The Wall Street Journal has a print and video interview with Michael Kors.
"Mr. Kors, a colorful speaker who is generally unflappable, clearly enjoys his celebrity. The new name recognition gained from "Project Runway" has helped fuel growth of his company, which has sales of about $400 million wholesale this year, according to a Michael Kors spokesman."
"The show has also helped position his brand, which had targeted women in their late 20s to late 50s, as more youthful. "The show brought in an influx of teenagers who will grow with the brand," he says."
"Dresses are particularly important to Mr. Kors because movie stars wear them on the red carpet and on the covers of magazines. The more arresting the dress, the greater chance of publicity. "You have a hot actress with this gorgeous face, but maybe she is 5-foot-3 and has figure flaws," Mr. Kors explains. "So you put her in a dress that shows her bare arms and a bit of cleavage -- in a bright color. In order to make noise on the newsstand, you have to bang some pots."

I love him, but he needs a shave.
Yikes! That photo! Doesn't everyone have a school picture from third grade that looks just like that?
It seems that Rupert Murdoch's WSJ budget cuts have already stripped the photo department.

"Mr. Kors, a colorful speaker" . . .
eh eh eh eh.
colorful. yes. is that melon? tangerine? just a soft, gentle shade of orange?
i do love the duchess and she is colorful as all get out.
Great interview! I wish more designers would feel the same about the show.
I've worked for Michael Kors for a couple of years and he's very professional, but at the same time he's very down-to-earth - not affected by his success at all, and I admire that. Any PR contestant would learn a lot from him.
Great interview/article. Thank you, Boys!
Wasn't Teri Agins a judge on the show?

I heard that many designers didn't want to be associated with the show; maybe because it's a reality show, I don't know, I forget why, but that was a long time ago.
The man you once called the Persimmon Princess actually looks LESS orange than on PR.
How old / tall is he anyway? It's hard to tell from that video. (Could be 45 and 5'5 or 55 and 5'9.)
The next time I'm busy I'm just going to refer to that period as "noisy times."
Aw, no fair, removing the unflattering photo before all of us could comment!
Oh, wait. This isn't Go Fug Yourself, is it?
I can vouche for his popularity at one point: there sure is a lot more Michael-Michael Kors clothing in my local Marshalls and TJ Maxx. Still haven't found anything that fits in the bust, though (please Mr. Kors, invest in some fittings with models with boobs!).
I think Michael looks great and he's so well-spoken. I like his line (am in the demographic) and especially liked his phrase, "these are noisy times". That is so true. I recently read somewhere that we get more stimulation coming into our lives via Internet, t.v., magazines, travel, etc., in 24 hours than the people who lived in the Viking period got in a lifetime.
Hey, good for the Duchess, right? I say why not utilize your fame to get (further) ahead.
As far as Murder-roch goes. Pfeh. I may give up my WSJ subscription thanks to him.

Michael Kors was born in 1959, so that makes him 48 (or nearly).
anonymous 7:00 pm . . . okay, so you KNOW the man.
answer the question that burns within each of our hearts with a fierceness undiminished by time:
spray on tan?
Not a big fan of his clothes, but he would probably be fun to hang out with!

Heh, I'm wearing MK jeans as I type this.
Great interview for The Duchess :D
he is awfully cute, though. smooches, duchess.
still waiting for an answer, anon . . . speak!
I did look at his racks because of the name recognition but kept moving. I just visualize his mother wearing them, not me.
He probably is a sweetheart.
