The Duchess had one of her little shows this week.

So. Here are six looks from Duchess Kors' Fall 2007 show this week. Two of them we loved, two of them we hated, two of them we only sorta liked.

Guess.

I defintely don't like the droopy trousers (they look like they're about to fall off the model), and the big sweater looks sort of 80s to me...all the model needs are leg warmers. How long do we have to wait to see the Fabulously Gay Duo's hits and misses?

The best thing about the show was the model instructions, posted LARGE backstage. You can see them on the gawker.com site (it was posted yesterday so you might have to scroll back).

Pretty funny to read the idiotic narrative he wanted his models to exude, especially when you look at the comments he always shot at Uncle Nick in S2.

I do like that giant cowl neck with the Jackie Kennedy coat though.

Well, I'm going to guess that you loved the first one and the last one. Truly, the only one of the rest of them that I really liked in any way is the long gray dress, which is nice but not wow. Just so I've guessed everything, though, I'll say that you liked 4 & 5, and hated 2 & 3.

my 2 cents:

love: #1, #6
meh #4, #5
ugh: #2, #3

highlights: papa smurf fur hat with the crafty spray-painted aluminum-foil skirt.

oh oh!! is there video of the duchess prancing down the runway, then running out of music and waving his little gay arms in the air?? i so want to see that (from gofug) :-)

Okay, loved the first one with withe cowl neck and the long grey gown. Liked the grey top with the droopy pants and the silver jacket with the glasses. Hated the one with all the wiggedy wack orange stuff and the puffy fur hat. Am I right?

Anonymous said...

I actually like them all except for the orange (ahem) top with the tin foil skirt. Can't wait for T&L's comments.

I covet numbers 1, 4 and 6. I would especially love to wear 1 and 6 to work on i'm-gonna-kick-your-ass-day. Four is for kick-back-at-work-then-out-for-drinks-at-five-Friday.

My guesses as to how T&L rated them:

Love: 1, 6
Hate: 3, 5
Meh: 2, 4

Hmmm . . .

#1: Nice!
#2: would be excellent if the model had the hips to hold up the trousers! The shoes are all wrong, though.
#3: don't like the mix of casual sweater and evening skirt
#4: faboo!
#5: If the dress weren't falling off, it would be fine, but nothing to write home about. (Love the hat, however!)
#6: Ugh. And is it the photo, or is she wearing a sock on one leg and not on the other?

And as for look #4... am I the only one reminded of Miss Paltrow? And in the most banal way... from the limp hair, to funereal grey... "

Ohmygod, I thought the same thing. I liked #1 and #6. I hate all the other ones.

Anonymous said...

Is it just me, or does anyone see #4 as some sort of plain (as in not colorful/not sparkly) love-child of an Uli dress and a Laura dress?

That orange and mylar combo is hideous.

The baggy pants combo? Boring!!

Variations on that turtleneck-and-trousers look have been a winter uniform for many a woman, for many a decade.

I like 1, 2 and 6 but I do not love the shiny fabric on the short overcoat. I do love the proportions.

Unknown said...

1 & 4 good
3 & 5 bad
2 & 6 whatever

if they grey gown is NOT silk or satin--and I think it's not--it's lovely. If it is silk or satin it's lovely-ish, but same old, same old.

Anonymous said...

Love: 1,4
Hate: 2,5
Meh: 3,6

1. Gorge
2. Ill-fitting and sloppy
3. Actually like skirt, jacket and belt. The orange kills it.
4. flowy fun.
5. Make-kate disaster
6. Nice tailoring, but I don't like that the jacket is shiny.

I had to change my votes once I was forced to write justifications.

My, my, my the Dutchess does take her inspiration from some rather obvious places. Where is the innovation that the judges on PR are so fond of pimping? Right, when the $$'s hit the runway it is all about wearability and what will sell.

How he could say that Laura and Uli didn't surprise and wow him and then turn out a collection like this...

The giantess with Marfan Syndrome is about to have her pants fall off they are so low slung. Did he put her in the clothes and then on the rack? No one wears their pants like that in New York now.

The gold skirt looks like it was left over from a florist covering potted plants and what is with the fur Smurf hat?

The grey evening dress has pretty lines and "ANOTHER PLUNGING NECKLINE, LAURA, HOW PREDICTABLE". Where have we heard that?

The last outfit is a dead copy of Yves St Laurant.

The Duthchess needs to wipe that smug smirk off her orange face the next time he judges.

You can get to videos of the Fashion Week runway shows (and lots of other goodies) at New York Magazine's (nymag.com/fashion). With respect to MK, It also has pix of backstage and front row (including a pic of the aforementioned instructions for the models).

My votes:
Love: 1 and 4
Hate: 2 and 3
+/-: 4 and 6

Silly Sewwhat...That doesn't matter! Here are the model instructions as posted (largely) backstage:

"Dee-licious Dichotomy!
You are Young, Gorgeous and have bank accounts all over the world!
You are having breakfast in New York, Cocktails in Monte Carlo and spend the weekend dancing away in London!
Girls be SMILING, SEXY and FLIRTING!
Boys be POWERFUL and DeGORGEOUS!
Have a Great Show!"

First- how many of those airhead models even know what dichotomy means?

Second- And this guy complained about Nick's naratives?

Third- And speaking of the models; they are among the most emaciated I've seen. They're just bags of bones. It's a bit abusive to expect them to look "smiling & sexy", when they haven't eaten in years.

Fourth- As for the collection...what is it with this guy and orange? Are the accesories supposed to match his face?

Fifth- Funny seeing The Donald & The Melania in that clip on NY Mags' site. When ever you see pictures of them together, she looks so haaaappy, doesn't she?

Dearest GayBoys,

I just looked at the video of the Dutchess' collection from NY Mag. I am a little surprised that you didn't include the bronze sequined cocktail dress with the feather/fur trimmed bottem that he lifted almost verbatim from Laura. I have to also mention now the camel and grey piece in the background inspired I am sure by Uli's camel and grey pieces and the obvious "inspiration" of Jay's color-gradated knits in the nasty sweater dress MK put on the runway. How dare this man sit in judgement of other peoples designs and how "innovative" they are or aren't?

My, I sound downright vitriolic. I think it is time for a lovely cocktail and a cool cloth for my fevered brow. I must have kept these feeling bottled up for too long.

Much Love, Sewhat?

I like 1, 4, and 6. I know metallic is back, but I hate it.

Anonymous said...

For someone who has so much to say as a judge, that is really a shitty collection. I'm underwhelmed.

Anonymous said...

I'm kinda iffy on this collection. It kinda goes in a sequence for me:

1 - Love it.
2 - Hate it.
3 - so-so.
4 - Love it.
5 - Hate it.
6 - so-so.

Hope you PRGayboys thought the same way! :)

You also don't see the gold beaded dress that is exactly (EXACTLY) the silver beaded dress from the Laura Bennet collection. Is that why MK does PR to "lift" the designs of the talent??

Oh, wouldn't we all love to see the dutchess's notes from the PR episodes: Silver beaded dress from LB-damn that bitch! She does it better than I can! dutchess flings self to floor whimpering, then is bitch-slapped by NeenaGarcia for being a wuss....

"Is that why MK does PR to "lift" the designs of the talent??"

I am so glad that you said that...I've been seeing ALOT of PR-influenced ideas and designs surfacing since the series began! And not just from MK.

Designers of all stripes lift ideas from other sources (excuse me...'draw inspiration from blahblahblah'). The talented ones make something fresh and new and original. The rest just make ho-hum copies.

Why is Kors referred to as "The Duchess?" Don't get me wrong, I LOVE IT but I'm DYING to know why...
Thanks!

Just want to say....
met MK at a grand opening of one of his stores a couple of weeks ago. He was the nicest most down to earth and personable "celeb" I have ever met.

I grilled him with about a bazillion PR questions and he answered me patiently with his special brand of NY humor.

He even complimented my dress, not an MK.

I'm just sayin'....in case y'all were wonderin'....

The girl in Look #2 (Romina Lanaro) has a great face, but a skeletal body. I think that the clothes they send her in are fine, but the fit is usually "off" for her body (Alexander McQueen being a rare exception!).

If you look back at the sweater, though, it puts a knot at the back her neck, an that's not comfy.
