The Best of the Rest

This was just okay, which is surprising coming from Kara Saun. The wrap is pretty, but the suit is just basic. And that bottom is poorly fitted. Looking a little Blue Lagoon there.

If she really wanted to be original, she should have sent this down the runway for the bridal gown competition. This would only be an improvement on Pam Anderson's last trousseau.

Props to Jenny for having the best body out of the models, though. Melissa's also got a killer bod, but Jenny looks fantastic in a bikini. Long and lean, with enough curves to make her look sexy and healthy.

We liked this. It was pure Jay. In what we surmise was something of a shock to him, Jay is actually quite good at marrying his aesthetic to the task at hand and always coming out Jay.

Love the straps and the bondage-y aspect of the whole thing, but we're not crazy about the wrap, which literally looks like he just wrapped some fabric around her waist.

And it's probably a good thing he did, because the cut on that bottom is all wrong. Way too Fruit of the Loom to be considered sexy. Judging by the various ass and cooch - fitting issues, it looks like making a bathing suit is probably harder than it looks.

Although apparently not as hard as figuring out how to put the damn thing on the next day. It looks like she got twisted up in a giant jockstrap.

I was really surprised at how basic Kara Saun's was as well. I'm also surprised that it didn't get called out as being "boring", but she had immunity. We all knew she wasn't going home.

I liked Jay's. It was very innovative. Yes, there were fit issues with the bottom, but those could all be altered. The idea of the suit is really great.

I liked Jay's a lot. It could've been executed better, but he only had 5 hours to make his swimsuit. I can't even pick a fabric in 5 hours.

I noticed the issues with the bottom too. Contrary to what people might think, it's very difficult to make a swimsuit.

Watching the attempt to don the swimsuit the next day was PRICELESS!
I think I was especially amused since I have issues with clothes that outsmart me in the dressing room. I usually end up tied in knots and falling into the dressing room wall (Yeah, that thud you heard, that was me trying to put on a strappy dress).
Jay and Julia are such a great combo!

Uh, yeah....Call me kooky, but I can't get behind a bathing suit that requires a degree in engineering to put on.

ME NO LIKE THEM. I just wasn't impressed with them.

I love how Jay described his swimsuit: "two black Band-Aids with dental floss." Hahahah.
I loved it. I thought it looked very Gucci-esque.

re: Kara Saun's bathing suit: I HATE white bathing suits. They just look like bras and panties!

So PRGayBoys, who WAS your pick for the win??

It's funny how the judges didn't say anything about Jay being inspired by a swimsuit he once saw with lots of straps.

Kara's was boring and it looked like the model was wearing her grandmother's shawl.

The swimsuit was good, but bring back the Kara Saun we know!

First-time watcher here : - )

Kara Saun phoned it in because she had immunity. I liked Jay's.

While Jenny is a cute girl, I much prefer Martinique's curvaceous figure. Her boobs kept Wendy on the show this week.

Jay's was very creative and wearable. It looks like a major bitch to put on, but hey, I'm willing to do almost anything to look good.

Martinique walks like she was born to be on the runway. She has the best walk. I LOVE HER!!!

Looking at those captions (I didn't notice it while I was watching the episode), I'm surprised how ill-fitted Kara Saun's is. An ill-fitted swimsuit is just as bad as one that is not suited for your body type.

In my opinion, Jay's swimsuit was flawed, but his character showed through. Kara's was just bleh and boring.

--Wait, what? She has curves....?? Is that what you consider curves, boys? *tsk tsk*

I like everything Kara Saun makes. It's always elegant, sophisticated and classy, but I do agree on the color choice for the swimsuit; you can see everything when it's wet.

It's actually a cream color, not pure white as it might seem in the photo.

Not gonna fault anyone for fit problems given the inadequate time they had for the challenge. And I'd guess that a number of them had never done a swimsuit before. But Kara Saun could have done something to make it more interesting.

Yup, Jay's gay. He wasn't even looking at her boobies.

I totally agree, April. Kate Winslet has curves.Salma Hayek has curves. These models are merely mannequins. (My first disagreement with the T&L)

LOVED Jay's, very S&M, sexy, raunchy.
HATED Kara's, too sweet, too safe, too sorority girl.

Yeah, a wet, white bathing suit? Dear god, no! Is it just us, or was Kara working on some sort of haltar top and then changed the design to this boring bikini?

I really liked Jay's. The wrap skirt was not very good but the top seemed to satisfy the "looking like a bathing suit" issue people have while also almost looking like club wear. It looked pretty acceptable in a bar setting.

Well, it depends. A white Speedo-type bathing suit on a man? I'd say...Oh god, YES!!!

One of the funniest things of all 3 seasons: Julia trying to get the suit on the next day. Always makes me laugh! And how can you skip Julia's comment when she first saw the suit? "I'm glad I waxed!"

And I thought the original version of KS's top was better--more haltery than the basic triangle bikini top. Also actually managed to make the model look more busty.

It was funny when not even Jay could figure out how to put that thing on. LOL.

I really liked Jay's. I thought it was different and appropriate for a party.

Triangles and some string -- why so difficult?

I like Jay's but the tan lines would be brutal.

I know sewing anything stretchy is a pain in the ass....or at least thats what every costume designer I try to hire for the dance company tells me. They hate working with that lycra stuff.

I love Jenny. Drama-free, gorgeous and a great model.

I did not like Jay's at all. It's not something I'd wear. Call me boring, but I really liked Kara's.

Anonymous said...

Ouch! I never noticed the back of Jay's swimsuit before. Well, I still think it's one of the best of the bunch, but, yeah, that would have to be fixed. Would still pick it over Kara Saun's any day. Where was my Kara Saun during this challenge? *sigh*.

And, yeah, April, compared to your average non-model female, Jenny is fairly stick-like. Compared to Erin (Alexandra's model for this challenge) she's Curvy Galore. Seriously, Erin FRIGHTENS me. But I think Jenny is beautiful.

I love how comfortable the models feel getting naked or being without clothes in front of the designers.

Kara's swimsuit is lovely. Very fresh, elegant, and approprite for both occasions.

Kara's is something that I see at the beach all the time. It's pretty, but nothing to write home about.

Did I miss Robert's, or is there going to be a separate post?

Just want to make sure I'm not going crazy.

Ahh, completely forgot you guys hadn't done Wendy's either. It's been a loooong day, as you can tell.

I just remembered Robert's in particular because of how much crazy he brought with it.
