In or Out: Iman

Iman in a vintage dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry at the 5th Annual Wayuu Taya fundraising gala.

Kittens, we are BEREFT. Why? Because we may have to give La Diva an "out" here. The dress is pretty and it's in a beautiful color and for fuck's sake, she's Iman, so we don't even have to point out that she wears it well. Let this be a lesson to all you ladies because it's not the dress, it's the finishing work that falls flat.

The jewelry is beautiful but it may just be a little overwhelming and it pains us to say this but the hair and makeup are... not so good. Top (or bottom) all that off with a pair of shoes that do nothing for the outfit and we're gonna have to call this one an "out."

IMAN! PLEASE DON'T HATE US! WE STILL WANT TO BE YOUR GAYS!

  1. Ooh, I'm first today! :-P

    Don't worry, you are still my gays as you came to the same conclusion as I did. That hair is not flattering at all, and yeah, it's all in the finishing touches. Otherwise, the girl is working it!

  2. True, her hair doesn't look all that great, and neither the earrings nor the shoes do anything for the outfit, but I'll give her a pass just on general principle.

  3. I love Iman. But this is a prime example of the whole of the look adding up to less than the sum of its parts.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Iman is still "in" even though she is "out" on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The dress is really pretty but the hair is just wrong. OUT. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Titscrepancy alert!

    This just didn't quite come together...out (*meep*)!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Dress is in, but styling is out. The hair is awful.

  8. This doesn't even look like something you'd expect to see Iman in. I like the brooch on the waist, but the top of the dress is all wonky, and she was having a seriously bad hair day.

    But she posed like a trooper anyway (maybe, with 'You'll Never Walk Alone' playing in her head.)

  9. Huh. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I still think she looks pretty good. I'm not sold on the ringlets, but the dress is beautiful, and so are the earrings.

    ReplyDelete
  10. i just dont see it. i dont find her attractive in the least. ever.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I say she's in. True, each individual piece fails to thrill, but she looks so genuinely relaxed and happy that it all adds up.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I can't TOTALLY "auf" her...yes the shoes are blah, and yes the dress could be an inch or two shorter, but come ON boys....those earrings are AMAZING. So for me she is half in half auf. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not one of her best looks but she's still IMAN.

    I wish she'd gone with a better 'do. The ringlets are a little too precious.

    It's not blowing me away but I wouldn't call this "out."

  14. Love the pin at the waist. I always think the one-shouldered look is unfinished and/or naked looking, so having a large hunka jewelry tamps it down and into place nicely.

    I'm also thinking the shoes aren't that bad. TLo commented recently regarding Posh that she was going to end up in a wheelchair wearing the shoes that she wears, so it's nice to see a lady wearing something on her feet where your first impulse isn't to wonder if her parents were into Chinese footbinding torture. Not-black would have been better but I can seriously get behind the heel height.

  15. I don't like anything...not even the dress, not a pretty green IMO, but she's working it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hate to say it, but this isn't my favorite outfit on her, nor is her hair the best it's ever been. She still looks awesome, though.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I like it. She's not at the top of her game, but she still looks better than most.

    Maybe she was really busy that morning. This could be Iman's version of putting her hair in a ponytail, throwing on jeans and a T-shirt, sliding into her flip flops and running out the door.

  18. Love Iman. Love the earrings. Don't love the bodice on this dress, don't love the shoes, don't love the hair.
    Most could not in any way "work" this ensemble, but she does, in an "it's all wrong, but it's all right" kinda way.

  19. Nix the Cindy Brady curls, and I say she's fabulously "in."

    ReplyDelete
  20. I love Iman. She will always be IN. That said, I don't care for her hair and makeup. The jewels are okay.

    ReplyDelete
  21. ITA: What bill said.
    We've ALL had our bad days and I suppose this is one of them for Iman. However, she still looks better than most women her age. Right?

    So, IMO: Iman is "in," but just by a hair. Speaking of hair, this is not a good look. As someone else posted, it looks a bit wonky.

    Most women her age? Or most women? I'd say the latter.

    Ouch.

    Actually, she looks better than most women her age, (or any other age), but this ensemble is too Joan Collins, and makes her look older.

  24. I think she looks fantastic! I hope the authors of this blog are cursed to feel debilitatingly self-conscious about their appearance before attempting to leave the house everyday, because they have every reason to!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. This is IMAN - She's IN!

    Of course, I'd be afraid to vote her out even if she were wearing a burlap sack.

    ReplyDelete
  26. brookly bomber & gothamtomato:

    I knew my remark was a loaded one and just might bite me in the ass. However, I truly meant well. These days, I think most "mature" women celebs are far lovelier, more elegant, sophisticated and downfight "hotter" than their much yournger counterparts. And that goes for the dead one's as well!

    ReplyDelete
  27. The hair is sooo bad, it almost... almost destroys the rest. But the fact that she's Iman saves her from being "out".

    Those ringlets remind me of the storybook dolls my mother had in the 40s, with the real bad fake hair & every female character has the same ringlets in some style.

    But I have to agree with nahncee that the shoes are fine. She's in her 50's! Of course she's gonna wear something more sensible.

    ReplyDelete
  28. IN and OUT! It's Iman, darlings!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think she looks fabulous, minus the shoes which are doing nothing for the outfit, and the make up which is just ok. The hair and the earrings are wonderful though.

    ReplyDelete
  30. i totally agree, i think the dress is gorgeous and simple, but the hair is definitely not ok

    ReplyDelete
  31. Iman is in, in, in. But I hate the color of that dress. And the shoes. But I like her hair and makeup!!!!

    She must be forever in.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The hair is the only element that doesn't work for me, so she's still in because that dress color is beyond scrumptious.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love the dress, the brooch and the earrings. Hate the shoes and hair.
    The color and pattern of the dress are magnifique. The jewelry is smokin. Unfortunately, the hair just isn't age appropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dress: Gorgeously IN.
    Shoes: Salvation Army OUT.
    Styling: Not even there.

    She's still Iman.
    So she's IN.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The hair is a little too Baby Jane for me but she's Iman, surely she's racked up enough IN points over the years to be perpetually IN! Besides, she scares me just a little (ok, she scares me a lot!)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Being Iman, she could be wearing one of those floral-print dusters, reading glasses, and fuzzy houseslippers and still work it. She couldn't be out if she tried!

    ReplyDelete
  37. She's IN forever!

    ReplyDelete
  38. IN. I like everything, but the shoes.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    PS you are killing me with suspense.
    ReplyDelete
  39. Vintage... Do you know who designed the dress?
    I think it looks cute, but not super-fine. It reminds me of a Goodwill find I'd be happy to wear to a Christmas party. Something made in-house for department stores back when they produced their own copies of the season's Paris shows.
  40. The dress is absolutely stunning.
    The hair and earrings may be wrong, and the shoes are (merely) boring, but all is forgiven because that dress looks kick-ass on her.
    ReplyDelete
  41. Sorry darlings....still love. In.
    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh come ON, boys. After some of the outfits you pass on? Admit it, you are just in a bitchy mood this morning and LOOKING for something to gripe about. That may not be her best hairdo, but at least it doesn't look like she forgot to comb it, and the jewelry and shoes aren't godawful bad like SOME people wear. She looks CLASSY!
    ReplyDelete
  43. Her Highness Iman is IN IN IN.
    I think she looks great!
    ReplyDelete
  44. I kind of like how the dress has fullness in the front, but hugs her ass in the back. But the dress would definitely look way better if it were shorter.
    All in all,this vintagey-cute thing doesn't seem to jive with her usual look, so maybe that's what's off-putting. I guess it's all relative: compared to the usual Iman, this is out; in relation to everyone else in the universe, she's always IN. She's like some superhero-goddess.
    ReplyDelete
  45. This just goes to show bitch can work anything, even what on just about anyone else, alive or dead, would be a COMPLETE clunker.
    I guess I have to put aside that notion I've always had that Iman wasn't of this earth. *le sigh*
    I STILL WANT TO BE HER STRAIGHT GAL PAL (hanging out with Bowie doesn't hurt either).
    ReplyDelete
  46. The bodice is not very flattering and the ringlets aren't fabulous, but otherwise she looks great. And she gets a big "in" from me for not wearing some foot buster shoes. Iman is way smarter than Posh and this just proves it once again.
    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't like the earrings with this outfit. They're too big.
    ReplyDelete
  48. I love Iman but I can't get behind this look on her. Green satin frightens me.
    ReplyDelete
  49. Iman ROCKS!!!!!!!!
    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm not loving the shoes, but she is so gorgeous, she's in!!! Where's David?
    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm ok with everything but the shoes. They look like something my secretary would wear, maybe with jeans on casual Friday. Maybe they are not leather in support of vegan. That would redeem. Otherwise, it is time to let them go.
    ReplyDelete
  52. What?!? The woman looks stunning! I love the color of that dress against the chocolatey-ness of her skin. She's always perfect! I especially like her earrings.
    My only beef with Iman is that she's got what we affectionately call in our family "elephant trunk legs." Not quite enough curves in the gams/ankles. I got mine from my stout German grandmother.
    ReplyDelete
  53. the hair, definitely is out. Maybe she could be a guest diva on Shear Genius -- I can't wait!
    ReplyDelete
  54. Honestly, I didn't even notice the jewelery, hair, makeup or shoes until you pointed them out, thus confirming that Iman really could wear a trash bag and I would still find her amazing.
    Totally IN.
    ReplyDelete
  55. Iman is stunning what is her secret?
    ReplyDelete
  56. She's a model, she'll make anything look good on her, but when you look closely you can tell that the hair and makeup weren't the best for the look.
    Same here. Iman is a goddess!!
  58. Iman is just a timeless beauty, really, having said that, I hate the hair, makeup, shoes (they look chip, chip, chip in a chip way) and the gypsy earrings.
    I have to agree with you. I also agree with whoever said that the shoes look cheap.
    ReplyDelete
  60. Sorry boys and girls -
    The outfit may not be perfect, but Iman could wear a shower curtain and work it so hard that everyone would be convinced she looked stunning. She's the consummate super.
    "Difficult color, that green. Very tricky. Maggie Smith
  61. I don't mind the shoes at all -- I think they're simple and don't distract from the dress. (Maybe there's something gross about them that is just not showing up on my monitor). I agree that the hair is wrong; I can't see the makeup well enough to make a judgment on it.
    Overall, she's still Iman, and no matter how poorly styled she is, bitch still gets to go home and do David Bowie. But yeah, she should fire her stylist for this one.
    And, T&L, maybe a couple new gays is exactly what she needs. You two should knock on her door.
    ReplyDelete
  62. Lads, the truth hurts sometimes and Iman clearly needs Gays who will be brutally honest, no matter the pain!
    Agree - hair and make up plus shoes, not the best choices.
    Love the dress
    ReplyDelete
  63. In.
    That dress is gorgeous, imo, and the colour? Fantastic against her skin!
    The shoes may not do anything for the outfit, but I think that is the only downside. The hair could use a little fixing, but don't touch that dress!
    ReplyDelete
  64. The only thing that really bothers is the hair because it looks like an evening do that's gone unkempt. I can forgive her for the heat we're going through.
    I like the shoe shape but maybe something a little more vibrant.
    In but not as IN as normal.
  65. I haven't read the comments, but IMO, its the fit and fabric thickness.
    The designe is gorgeous, the color kicks ass, but it looks like a GunneSax circa 1986 JC Penney.
    ReplyDelete
  66. She looks amazing, as usual. "Put the crack pipe down," Tlo : )
    ReplyDelete
  67. I think the green satin dress hangs elegantly on her thin frame, now the shoes look a little payless, no?
    ReplyDelete
  68. Please, please! She's Iman, of course she's in. In is in her name, people! She's practically made of in!
    Seriously, I'm with Bill on this one. Is it her best look? No. She usually looks exquisitely impeccable, and she's a hair short of that on this occasion, but she still looks more attractive and fashionable than most women (of any age).
    ReplyDelete
  69. i respond well to it
    ReplyDelete
  70. even as an "out" she still looks good--
    I think she is being held to a higher standard because she is Iman. We have examined MANY others that are far more "out" than her!
    ReplyDelete
  71. This is what cracks me up:
    T Lo: Her dress is beautiful but her styling and accessories aren't good.
    Commenters: HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?! I TOTALLY DISAGREE!!! Her dress is BEAUTIFUL! Although I don't like her hair and and accessories.
