Summing up the 13th look in 13 pictures.

"Hi guys! It's so nice to see all your lovely faces again! Why don't you come up here?"

"You all look so happy and well-rested! All my little designers!"

"Since you signed those contracts, we pretty much own your asses, so we're gonna fuck with you one more time just for shits and giggles. Isn't that fun? Okay, make another garment for your collection and pick one of the losers to help you."

"Shit. This is because Tim hated my collection, isn't it?"

"This is -- this is really cruel, y'know? We've worked so hard to get here! Can't you see that? Can't you see that this is our once-in-a-lifetime chance? How can you do this? What kind of people are you?"

"..."

"Fuck. This is because Tim hated Daniel's collection, isn't it?"

"Better get cracking. The minutes are ticking by like bagels!"

"Oh, hell fucking NO."

"Pick me! Pick me! Think blissful thoughts, Daniel. Bring the bliss. Feel the bliss.

Is that camera on me right now?"

"Arion...Johnny Cash...God, I need a drink."

"Yeah, this is fucking adorable. Like I need this bullshit right now.
I'd like to get back to work on the collection that no one's gonna fucking see, if that's not too much fucking trouble.
Assholes."

"Daniel! Girl, your hair looks fierce!"

This was actually really cruel of them. These designers were FINALLY going to get to show the world what they could do given the time and materials, and now they have to send another insanely quickly made garment on a limited budget down the runway. I would have cried too.

Hahhaahahahaha. Daniel Franco, where did you go?

I love this post, boys. I don't know how you guys do it, but it's always brilliant.

Cruel, yes. But it really helped all the collections, didn't it? OK, I can't really remember what Daniel did but I remember Chloe's 13th look was adorable, and Santino's too.

God, I love Nick.

Loved the screen cap added to Kara's pic :) I think that was the best one. That was mean of them to do to her too!

Didn't they do that too in PR1? If so I don't understand how they could NOT be ready because in their place, I'd have thought, "I may have to do an effing 13th piece in 24 hours. Let's think of something in advance and, oh yeah, let's finish sewing the hems and buttons on all 12th initial pieces just in case!

Honestly, sometimes reality show contestants are so frigging clueless. They did all watch the earlier seasons, right? That's why they auditioned this time around, right?

Brilliant! Between the Nick pic here and the Nick pic on the reunion special ("Guilty!"), you guys rock!

Yeah, I don't understand why they weren't finished with their collections either. They had about 6 months didn't they? Hems on a long dress maybe, but button holes ect.. there is no reason not to finish. Which were the 13th looks? I'm thinking for Chloe it was the baby doll halter dress (the best in her collection in my opinion), Daniel's was the dartless sheath with pockets on the hips (it looked like the dress Vincent did for the 1st challenge in season 3). Meh. And Santino's the mint green with black. Am I right?

Didn't they do that too in PR1?

no, they didn't. all the dramma was about Wendy having no soul and Kara Saun having custom made shoes

"Daniel! Girl, your hair looks fierce!"

that made my day so much better.

Why didn't they finish? They don't get the models until they get to NY. They have to fit the clothing to the model, and sometimes that even includes placement of buttonholes.

If you look at the tailoring on Danny V's collection, it looked WAY better going down that runway than Santino's, because S finished his dresses on a form and the boobs didn't match.

I thought Chloe's 13th look was just like Santino's muslin challenge dress.

thanks for the laughs as always.

I suspect your Kara quote was damn near what she was really thinking--I'm hoping that the finalists were told off camera that Kara wasn't eligible to be picked.

I'm all in favor of adding a little twist to the challenge if it adds some fun and it isn't over-the-moon burdensome. Last minute instructions to make a mini-sized Barbie outfit is a good twist. This one was too damn cruel to add any fun to the show--I just couldn't find any entertainment value in poor Chloe's obvious and justifiable anguish.

Apart from the extra work so close to the runway show, when they were already exhausted, these folks had planned a complete collection to be shown in a major setting--to force them to add a hastily planned and made 13th piece to a Bryant Park show--their big chance to show the world who they were as a designer--was way too mean-spirited for my taste. Even if they did turn out pretty good.

As far as leaving buttons, hems, etc. until the last minute, they didn't know who would be wearing each outfit. There's nothing foolish about leaving those kind of details for the fitting process. Hem length and button placement can have a big impact in the look and fit of the clothes.

Santino's was the red/purple dress with the purple lace over the shoulders and chest. That's not a great description - my apologies. I tried to find a picture of it on the web, but alas, I was defeated.

Macasism: "S finished his dresses on a form and the boobs didn't match"

Santino's boobs NEVER match. Not once during the season did he have matching boobs, or even boobs within about a foot of where actual boobs are on the body. He may not know what boobs are, come to think of it. Santino may do a great Timpression, but he doesn't have a clue about women's bodies, not even spectacular runway models' bodies.

Macasism and NSO,
I realize they designers did not get the models (except one) before they got back to NY and it is slightly risky to finish or nearly finish your garments before you get the model. They do get to "pick" the models though, and you have there measurements right there on their cards when you are picking. Finishing 12 garments would be very time consuming and they know that their time in the work room is determined by a shooting schedule and they have various other tasks they have to perform. Runway models are "fairly" standard in size and the designers have a pretty good idea how they differ from the dress form. I just think it would be far risker to *assume* you would have time to finish your collection when you got back to NY. But for all I know Bravo led them to believe that they would have more time in the workroom.
As far as the fit on Santino's collection goes (and I a using the pictures on the Bravo site to judge) it looks pretty good to me, even at the bust.

Anon, thanks for the heads up on Santino's 13th look. I think I know which one you are talking about it looks cocoa colored on the Bravo site.

Sewing Siren,

I agree with you. Hemming the long dresses on the models makes sense but assuming that you have time to do all the finishing on 12 outfits at the last minute seems very risky. What would Daniel have done if all the models hadn't pitched in to help sew their own buttons on?

And I'm glad someone else didn't find the fit of Santino's dresses that bad.

This is where the producers truly discovered their cruel streak.

True, having the designers create a 13th look isn't as bad as forcing the S3 guinea pigs to live with Jeffrey, but they were just getting started.
