought was "My Grandma has been dead for 10 years. How did they get her bathrobe?"
That has to be the single most retina destructing dress I have seen in ages. That said, her makeup & hair are fabuuu!
SisterZip
I think I like the dress better the other way, but DM's hair and make-up look great. She looks confident and happy, so IN!
Did you guys take a good look at the pattern of that fabric? It's incredible! This looks to me like a case of "good idea goes to hell due to no last minute follow through"...with the proper wrap AND bow, her look would have been sexy as hell. As a result, the wrap and that "I got a phone call that pissed me off half way through dressing and now I don't f**king care" bow she's sporting, really make the front go ker PLUNK. Give her a mulligan on this one, because it's a gorgeous gorgeous dress. Someone buy her a cocktail and whoosh her into the ladies lounge for a touch me up and it's IN big time.
I have to say In! This really could have looked like a robe on the typically messing Messing, but she is styled within an inch of her life...and it's fabulous.
She looks fabu! Glamourous and chic, but soft and approachable, too. I think it's a great dress that can be formal (with the V in the back) or glam (V in the front).
She could use a bit of cleavage, but I'm glad she hasn't gotten implants...too done.
