Alexandra Vidal Spring/Summer 2008 Collection

Alexandra Vidal, that adorable blonde from season one, has a pretty little confection of a collection out for Spring/Summer 2008. Here's what she had to say to us about it:

"Dear Tom and Lorenzo,

Thank you so much for your interest in my new collection. I'm delighted you are putting it on your site!

The inspiration for this collection came from Ladurée, the famous French patisserie. I've named the outfits after different French pastries and desserts.

After Project Runway, I stayed in Miami and sold my clothes to boutiques mainly there, although also to Kirna Zabete in New York City. Then I met the man I would marry and prepared for my wedding. I made my dress myself using 65 yards of silk chiffon! I moved to Manhattan and took two seasons off from my collections and designed for private clients only while I gathered my thoughts about the direction I wanted to move in. The result is the new collection which I think reflects well where I want to go and the sensibility I want to convey.

Again, my gratitude for your interest.

Best wishes,

Alexandra"

We think these looks are chic, cool, feminine and very, very French. What do you guys think?

  1. Like a little box of sherberts -- or sorbets, maybe. Sweet and feminine. (Though I'm not sure I love the accordian collar). Her decision to take some time off to think really shows -- this is much higher quality work than she produced on PR. Go Alexandra!

  8. She was the one ousted for doing a Missoni/Kors lookalike bathing suit for the "party" in S1 with the page 6 columnist.

Love the pink one with ruffles--not sure I could wear any of them because shiny doesn't does with lump..ahem, curvy.

love, Love, LOVE that she seems to have begun staying away from the self-tanner lotion! She looks great!

  12. I'm glad she's still designing. I thought she was great on the show. I think PR is a great place for designers to get their name out there. It seems like a lot of the real talented designers who were on are pursuing their fashion goals and doing it successfully.

  13. I have a soft spot for the sweet : -) and feminine look. The first one is my favorite.

  14. The last one is absolutely gorgeous. It reminds me of the last Dior cruise collection. Good luck to you, Alexandra!

  15. The ice blue gown and the last one (gray blue) are really lovely. I also love the ice blue blouse with the Peter Pan collar. Those are my faves. Congrats to Alexandra.

  16. Wow... what a lovely collection. While I haven't been to Laduree, I've seen pictures of their pastries and her collection is indeed very reminiscent of the colors and overall feel of their products.

  17. What a beautiful collection. She is very talented. I would love to see a wedding gown made from 65 yards of silk organza also.

  21. If I'm not mistaken some of her designs were featured in the Lucky magazine. This collection is very feminine and definitely elegant. I love the pruned-colored dress.

Anyone else distracted by the weird expressions on the Angie Harmon-looking model?

  24. Really lovely, and quite influenced by the 30's...I think I am beginning to see a trend among many designers to mine the 30's again. Of course Ralph has been doing that for eons...

  25. That last dress is perfection!

Alexandra mixes vintage with modern really well. I still remember her dress for the Banana Republic challenge. It was beautiful!

  27. The pale green petal skirt? WANT, although I dislike the inverted-pleat trapeze top (faux-maternity, and too much fabric to tuck in smoothly for non-models).

The other garments are also lovely although I am not thin or bustless enough to wear them :) Brava Alexandra!

Ralph Lauren has helped create a classic American style. His spring summer 2008 collection was like a scene from My Fair Lady. Simply divine!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!

  31. Adorable!
The confection of color, tailoring and style is very indicative of her oeuvre.
    Bravissima!

  41. Very Monique Lhuillier-ish.

    Love her!

Loved her Banana Republic almost as much as Jay's.

  44. I always wondered if she had hair extensions in Season One. Guess so, huh?

  45. gorgeous!
i covet the first dress, the very popular celadon skirt, and the final dress.

hair extensions? its been at least 3 years. Hairstyles change. What makes you think she had hair extensions?

    im just wondering.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yum! Some of them are a bit frou-frou for anything I would put on myself, but even those, I love the design and the ideas. And some of them just have such classic, beautiful lines, it makes me want to cry. I think souffle aamenthe is my favourite.

I like that they're all feminine without being girly and silly, and that's a hard line to tread for me.

Brilliant: Yes, and also the wierd nailpolish was distracting.
And now I'm hungry, too. Great.

  49. besides being an excellent designer, she's also a keen writer! nice prose!

  50. I second (third, fourth) the request to see her 65-yard wedding dress. Would you ask her, you guys?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I adore her skirts. Beautiful, classic, and elegant. Just lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Absolutely beautiful and so girly!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I want the green one. What for, I don't have a clue, as there isn't a place in town I could wear that and not look crazy, but I LOVE it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. "hair extensions? its been at least 3 years. Hairstyles change. What makes you think she had hair extensions?"

If you watch Season One there is no doubt she had hair extensions. I believe someone (Robert? Jay?) may have even commented on them once. There was certainly enough footage of her blowing out her hair....LOL

  55. The collection has a Grace Kelly vibe to it: very proper without being prudish.

    Very nice.

  56. She's so gorgeous! I love her. Her clothes are beautiful. Simply divine!

  57. I am so hating on the clown collar with the cage back.

    HATE IT.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Beautiful collection. I love every piece!

  59. If I needed a wedding dress I'd grab that first look - gorgeous. I love the green petal skirt (even though Isaac Mizrahi did a dress for Target with a very similar petal skirt a few months ago), the blue skirt and the long pink dress. Hate those smock-like, loose tops and the weird collars. But I will say that even if I don't love everything it holds together very well as a coherent collection.

I don't know about hair extensions during the show but girlfriend needs a serious trim. I haven't seen such thin, ratty, straggly hair with such horribly damaged ends in a long time. Trust me, get a trim - your hair will look a lot better. Other than that she is gorgeous.

  60. I don't understand why every designer in the world EXCEPT Jay McCarroll has managed to get out at least one collection.

I do like these looks. Most of them. I vaguely remember Alexandria with a mental note that she was voted out too early and it was a surprise that she was chosen to go. Can't remember the why of the mental note, however.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Nachee, Jay McCaroll has put out two collections.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I would love to see a picture of Alexander's wedding dress.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nice collection overall, don't think I could wear any of them but I'm used to that.

I just wanted to mention how positively refreshing it is that these models are standing up straight and not slouched in some weird frumpy pose that makes even a 90 pound model look heavy and misshapen. It makes them and the clothes look so much better.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Gorgeous, exquisite-and her clothes are breathtaking too!
I would have liked to know the name of each one. Being able to connect it with her inspiration.

The costumes in "Marie Antoinette" were also inspired by Laduree.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I really think it's just me, because I realy don't think that many of her dresses are very flattering. They have too much fabric and make the models look short wasted. The colors are beautiful and I think that it is very appropriate for a spring collection, however, it isn't very imaginitive.

Despite my negative commentary on her designs and under tailoring, I think that the fabrics are delectable.

Overall, I found her collection to be passable. I also think she should be working for Lilly Pulitzer.

    ReplyDelete
  66. They are cute but some of hte dresses scream bridesmaid dresses from the 70s.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Now that stuff is PRETTY!

  68. Great collection. Very sophisticated. Alexandra has great taste.
