Zac Posen Resort 2008 Collection

Black is white! Up is down! We don't normally like Zac Posen's stuff, but this collection is pretty freaking fabulous. We're not going to offer comments on every single outfit because there's only so many times you want to read "Cute!" "Pretty!" and "Fresh!" Suffice to say that even though Zac was working in the same black, white and neutrals with occasional splashes of color that everyone seems to be working in this season, he managed to make pretty, up-to-the-minute, and striking clothing. Although to be honest, we could have done without all the berets.

What do you gals think?

"we could have done without all the berets."

Oh, please. He knew you'd review his collection on the same Musical Monday that you gave us "Gigi". This is a French resort, specifically Trouville, where Honoré and Hortense carried on in their youth, and where Gaston takes Gigi.

Hence, berets.

Oh cute cute cute!! I am a FOOL for the square neckline. I hope that makes a comeback. There's hope for little fat girls like me everywhere!!

Ooo la la, Zac's woman is going to the French Rivera for her resort vacation. Vera's woman is going to the Betty Ford Clinic or the State Hospital.

Definitely the winner of the bunch. Thank you, T&L!

However...as much as I think the jewel-tone green gown (towards the end) was hot hot hot, I couldn't help but wonder how the woman wearing it could walk, dance or ...umm..perform certain..umm.. necessary functions?
An oncall personal ladies room dresser? A coordinating catheter? Or maybe it's just something simple like foregoing food and drink for several hours before and during the wearing of The Garment? (Or am I horribly out of touch: do the wealthy no longer have to pee? Did I miss some huge advance in medical technology?)

Whatever...I guess I lack the passion for fashion...but if it means having to sacrifice my margaritas on vacation and plan my 'rest stops', I'll happily choose Mall Wear! (At least I've discovered ONE up side to being Fashion Deprived!)

Many wows! Some pieces I don't like, but the ones I do, I REALLY like -- fantabulous! Funny thing is, I HATE the big plaid knee-length coat, but LOVE the same fabric on the short jacket (though don't think I'd wear it over a bathing suit). Most of this would work or city dressing. Has couture resort always been like that?

Firstly, these aren't couture collections, they are read-to-wear.
Traditionally the resort collection is for a mid winter vaction in a warm place, so it would include bathing suits, coverups, shopping attire, casual poolside party attire and warm weather evening attire. Most of it would not be suitable for city wear, but people aren't so formal anymore and they wear what they please in the city or where ever. Now days the designers use this mid-season collection sometimes for traditional "resort wear" like MK's or whatever sells best for them as kind of a pre-Spring collection. There aren't any hard fast rules.

love it, especially the first 10 and the dark blue gown.

Anon 3:39,

The green dress does look like it would be hard to wear, but if you look closely you will see the model has her right leg slightly raised and forward. That makes it look tighter at the knees than it actually is. They probably have it pinned at the back also to accentuate the striking mermaid silhouette.

Wow. I really like this collection, and I'm not a huge Posen fan.
God, I wish I had a life to wear that stuff to! (And a wallet full of cash to support it!)

I am confused as to how some of these are appropriate for a cruise theme.

That being said, the splashes of color are fabulous and a much-needed change from some of the drab colors from other recent cruise collections.

So, you're saying this is your favorite cruise collection so far?

It's the lines on (most of) these clothes that make them scrumptious to me. Very well defined and woman-friendly. Only the short-sleeved, tie-waisted dresses disappoint. Otherwise, yum!

I love the emerald green gown!!

A few misses, the shiny blue coat dress being my main peeve, but so many hits that it doesn't really matter.

The patterns and angles on the one knee length green dress toward the end of the short dresses reminded me a bit of Jay's Chrysler Building dress.

Very nice!

And thanks to Sewing Siren for the explanation on resort wear. I'm a fashion novice, so I wasn't entirely sure what it was all about.

I liked some of the early looks best (though not that first outfit which is not woman-friendly if you weigh more than 80 lbs). I did notice the pants all have some serious crotch pull going on. The PR judges would have been all over that.

This is a fabulous collection. I love #4. And he is so cute, isn't he?

Thanks, Sewing Siren. . .of course, I don't know what I was thinking! (ready to wear, not couture.)

except I think I was running a few thoughts together:
--that some of the collection looks very resort-y
--some looks more city than resort-y
--and then there're those gowns, which I guess i think are worn when benefit season starts back in the city, in Sept.

But what do I know? This is not my life.

After reading your pro-Zac intro, then glancing at the first few numbers, I too, deemed it "pretty", and "fresh"... until I realized I was actually rating the models more than the garments, which were perfectly attractive, in a lowest-common-denominator sorta way. (Don't even get me started on the pageant-gown eveningwear.)

I dunno. After looking at Zac Posen's stuff, I'm more appreciative of Vera Wang's collection, which at least made a STAB at chic.

Everything is so...normal.

I guess that's what sells.

for the most part, clean and polished. very nice.

all of this resort wear, is a bit too glamorous, don't you think?

The first gold shorts are cute (#1). The second ones are fug (#12).

The beret is too costumy which is why it looks best on the black and white Bonnie&Clyde look (#15). The berets look especially ridiculous with the housecoat dresses. Note: designers need to get over this housecoat trend quickly. It isn't helping anyone.

The Chrystler Building dress is impressive but not especially flattering. The dresses with square cut necklines are great however.

I'm not into shiny fabric for everyday but the gowns are pretty: the shades of green are especially lovely. I like all four cuts as well: very classic looks.

On a personal note: #2&8 are favorites as everyday looks. I can't wait for the cheap knock-offs to hit the stores...

There's a lot here I wish I could afford. Particularly #21--the dark blue gown with the full skirt that screams "I write big checks for charities, kiss my expensively shod toes."

Resort is all well and good, darlings, but are you going to post the Dior couture collection soon??!! I hope so.

Darlings,
Have you seen Bradley Baumkirscher's Holiday 2007 line. It's posted on Bravo's site. It's definitely HIM. Would love to get your take.

The green "mermaid" dress is hideous.

the rest is boring!

and I hate the berets.

I always hate his gowns. But everything else seems pretty nice. :]

now these I'd wear. The other designers, not so much.

I like this collection. I can see myself in one of these outfits.

Anonymous said...

I don't know... looks like a bunch of boring solids to me.

Anonymous said...

i always wear my black wool beret when I am at the beach
some cute stuff but the gowns at the end look somewhat like high-end bridesmaids dresses

Perhaps this is unfair, because ready to wear does not compare with haute couture, but just having viewed John Galliano's Fall 2007 collection, Zack's, Vera's, and Michael's collections seem "Been there, done that, seen that before."

Nice is the best I can say.

That little red number is SPICEY!! I would LOVE to go Salsa dancing in that one...

BUT - we need a new post girls... get 'busy' wink..

With the exception of the green, tan and black dress that looks like a blowup of a very exotic moth and does nothing for the model's figure...SEEN IT ALL BEFORE.....nothing original, could buy it all or something similar at Macy's, TJ Maxx, Parisian, JC Penny...on and on and on.....Ho hum.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Morticia style green dress second from the bottom on the right!!

The rest.......eh...whatever.
