More Juicy Gossip to Fill Your Day

From WWD:

"Is another magazine already haggling to become a partner with "Project Runway" once its contract with Elle runs out? The Hachette Filipacchi Media title is contracted to the reality show through its fifth season, the last on the Bravo network. But season six of "Project Runway" will be broadcast on Lifetime, and the existing contracts between the show and its partners are being renegotiated. Though Elle's contract could be renewed, sources close to "Project Runway" say Marie Claire is expressing an interest in participating. Such a partnership is ripe for synergy: Marie Claire is published by Hearst Magazines, whose parent company jointly owns Lifetime with The Walt Disney Co. Hearst also published Lifetime magazine in 2003, but the unsuccessful launch shuttered after a year. A spokeswoman for Marie Claire said, "We think 'Project Runway' is a fantastic show, but to speculate at this point beyond season five would be, as [season four winner] Christian Siriano says, 'A hot mess!'"

Couple that with this from Fashionista:

"Spotted: Nina Garcia leaving the Hearst building, sprinting across the street before hailing a cab and trying to avoid eye contact with anyone as she left. Stay tuned."

...and it looks like we've got ourselves a rumor! We're kicking ourselves because we mentioned to some people off-blog that we suspected a magazine like Marie Claire would take over the Elle spot once the show moved to Lifetime. If only we'd said so on-blog we'd be batting a thousand with predictions.

UPDATE (1): And the hits just keep on coming. The Hollywood Reporter reports that:

"Project Runway" producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz will not follow the series when it moves to Lifetime."

UPDATE (2):""We didn’t have an issue with Project Runway going to Lifetime per se, and we’d both be surprised if it didn’t work for that network," Cutforth tells EW.com.

Adds Lipsitz, "Even though technically we didn’t create the show, we created the `creative’ of the show. We gave the show its style and emotional level. It’s not easy to walk away from it, by any means."

"We’re excited about the cast and are always looking for a balance of talent and unforgettable characters," says Cutforth. "I think one teaser I’ll give is, you’ll never look at tanning beds the same way.""

Wow...my daughter works for Harper's in the Hearst Building. I wonder if she has any scoop. I'll start digging guys...

I was thinking it might be Family Circle or Ladies Home Journal.

Well, I can vouch for you that you predicted MC would be a great partner, so in my eyes you are batting 1000!

LOL. Marie Claire is not that bad, no Vogue or Elle or anything, but it could be a lot worse.

Who owns "Good Housekeeping"???

GASP! Don't you even joke about it!

But if Harper's (Bazaar presumably) is a Hearst publication, why not them rather than Marie Claire?

Just read on the Huffington Post that the producers are not making the move to Lifetime either ... the show will never be the same (: This is crazy.

Ugh, I'm boycotting Marie Claire for false reporting. What am I going to do???

Merde!

The Marie Claire part of your post doesn't really thrill, because in my mind, glossy fashion mags are interchangable.

The news about the Magical Elves not joining PR after the switch to Lifetime: alarm bells are going off like never before!

Merde! No news if another production team will replace them, to balance out the obvious greed of the Weinstein's.

Oh kittens, I was willing to hold off judgement on Season 6 until it started airing, but with all this background on how the switch is being made, even I'm drawing closer to in opinion to those who feel that the apocolypse has come for PR.

Merde, indeed -since the Magical Elves will no longer be doing PR after season 5, PR 6 could indeed be a hot tranny mess, as Christian would say.

Forget all the gossip, Tina Fey covering Madonna in the graphic you posted, TLo?!!!

For shame. Naughty gays!

"Good Housekeeping" is also a Hearst Publication.

Ugh.
Dowdy.
This new branding/synergy is all becoming very blah & middle of the road.
Good Luck Project Runway, Marie Claire (please) & Lifetime.

I'll stick w/ Bravo, thanks.

Ooohoo!
Score one point for NBC Universal!
Touché, Wiensteins! Take that!

I don't read the fashion mags so, maybe like some of the other posters, I'm not getting a distinction. Elle? Marie Claire? I really just don't know but am willing to be educated.

However, Hearst publishes O and I swear if PR veers over toward Oprah that's poison, don't you think?

The change in production staff is pretty big, in my mind, too. Maybe they're just moving on to greener pastures but you've got to wonder what the hell is going on over there at the PR offices.

Indeed. Now that Harvey has complete control, expect even weirder product partnerships down the road. This is the man who drove Macy's away as a sponsor by pushing the CEO of Wal-Mart on camera with Heidi at the S3 finale, because he has his own DVD deal with them.

After S5, it ain't gonna be pretty, folks.

I'll try a little education on women's fashion: Vogue, W and Harper's Bazaar (spelling?) are the top. Elle runs a very close behind, but to me I don't think it as pure fashion because it actually has (gasp!) good articles. Marie Claire is in the same boat as Jane, Cosmopolitan, Allure, Glamour, In Style and Lucky. They don't LEAD the fashion, they FOLLOW. I don't know if I've ever read a Marie CLaire. I know I associate it with tweeny-early twenties. Not with Vogue, Harper's, W and Elle. Couple that with the fact that Magical Elves won't be involved? Not happy. :P

I read MarieClaire for the first time a few months ago. That is, read the articles rather than just flipping through. It wasn't bad, and there were some thing I liked, such as having some reasonably priced things in there.

My impression was that the focus is for an older demographic than Elle or Vogue. MarieClaire and Lifetime would be a pretty good match up.
As for Nina... I think she'll continue to rise. She can work in both English and Spanish --the later has a lot of potential.

I just read the Los Angeles Times article about the production team staying at NBC; I would have found it a bit more credible had their staff writer, Meg James, not managed to misspell "reneged". And, in a further bit of sauce for the goose, she even accomplished the unthinkable; she misspelled Michael Kors' name too.

(gets off soapbox now)

When you think that things can't get any worse...voila! More bad news!!

YUP, I agree with you. I bought Marie Claire once and didn't like it. Vogue and Elle are still my favorite fashion magazines.

Look on the bright side: New producers means a new look...which may mean an all-white runway.

And Marie Claire is a step down from Elle. They should get Harper's on the line...that would be peerfect.

Shout out to usmcsgtftl:
Did she spell it "Michael Coors"? I had a hilarious picture of him in my head, wearing a trucker cap and a NASCAR logo jacket, squashing a beer can on his forehead!

Honestly, I've never seen so much drama over a TV show. Not the postings here, rather, all the announcements coming from the people involved with the show in one way or another. By the time they get S6 on the air it will be so different from the original, Lifetime may as well have done a PR ripoff. It probably would have cost less.

Maybe they'll have judging in front of an audience so people can relate to it more! UGH!

Not to to leap to sturm and drang, but....we are DOOMED, friends. Doomed.

Project Runway will definately go swirling down the toilet once it hits Lifetime. Lame.

Anonymous said...

Man oh man. If Tim Gunn leaves, this show will need to be put to sleep.

Anonymous said...

I wasn't as panicked about the switch to Lifetime as many, but the exit of the Magical Elves is probably the last nail in the PR coffin even for me. So many changes at once will make PR a shadow of its former self. And I don't blame Lifetime, I blame the Weinsteins. They're the ones who decided to shop the show around in the first place. PR was the bait for a bigger deal.

And if Lifetime has any brains, they will now realize they've bought damaged goods instead of a hit show. And all that is in addition to the litigation. Way to screw everything up, Harvey. Season 6 will probably feature the Wal-Mart Accessories Wall.

well....I USED to like Marie claire, a few years ago....but they changed it!!! I don't like it anymore! It's a Tranny Mess up in there! I just don't see Lifetime doing PR justice...which is soooo sad. It can only be downhill from here.

Dust Bunnies Rule!!

I'm really hoping that they'll hook up with Woman's Day or Woman's World. Imagine the hotness of the Old Pueblo Traders accessory wall.

I haven't seen MarieClaire in a while, but it used to be ok. It doens't really seem to be a fashion mag. Elle is really upscale and good.

How about "First for Women" mag? InStyle?

Damn Weinsteins and damn Lifetime. Goodbye awesome guest judges like Betsey Johnson and Zac Posen. Looks like we're going to see the Mom Jeans challenge judged by Kathie Lee instead. Craptastic.

Hm...the Marie Claire gossip doesn't strike me as a big deal. But then I don't buy fashion mags. I like fashion, but I'm a cheap bitch. And the internet exists for a reason.

The production thing...ok now I'm worrying. The lifetime thing I was pretty neutral on. In addition to being cheap, I have no network loyalty. I mean, Lifetime is kind of a lame network, but NBC and their stupid vendetta against iTunes make it hard for me to actually watch the show. But good producers are the key element distinguishing between good reality tv and really stupid reality tv. I'm starting to think all of this really is going to suck.
