Princess Puffysleeves and Team Star

We love the little shit.

We thought we were going to wind up hating him, but how can you not love a tiny little pocketgay with jacked-up hair, a 14-inch waist, and a predilection for pronouncing everything "fierce" through his nose?

Sure, we wouldn't want to be stuck in an elevator with Princess, but so far, this season is seriously lacking in the wacky department and we're just happy that SOMEONE among these boring professionals is willing to embrace the experience and have fun with it.

To top it off, he's shown himself to be pretty talented, too. He was, after all, the leader of a team which, in our opinion, should have won this week. Granted, it sounds like he just declared himself the leader and Kit and Jack just went along with it, but still.

This? Really is fierce.

Beautiful proportions, perfectly executed and fantastic choice of fabrics.

Going black and white was an inspired choice. Otherwise, all the stripes and patterns would never have worked together. And we love the take on the men's tie. Interpretive, not literal.

We like, but not as much as the previous one.

The silhouette is too similar and it lacks the visual impact. It's good; it's just not as "wow" as the previous piece.

Plus, we're not crazy about the blouse. Too puffy and high-collared to go with a jacket.

Another one to like, which surprises us because if you asked us what we thought of sack dresses over tights, we'd immediately think of the Olsen twins - and that is most decidedly NOT a compliment.

Again, we love the proportions and the fabric choice. Love that neckline, which makes the look.

By the way, in case you were wondering, that's upholstery fringe on the neckline. We have no idea where they used pleather in this collection.

We like the pocket detail too. The only thing we don't like are the sleeves. Little cap sleeves would've worked better.

It really was a great little collection that had a sense of cohesion to it. It showed an intellectual approach and a thought process. It wasn't for every woman out there, but then again, not all fashion should be. It was, to use yet another Nina-ism, truly fashion forward. We think the only reason the judges didn't give it more consideration was because it failed somewhat on the requirements of the challenge. One can't reasonably look at this collection and think of zoot suits, fringe and pleather.

"Our team is pretty fierce, so I called everyone Team Star. Team Star is like hot, like star, like celebrity."

Come on, that's ADORABLE.

Yeah, Christian is starting to grow on me too, but he looks too much like Paris Hilton in glasses and a bad (and badly slipping) toupee.

Couldn't have said it better myself! I disliked the guy at first but now he's cute and a breath of fresh air in the land of boring. Elisa is having the same effect as well.

Agree, 100%. When they said there was a clear winner and then picked Jillian, my husband & I both screamed. We both gasped at that first look, too, and in a decidedly good way. I'd still rather have an Austin model ToteGay, but I do like the clothes.

Andy did say (jokingly) in Rucker's blog that he's supplying the models with coke, so why not some crack for the judges? Sure makes the blogs light up, and isn't that the whole idea?

I LERVE Sister Christian!

And, yes, this collection is fierce.

And I mean that in a good way.

ditto. I was sure I was just going to dislike him.

But he's fun and he's fun to laugh at without being mean. He strikes me as being someone who'd just toss his head like a true diva at any snark.

As far as the designs go, there appeared to be no use of pleather and I found Christian's outfit too messy with all the print & stripes.

OHMYGOD OHMYGOD...I LOVE HER!! Princess rules! The collection is FIERCE! It's amazing, it's like gorgeous, it's like hello?
They should have won this challenge.

I liked these, especially the first look, but can't handle the baby doll over anything anymore. It would have looked better in another fabric choice though.

I couldn't see the pleather either, which was disappointing as I thought that zoot and pleather would go great together if done right. The only fringe I saw was the upholstery fringe, which I personally felt was too subtle to meet the requirement, although a nice accent to the grey. I still feel that the right team won though.

As mentioned by TLo in previous segments, I’m still trying to decide the balance between what is youthful exuberance and what is just obnoxious conceit, but the little devillette is growing on me.

Everytime he says something ridiculous, i have to remind myself that the poppet is ONLY 21. (a very talented 21 year old, but still a baby) And yeah, i never saw any pleather and had to have the fringe pointed out to me, so even tho i loved this collection, it's a good thing they didn't win because they didn't really fulfill the task.

He is like an 8 on the fun scale, true, I just wish he wasn't so damn cocky. THAT is irritating. We also might have to change the drinking game to do a shot whenever Christian says "fierce" since Miss Ricky actually made it through an episode without the waterworks being turned on.

I do predict he goes far simply because a lot of the basics are still fresh in his head -he just graduated like last week.

He has the design chops to have a great career, but I wonder if he has the busniess sense and the maturity it takes. You don't become Proenza Schouler unless you can take criticism which he seems to have a problem with. Cutting off Nina because you only wanted to hear what SJP has to say could NOT have been a good move.

Um, are you guys hungover?

#3 is a flour sack. Period. No wait, I take it back! Mattress ticking! No, wait! Prison jumpsuit material. Ick.

#2 would have been okay as individual pieces. Worn together, it's ass.

#1 is growing on me. Slowly, very slowly.

Is it me, though, or do all Christian's models look like him?

You know, I think the slapdown he got in week two did the boy some good. I think he realized that not everyone thinks he's all that and a bag of chips and decided to buckle down and prove himself. Not a bad thing.

Fierce!

I'm still a little confused re who made what. Are Bravo ratetherunway pix mislabeled?

(no tv, waiting for Outubeyay)

I really dig all three looks, but agree that the smock's sleeve length isn't quite right. I wonder if 3/4 sleeves level with the top of the pockets would work. Maybe with a cuff that echoes the pockets? Or, would that be corny?

Christopher is good TV and god knows the bitch can sew, but I cannot bring myself around to Christopher love yet. My gay love on PR4 was (whimper) Chris, of course, that good-natured BFF-type gay that I would share lattes with any day of the week. Christopher? not so much.

However, we hetero gals still have plenty of PR4 gays to adopt as our own dear BFFs for the rest of PR4. Carry on!

she's not growing on me.

it may happen. i hated malan initially, and now i adore. ditto laura.

i find him terribly irksome, like the buzzing little mosquito in the bedroom after the lights go out on a hot summer night. i just want to smack the fucking thing and move on.

and the clothes. seriously? as ms. place said, the lengths of those two skirts are dreadful and just look frumpy.

and the babydoll or sack dress or whatever the hell that silhouette is . . . name one real live breathing human woman upon whom that thing would be flattering. it didn't even look good on the model. it's just not an attractive silhouette unless you're 6 years old and headed for bed.

that's the view from this opinionated, grumpy chair on a frigid friday morning when i should be at home in front of the fire, but have to work instead. it sucks, therefore everything sucks. :-) but truly, this batch of garbage would suck any day of the week.

keeping an open mind on the annoying little brat. i just want some of the glamour and glitter and wit and charm of the last seasons. sigh. and then there's chris . . . . boo hoo hoo hoo. but at least chef tom's straight. thank goodness.

Maybe the purse, shoes, and belt count as pleather.. I don't see much fringe either, just on the edge of the neck tie. That being said I do think this was the best collection. Perhaps it didn't win because he failed to use the trends, but following the rules of the challlenge doesn't always seem to matter much.

1st Look - Christian
2nd Look - Kit
3rd Look - Jack

Right?

Alyssa said...

I like Elisa for the same reason...at least someone is bringing something funny to the table.

According to the website, Christian designed the outfit for Jack's model, and Jack made his outfit for Christian's model. Any thoughts?

gothamtomato said...

I think the correct team won. I'm just not all that enamoured of this collection, certainly not as much as TLo.

Just because they used stripes doesn't say "Zoot Suit" to me, and where's the fringe? Where's the Pleather (not that I have any great desire to see ANYTHING with fringe or pleather ... but that WAS the challenge, right?)

I think there is definitely a crush developing between little miss thing and Jack ... the piggy backs, the toting, the teaming up ...

He's a cutie, but with the easy propensity toward the incredibly annoying.

Anonymous said...

Hm, Pleather. I assumed it was on the pocket welts of the sack dress, and other trimmed areas that just weren't obvious.

Giselle "Hinata" Ascott said...

He does grow on you. Maybe because, to me, he lights that little spark of familiarity of the memorable characters of season's past. And you guys are right, the rest of the cast (besides my biased-love Steven and poor poor Chris) are just BORING. Of course Elisa is just in a world of her own. Hell she could do the entire show just by herself and it would probably end up more interesting than what we got now.

Anonymous said...

Right now, he and Elisa are the only reasons to watch.

Has Princess actually used his own feet to walk into the work room yet? I've seen him as a Tote, and as a Princess Backpack, but I don't know if he's deigned to cross the threshold of the building with his own limbs yet.

Which kinda makes me love him more.

finding the filth said...

agreed! when heidi said there was a clear winner for this challenge, i thought for sure princess was finally going to win. i still can't believe they went with jillian's. whatever. princess will have his day. and i'm almost certain he'll be in the top three.

and count me among those who have warmed up to him. previews lead me to believe he would be obnoxious and temperamental, but he's been really genial to the other designers and he's now the last bit of fun left on the show. (especially with what looks like jack's early departure coming next episode.) plus, he's been team leader twice, both times completely drama-free.

i'll never be able to wear a thing he creates, but for now, princess for the win!

also, kit is shaping up to be a very close contender. i thought for sure she'd be annoying too, but she seems like one of the nice ones. and she's got some serious skills.

Anonymous said...

I know more about enforcing rules than I do about fashion, so the fact that their trends weren't particularly well-represented in their outfits was a turn off for me. It is nice to make something beautiful, but if it doesn't meet the requirements (of the challenge or a client or a budget or a timeframe) then it isn't good.

He really is the "raw talent" of the likes of Jay from Season 1. His designs definitely have a point of you. I think he will be final 3.

I'm in LOVE with Christian and not afraid to admit it. He's absolutely adorable and he reminds me of a 16 year old adorable gay friend of mine. I can't NOT love him!! But I'm one of the few who has always loved him.

It's Elisa who's really grown on me. I was expecting a vincent or angela, but instead she seems sweet and awesome. Likewise I'm enjoying Sweet Pea more than I thought I would and Kit isn't boring like I thought she would be. And Stephen is Emmett-adorable.

Lilithcat said...

Just because they used stripes doesn't say "Zoot Suit" to me

And the fact is that stripes don't = zoot suit. What makes a suit a zoot suit is it's shape: big padded shoulders (ah, there, Chris!), tapered trousers, draped jacket, wide lapels.

Anonymous said...

OK - putting on my brave hat to post a fashion opinion here. (For despite being a raging fan of all things PR no one would ever describe me as "in" to fashion). Anyway - I'm thinking the fringe was shown in all the stripes. Every outfit has stripes...fringe is "stripey" no? Just a thought.

And for whatever reason, Christian's outfit totally grabbed me when I saw it come down the runway. I haven't been that enamored with his other pieces but that one really worked for me. I thought this was the best overall collection as well.

Princess Pocketgay is adorable in the same way that those little dogs in handbags are adorable. As long as you don't have to hear them yip for more than five minutes and they don't poop in your purse, they're faaaaabulous!

I was every bit as cocky and self-centered when I was 21 but, alas, nowhere as talented as he.

Gorgeous Things said...

When Princess P. did his little pirouette in front of the mirror, well, he had me. He's still annoying (love the elevator riff!) but the kid's got talent.

Christian has also grown on me somewhat, although the lack of being able to take criticism was supremely annoying. I do think it's funny how every time I'm watching PR and Christian's on the screen, my husband walks by and says something about how irritating Christian is. (BTW, hubby is not homophobic and has a few gay family members.) Some of it has to do with the hair, I think.

I am concerned about how Christian will enter the workroom if Jack gets auf'd soon? Rami's also got some guns...

I agree a cap sleeve would have worked way better I would have loved the dress and maybe worn it (after taking the fringe off) if it had just had the one detail. as it is it just isn't "finished" to me.
Hey at least it isn't a "Bell" sleeve like Vincent from last season! gahh I hated his sleeves.

Anonymous said...

Pocket Princess is amusing in small doses on TV, but would annoy the hell out of me in real life. If I had to listen to either him or Jillian talk for more than 30 seconds straight, I'd end up running out of the room with my hands over my ears humming 'The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

I'm not getting the TLo love for these outfits. The first one (Christian's) is okay but I don't get what fashion don't he was trying to cure. The second look was frumpy and that third dress was truly awful. Even frumpier. When I saw that neckline, it screamed muumuu. Chris's dress with or without the jacket was far more chic than this. Sorry, boys, but to me this was fashion forward only if by fashion forward you mean fugly.

Who should have been the winner? Nobody. They should have just said "No one wins" and aufed Ricky.

Anonymous said...

Was the weird tie on the first garment made of pleather?

I love Princess ToteGay!
Always have. I remember being that kind of bad ass in my 20's & it served me well.
For about 5 minutes.
But I earned a thick skin & how to believe in myself from the experience (alot!).
Baby's got skillz. I'm rootin' for the Princess to make it to the finals w/ Rami & Elisa.

Love this group - they should have won. I would wear Christian and Jack's designs in a second. I also would wear Rami's - if I were going to a square dance.

I love Christian and have since episode one. He's too adorable and seems to have a sense of humor about himself. Letting Jack carry him in a purse shows that he doesn't take himself too seriously.

And I agree that this collection should have been the winner.

Anonymous said...

So far I'm finding Christian to be amusing, but I suspect that could change quickly if we saw him in larger doses or if he starts to turn mean.

I can't agree with the love for this collection. That first look is so busy it makes my eyes hurt. The blouse on the second one is awful--it ruins the whole look for me. And the gunny sack is just plain ugly.

I find Princess a little endearing. A little. Loved her twirl and she had the best design on the runway this challenge.

I can't see holding a conversation with her for any length of time...unless, of course, it was while drinking large quantities of wine, sitting in front of the television on a Wednesday night and snarking about PR. She seems like she'd be a blast in that scenario.

Anonymous said...

Christian is a precious little shit and I've adored him since day one.

PR Canada is up on You Tube, and AGAIN, it is fabulous. Steven is hilarious in part 4, and MG looks stunning in makeup, sans glasses. Every design is super interesting and engaging.

I was thrilled that Kit ran over to Christian and Jack "because they were the most fun and that's one of the reasons I'm here, to have fun."

And yes, I liked this collection more than the death-by-denim stuff.

Anonymous said...

Okay, I can admit when I am wrong. Though my first impression of Christian wasn't favorable (the reasons for which are still true), his foibles have become enduring, so he has been moved from my "don't like" category. Your comments were spot on for this collection. I thought it should have one as well

Anonymous said...

The first look is Kit's. Then Christian's, then Jack's.

They were probably wise to keep the pleather in the accessories; that stuff is a bitch to sew. But it would have been great if they'd put in a panel of it somewhere rather than minimizing it. I would bet they didn't win because they didn't use enough of their required elements. The fringe was minimal also.

I think Kit's outfit was amazing and the best overall -- it has grown on me, I didn't like it at all at first because of all the clashing prints -- but she would not have been eligible for the win anyway.

Jillian's group pretty much went for it and used all 3 "don'ts" all the way around.

Anonymous said...

Kit (whose look is first) is growing on me. Princess has made the same jacket for every challenge -- only the fabric and pockets change. Jack is pretty good also.

Mom said...

This was my fave collection, and I think the only change I would make (would that I could purchase them all) is to render the #3 top a little more form-fitting. I live in a part of the world that sees a loose waistline and immediately schedules a baby shower.

And je t'adore, Princess PocketGay! I love how he tempers his most outrageous statements with little asides like "...in my own mind." There's definitely a sense of self-deprecation that was lacking in Certain Memorable PR Designers who came before (cough-Vincent-cough).

Seth said...

You guys are right, the little shit grows on you. At first he just reminded me of those young little queens who just turned 21 and started going to the gay bars for the first time. The ones who think they are so fierce and think they have everyone swooning at their feet when in reality all the older queens are just laughing at them and treating them like one treats a mesquito.

Over time thought, I do like him somewhat even though he gets on my nerves. I hated Kit at first too. I thought she would be one of those vegan girls who was annoying, but she is ok. Always loved Jack.

GothamTomato said...

THIS was definitely the fun team to be on.

I adore Christian as well. At first I thought he seemed like a spoiled brat, but he's grown on me (in a good way) & he just cracks me up. If he'd only go platinum, he'd look just like the Sydney Opera House.

And he added a new word to the lexicon this week: Ferosh - (not sure how it should be spelled, but it's definately another one to save for his future bobblehead doll).

But I loved that first look. And I would wear it. I'd look like I wasn't dressing my age in it, but I'd wear it anyway.

"suzanne said: Cutting off Nina because you only wanted to hear what SJP has to say could NOT have been a good move."

But I think that was more about him wanting to hear from someone he was a fan of. You can see every emotion wash across his face.

And actually, it was the moment that he asked SJP for a hug, that I fell for him.

I also think that, because he is so young, this might be his first experience at not being the biggest fish in his pond. I remember when I went to art college, what a shock it was. I'd always been the best artist in my school, then I got to a place where everyone had been the best in their school, and it required a big shift in everything you thought about your place in the world. Some couldn't make that shift & some could.

So far Christian looks like he's managing to make that shift.

And as for dissing Nina; remember Santino being so beligerant with her that she said she thought he was going to kill her? And still he made it to the finals. Me thinks Miss Nina likes an opponent strong enough to smack the ball back over the net.

Thank you for posting that! What a great episode. Uncle Nick is so fantastic! And the challenge was great. My bet is that the style icon for next week is Iman herself. She was like a proud auntie with her little nieces and nephews!

I thought this team was going to win, too. But that doesn't mean that I love anything that came down the runway.

It's funny how quickly Christian went from cocky/obnoxious to funny/endearing. I think the fact that he's evidently talented, and can sew and finish like a total pro helps. He's got the chops!

Or maybe it's just that Ricky is SO UNBEARABLE that everyone else is downright charming in comparison.

Looking at Team STAR!'s collection again has torn me up inside.

On the one hand, my nerd-crush on Jillian (Jenny Bueller, anyone?) has tainted me with possibly false affection for her Cracker-Barrel-holiday-denim cookie assortment.

On the other hand, I really think Team STAR! did some fantastic outfits that are growing on me the more I look at them.

I want to see Jenny Bueller win because her weird Long Island JAP thing tugs my heart-strings, but I think Kit/Christian/Jack (Kitstiack? Chrackstit?) may have quietly knocked one out of the park here. Even the 'tater sack has some killer details....

Yes. It is kind of impossible to second guess them, but if I were the leader I would probably ask the other two to incorporate one other trend into their "look" for instance- Fringe with Zoot (kind of a twenties ganster vibe), Zoot with Pleather, and Pleather with fringe. I also think the leader should be in charge of picking the fabric for all three looks and it looks like Jillian and Christian did that (maybe Ricky too).
I think that I would be the last to be picked for the first team challenge though,(but only the first one ;).

He's really amusing, and yes, he can sew. Couldn't believe they chose that other team for the win, except for the fact that I couldn't find any pleather in Team Star's Collection. (And how funny was that?)

Anyway, I love him and hope he stays till the end. I'm reading the posts as the show airs in Canada to avoid spoilers.

Go, girl!
