Well, according to Entertainment Weekly:
"One day, New York is in. The next day, it's out. EW.com has learned from two well-placed sources that Project Runway and its host Heidi Klum will move to Los Angeles for the series' sixth season, expected to premiere on Lifetime in November. The show's fifth season, which debuts on Bravo in July, will be shot in the Big Apple — as it has been since the Emmy-nominated reality program's inception."
Lifetime. You're killing us here. Stop messing with our baby!
UPDATE: [Via EW] " According to a source close to Project Runway, the Emmy-nominated reality show will split its sixth season (expected to premiere on Lifetime in November) between Los Angeles and New York to accommodate host Heidi Klum’s schedule and home life. ReplyDeleteWell, it's technically not a spinoff as heidi is still the host. But if there are new judges, it definitely seems like the beginning of the end.
However, maybe it'll spice things up a bit. It's up to the producers and editors to keep the integrity of the show in tact. If they succeed, won't matter if it's in LA or NY.
Most people don't like change, but I like to withold judgment til I see it.
And it's not even the final blow.

I've been trying and trying, taking a wait and see attitude, but I do believe this is the beginning of the end for PR. I hope they do Season 5 in a super-spectacular way, because once they go out to LA it's ovah!
And no mention of Tim, either. Meh. No Tim? No watchy.

Yes, LA has a "fashion week" but it's so watered down and Z list that it doesnt't even matter. I'm hearing a death knell to the greatness that is PR.

I look at Nick's stuff: hyper-feminine trophy wife stuff.
I look at Kara Saun's stuff: over-produced costumey fashion.
I look at Rami's stuff: drapey stuff that either only looks good on tall thin people or tall thin more mature people.
I look at Sweet P's stuff: nothing that can be worn in a professional office, cutesy stuff that women over 30 can really wear unless they're out of the usual demographics (i.e. kooky women in kooky jobs - bless 'em).
I look at Jeffrey's stuff: completely niche market, rock n' roll, overindulgent narcissists' closet.
Personally, I think the move to LA is a disaster... .
Here's my prediction: Heidi and Uncle Nick as mentor in LA. Iman and Tim in NY.

ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of PR4 I posted a comment that Tim's role on the show had been diminished and that he did not seem at all happy. I predicted that our fair Tim would probably not be with us for long after a season or two more on PR.
I swear, I will not watch PR/LA if either Ant or Ryan Seascrest or some other plastic figure joins the show as Tim's replacement.

Ok, I love PR on Bravo, and I hate, hate, hate, hate lifetime... but perhaps they're looking at reality, that it is going to be pretty impossible to "find the next great fashion designer" in a series of weird challenges over a span of a few months. It is possible to launch someone's career making dresses for starlets though. In a way moving to LA is smart, because many of the contestants are more suited to that market. Does it dumb down the show? Ruin the illusion, definitely. But I think I can see where they're coming from... even if I don't like it one bit.

This is so sad. So I figure I can watch 1 maybe 2 more seasons. Once they move to L.A. it will change the entire character of the show. Tim will be gone and Nick is no Tim, not even close. What would be even more sick is if they tried to get Jeffrey or Santino. Sigh. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

TLo, thanks for the update about the split season. Things get curiouser and curiouser, and NOT in a good way. I understand those who are hollering about "change is BAD" and lord knows I've been kvetching about the move to Lifetime. This is a bit too much too soon when it comes to changing things around.
The fans just wanted a better, fresher PR after this previous season of pro designers who weren't willing to make an ass of themselves on camera. Now it sounds like nothing is sacred about the show and anything could go - even Tim. And the day that happens, "me no watchey" either. This is a little scary.
Be careful what you wish for kittens, you just might get it in spades!
PR-LA with Uncle Nick is actually a fairly excellent idea (maybe Santino can pop in every now and again looking for Andrae)! However, L.A. will never be New York and it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. See, L.A. would have been a great venue for contestants like Elisa and SweetP, and hell, even Santino. There are just certain designers from past seasons who fit that Left Coast sensibility much better and whose output would have made the cut if only...

ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't really get what the big uproar is...will the designers be exclusively from LA? Doesn't PR currently recruit designers from all over the country anyway? PR seems like such a huge bubble, it's not like the designers really interact that much with the outside world while they're on it, anyway, except for judging, occasional walks through the city/Met, and the runway show at Bryant Park...but they can always import judges and have the designers show at Bryant Park anyway.
I will be interested to see how PR LA "brands" itself, though. Producers might feel the need to distinguish it significantly from PR NY, in which case they might latch onto some of the tackier, more unfortunate aspects of LA.
The more I think about it, the more I think this kind of a split PR might open the potential for some interesting things...like ultimate design battles between both groups of PR, guest judging by Iman and Heidi, swapping of mentors, etc.
Then again, as per Lillithcat, maybe this won't even be an issue...

ReplyDeleteLA's Fall Fashion Week was in March this year. They certainly won't need decoy collections in next year's finale...unless they skip a bunch of weeks, the season will end long before Fashion Week rolls around.
If there's no Tim Gunn or Heidi, it might as well be Project Runway Canada/UK/Micronesia. It just ain't the same. If Uncle Nick takes Tim's job, it might at least be amusing to watch as he instructs every designer in the room to consider turning their garment into a bias cut dress or fishtail gown...in every single episode...
Uncle Nick really bugs me. A C-grade designer does not make a good mentor. And I hate his attitude --so superior. Feh.

Well kids, we have our first Lifetime challenges:

design something that makes people think LA isn't a fashion backwater.
I don't like it, but I don't think it's necessarily the end of the world either. Truth be told, fashion came mainstream the last few years through Hollywood, not Broadway. Fashion magazine covers feature starlets more than models, and red carpet fashion is what 90% of the public views as couture. It does track nicely with Lifetime's more Main Street demographic and diverges from the more elitist and intellectual approach to fashion common among the New York fashion set.
Never mind. It IS the end of the world.
Lifetime Television? LA? No mention of Tim Gunn? Are they *trying* to make me throw myself down onto the sofa, sobbing, a la Austin at the end of the Sarah Hudson challenge?
