Twizzler Woman! The whole world is waiting for you!

Fighting for your rights! In your candy tights!

A Princess from a magical (Long) island, Twizzler Woman has been sent to the world of man(hattan) to show the world that emotions are for the weak. Raised by a society of strong-willed, yet emotionless women, TW disguises herself as fashion designer Jillian Prince in order to teach young women everywhere that they don't need love and they don't need men. They need clothes.

Oh, Kittens. There has been much sturm und drang in the RunGay household over Jillian's dress.

See, Lorenzo hates the dress. HATES it. Tom doesn't exactly love the dress, but he thinks it was a gutsy move to make it completely out of candy and, all things considered, it turned out remarkably well.

Before we get to that, would it kill this chick to actually let some emotions register on her face? She was apparently freaking out over her garment and yet her facial muscles barely moved and her voice remained monotone the entire time. Between her and VictorYA it's like they're pumping mood inhibitors into the workroom. You're on TV, bitches! Entertain us!

Anyway.

Look, it's not like it's some sort of ground-breaking, fashion-forward design or anything. In fact, if you put a cowboy hat on her, she'd look like she works in a rodeo.

But Tom can't help being impressed with how well it turned out, given her material choices.

Lorenzo's not as forgiving. He says it was her problem that she chose such ridiculous materials to begin with. If they'd been ordered to work only with candy, then this probably would have been a winner. As it is, the only reason the judges liked it was because it was made of candy, not because it was actually a nice-looking garment or anything.

It's difficult to assess her design decisions because using Twizzlers was the only design decision she made. After that, she really didn't have much leeway. Armor-like bustier? Check. Candy fringe? Check. We're done here.

Sure, it's well-executed, as far as that goes. But extensive use of fabric glue does not a designer make.

Seriously, you should have seen Lorenzo on the couch. The whole time he was "If those goddamn judges spew all over her for this piece of shit, I'm gonna scream." Well, they did and so did he. Face it, she's a judges' pet and she'd pretty much have to smear shit on her model to get them to hate her at this point.

Still, Tom maintains that she stuck to the spirit of the challenge and made something whimsical and one-of-a-kind. Was it a somewhat obvious design? Sure. But she's the only one who had the balls to not resort to simply ripping up pillows for her materials. Maybe she shouldn't have been in the top 3, but she certainly deserved to stay another week.

Just frikkin show some emotions every now and then, girl. Or we're gonna start calling you Ms. Spock.

It looks like it fits well in the picture where the model turns on the runway, but in every other shot of that bustier is fug.

Lorenzo, I will scream with you.

This garment to me was stiff and ugly. I am shocked that all 4 judges loved it. I could see if some of them loved it but not all. My roommate and I were equally divided on this one. I think Lorenzo has a point, if everyone had to use candy to make their outfits, I might be less repulsed by it.

I really admire the concept and the fact she went with it but I just wish it fit her model better. there really were better looking outfits on the runway in my opinion.

I don't know. I don't think it's the most gorgeous thing, but I think that closing the gap in the front may have helped.

I was surprised that she didn't win, really. I was expecting a LOT more risk reward. Remember Season 2?

Hate it, hate it, hate it. Like a cowgirl in a strip club. And it didn't fit.

I lost my shit when the judges oohed and aahed all over it. Blech.

I agree that design-wise, it's nothing to write home about. But I do think that using candy was more in the SPIRIT of the challenge than ripping up fugly pillows. Hell, I was hoping they'd all use at least one edible thing. To me, running for the pillows and stuff was the equivalent of buying all the ribbons at the food store in the first season. Weak. Admittedly, this is no cornhusk dress; but I still think the risky materials earned her a spot near the top.

GothamTomato said...

But doesn't it figure that the skinny girl would bypass the chocolate, and go for the Twizzlers?

I've been wondering about the subdued personality too, but I had attributed it to lack of carbs.

wow i totally disagree with you guys on this episode. i thought that rami's dress was a cacophony of ugly (and i said something similar to lorenzo while watching it - only i said it about rami's dress) and this was very cute. Tim actually compares it with the cornhusk dress in his blog - not unfavorably i might add. also he explains that she couldn't use glue on the twizzlers and had to handstitch them all on. i know it was just a throwaway line from you, but still.

the skirt moved nicely and the whole thing looked fun. i really quite like it.

Anonymous said...

her model loooks like a giant rabbit. i cant stand either of them. and ramis dress looked like some futuristic piece of crap that no woman, or man, ould ever wear!!! NOT WEARABLE

GothamTomato said...

...as for the dress: Yes, it was a little Annie Get Your Glue Gun, but I think it was clearly in 3rd place. Rami & Chris were clearly the top 2, and Jillian was ahead of the pack that was behind them.

I think it was on Tim's blog where I read that she did have to hand sew the Twizzlers on, and they were artfully arranged.

I think the thing with Jillian is she is so focused on her goal, that she is not playing the reality show game. She brought the crazy in her audition tape, but it now seems like that was just a persona to make her castable. Once in the workroom, she is ilke a lazerpointer & she's not letting any drama, or creating any drama to sidetrack her. Smart cookie. Maybe dull cookie, but smart cookie. That's what it seems like to me.

also please make something that does not "look like Jillian" - flaring miniskirt. I'm sick of the look.

Anonymous said...

Either that, gothamtomato, or she was off her meds the day she made the video and has since been Prozac'd into submission.

As for the dress, I think it would have been better to use the candy on either the top or the bottom but it was too much for both, esp. since that darn bustier didn't fit well at all.

Anonymous said...

I didn't think that the bustier fit all that well. It looked really big on the sides. I hate the fact that she is obviously one of the judges' favorites. That was evident in the previous challenge when she was praised for her dress even though she didn't use any of the model's clothes to make it. This just adds more proof.

Anonymous said...

I am conflicting feelings about the dress. Good for daring to use candy, not a good fit in the bodice.

I kept wondering why Jillian was wearing Mork's suspenders. Does Robin Williams know about this?

Anonymous said...

I thought that Jillian executed her design well, and thought that it might win, simply because she'd earn points for risk-taking.
It is a bit costume-y. Imagine if Chris had sent that bustier down the runway-can't you hear MK shrieking in angst?

She does get a lot of love from the judges.

BTW-How about a challenge in which Jillian canNOT use any shade of red or orange?

Davy said...

I liked it and I give her props for not going for the obvious pillows like everyone else. While the bustier isn't great, then again, I ALWAYS hate bustiers that seem stiff as lead. The fact this one was made of Twizzlers mitigated my hate of those sorts of things.

The bottom half -- I LOVED it. It really moved on the runway, and sadly, no one else's did -- even though they mostly used fabric. Not a cowboy/western garment so much as a Jillian-version of a flapper dress, and the cute, fringy movement of the beading gave it some elegance that made me declare this to be how Laura Bennett would have approached this challenge (only without the bustier, and instead some plunging neckline).

That girl is on some crazy anti-anxiety med's, Or she has to be to go this long into this show and not show ONE emotion.

I think that rather than being OFF the meds for the audition tape, she was on. And now...untreated depression can give you flat affect. and girl has affect as flat as the prairie.

As a garment, it sucked. As a piece of art made of candy? I was rather fond of that Twizzler mosaic bustier.

Anonymous said...

Excessive Botox exposure in utero, perhaps? Fell into a vat of Paxil as an infant?

The fact that the the bustier was two dimensional (even skinny models aren't that flat) killed it for me.

Sorry, that outfit was just a babystep above macaroni-on-construction-paper art.

I'm not a Jillian fan but give her credit for the spirit of the design. I am still angry from the last challenge where she just did her own thing.
While watching the marathon, I noticed that Jillian's top she is wearing while sitting next to Rami during runway show for SJP challenge looks VERY similar to the top her model wore on the faux pas runway, anyone else??

Anonymous said...

Why didn't designers use more candy? Hersheys doesn't make candy with holes. Twizzlers are hollow--that's as close as you get. Some of their gums are soft enough to put a needle through. I'm surprised no one used them like beading. So everyone was left with wrappers, promotional decorations and accessories.

Why were the judges focused on whimsy this time? I blame Zac Posen. Previous "design with stuff" challenges focused wearability. Zac wanted to see whimsy.

Anonymous said...

I thought she deserved kudos (wouldn't that have been funny if they'd given out candy Kudos on the runway to the top 3? But it's not a Hershey's brand. Pardon me please, I digress) for using actual candy on her piece. Compared to some of the extremely safe stuff (Kevin) and the seriously whacked stuff (VictorYA) made out of pillows, I think Jillian took a huge risk and made it work.

Did I think it was pretty? No. Wearable? Ugh, no. But true to the challenge? Yes.

I still think Chris should have won, or at least placed higher than Jillian.

I'm with Tom on this one; as a dress this was not that great but for this challenge I thought it was impressive.

I think Jillian tried to do what this stupid challenge should have been about. It was a candy store, for crying out loud! I just didn't find making clothes out of pillows to be very exciting. And I don't think it's possible to make clothes out of bars of chocolate so I don't know what else the designers were supposed to do.

She did look a little Linda Carter in that picture. LOL!

Anonymous said...

I give her credit for using candy.

Ripping up pillows and sewing tissue paper were the "safe" choices that the other designers made.

I don't like the outfit, but I think she did a swell job with the materials.

Sewing Siren said...

I actual thought Jillian should have won. I am not crazy about the silhouette. Together the bustier and fringe skirt are a bit much. But it moved so wonderfully on the runway. I liked that the candy looked like beading. And what a never say die work ethic that kid has. Kudos to you, sugar!

I don't fault the other designers for not using candy. They were told that they could choose anything in the store. If the judges had wanted really wacky designs then they could have restricted the designers' choice of items.

Our Sissy Bear has experience working with food, and he knew better than to go there for this challenge.

Maybe it was her "evil but much more fun to party with" twin sister who did the audition video, the one who can't sew but can get herself cast on a reality TV competition show. Then they replaced her with the twin who can sew but lost her personality in a tragic gardening accident.

I admired the use of candy, but the bustier floated on the model's torso like a piece of posterboard. (although I have to give the models props this go-around. I saw a lot more smiles and personality this time...unless they had been directed to act like a zombie.)

USO Robot look number 3 -- the "Candy Version."

I actually like the bustier, but the skirt is a little too Rockette at Christmastime.

Anonymous said...

I didn't like that very much at all. Yeah it was creative, but that doesn't make it beautiful. She should not have been in the top 3.

This was just a so-so creation.

Anonymous said...

I liked it very much and agree with GothamTomato that it was a clear 3rd place look behind Rami and Chris. I also agree with Saskia that if she had shortended the twizzlers on the skirt and used the dark cherry, it would look very much like the Harley dress from that video.

While the bodice was a but chunky, and the plastic holding the two wings together was distracting, I admired the skill to sew soft candy and it was definately the most in line with the siprit of the challenge.

As a candy junkie though, I do know that Twizzlers makes a smaller "bites" version that looks like the underside of a cowry shell with two short lobes connected side-by-side. They must not have been available cause they would have been tres easy to use for something like this.

As for her composure, sure it may not be as exciting as watching a shetangi or santino, but with Ricky and Victorya and others, there is plenty of drama to go around. I have a feeling that it can't last forever and once they lose some more sleep and get closer to the winner, it will all break loose.

Anonymous said...

I didn't really like this challenge much at all. I thought everyone would grab the pillows and "safe" materials, and that's pretty much what happened. Overall, the challenge seemed like a rehash of stuff this show's done before. Like many of the previous posters, I didn't much like what Jillian made but give her props for using real food. (If Twizzlers can be called real food!)

Hi Jillian! Thanks for stopping by!

Anonymous said...

The fact that she was the only one who used actual candy in her design bumped her outfit up a notch for me, and I would have given her the win over gorgoeous Rami's gorgeous creation just for taking the risk. And it was well-made (for a Twizzlers dress, that is).

Anonymous said...

Love the theme "song!"

I truly thought the challenge should have included the line "at least one item used should be edible." I mean, chocolate stains can be hard to get out, so why not create a tye-dye effect? (yes I am talking to you Sweet P who was trying to creat their own patterned fabric) And I know I saw some ginormous bars of chocolate being hefted about the workroom - what happened to those?

Do I think Jillian should have won? Nope. Do I think she got more into the spirit of the competition? On this one, yes. She used candy!

Lilithcat said...

The look itself wasn't bad, though it wasn't anything to write home about, and kudos to her for using actual candy.

But when the model moved to the right, the bustier moved to the left! That's just wrong.

Anonymous said...

I didn't really like this but I had to applaud how she used candy to make it, especially since she was the only person who really used edibles. Kevin's Rollo buttons don't count...

And how cute was her model, helping sew on the licorice!

Anonymous said...

This ensemble doesn't look as good in photographs as it did on the runway. When the model was walking I thought it looked amazing and it seemed to fit surprisingly well. In the photos you can see that the bustier is too big and too stiff but it sure looked great going down the runway. I thought the bustier looked like a beaded mosaic while the skirt looked fringed. She used the Twizzlers to create two very different effects. I think she did a fabulous job and really captured the spirit of the challenge. I think she certainly deserved to be in the top 3. All the top 3 looks were really strong in different ways and I would have been happy with any of them getting the win.

Best work of the season so far from just about everybody.

Anonymous said...

You know, I came here to make some snide comment, but she is so boring that I am just not even inspired to do so. NEXT.

Anonymous said...

I think either piece paired with something really basic would have been ok (but not great), but the two together were just way too much. The skirt had a cute swing, even if pieces had started falling off. The top was so stiff that when the model swayed, the bustier stayed straight and nearly came off her! And what was with the shiny clear plastic thing in the middle? Plus, you have this odd gladiator breastplate paired with a cowgirl flapper skirt - it just didn't make sense to me.

It's nice that she used candy, but really, it wasn't a requirement, and there were good reasons the other designers opted for pillows and wrapping. I give props for spirit but it stops there. She would not have been in my top three.

Anonymous said...

In all the discussion of "to use candy or not to use candy" no one has mentioned Rami's "beaded" purse made with GoodNPlentys and other candies. I didn't see it til I watched the rerun last night. That was adorable!

I liked Jillian's concept. Her bustier might have fit better if she'd used fabric rather than plastic, but I think it was a shrewd move to use the plastic to retain the shape of the design of the twizzlers. If she'd used fabric, who knows which of the judges might have lost an eye as bits of licorice flew off in all directions as the model walked the runway.

BTW, I think her fabric came from those huge Twizzler pillows that she had under her suspenders as they left the store.

Jenn said...

HATED the fit on the bustier, but the skirt was okay.
Big deal, she used the candy and whined about how much work she did. Try telling that to Chloe Dao, who glued about six million leaves on her dress in the garden party challenge, AND made a skullcap!

That said, I think Jillian makes the top 3.

About her demeanor, folks, there's too much control over those emotions - she's playing it cool for the cameras now. Most of us saw that squirrelly audition tape...I'll bet we are in for a Jillian explosion after a few more episodes!

Unknown said...

I actually liked the Twizzler dress but still think Chris should have won. And Jillian's use of Twizzlers was a HUGE improvement over Crazy Pepper's attempted use of Lifesavers (?) to make whatever the hell kind of outfit she attempted.

Unknown said...

So, let me get this straight. Girl makes a ill-fitting, stiff, unoriginal dress and then stitches on some licorice and comes in second place...

Yeah, the judges are on crack.

I will admit that the swirl of the licorice gives an interesting visual effect, but I think Chris's juxtaposition of the Hershey's Logos was just as impressive and his dress was actually WEARABLE.

And BTW Jeannie Beuller... Christian used hundreds of individual candy wrappers, not pillows and rolls of paper. Granted it wasn't the food itself, but it was just as "in the spirit" as you were. Stop whining. Save Ferris.

Anonymous said...

I thought it was cute. Gutsy (or foolish?) because she used real candy, and the fact that she pulled it off is amazing. You're right, it's not "fashion forward" but I think it needed to be simple to showcase the candy and not go overboard crazy. Still, Rami's was so awesome that I think he deserved the win. I think she deserved second.

Hutchlover said...

The skirt moved beautifully on the runway, and I give her props for using the candy uniquely.

However, that bodice was one hot mess! Come on guys! I expected at least ONE snarky, mean remark about how ill-fitting, ugly and stiff that thing was.

And what's with the red? There are other crayons in the box, Jillian dear.

Ricky actually deserved to be 3rd after Rami & Chris. (I know, I can't believe I'm saying that)

Anonymous said...

BTW, Jillian wasn't the only one to use candy in his/her garment (not counting Rami's purse).

Kevin used Rolos as buttons on his jacket.

Anonymous said...

Dude. I found SOOOO ironic that she was all like (paraphrasing) :"I'm the only one who's fulfilling this week's challenge... (add mocking voice at will)", when just LAST challenge, she cheated by not using the client's clothes, without blinking twice.

That was enough to turn me off. I hate hypocrisy. Ugh.

Apart from that, I'm with Lo, that dress was FUG, yo. And at this point I'm not sure the gaps on the skirt are on purpose or some of the Twizzlers fell off.

Anonymous said...

Well she didn't win, so who cares. The dress was a bit ugly I think, but considering the risk she took, it deserved some praise. It isn't the most awful thing I saw. the bodice was interesting and executed well (except for the tape, but I did feel for her with the time constraint), but it wasn't great fashion.

However, given the challenge and time constraints, she did a commendable job.

Chris's and Rami's were top 2 for me personally, but it's just a difference of taste. I think the judges just liked that she used candy and created a nice look. That's a good enough reason to give her second, but not good enough to give her the win.

the judges decision was rational. That's about the best you can expect. Elisa's dress was ugly and rami's dress was a knockout. (I personally would have sent sweet P home, but understand why they picked elisa).

It seemed like a good 3rd place effort to me, but only because she made it out of Twizzlers. Otherwise, I'm with those who didn't like the bustier zigging while the model was zagging. The skirt didn't make me think cowgirl at the time, but I can see why it did for so many.

And Jillian really does need to lay off the red, and especially the red and black.

I guess that was what someone refered to as titslexia.

But I agree with whoever said that, if she is a favorite, that is deserved. She has, pretty consistantly, made finished, well constructed pieces. Remember that Tiki Barber challenge, when she made pants, shirt, vest & jacket while so many others couldn't finish a shirt & pants? Considering how often we've heard the judges mention poor construction in past seasons, that must count for something for them to see that craftsmanship from her.

--GothamTomato

Until recently, I didn't see much love for Jillian. after all, she sent a sweet suit down in the Tiki-fest and got no response. Also, the outfit she and Rami made for SJP was passed on, and her first as well. So it seems that the Jillian love fest has only come on since the fashion don't team challenge, which makes me wonder if her demeanor isn't part of her appeal for the judges... it can't be just her clothes (1st challenge tutu dress- yuk), her ability to follow the rules (the skinny challenge) or her flamingo dance from the opening credits (nerd alert!).

Anonymous said...

I'm agreeing with Tom today. I think it turned out remarkably well for something made out of candy. And I think she deserves bonus points for using candy (as does Christian for using candy wrappers rather than pillow fabric). However, I wish she would have just called it candy instead of continually referring to "edible" material or product. And I would have loved to have seen Bravo include a requirement that they include some candy in the design.

Anonymous said...

I think in terms of the challenge, Hershey's was more interested in having the looks display the product logos rather than the actual product. Much more effective from a promotional standpoint, which was of course the whole point of the show.

Jillian's looks was so-so. I imagine that if Chris had sent that look down the runway, they'd have eaten his lunch. (Searching under sofa cushions for a twizzler)

I despair that (purportedly) talented designers were forced to choose between using candy or ripping up pillows to make a garment. The whole challenge gave me such a K-Mart feel.

Dave - I'm with you about Chris. I keep wondering things like that - if Victorya had done Elisa's dress would she still be in because it "made a statement"? If Chris did Jillian's "bustier with hot plate boobs" look would they have railed on him for creating a parade float? It's not really all that important, but interesting to think about.

Anonymous said...

The clear stuff in the middle isn't tape, it's from the Twizzlers pillows which had red fabric and then clear and colored vinyl to look like a real Twizzlers bag. She laid the Twizzlers over the vinyl to create the bodice.

Anonymous said...

I'm with Tom on this one. It embraced the challenge, it was a little whimsical, and I thought the work done on the bustier was quite nice, considering the materials and how long it probably took. I gave her credit for being the only one brave enough to really work with candy. It'd be cute for a "Candyland: The MUSICAL!" costume. ;D

Miranda said...

Meh. I'm with Lorenzo -- if the challenge had been to use candy, OK. But it wasn't, so material problems are Jillian's problems. I thought the skirt was sort of cute, but the top was ill-fitted (seriously, I thought the model's boobies were going to fall out) and ugly.

That said, I wonder if I would like it better if it had been done by a designer I like. If Sweet P (who, in a huge surprise to me, is my favorite) had done this, I think I'd be defending it. Or if Chris had (he's my other favorite). (shrug) What can I say, I guess I'm just as unfair as the judges.

OK, bitches. As fellow fags you really should get the Wonder Woman theme lyrics correct.

"The whole world is waiting for you?" -NOT!

"All the world is waiting for you!"
Ah, now, you're all wrapped up in the golden lasso of Truth.

(I remember you even featured Wonder Woman on Project Gay last year, so you really have no excuse for getting these words wrong, especially as the headline.)
Just had to do my part.
Love love love your blog.

Last night I thought that perhaps Jillian could have won. But in the light of day - the Twizzler Dress looks a little Cowgirl with a Heart of Gold....And the clear plastic-y thing in the middle is fug.

The dress is pure costume. It was well made but I agree with Lorenzo - she decided to go with candy so that's her problem if it all fell apart. And yes, not a lot of design going on here.

Glad she didn't win, in hindsight.

However, she is a total teacher's pet. I uttered those very words to the hubby during judging...oh well, what are ya gonna do?? Kinda annoying, no?

I thought what she did was within the spirit of the challenge. I think she did a good job. Remember Keith using shower curtains for the apartment challenge? What's the point?

sorry...bed sheets

I especially hated the clear bit of plastic in the middle. And I hadn't thought of Wonder Woman until now, but you nailed it. Laffity laff.

Rami and Jillian are totally the judges pets. I will be shocked if they both don't make it to fashion week.
I wasn't floored by her design. Andrae got auf'd in season 2 for exactly what she did. She made a garment that was stiff and pushed away from the body. The fit was way off on top. I did appreciate that she got the spirit of the challenge and made a fun outfit.

This dress made me..well...hungry...
What can I say I love Twizzlers...but wanting to eat the dress doesn't mean it's great design...although, some credit for being the only one with the guts to try using actual candy...

I suppose we should just be thankful that she didn't go with chocolate chips and try to do a dotted swiss with her little gluegun...

On the whole I didn't think there was much creativity show-wide...way too many people resorting to pillows...I was waiting for something weird and funfurry from the teddy bears...no such luck...disappointing really...and that Reese's wrapper dress! FUG!

Try a little harder, please...if you're done way before everyone else you might want to think about the reason behind that, princess...

OMG, you guys are right on the money. I cannot believe her lack of emotion or facial expression. She is so freakin' boring ! Not good reality TV at all. Total snoozefest. Give me Princess Puffysleeves any day. That boy is a riot.

Lorenzo, I am so with you baby. The skirt was passable for a flapper costume, I guess, the top, oh. my. god. Never even mind the twizzlers glued on, what was the plastic strip down the middle of the boobs, plus it fit like the plastic armour my son wore for his Halloween costume from Party City, as in didn't, (fit) and finally, I hate her.

lisasabatier said...

Oh, and Sissybear was ROBBED. I liked Kevin's too, sorta.

VitorYA hate her, hate the dress.

I was proud of Jillian for going with the candy. I thought that it was smart -- the judges do like to reward risk-takers*. But I found it hard to evaluate the final design objectively -- I was so pleased and relieved for her that the thing came together at all in the end that I think I glossed over the part where it's not all that.

My concern about Jillian made me realize how much I like her -- and I am at a loss to explain why. I think she's talented, I've liked-not-loved some of her stuff, but there must be more to it than that. Maybe it is some kind of Jewish girl from LI blood-calling-to-blood thing. But I'm not even from LI. Maybe it's the overalls? I just don't know. But I did think the way she jumped up and down about the challenge was adorable (even though I was thinking the whole time: does the girl even eat candy? Or anything? Seriously, she's tiny). I guess that's it, really. I think she's cute as a (candy) button. Or maybe all the Jillian-love beaming out of the judges' eyes every episode have reached me through the television and brainwashed me.

*Although the judges didn't do that with the bottom 2. Why they let Sweet P. squeak by with her booooring dress and let Elisa go because of her, yes, quite ugly but obviously more imaginative garment is beyond me. Sweet P. seems like a nice person, but most of what she's done has been unremarkable at best, ugly and poorly executed at worst. I don't know why she's still there.

lisasabatier said...

Well, maybe it's a Catholic girl from NO kinda thing, but I hate Jillian.

Alex! said...

BTW, I think her fabric came from those huge Twizzler pillows that she had under her suspenders as they left the store.

Oh my!

I think I'm blushing!

This is nothing like Austin's cornhusk dress. His was cute and flirty and a bit tongue-in-cheek. This was obvious, boring, and had a strange see-through strip running right down the model's (rather unflattering) mid-line.

My comments may not be new, but I must put them on the record.

First off, the challenge was to interject Hershey's brand into the design. While a bit more conforming than the S2 plant challenge, I could see some similarities in the judging: Daniel used FRESH FLOWERS (albiet sparingly), while BotoxedRobotWoman used candy in abandon. Others in both challenges may have used the featured material, but not in a way the judges programmed themselves to expect.

As much as I have an aversion to Jillian, I have to admit her Wonder Woman bustier was not half bad. Also obvious is the designers aren't sharing measurements of each others' models in the swaps. Her outfit may have fit her previous model (and her), but tape is not the answer.

Getting the "zaftig" through the torso model probably cost her the win.

Oh, I'm sorry for the sturm und drang in the household. I just hope that one of you is being the Brunnhilde and is thoroughly enjoying the breastplate and horns.

The dress? Eh.
Jillian? Eh. I wrote what I think about her on some other post.

"...as for the dress: Yes, it was a little Annie Get Your Glue Gun", HAHAHAHAHA, all GothamTomato's comments in this thread just killed me!

I liked the dress, I saw flapper not cowgirl, and I thought it was sassy and fun. I also liked the patterning of the red twizzlers on the bodice, she could have done boring strips but she mixed it up a little.

I was so hoping SOMEONE would use a ton of stuffed animals and make a faux-fur coat that looked like they skinned a Muppet. That would ahve been hot. But no, we got the Twizzler Boob Wall. Ick.

y'all stooooooooppppppp!

i loved this dress. loved it. absolutely loved it. it's darling, flirty, cute, charming. and it's candy!!!! love. love. love. it.

Tal said...

Hated it. The swirly boobs are ugly. Moreover, the dress looks trampy. If she's imitating any super hero, it's Super Slut. Using Twizzlers would have saved her from elimination for sticking to the spirit of the challenge, but to be in the top 3? No dice.

Also, did anyone else have Chloe Dao/Season 2 flashbacks with Christian's dress? That is, taking hundreds of small little paper things and gluing it to a dress?

Anonymous said...

I've thought about this a little. She HAD to use candy, because she used sooooo little of the designated fabric in the down to size garment. That's why she did what she did-so her ass wouldn't get raked over the coals.

And the thing that you guys aren't getting is THE SKIRT. The short red skirt with fringe says "Damn, I am CUTE!" Mentally, anyhow. In my case, it's more like "Damn, THAT would make me look like one fat OLD ho" but THAT is the appeal of that whole outfit. There's fringe that doesn't look cowboy OR flapper, and it's RED. How much more CUTE could you possibly get?? We don't even CARE about the top, it's the SKIRT!!!

Kanani said...

Yeah, I was surprised that more didn't try to use candy in some way. I think Jillian's dress was directly controlled by what she thought he twizzlers could do --thus, that Annie Get Your Gun skirt.

I thought the most fun dress was Ricki's. It looked like a Hershey's kiss. And I was really glad Chris stepped up and knocked one out of the ball park.

i give her credit for using candy. and the pattern she made on the bustier was nice. but the rest of it was stiff and loud and ugly. the top needed tailoring and the skirt made the model's hips look wide.

jillian did not deserve to be in the top three. risk, or no risk, it wasn't a nice garment. there were better looking outfits this week. at best, this was an interesting costume. had another designer presented it (ahem! chris...), i think it would have been considered bottom three.

Anonymous said...

I just cannot get past that clear plastic window splitting the model's left side from her right... wtf is going on there?!

Not to mention the un-twizzlered fabric between the top and skirt fringe. It looked unfinished to me and kind of like the candy interpretation version of last weeks dress- red with black piping all over again. And I was shocked and horrified by Nina's praises... was waiting for her to follow-up each comment with a big fashion "NOT!" Maybe they are all on 'ludes.

If you want to praise someone for embracing the spirit of the candy challenge, then put Christian in the top 3. At least his garment didn't look like a Halloween costume.

Ew, that looks disgusting! That dress is just gross.

This twizzler Annie Oakley/Brunhilde costume was the ugliest dress I've seen on Project Runway, an accomplishment of some sort. Did you notice the seam on the back of the skirt? It was completely bonkers! Poor Elisa never had a chance. It's a bit much to expect the judges to understand anything so arcane as a literary reference. Gretal is a starving child presented with a house made out of cake and candy owned by an evil old woman who eats children. Being familiar with Grimms' Fairy Tales, I understood perfectly well what Elisa was trying for with her Gretal dress. I think the silver shower caps were suppose to evoke hershey kisses, but they completely threw off the whole design. But it was a thousand times better than that bleeding carcass Jillian presented.

junior goddess nailed it: it's the skirt. i like the top a lot. but that cute little flirty fringey swingy skirt. and RED. red. it's darling. a cute little fuck me skirt. darling.

At home, my husband and I call Jillian "T-1000", of Terminator fame, such is her emotionless quest for domination.

I wish the top was better fitted. It looks like it's leaping away from the model's chest. The photo in "Rate the Runway" really shows this.

It's so boxy and stiff. If she had just curved the bustier a little bit, it'd be halfway cute.

If Willy Wonka designed curtains for a New Orleans bordello and Slugworth stole the idea, this is what it would look like.

I understand that Jillian is not a favorite because she is rather unemotional. That's probably what will save her. I mean, she was worried that her dress would fall apart, and she didn't absolutely freak out! She seems to be one of those people who calms down in a crisis; I would want to work with someone like that. She may not win, but I think she will have legs in the business.

your a bunch of catty fags.. I'd love to see what you all designed lately... It's so easy for you to point the finger and speak shit while sitting on your fat asses on your couch watching the show. I don't see any of you trying out ofr the show or actually doing something with your life. Jillian actually is a great person. I've know her for many years.

I hated the bodice on that thing. It didn't move with her AT ALL, like a bad boob job. But I knew the judges would be all over her like cheap perfume because 1) she used candy and 2) like Daniel Vosovic, she can do no wrong in their eyes.

Yeah, she's a little bit boring -- not as much as VictoRya, but boring enough -- but unlike Vickie, who would be more likely to make someone else erupt, or Ricky cry, which admittedly ain't hard, she has the potential to go ballistic. Just my feeling, and I keep hoping someone will annoy her enough.

Is she a Jewish Princess? I could swear to it.
