Yup, I think Sweet P and Rami are toast. I would venture to guess that something(s) in the MMA collections is supposed to provide them with a specific point of reference or inspiration, and that they're supposed to give the judges a taste of what their final collections would be like. And it sure does look as if Rami gets dinged for going toga yet again.
Daube, it certainly is the MMA. Which would certainly seem to be a far more, shall we say, consonant? appropriate? ahh, this is the word: WORTHY venue for St. Tim.
Nice field trip for a refreshing change!
Oh, TLo, can you just imagine the mellifluosity of audio featuring both St. Tim and Philippe de Montebello? An aural banquet.
This could be a beautiful challenge! But, if Rami makes another of his dowdy togas (yes, yes, I know we saw his output on Friday...)... there'll be some invective hurled at the television on Wednesday night.
I was just there on Friday night. The new Galleries are gorgeous (though they did take out the fountains that the kids bathed in in the Mixed of Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler) It's not just Greek and Roman statues, but Etruscan art and jewelry and glass...definitely worth seeing...
Wouldn't it be ironic if Rami, who won for a toga in the very first challenge, ended up eliminated for a toga in the very last challenge? Especially if the challenge were specifically toga-related?
It would seem less like it took 10 episodes for Rami to choke, and more like it took 10 episodes for the judges to come to their senses.
I love that last shot, though. Very Reservoir Dogs.
Okay, we know how Rami will be inspired either to drape (togas) or to produce another variant on the armor-like top and pleated skirt of the Hershey's and Levi's challenges (ancient armor)... but how will Christian be inspired to turn out yet another puffed-sleeve jacket with a pleated placket?
Hmmm...I wonder if they get to choose from any artistic movement to take their inspiration.
SweetP should be toast, but the look on her face on the runway, looks like the reaction to someone else getting a bad critique (likely Rami).
Rami will likely do another drapey thing, but from what Christian is buying, it sounds like he'll be doing more of the same as well (so who knows). I'm sure they'll make them all sweat (isn't that the tradition now, for that last challenge?)
If they did let SweetP into the final 3, how embarrassed they must be now, given that her 'collection' was so far below the other 4, that it was almost laughable. And also kind of cruel, because she's clearly there because of Bravo's ideas about demographic relatability - not talent or skill.
But how lucky for the designers (and Tim) that they got to roam the Met when it was empty. I got to do that once, a few years ago, and it was one of the highlights of my life.
Can't wait to see this Wednesday who makes it. I'm going with some other people's predictions that Sweet P and Rami will be the ones to bite it this week. At least I hope so...Rami is getting on my last nerve.
I'm confused... 5 contestants left... and all 5 got to show at Bryant Park... but we'll only see 3 on air? So this week, two will be eliminated? Did they know they were eliminated before they made their BP collections? Or does it just not matter?
Hmmm...Greek & Roman statues...how about a fierce toga for a fierce Christian fighting the lions...and I want to see him try it on.... complete with fierce lace up sandals up to the knee in black leather. (but...how to get puffy sleeves on a toga???)
I'll watch it, for sure, just to see who goes to BP. But the fact that all the shows have been posted makes the next 3 (4?) episodes more than a little anticlimactic. Sigh....
Great! Now we know Rami is not going anywhere. Why don't they just hand the prize to him now? Were the producers trying to come up with a challenge where a toga would be a must?
I am sure they were expecting a MUCH more fabulous excursion than up 5th Ave. I mean last year they're jetted off to Paris, I thought "how will they top that"? Looks like they didn't even try.
First off, how about that solo picture of Tim standing amongst the other exquisite pieces of art? He looks like a beautiful and poised addition to the room.
Nina complains about the "Grecian" influence, therefore I agree with those who are saying she's directing her comments towards Rami. I think during Nina's tirade at Rami, Sweet P is caught looking up at him several times. She's tuned into the feelings of the others and has done that kind of thing all season long. I think it's her way of trying to be supportive.
It's interesting that Christian asked for a total of 25 yards of fabric! He also said that he wasn't going to play it safe.
Something else I noticed - they didn't give Jilly much edit either way.
Based upon all of this, I think the final three are Christian, Jilly, and Chris. I think that Rami's incredulous "what...?" is a reaction to his aufing.
Wouldn't it be cruel if they send all 5 them to make their final collections and don't announce who is "in" the offical finale until the morning of the show.
Lima bean said, "First off, how about that solo picture of Tim standing amongst the other exquisite pieces of art? He looks like a beautiful and poised addition to the room."
Pity, though, that he wasn't dressed like the kouros in the second picture!
Chris's little "it's in your hand" episode at Mood made me love him a little more - stressed to the edge but still able to laugh at himself. I'm still in Sweet Pea's corner although I don't think she was a finalist. I just admire a woman of a certain age who continues to challenge herself on a personal level yet retains her quality of concern for others in the group. You know Rami, Christian and Jillian would walk over the corpses to get to where they need to go.
On a separate note, thanks so much to Tom and Lorenzo for bringing us all so much fun this season. You made it a lot brighter. Me2
Love the screen cap of Tim among the sculptures. If I were to trust the editing, it would seem that Sweet P and Rami are the two to go, but the Elves have changed it up a bit the last few episodes so it's hard to tell.
With a double elimination at the end, it does beg the question of why they brought Chris back. Not that I mind--his aufing was particularly random, but by the math, they didn't need to.
Adore the Met, art + fashion=fabulous, and this is definitely a gargantuan step up from the wrestling ring. Although I maybe would have preferred a trek to the MoMA to find a source of inspiration, just because I personally prefer to see more outside the box thinking. From the previews, it looks like Christian is the only one inspired to take a leap of faith and adopt the go big or go home philosophy. If so, rock on, Ferosha.
That said, I also do have some respect for Rami sticking to his aesthetic guns in the face of the judges' "don't you ever not drape" mantra. Rami has a good sense of his identity as a designer, and if that identity doesn't fit in with the Project Runway tradition, I'd rather see him stay true to himself and get auf'd for it. Some designers just simply don't do over the top or edgy stuff, and that's...okay. Because they're good enough, the clothes are pretty enough, and gosh darn it, people like them.
"I love that last shot, though. Very Reservoir Dogs."
I think it will be Rami and Sweet P eliminated, but I hope it is Rami and Jillian. I can't stand Jillian (to see she actually curls her hair that way is even more amazing-why would you do that?)and I hope that she gets the boot.
Rami and Sweet P appear to be getting the Auf edit. Rami will go Roman/Greco again. Sweet P has stated several times that she doesn't do Avante Garde or over the top fashions. Jillian, Christian and Chris excel at this type of challenge as evidenced by the "En Garde" episode. These previews make me understand Chris's story for the runway even more.
Well according to all internet gossip, Victoria Beckham almost let the cat out of the bag. She kinda told who won. She said "HE". So we know one of the guys won. Sorry Jillian and Sweet P.
I wonder if they were limited to the Greek and Roman galleries. They must have been there in May or June last year, during the Barcelona and Modernity exhibit. There are endless inspiring places in the Met--the tranquil Astor Court, the Costume Institute, 20th century American art, paintings spanning every era, acres of decorative arts. A truly fabulous challenge--I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
"If they did let SweetP into the final 3, how embarrassed they must be now, given that her 'collection' was so far below the other 4, that it was almost laughable. And also kind of cruel, because she's clearly there because of Bravo's ideas about demographic relatability - not talent or skill."
Blah, blah, blah, blah
So many people on here have said that Pea's is their favorite collection.
To use your own words "HOW EMBARASSED YOU MUST BE."
I am hoping that the Rami edit is just baiting. Regardless of what people take as his "limited" aesthetic, he has consistently performed well in task after task. As for Sweet P, while most people like her, she is lucky to have gotten this far. While she's pulled out a couple of very pretty dresses, I personally have trouble qualifying anything she has created as "design".
Of course, I'm still pulling for Jillian overall, and since I haven't seen the BP collections on purpose, it's hard for me to predict what might have happened.
Daxx said... I am hoping that the Rami edit is just baiting. Regardless of what people take as his "limited" aesthetic, he has consistently performed well in task after task.
I agree. I would really hate to see him go. The workmanship on his finale collection is astounding whoever wins one of his gowns at auction, is lucky indeed, look at the Sparkles gallery.
I'm guessing that each contestant gets to pick a particular piece of artwork that inspires them and then translate it into an outfit. Rami picks something with a classical Greek theme which annoys the judges.
There is a special exhibit at the MMA running through April. Here's the description from the website:
As a living art form, fashion is open to multiple readings. A vibrant reflection of contemporary culture, fashion—especially in its most avant-garde expressions—affects us through its intense visual impact. blog.mode: addressing fashion is the first in a series of shows designed to promote critical and creative dialogues about fashion. The exhibition presents some forty costumes and accessories dating from the eighteenth century to the present—all recent Metropolitan Museum acquisitions—and invites visitors to share their reactions online or from a "blogbar" of computer terminals in the exhibition galleries.
I saw it over Christmas and it was fabulous!!! Maybe the designers went to see that.
From the previews, it seems as though when they are talking about going Grecian, they are looking towards Sweet P and Chris. And when they are talking about being a sportswear designer, they are looking toward Rami.
And when Nina says "You have more tricks up your sleeve, that is what I wantED to see from you," I think Chris responds.
But his design looks very interesting on the mannequin, Jillian's looks like Tinkerbell's on the mannequin, and I can't see enough of Rami's to see if he is draping.
Hey folks before you all get into another war of words with GothamTomato, can I remind you that she is doing what everyone else is doing......Expressing her opinion!
Yes she is passionate about her feelings conerning Sweet P's talent as a designer. But so what? There have been plenty of passionate commentary about other designers from this season alone both positive and negative.
SP has gotten a chance to show at Bryant Park. I doubt if she needs you to defend her against any detractors.
Appearing at bryant Park is all that matters-even if it's as a decoy. The reality is, outside of the cash, the advantages to actually winning the title is, in the longrun, small compared to the exposure of presenting the runway show. After 4 seasons we know getting that kind of exposure can open doors. Unlike like a show like American Idol, being on PR will not guarenttee you a quick path to wealth and fame. It will still take a little luck and time to achieve that. How much real success is achieved depends on each person in the end.

I agree 100%. Let's enjoy the fact that, unlike other sites out there, we can express our opinion (positive or negative)here.
In May and June last year, the Costume Institute had an exhibit on Paul Poiret, who was innovative for his time because he designed by draping fabric on the body. Shades of Rami....
It sounds like the judges get onto Rami in the end for the indefatigable and (aside from the denim challenge) uninterrupted drapery. Nina is absolutely right! "I'm sure you have other tricks, not JUST THIS ONE." Or something to that effect.
If he drapes everything at Bryant park, then it's curtains for him (no pun intended).
"Frank said: Hey folks before you all get into another war of words with GothamTomato, can I remind you that she is doing what everyone else is doing......Expressing her opinion!"
Thanks Frank. Though it isn't 'folks' (plural), it's just two trolls with an odd obsession and too much time on his/her hands.
With regard to Rami's tricks; hmmm....I'll bet Jay will have something interesting to say about Rami, and who else might be interested in his tricks, in his ongoing soap opera channeling Tim's inner dialogue.
With a double elimination at the end, it does beg the question of why they brought Chris back. Not that I mind--his aufing was particularly random, but by the math, they didn't need to.
I'm guessing he was brought back because there were outside clients for the challenge and this woman's clothes had already been cut up. I bet if it had been a challenge with the models, he would have stayed out and they would have had a single elimination on this next challenge.
Based on past editing patterns, I predict Rami will stay in because the previews keep hinting that he's leaving, with his "It's the end of the journey" comments. Those editors are such a tease.
Snuggle Monster said: "I agree with Anonymous 12:29. Sweet Pea's was my favorite collection. I think the only thing that is "laughable" is your constant harping on her.Indeed "how embarrassed you must be."
Thanks Snuggle. So many of us feel exactly the same way you do. Just do what one should when someone's petulent, spoiled, horrible child enters a room full adults and demands attention.
Ignore it.
Sweet Pea has more than proven her worth and her skill. She has shown her collection at Fashion Week. Friends who were there say she was VERY warly received.
This disgruntled hater is just a sad consequence of fame. "Laughable? No talent or skill??"
How lucky are those of you who live in or near New York to be able to see the Met's special exhibit. Color me green with envy!
Re the advantage of being the winner, unless things have changed a lot from the first year, there are also a lot of restrictions associated with being the winner. Perhaps just showing, coming in second or third and then spring-boarding from that exposure has advantages as well.
That said, can't say I love how PR-4's schedule gallops across Fashion Week, like a herd of stampeding wildebeasts. We are left in a time warp pretending we haven't seen the final runway shows during the next episodes.
rosie's girl said, can't say I love how PR-4's schedule gallops across Fashion Week, like a herd of stampeding wildebeasts.
Love the analogy!
You know, I've been thinking that they should consider having the finale live, much as Top Chef did this season. I suppose the difficulty is that the Fashion Week shows are held during the day, and they need prime time, but it might be worth looking into.
When would this have been filmed? Because up until early August there was a Poiret exhibit being displayed right next to the Greek and Roman statue garden. The fact that Sweet P is talking about something with a peacock says in my mind, "It's the Poiret!" Believe me, peacocks were right up that guy's alley. However, there were also pieces in there that looked like something Rami would take and turn into a toga.
Who knows... I could be entirely off base. Anyway, here is the MMA's page about the exhibition. http://www.metmuseum.org/special/se_event.asp?OccurrenceId={0DC3D00F-4611-4F91-8DC2-CC3C1A5C48D5}
Also...I find it interesting that they have a fashion blog with some truly amazing stuff. http://blog.metmuseum.org/blogmode/
I could be entirely off base though, it all depends on when this episode was filmed.
Also... the fact that we saw Chris kinda crying screams to me he's in. They wouldn't tell us he's out like that. Unless they're messing with our minds.
C'mon, you know they are messing with our minds. One thing they have consistently done with previews is show a different designer's reaction to a judge's comment (e.g. judge says something about Rami, but reaction shot is of Jillian).
Also if Rami's "what?" and Chris's crying were dead giveaways, would they be shown? When has it happened in the past?
The only thing we can rely on is where the judges are looking when they comment. Personally I think Kors is saying that Jillian is an American sportswear designer. Which she is -- no giveaway there. Alternatively, that being said to Rami could have inspired the "what?" But I find that unlikely. Kors is looking far left, towards Jillian or Christian, and Rami is in the middle.
I agree that Chris is saying "right" to Nina's "I wanted to see you out of this box".
What to make of it all, I have no idea.
I wonder when they found out that they were all going to show at BP? Surely after this episode was filmed, with all the references to showing there.
Wouldn't it be cruel if they send all 5 them to make their final collections and don't announce who is "in" the offical finale until the morning of the show.
Wow! That would explain a lot, including Rami's "What?" and Chris's relieved tears, as someone else said.
Sweet P--Byzantine inspired yellow dress with jeweled neckline (she was the hardest to pick)
Jillian--Auguste Renoir (La Loge) inspired black and white striped top with the loopy sleeves.
Then again, I could be totally, totally wrong. But it was big fun going through their runway collections and trying to guess the "oddball" inspired look.
I really think Christian won it all - after all we know the judges love the avant garde. However, since they loved Rami so much early on I picked him as the winner early on in the Tresamme challenge!! Oh, no! I really don't think he won, but I do think he was one of the final three because of the strange editing Bravo does to mislead us. I'm glad more designers got to show their work - I wish they had done that last year! And please don't dog Jillian's hair - as a naturally curly girl myself it isn't as easy as it looks! (You should see us when it rains!)

Yep. It seems that way. I'd never seen the movie. So now I'm wondering where the fierce & the ferosh come from as well. Could they be from Animal Planet?
gothamtomato said... ...So now I'm wondering where the fierce & the ferosh come from as well. Could they be from Animal Planet?
Yes indeed! I remember it well. A pack of wolverines was filmed over several weeks. Each fell prey to those who were stronger in the pack until the last surviving wolverine proclaimed his alpha status by snarling, "I'm ferosh! I just ate my brother, Fierce, and boy was he tough" Ferosh was then given a car and $100,000.
Oh. Wait. That happened in the last episode of Projects Runway 1, 2 and 3. Sorry!
Yes, that's totally MoMA. I recognize that sculpture gallery - oh, it's new? I think I remember some of the sculptures, anyway.
Yay, the gay boys finally see cute naked boys in full frontal nudity!! WooHoooo!
OK, so they're made of marble. Beggars can't be choosy.
Oh, YAY. Togas. Hey, Rami! Olive is not a traditional toga color, I don't think. Oh, just fuckity fuck. Why bother? Just say, "OK, Jillian, Rami, Christian, you're F3. Chris and Sweet P, we love you, but you're owt, so go home and take a nice bubble bath and a long nap. Kthnxbye."

They better not send Jillian home, she had the best collection!

Haaaa! Christian is totally Mr. Pink.
Yay! More togas!!...'cause we haven't had enough.
That photo of Tim amidst the statuary makes me feel all tingly in my dusty places.
I wonder if this challenge inspired Chris' blue screenprint dress in the finale?
First to admit I'm a giant dope, but I sure can't see any shot of Tim amid art. Am I missing something? Any help greatly appreciated...

So many people on here have said that Pea's is their favorite collection.
To use your own words "HOW EMBARASSED YOU MUST BE."
2 9years in a row.
Give up.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
I agree with Anonymous 12:29. Sweet Pea's was my favorite collection.
I think the only thing that is "laughable" is your constant harping on her.
Indeed "how embarrassed you must be."
Looking forward to this ep.
if Rami fricking uses ancient sculptures to make another toga-tastic dress I might just puke on my television set.

I can't wait! This is very exciting. I love museums!

"Rami, congratulations, you are the winner of this challenge." Yawn.
Oops, sorry, above comment was posted in the wrong thread.

Those two pictures are AWESOME! It's so Mission Impossible, no?
Thanks Lilithcat, it was well worth the wait!

The Met! Watch Rami shrink even further into his little drapey-drapey Grecian box. I hope Nina eviscerates him.
Maybe this is where Chris got the notion to silkscreen George Washington on his first look?
Oh! Rachel upthread had the same idea... guess I shoulda read the comments first.
Do you think they're each assigned different art-inspiration? Or do they get to pick who/what?
As far as the Auf Edit -- it seems too blatant! (Rami and Swee' P auf) -- so maybe it's really others who were out.
PS - Let's guess what final collection piece might've come out of this challenge.
- Jillian's little gold numbah? (I saw a photo with NinaGarcia with a sly smile as that dress walks by.
- Sweet P's beautiful gold tier dress & cape inspired by John Singer Sargent?
- Chris's George Washington blue.
- Rami's Greco-Roman thing.
- Christian's big color/big hat lady is Talouse LaTreque (sp?)
sorry ... big color is "big collar"
In May and June last year, the Costume Institute had an exhibit on Paul Poiret, who was innovative for his time because he designed by draping fabric on the body. Shades of Rami....
Finally, a legit challenge.

Can't wait to read that.

How did you guys get these pictures??
With a double elimination at the end, it does beg the question of why they brought Chris back. Not that I mind--his aufing was particularly random, but by the math, they didn't need to.
I'm guessing he was brought back because there were outside clients for the challenge and this woman's clothes had already been cut up. I bet if it had been a challenge with the models, he would have stayed out and they would have had a single elimination on this next challenge.
Based on past editing patterns, I predict Rami will stay in because the previews keep hinting that he's leaving, with his "It's the end of the journey" comments. Those editors are such a tease.

OK honey.
This sounds like a very interesting challenge. I can't wait! I'd say Christian is the winner and Chris ad Sweet P are OUT.
Wednesday can't come soon enough!
This disgruntled hater is just a sad consequence of fame. "Laughable? No talent or skill??"
RIGHT!! Where is "her" collection at Bryant Park? Seems like Sweet P has accomplished a little more than the city fruit.
Who knows... I could be entirely off base. Anyway, here is the MMA's page about the exhibition. http://www.metmuseum.org/special/se_event.asp?OccurrenceId={0DC3D00F-4611-4F91-8DC2-CC3C1A5C48D5}
In the words of Nelson Muntz...ha ha!
Sewing Siren!! I love that idea!! That would also explain the shocked, "What?" from Rami.
As for Sissybear's crying, I'd think it's more from relief than from being aufed.
TLO, when you go to the finale viewing party, pretty please tell sissybear how much I love him? I'm available if he's in need of a fruit fly.
Reen31
Double elimination? Ouch! That's going to hurt.
I'm glad whoever gets eliminated in the next episode got a chance to show at Bryant Park.
sewingsiren:
Wouldn't it be cruel if they send all 5 them to make their final collections and don't announce who is "in" the offical finale until the morning of the show.
Wow! That would explain a lot, including Rami's "What?" and Chris's relieved tears, as someone else said.
Actually I can't see Bravo placing the two decoys together during the runway finale last Friday.
So my guess is that Rami is out in addition to Sweet P.
Even though I think Chris's laugh/cry is subjective and could be in response to some joking comment anyone says.
BTW, I saw Bruce Villanch just being interviewed on CNN (about the Writer's Strike), and he was wearing a tshirt that read, 'I'm kind of a big deal'.
So Christian has made the Big Time: A Bruce Vilanch tshirt.
--GothamTomato
I did a riff on BPR about what I'm guessing the designers did if
a) the challenge was to use the MMA as inspiration and
b) the look had to show on the runway.
Christian--Rembrandt inspired black suit with ruffled collar and huge hat.
Rami--Greek inspired gold toga.
Chris--Eduard Degas inspired beige feathered dress.
If, indeed, there was one.

Wasn't Christian just quoting a line from the movie Anchorman? (far too oft-quoted among people his age)
Emily seems to be right about the t-shirt.
I'm kind of a Big Deal Anchorman shirt Red
I'm Kind of a Big Deal T-Shirt (Anchorman)
Great challenge! I wish they did more of that sort of thing. Real art, real fashion.

Yep. It seems that way. I'd never seen the movie. So now I'm wondering where the fierce & the ferosh come from as well. Could they be from Animal Planet?

Yes indeed! I remember it well. A pack of wolverines was filmed over several weeks. Each fell prey to those who were stronger in the pack until the last surviving wolverine proclaimed his alpha status by snarling, "I'm
ferosh! I just ate my brother, Fierce, and boy was he tough" Ferosh was then given a car and $100,000.
Oh. Wait. That happened in the last episode of Projects Runway 1, 2 and 3. Sorry!
Oh you guys tease tease tease! I can't wait to view, view again and again this coming epi. So.much.fun.
Much love.
Hey folks before you all get into another war of words with GothamTomato
Frank,
I agree with you.
It's not unlike other forums, where if you want to skip over the person's comments, you just can.
PR can be your life, or something fun. I tend to want to keep it in the fun zone.

Kthnxbye."
"So Christian has made the Big Time: A Bruce Vilanch tshirt."
Eww. I guess if you think Bruce Villanch is a "Big Deal" (he's a big something ....)
BTW, that phrase has been going around Chelsea for at least two years.
What makes you think Christian had anything to do with it?
LOL
Yeah, Rami is obviously going home.
