Judging the Judges: Vera Wang

Sunday, February 18, 2007 by
Yes kittens, it's time once again to haul another judge onto the runway for some harsh bitchslapping. This time, it's Vera - and this is one Un-Vera-like collection to our eyes.

Commence bitchery...NOW!

More pictures of Vera Wang's Fall 2007 collection here and here, and video here.

Vera can do no wrong by me. Let her have a weird awkward collection or two. I don't care. The woman's clothes as a whole are mouthwatering, they're like Whistler paitings (just check out her website, it's like porn to me). Not to mention her eyewear (I have two sets of glasses by her and they were the best designs in the optometry store).

I correct myself, John Singer Sargent paintings.

WHY?!?!?!????!

I can't bitch about this collection. I can only weep. I guess that's enough of a response to it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this her first collection to be completed after her father's death? If that's true, then I'd have to say the darkness of this collection is probably reflective of that. Show a little mercy, people!

What the...

Vera, honey, maybe you need to stop sniffing your own perfume. That collection was just plain horrifying. Utterly unworthy of you.

vera wang is incredible and i believe that using the bolshevik revolution for inspiration was absolutely genius. vera's been in a dark mood lately, but once you get past the styling, you realize the clothing is beautifully refined and elegant. and it sure as beats the offensive, uninspired, self-satisfying crap michael kors had the balls to send down a runway. designers should feel entitled to work outside their comfort zone, so kudos to vera for not doing another feminine, obvious ly gorgeous collection.

also, im not sure if anyone noticed, the model selection was terrible. i mean, betsey johnson and zac posen's models were at least good looking, these models looked literally, anorexic and scary. i know thats the stereotype of models in general, but here, it's too true. come on woman, as we've all seen from shows like project runway and america's next top model, there are beautiful women out there who model wonderfully.

Well, her palette was clearly inspired by a Manhattan snowstorm - four days later. And what is with that hideous striped shirt and bubble skirt ensemble? Ewwww!

What Was She Thinking ? ?

There seems to be a lot of dark & clunky rattling around in Vera's head this year.

She's definately going back to her asian roots. I think it's dark, and moody yes, but the strong element of design is apparent in her newer work. I think they are a beautiful, different, step in a completely new direction. My only regret is that some of the clothes look boxy, however, this is all made up by the mouth watering silver dress with the strong collar and the vertical element of layered fabrics.

I love her.

i like her palette and some of the fabrics were gorgeous. I think this is an interesting departure for her - I will no longer associate her with Nancy Kerrigan -and for the most part it really works for me. I agree tho' with some of the other posters - weird styling, peculiar models, and some boxiness

She should stick to wedding!

Those garments are some serious ugly! As I recall so was some of the outfits she wore to judge in. Ick. Still love her, but only for wedding attire.
