Because if there's one thing we love to talk about, it's foundation garments.

Our gal Laura Bennett made an appearance on the Today Show this morning to talk about her latest iVillage fashion strip, Case Clothed. Check it:

Is she not fabulous and adorable?

And yes, the models were wearing pieces from her new line, which will be sold at high end stores. More details on that as we get them, but kittens, we've seen some of these pieces up close the last couple of times we visited and they are impeccable.

She sent us some pics a while back when they were works in progress. Trust us, these pics don't do them justice:

Gorgeous, no? Chic, classic and very, very Laura. Save your pennies, gals!

  2. Is that trench black or charcoal grey? Either way it's gorgeous.

And she was fabulous on the Today Show this morning.

  3. SOOO gorgeous. Cannot wait to learn where I can buy.

  4. I'd wear every single piece. And I may, especially after buying some new shapewear (though I already own that strapless slip and yes, it's wonderful).

  5. Love Laura, love her style, love her clothes, and I am definitely saving my pennies for that black wool off-the-shoulder number!

    Thank you Boys!

Does it stay up? I have visions of it suddenly rolling down like the top of a pair of control top pantyhose.

  7. IT MUST BE SAID...

that the host of that segment was a complete DOLT.

    "still designing" to Laura?

"so go to uh, ivillage, and maybe you'll get uh, your own cartoon"

aren't they supposed to wake the today show hosts up before they go on air?

She was condescending and seemed completely uninterested and ill-informed. Like the segment was some sort of chore.

    And with LAURA!

  8. I covet all these!

But will DEF be purchasing the low cut black with the flower at the waist!

  9. You're screwing with a woman who is prone to Seasonal Affective Disorder here, when you dangle beautiful samples before her eyes and then don't tell her exactly when, where and how she can get them.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Laura- fabulous as always. Cool as a cucumber, especially working with that talking head, who I would have bitch-slapped if she interrupted me one more time.

Oh, and sign me up for every single item from her line.

    ReplyDelete
  11. yes veruca, yes. The bitch-slap.

  12. It isn't that I just WANT the v-neck cocktail dresses (the black and the silver). I NEED them.
TLo - meet me at Barneys.

  13. That bobble head hostess had the gall to say "Good luck with that" to Laura? How dare she!

Isn't that the way Yankees tell each other to drop dead?

  14. " personette said...IT MUST BE SAID...

I have a friend who used to be a news producer & she used to say, 'they really are all like Ted Baxter.' They all have to be told exactly what to say & ask, or they are completely blank.

Apparently this woman wasn't paying attention when the segment producer briefed her. She also waited too long into the interview (in my opinion) to mention that the clothes the models were wearing were from Laura's new line. As a plug, I would have liked it better if she'd mentioned that earlier so interested people could have paid more attention to the clothes as well as the foundation garments.

    LOVE. HER.
Her new collection is beautiful! Very chic, very LBD, very rich bitch!

  16. Wow, Laura is getting quite comfortable on camera. She seemed a bit nervous when she was on "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style," but she has really mastered the art now. She would be an excellent television host.

  17. gotham tomato:

Amazingly, it does stay up, and it doesn't even leave the usual horrid red welts. I tend to have more problems with slips (including this one) rolling up as I sit down. Answer of course is just to keep moving.

  18. I want the botom two items, and the first one, and the lace one. Where and when??

  19. Sewing Siren -

I'll fight you for them. Gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I heart LB - and I am a gay with 28" waste who doesn't need foundation garments. Why is it always "womenswear, womenswear, womenswear?" Why can't LB design for her gays? You know we'd snap it up.

  21. personette perfectly expressed my thought about that MORONIC intrviewer.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Does anyone have a favorite place in NYC to get the foundation garments? Thanks!

  25. I love love love that silvery v neck dress. The pleated skirt would be so flattering on me.

Unfortunatly I will never be able to afford anything in her line thats not on QVC...but I can covet them from afar.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I love the charcoal grey (black?) sheath, though I will definitely have to buy some shapewear at the same time. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's so adorable that she wore the same black dress that was featured in the cartoon. It really made it seem like her superhero costume.

I love every single thing from the pics (well, except the big lace boob-flower). Wish I could afford it.

Domestic art. I call it "Clothesline Colorwheel". Sometimes I do food art, too

  29. LOVE Laura. LOVE the clothes. BUT, she designed clothes for women with smaller (or no) boobs and who wear size 10 and under. They look fantastic on her (and the same for all of you who will buy them-kudos) but won't work for 75% of the women in the US. I appreciated that at least some of her clothes on QVC had "larger" sizes.

  32. I am so calling that last cocktail dress. GORGE!

    Emma P.

    Personette:
I know, RIGHT! How condescending was that? Laura, being the quintessential class act, merely laughed it away.
    Veruca, re: the bitch slap?
    WORD!

  33. I was unable to watch the Today Show, but it is so awesome that I can go to your site and enjoy the clip (with the bonus of your comments)! A big thanks to TLo for the continuous updates on Laura Bennett. She really is a classy and inspiring person, and is certainly my favorite Project Runway alum. LOVE her new designs!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Am I alone in thinking the grey dress (on the first woman in the segment) a bit dowdy?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Fabulous garments, I can't wait to see more and hopefully afford one of those. Thanks, guys. You're the best!

    ReplyDelete
  36. MUST. HAVE. SECOND. DRESS.

    Oh, and the trench.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So freaking gorgeous!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nice segment by Laura and nice cocktail attire. I love how the silver dress has the detail that echos her famous diamond belt buckle/brooch.

I'm a little too boobalicious to wear that deep V, but that leaves more for everyone else to fight over.

  39. Boy, I have an international business trip coming up in two months, and every piece could work. Beautifully. I'd be seeing those Europeans and raising them with Laura Bennett fabulosity.

Will they (how can I type with hope-crossed fingers?) be available by the end of April?

To GLORIA: One of the best places in NYC for foundation garments - they REALLY fit you - is The Town Shop www.townshop.com at 2273 Broadway (between 81st/82nd Sts.)
    New York, NY 10024 - it's legendary.

    All the best,

  41. hm. I don't get the Laura adulation on the board. All of the clothes look fine. But I've seen them each and every one of them before.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Always a class act. Love LB!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well, of course, she's fabulous and adorable. She's Laura. Those are all lovely, basic pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  44. "the host of that segment was a complete DOLT."

And the camera work was awful, too. Could we have seen any more shots of the middle model's belly button?

Laura, however, worked it like a pro.

  45. Laura, THANK YOU, for designing truly tasteful and beautiful clothes. You are my favorite, favorite, favorite designer of ALL the PR seasons!!!

PS: The first dress and the coat are MINE!!!! Not that I wouldn't covet each piece.

  46. Late to the party (it's that annoying, "clients think I should be working for them instead of hanging around Project Rungay" thing).

First off, does our girl have a set of legs or what? Gorge. She always picks the PERFECT shoes. And, I loved the extra lashes. Hot!

I also will be waiting with credit card in hand to purchase (not the first dress on the show, tho). TLo keep us posted!

Was I the only one who was taken aback by the undergarment gig? I went flying in there thinking that we were going to see lots of her dresses. I finally figured out that the undergarment thing is tied into Case Clothed. (You have to get up pretty early to fool THIS cornpone!) In any case, any Laura exposure is good Laura exposure. She was so composed.

    Love. Her.

Sewing Siren, I also like your "domestic art." What a cool concept.

    ReplyDelete
  47. wow, always loved her. So glad you guys are following her story so we can all stay caught up with her. She just sounds so damn fabulous. An amazing career and awesome looking family life?? She's got it all! Wait, we hate her right??? :)

Thanks! I love any post about Laura.

  50. The clothes are beautiful! You can never go wrong with those classic lines and fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I want them all. And I want them today.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love pebbled tweed. It is so elegant, so Balenciaga!

    ReplyDelete
  53. That's exactly what I told myself, "VERY LAURA!"

    ReplyDelete
  54. what was up with the model wearing the pink shirt and black pants when they were talking about spanx? Was the shirt supposed to not cover all of her belly? Still Love her collection though.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I, too, saw Laura's segment on the TODAY show and was appalled at the way Ms. Co-host handled the interview. She was rude, condescending, uninterested and ill-informed. As usual Laura was a dream and handled the situation with grace and professionalism. She didn't seem at all flummoxed by the woman's treatment of the segment and saved the whole situation with professionalism and absolutely amazing pieces from her collection. I loved everything, but do covet the LBD with the lace overlay. That little number was simply too exquisite for words.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh if only I could afford her line and if only I had somewhere to wear them.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well, she IS a mom of six but really, Ms. Bennett has serious Help; I kinda resent the way she is marketed as a SuperMom without mentioning the Nanny and the Help.

regardless, she's still Faboo. I admire her (and Professor Gunn) for their sincere efforts at bringing classy back.

ALL television hosts are ill-informed, pushy, dull and obnoxious.

Sewing Siren: you are amazing! have you another home on the internets where we can oooh and aaah at your sewing and domestic art and whatnots?

    ReplyDelete
  58. i need every single one of these garments in my closet immediately! i dont even care that i have nowhere to where them. i just have to have them because they are so perfect!

i have to say, that of all the designers on PR, laura has to be the most thoughtful of them all. she knows exactly what women want and need, as well as how to construct gorgeous timeless garments that feel comfortable and complete.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I really love the collection and I'm surprised by that. I don't know why, either. Everything looks like a classic element every woman should own, but with a nice little kick to them. The silvery white dress is my favorite, but alas and alack, I have far too much boobage to pull it off. Oh well, I will admire from afar and dream of the day someone offers to pay for my plastic surgery so I can wear such a glorious dress.

  60. Gloria said: "Does anyone have a favorite place in NYC to get the foundation garments? Thanks!

sorry if this has been answered already, but my choice: Macy's!

they usually have a pretty good selection of undergarments in general, and typically an entire section just to foundationwear.

and if you dont like it there, try checking out barenecessities.com. they usually have good sales and "buy 1/get 1" offers.

i'd also like to second this rec'. one of my friends is more *endowed* than i am and SWEARS by this place! she's a fussy lady and she's got nothing but raves about them! she's says it's pricey but worth every penny.

  62. she is my DIVA!!!

    i love her!!!

    XOXO

    I cannot wait!

  65. I want every single piece, and I want them now. The kids don't really need to go to college.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'll probably never dress like her (because I can't walk three feet in heels), but Laura's poise and professionalism is something that I would definitely love to emulate. Love her.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think Laura is great, of course. I know it's not her thing, but I would also like to see something that you don't have to be a size 8 to wear.

    Her dresses really are beautiful!

The host (was that Natalie Morales -- she looks like a mini-Maria Shriver to me) seemed very uneasy. Laura, of course, did not flinch at the host's nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Laura's a doll, but those pieces are a tad too Ann Taylor-ish for my taste. Yawn. Sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  69. To Sewing Siren: I always look forward to your designs! Love the clothesling.

And thank you all so much for the foundation advice. I have been to The Town Shop for bras and they were so helpful. Will try it for the other stuff - and check out the other suggestions as well.

    Gresat group here - thanks!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. oy vey. Sewing Siren - not a sling...a line...it's a clothesline.
    I knew that...

    ReplyDelete
  71. Okay, I just noticed this....

Laura puts a *diamond necklace* on the dress form with the black number she wore on the show?!? H

How fabulous is that? Even the dummy is accessorized....

    ReplyDelete
  72. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Laura designs for REAL women, not the flat ironing boards we are bombarded with on runways and in fashion magazines.

    I love Laura's designs.
These are clothes that real women can wear and want to wear because we can wear them without exceedingly tight underwear!

Great job Laura! Keep them coming!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh my gosh, WHERE will those be sold! I must have that first black V-neck dress!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I am LOVING that jersey red dress...
    I WANT IT...
    Love,

  75. Gloria-

I also love The Town Shop on New York's Upper West Side. You get very personal service in that store. The salespeople spend a great deal of time with each customer making sure you find the undergarments that work for your body. I'm horrified that I spent such a long time wearing certain bras, slips, etc - the new ones they helped me find at The Town Shop (not fancy brands or anything) look 100s better.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Where? When? How?

(no need to answer who or why)

    ReplyDelete
  77. What I really love about her is that, just likes Coco Chanel, she also wears the clothes she designs. Does Vera Wang do that? Hell no.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I liked the clothes from Laura's new line but hated the foundation garments. I'll never understand why mother's have to hide every sign of childbearing and have to look like they never had a child. Plus the stuff looked just as embarrassingly oldfashioned and granny liked as ever. Nothing new despite all that talk about high fashion material. Oh and it's all polyester, if I'd wear that under my new cotton dress, I would sweat no end.
But I would love to see more of Lauras new line.
