Skinny Bitch Speaks!

Tuesday, January 08, 2008 by

Oh, no he didn't!

“I’m still waiting for that really big, wow moment,” he said. The show was better, he insisted, back in the old days. “Everyone now is so damn professional. I want that young, raw talent where it’s more of a risk.”

Also:

“I didn’t wear a lot,” Vosovic said. “Just strategically placed pieces of fabric.”

I have to agree; I only started watching in Season 3, but I think that the show would be better and more exciting if the contestants were SUPER talented folks who weren't "in" the business yet, really hoping for a big break.

I'm also getting really sick of talented, talented people sending fugly garments down the runway because they were given an impossible task to complete in less than a day. PR Producers: Give people the time to realize their visions, and choose the best from an embarrassment of riches. Believe me, there will still be plenty of fugly garments for your audience to laugh at, but it'll be because they were poorly conceived, not rushed to complete.

I have nothing to say about Mr. V, but that bonus video from Nina was cracking me up. Watching her try to find gentle ways to say "fat" was amusing. And then, having the "interview" go from "accentuate your...curves! I'm all about that." to "Kate Moss really is the best style icon" (not a direct quote, I know)...perfect. I'm reasonably confident that Kate Moss' brand of "effortlessness" would look "bag lady" on a plus-sized, medium height suburbanite like myself. Yes, I get what Nina was saying. It was just arranged in a funny way.

Can it be that it was all so simple then, or has time rewritten everyline?

Yes, I agree it was better in seasons 1 & 2. It was more innocent & playful. I don't think the current crop is more professional, (if they were there'd be more wows), they're just more aware of the cameras, and that people will be watching. There may just be more awareness of what is at stake. But if we had the chance to do it all again, would we? Could we? Sigh.

See ya Hubble.

My friends and I have been saying the same thing this whole season. This last challenge had some almost-wow moments, but nothing truly spectacular. Nothing like Michael Knight's Pam Grier dress, or Daniel V.'s Nicky Hilton dress, or too many to mention from season 1.

The contestants, while talented, are almost too composed (hello, Jillian!), the challenges have been lacking and the judges are getting worse. Michael Kors hasn't had one good, witty quip all season and all the judges pretty much agree almost all the time, robbing the viewers of interesting debates about fashion and style.

Gotham: You. Crack. Me. Up!

But it's the laughter we will remember.

He bores me.

Plus, his face looks like a horse - sooo long and narrow.

I agree. What's with the rush? Very few people can produce anything interesting under those conditions. Half of the stuff sent down the runway does not represent their true vision or capability.

Gotham Tomato, too funny!!!

I'm sure Daniel is a lovely person, and talented (really, no sarcasm), but his comments are an example of what happens when we elevate people before they've had half a chance to develop their talents or come close to any idea of who they are with respect to their particular art.

sorry, that's about all I have to say.

Yawn....didn't like him when he was relevant. Don't really care what is going on in his boring little life now.

I noticed they gave the PR Canada (don'thateme) designers about twice the time in their fabric stores and a little bit more time, usually half a day more, in the construction phase. I think it made a world of difference in terms of quality, and I really wish the PR-US folks would put the emphasis back on quality. The drama will still happen, but we'll have significantly better, more interesting designs to look at.

Haha. I thought the same thing, horsey face, but didn't want to say anything. Bless her heart.

I totally agree!! When this lot was introduced to all of us my first thought was....they already have jobs in the fashion industry, why are they on this show? I want to see more raw talent that wasn't ever given a chance or someone with this amazing untapped skill.

I think the problem is the show has become too comercialized. What with all of the special guests and sponsorships. Not to mention the models aren't getting used at all. How many challenges have used the models? Three, maybe? And this week is another without the models.
Not that that is a big deal cause none of them can walk worth a damn.

I don't think he's been overly elevated, I think he's right: And I also think that season 2 had the deepest field of any season - and he was one of them.

The show has lost something very tangible & organic in seasons 3 & 4, & the question is, can it get it back? I don't know.

I think all reality shows run their courses pretty quickly, though most hold on long past their sell-by date simply because they are so comparatively cheap to make.

And I also think that different types of personalities try out when the shows are new & unknown; they're more risk-takers by nature, and maybe that is what accounts for the difference.

Mmmm... Skinny Bitch :-)

And I'm with red7Eric... I remember in season one when they always had until the end of the next day to complete. This year it seems to be end of the day every time.

I guess pickin's are mighty slim nowdays. With the likes of Ricky, VictorYA, Christian, Sweet P, and Elisa being able to get on the show at all.

I think he's still sore they gave the win to Chloe, who was already established. But I agree with him, the show hasn't got the same sparkle this year.

There's almost no bitchery in the interview segments. Either they're editing them all out, or the contestants are in fear of coming off like Jeffrey or Santino.

Beware what you wish for, I guess.

I'd have to say that this is the safest season I've seen.
That's why we liked Elisa so much. She was wacky but really stretched herself.

I agree, borderline boring, and I LOVE the show.

Oh please, aren't his 15 minutes over yet?

But I guess I'll try to have a look at those clothes the next time I'm in Plano, Texas and in need of a bartenders uniform. Isn't that the only location for that "hotel chain"?

DV kind of gets on my nerves, but I have to agree with him here. Cutting down on work time (and play time, for that matter--remember how much freedom they had in S1, and how many seriously entertaining moments came out of that? I loved seeing the contestants hanging out!) results in a boring show. I don't think it's just that they're hyper-aware of the cameras, I also doubt that they have time to fool around and entertain us.

Give them liquor and it will be the best season ever!

Oh I don't know-
wouldn't we say Puffysleeves could be called young and raw?

Oh and by the way was that the party where Jacobs went dressed as a camel toe?
Classy.

I think I have put my finger on the problem with this crew. Not hungry enough. Several have ALREADY shown in Bryant Park so where is the motivation supposed to come from ? Exposure only? I am not a designer but I THOUGHT showing at fashion week was kind of the holy grail of that industry.
