We're just gonna say right now we called it first.

What did we say? This is what we said:

"The idea of Lifetime doing spinoffs of the show just smells like 'Project Runway, L.A.' to us. Not sure how we feel about that one either."

Well, according to Entertainment Weekly:

"One day, New York is in. The next day, it's out. EW.com has learned from two well-placed sources that Project Runway and its host Heidi Klum will move to Los Angeles for the series' sixth season, expected to premiere on Lifetime in November. The show's fifth season, which debuts on Bravo in July, will be shot in the Big Apple — as it has been since the Emmy-nominated reality program's inception."
Lifetime. You're killing us here. Stop messing with our baby!

UPDATE: [Via EW] " According to a source close to Project Runway, the Emmy-nominated reality show will split its sixth season (expected to premiere on Lifetime in November) between Los Angeles and New York to accommodate host Heidi Klum’s schedule and home life. For season 7, the show will be back in New York, where it has been since its inception, and the upcoming fifth season, which debuts on Bravo in July, will also be set in the Big Apple."

  1. Does this mean new judges?

Well, it's technically not a spinoff as heidi is still the host. But if there are new judges, it definitely seems like the beginning of the end.

However, maybe it'll spice things up a bit. It's up to the producers and editors to keep the integrity of the show in tact. If they succeed, won't matter if it's in LA or NY.

Most people don't like change, but I like to withold judgment til I see it.

  2. And it's not even the final blow.

Tim Gunn in LA? Fuhgeddaboudit. And watch out for announcements of new formats, Tribal Councils and other crapola to be rolled out.

I've been trying and trying, taking a wait and see attitude, but I do believe this is the beginning of the end for PR. I hope they do Season 5 in a super-spectacular way, because once they go out to LA it's ovah!

    ReplyDelete
  3. And no mention of Tim, either. Meh. No Tim? No watchy.

    ReplyDelete
  4. No! PR-LA with Uncle Nick as Tim!

    ReplyDelete
  5. The same tragic mistake was made my Top Model too. You can't move out of a fashion capital like New York to a place where fashion doesn't really exist. Yes, LA has a "fashion week" but it's so watered down and Z list that it doesnt't even matter. I'm hearing a death knell to the greatness that is PR.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Oy. It just gets worser and worser.

  7. The question is, are they going to present the collections in LA? 'cause that would SUCK!! By the way, I love the illustration : )

Yeah, they'll probably replace Tim with some guy named Moondoggie, whose comments to the designers will be, 'Like, wow, man', and 'totally awesome, dude'.

  9. sucky.

I have the same feeling when my favorite underground band gets played on top forty radio; violated by capitalism.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hey Gotham,

They will probably replace Tim with Ryan Seacrest or Lauren Conrad.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Disaster. LA is a joke in the fashion world; Los Angeles Fashion week is filled with sub-par, celebrity designers.

It pains me to say it, but, Project Runway will be Auf the air soon enough.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm guessing Heidi was pushing for the move to LA. That's where she lives and she probably wants to spend more time at home.
I think the show will change. It is going to be more about the "characters" than fashion. NY is fashion. LA is entertainmnent.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, the big question is what effect LA will have on the show. If anyone can think of anything related to fashion and LA that is positive, please speak up. Hollywood, "red carpet" style ? **Shudder**
    This looks bad, very bad.

    ReplyDelete
  14. sigh. And it starts.

So no more Bryant Park after season 5? WTF am I supposed to get excited about then? Fashion Week in LA? Oh puh-leeeezzee. Why Lifetime?! Why???????????!!!!!!!!!

    This blows.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I saw that in Mo Ryan's column. Please note that she gives you guys credit for calling it!

Off-topic: Check out Tim Gunn (with Mo Rocca) on polygamist style! This is hysterical!

    ReplyDelete
  16. It didn't work for ANTM! Are they nuts???

    ReplyDelete
  17. If either Ryan Seacrest, Heidi Montag or Lauren Conrad are within 1 mile of PR-LA, I am OUT.

    ReplyDelete
  18. D'oh! I just finished emailing TLo about this, and then it shows up on the blog. Sorry guys!

I was about to say "No Tim, no watch," but then I saw the comment that said maybe it would be Uncle Nick in the Tim slot. And I'd probably watch that, or at least give it a shot. I do love Uncle Nick. And I'm totally Heidi Klum's bitch. :-)

  19. *evil laughter*

    nothing is sacred!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Too bad they're not moving the show to Miami. Then, they could replace Tim Gunn's advice portion of /Project Runway/ with witty clips from reruns of /The Golden Girls/.

Blanche: I wouldn't be caught *dead* in that dress!

(Spectacular opportunity for Lifetime tie-ins: priceless.)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh Jesus.

I'm a California girl and have been all my life, but we're just not a fashion capital. We start a lot of youth trends and people dress pretty fashionably, but we're not a big center of fashion creation.

And it's like she said, no more shopping at Mood? WTF? I'm sorry but it not the same show anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I HATE LA!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't understand why they would make so many changes on something that is doing so well as it is. I mean, changing the network is already a huge risk. I don't get them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. There actually is a Mood Fabrics in LA.

    Doesn't make it better, though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I hear Ant will replace Tim Gunn. He's just awesome on Celebrity Fit Club.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Let it be said that on this day, Project Runway has officially "Jumped the Shark".
    Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Have you guys ever seen any one of the LA Fashion Week shows? It's a joke! What's next? The winner will get a spread in Lucky Magazine.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I know the LA fashion scene and yikes...
What Pam and Gella from Juicy are going to be judges?
    Designing surfwear?
Can you picture someone like Christian PPS doing a t-shirt for Christian Audigier?
The scene here (well not even all the way here because the fashion scene in Diego would make you CRY. It's REALLY rich bitchy La Jolla old lady here).
No, seriously they would have to find pretty much local designers who mesh with the aesthetics ( a couple of them) and market and I think they would really loose the interest of the rest of the country.
    Love,
    Milla

    ReplyDelete
  30. Interesting follow-on -- "A Lifetime spokesman was unaware of any decision to move production for the sixth cycle."

Makes you wonder if Lifetime knows what they actually bought. Were all the changes identified before the new network deal? Hmmm.

Personally, I love LA. But when it comes to a fashion related reality show, it might as well be Atlanta or Cincinnati or Peoria. If it ain't NYC, it just doesn't make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oi.

Well... Tim did sort of go up against that Steven Kajagoogoo (Entertainment Tonight guy) at the Toronto ELLE show and wouldn't you know it - Steven wiped Tim off the floor, at least with the amount of people attending their separate discussions.

If the link doesn't go through, search for Tim Gunn at www.nationalpost.com or "A fashion fanatic faceoff".

So dumbing down the show could actually bring in more viewers. And that's always a goal for producers.

In any case, the fact that so many PR designers come from LA has got to mean *something*, non?

I don't know what, exactly, but, you know, *something*?

I look at Nick's stuff: hyper-feminine trophy wife stuff.

I look at Kara Saun's stuff: over-produced costumey fashion.

I look at Rami's stuff: drapey stuff that either only looks good on tall thin people or tall thin more mature people.

I look at Sweet P's stuff: nothing that can be worn in a professional office, cutesy stuff that women over 30 can really wear unless they're out of the usual demographics (i.e. kooky women in kooky jobs - bless 'em).

I look at Jeffrey's stuff: completely niche market, rock n' roll, overindulgent narcissists' closet.

Personally, I think the move to LA is a disaster... .

    ReplyDelete
  32. Here's my prediction: Heidi and Uncle Nick as mentor in LA. Iman and Tim in NY.

THAT's why Iman would issue what seemed like an uncharacteristically unclassy throwdown -- to generate a little fake rivalry between the two cycles.

    Just sayin'.

Exactly. I don't care if they shoot the episodes in Fargo as long as we have Bryant Park and NY Fashion Week.

Folks, NY Fashion Week has DVF, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Proenza Shouler...you name it.

LA Fashion Week has Lauren Conrad from The Hills. THE. HILLS. How Appropriate!

    ReplyDelete
  34. well, could they shoot all the season in LA and then still do Fashion Week at Bryant Park????

ay ay ay... all these changes... it just doesn't feel right at all...

it's not like Top Chef where they could do different cities every season, unless they do NYC, Milan, Paris or London.... THAT would be a new concept to get excited about! not LA!!!!! :-(

    ReplyDelete
  35. oh dear. does this mean they'll be doing la fashion week instead of ny fashion week? that would be very very sad. it looks like the show has already ended...

    ReplyDelete
  36. But, but, but....what about Tiiiiiiiim???????

At the beginning of PR4 I posted a comment that Tim's role on the show had been diminished and that he did not seem at all happy. I predicted that our fair Tim would probably not be with us for long after a season or two more on PR.
I swear, I will not watch PR/LA if either Ant or Ryan Seascrest or some other plastic figure joins the show as Tim's replacement.

lindala: "What's next? The winner will get a spread in Lucky Magazine?"

I'm not a big fan of Lucky Magazine, but with this exciting new change, I totally see the winner getting a spread in either "People" or "Style." Blech.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I can see it now, "Design an outfit for celebrity home tour guides" or "Start a new trend for 14 year old girls with too much time on their hands".

Bad move. While we can agree that fashion designers may come out of LA, fashion does not. NY, Milan, Paris - that's about it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It makes no sense to take PR out of the fashion capital that is NY. Sounds like a move based on convenience.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why is it such a East Coast West Coast Fashion Beef? Are we Biggie and Tupac. Now, I hate the lifetime move, but I'm kinda feeling the LaLa Land move. Seriously I know NYC is a fashion mecca, but LA has a Fashion Week and I think Project Runway will help make it better i.e. more designers will want to show there. Seriously have you seen some of the L.A. girls they need some help STAT!

    ReplyDelete
  40. One more thing....Too all the LA Haters but Project Rungay lovers, just think how funny some of the post will be from the L.A runway....that's a bonus kinda?

  42. Agreeing with bastylefilegirl. They could do the damn show from the moon if they keep the same format (and they had a fabric store), I don't get the snobbery. And I don't even like L.A.

    ReplyDelete
  43. LA isn't a fashion capital of the world. The show already has very little credibility in the industry and now this.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Gotham tomato said, "To quote Woody Allen, 'The only cultural advantage to Los Angeles is, you can make a right turn on a red light.'"

And you can do that pretty much anywhere now, so they don't have even that advantage now!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ok, I love PR on Bravo, and I hate, hate, hate, hate lifetime... but perhaps they're looking at reality, that it is going to be pretty impossible to "find the next great fashion designer" in a series of weird challenges over a span of a few months. It is possible to launch someone's career making dresses for starlets though. In a way moving to LA is smart, because many of the contestants are more suited to that market. Does it dumb down the show? Ruin the illusion, definitely. But I think I can see where they're coming from... even if I don't like it one bit.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hmmmm. I suppose they could have Uncle Nick in the Tim Gunn role.

    The judges?

    blech.

  49. hmmmm.....Tim Gunn walking about downtown LA's fabric/fashion district? Oh yeah, he'll blend. Bwahahaha!

I'm an LA gal and love it here, but methinks PR would have a different vibe here. Good? Bad? I dunno, just different.

    ReplyDelete
  54. definitely not watching PR if it moves to LA. lifetime doesn't deserve ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  55. It'll be a whole different show with LA aesthetic and fashions.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Expect to see a lot of mini, fishtail hem and chiffon dresses.

Excuse me, I need to throw up.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Good God, not La-la Land. They'll force Tim to wear bronzer. They'll invite the Housewives of Orange County to be guest judges. Contestants will have to create an original and flattering bathrobe to be worn by an abused wife in the latest Lifetime Original Movie. It's just getting worse and worse....

    ReplyDelete
  58. Ugh. LA fashion week definitely doesn't measure up to New York's, and do they honestly think fashion designers will come to LA to be judges? I wouldn't hold my breath.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm trying to give it a chance, but I just don't think I can. Will it even be worth watching?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Just saw this comment to Mo Ryan's column - don't know who this "Dave" is, though:

Hi Mo -- Saw on the site that you posted that Project Runway is moving to Los Angeles for season 6.

This is not entirely correct. Project Runway will still be filming in New York and splitting time in Los Angeles for season 6 solely to accommodate Heidi Klum’s busy schedule and family life. The show is scheduled to be back full time in New York for season 7.

    Here’s a good explanation from EW.com - HollywoodInsider

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Dave
    On behalf of Lifetime

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hey guys! Check the revision: PART of Season 6 will be in LA, back to NY for 7.
I found it going to Mo's site; she got word from someone at Lifetime, and the EW site's been updated too.

I love the Gunn but give it up for Uncie Nick! He's a different kind of uncle!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't know if I'll be able to watch anymore. It would be like watching an old friend in a hostage video.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I was trying to be calm and withhold judgement on this whole thing but PR is unfortunately looking more sucktastic by the day. Hopefully PR Canada will still be posted on YouTube.

  69. What the hell is in LA? I've been there once and all I remember is cars. Pfooey.

    Jeez! There's stuff here....

I could very well counter with:
I've been to New York once and remember all the cars there. (IMHO, traffic was scarier there.)
But, I did embrace the city for its differences and charm. Folks, LA is not hell.

Yeah, yeah, I know some of you beg to differ! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  75. This is so sad. So I figure I can watch 1 maybe 2 more seasons. Once they move to L.A. it will change the entire character of the show. Tim will be gone and Nick is no Tim, not even close. What would be even more sick is if they tried to get Jeffrey or Santino. Sigh. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Jenster said:
"Good God, not La-la Land. They'll force Tim to wear bronzer."

*snort* that image made my day! Maybe Duchess of Orange will give him some tips before he heads out. Instead of an ice skating challenge they'll put everyone in rollerblades on the beach...

TLo, thanks for the update about the split season. Things get curiouser and curiouser, and NOT in a good way. I understand those who are hollering about "change is BAD" and lord knows I've been kvetching about the move to Lifetime. This is a bit too much too soon when it comes to changing things around.

The fans just wanted a better, fresher PR after this previous season of pro designers who weren't willing to make an ass of themselves on camera. Now it sounds like nothing is sacred about the show and anything could go - even Tim. And the day that happens, "me no watchey" either. This is a little scary.

Be careful what you wish for kittens, you just might get it in spades!

    ReplyDelete
  77. PR-LA with Uncle Nick is actually a fairly excellent idea (maybe Santino can pop in every now and again looking for Andrae)! However, L.A. will never be New York and it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. See, L.A. would have been a great venue for contestants like Elisa and SweetP, and hell, even Santino. There are just certain designers from past seasons who fit that Left Coast sensibility much better and whose output would have made the cut if only...

Maybe they should have PR-LA be the return of auf'd contestants just to see how they do in a different environment. You know, one with less import. (She says, pissing off every designer who shows at L.A. fashion week)

Like chica la bouche, Kanani, and Milla, I'm a Left Coaster too and I just don't see L.A. as being as fashion-y as New York. Only Uncle Nick can save us (thanks Anon 3:20)

    ReplyDelete
  78. LA? That's too much. That's like moving the show to a foreign land. They already did that. It's called Project Runway Canada.

    ReplyDelete
  79. No comment regarding Tim? Me no watchy if no Timmy. End.of.Story.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Since I am a left-coaster who has never been to NYC I will be sad to see it leave. Could this be the beginning of the end of PRNY?

I like to think positive and hope that they will be having a PRNY and a PRLA so we can watch twice as much. Someone suggested Iman/Tim and Heidi/Uncle Nick-- that sounds great to me.

TLo-- what do you see happening in your crystal ball?

    ReplyDelete
  81. As a poster already said, I'll bet that Iman will host the NY PR while Heidi hosts the LA PR.

Also, I don't really get what the big uproar is...will the designers be exclusively from LA? Doesn't PR currently recruit designers from all over the country anyway? PR seems like such a huge bubble, it's not like the designers really interact that much with the outside world while they're on it, anyway, except for judging, occasional walks through the city/Met, and the runway show at Bryant Park...but they can always import judges and have the designers show at Bryant Park anyway.

I will be interested to see how PR LA "brands" itself, though. Producers might feel the need to distinguish it significantly from PR NY, in which case they might latch onto some of the tackier, more unfortunate aspects of LA.

The more I think about it, the more I think this kind of a split PR might open the potential for some interesting things...like ultimate design battles between both groups of PR, guest judging by Iman and Heidi, swapping of mentors, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Then again, as per Lillithcat, maybe this won't even be an issue...

    ReplyDelete
  83. As me and my Trekkie friends would say, we will merely treat S6 as "non-canon." (yes bitches that was a joke, please)

LA's Fall Fashion Week was in March this year. They certainly won't need decoy collections in next year's finale...unless they skip a bunch of weeks, the season will end long before Fashion Week rolls around.

If there's no Tim Gunn or Heidi, it might as well be Project Runway Canada/UK/Micronesia. It just ain't the same. If Uncle Nick takes Tim's job, it might at least be amusing to watch as he instructs every designer in the room to consider turning their garment into a bias cut dress or fishtail gown...in every single episode...

    ReplyDelete
  84. Uncle Nick really bugs me. A C-grade designer does not make a good mentor. And I hate his attitude --so superior. Feh.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yeah...welll for all you Heidi suck-ups, there you go....The mallification of Project Runway...it will become " Project House-frau's of the Orange Runway"....ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I've heard that Parsons is moving their fashion building facilities, in which case the PR set area might not be available. I don't know when this is happening, but it might be a factor for the move. Why all the way over to LA and not some other NYC building, I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Ha! Ha! Hahahahahahaha!

    I can see the episodes:
    1) What to wear to Whole Foods Beverly Hills or Santa Monica Farmers Market.
    2) Venice Street Gear (see pasty veiny contestants walking along boardwalk)
    3) Your red carpet moment. (yawn...boobs and legs...again)
    4) What to wear to "insert club name of the instant"
    5) Update the Valley Girl Look
    6) Bo Derek: what does a 60 year old Playboy Bunny want for lunch? If Bo isn't available, insert Priscilla Presley.
    7) Design a garment for High School Musical XXVI.
    You get the picture.

  91. Every time I think it's gotten as worse as it could possibly get, there's a new low.
I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be watching much of Season 6; this is just like what happened to Top Model.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I can already see "designer" Lauren Conrad as a guest judge.

Instead of a Macy's or Banana Republic Challenge, we will have a Juicy Couture challenge, with the winner's outfit being sold exclusively at Kitson.

Instead of a weight loss makover, we will get a "dress a Scientologist" challenge.

Another challenge will be "design a papparazzo-proof dress for a hard-partying celeb, so she can get in an out of cars without flashing her junk.

I would say more, but I have to go throw up now.

That will suck worse than "Sex in the City: Dothan, Alabama." I can not believe` they are even SERIOUS!

  102. I could even accept the show going to Miami or Chicago or San Francisco for a season... or Paris or London or Milan or Berlin... but NEVER Los Angeles!!!

  104. Joy. Another television show set in LA. Hell, I'd PREFER to see PR set in Duluth or something if it meant I didn't have to be subjected to the usual LA D-listers (the lovely Kathy Griffin aside) once again.

"Maybe they could have a challenge to redesign "mom jeans" and a crochet vest."

Or, better yet a holiday-theme crochet vest.

    So long, PR.

  107. Well kids, we have our first Lifetime challenges:

    design outfits for Heidi and Spencer;

    design a Depends cover for Betty White;

design something that makes people think LA isn't a fashion backwater.

I don't like it, but I don't think it's necessarily the end of the world either. Truth be told, fashion came mainstream the last few years through Hollywood, not Broadway. Fashion magazine covers feature starlets more than models, and red carpet fashion is what 90% of the public views as couture. It does track nicely with Lifetime's more Main Street demographic and diverges from the more elitist and intellectual approach to fashion common among the New York fashion set.

Never mind. It IS the end of the world.

  108. Lifetime Television? LA? No mention of Tim Gunn? Are they *trying* to make me throw myself down onto the sofa, sobbing, a la Austin at the end of the Sarah Hudson challenge?
