He's Lost It.

Actually, that's not true. He looks like he's just having fun with it. In a video posted on YouTube in the last 24 hours (in other words, the day the New York Magazine story that proclaimed him "homeless" broke), Jay McCarroll wanders the streets of New York in a bad wig and a sign that reads "Will Design for Food."

Say what you will about him, he's got a hell of a sense of humor.

    ROFL.

  6. LOL. Jay is not homeless! He lives in a beautiful building on the Upper West Side, has recently been tapped to head up the re-launch of classic 80’s sportswear brand Camp Beverly Hills and also has his own line and show premiering on QVC this fall.

  8. Too, too funny!!!

Fun to see him laughing at the article rather than getting upset about it.

P.S.- Nice to see him doing his bit to give tourists the full-on New York experience. They'll all go back to Podunk and say, 'you won't BELIEVE what I saw...'

  10. I thought the whole homeless think was a bit exaggerated.

  11. DERELICTE!

    i adore jay.

  12. That's hysterical, so he was just screwing around about being homeless and sleeping in the office when he's drunk? He certainly had me going, I admit it!

  13. If you've got to be homeless, a Mercedes SLK's not a bad place to sleep.

  14. I love Jay! He's talented, funny and someone who is not afraid to laugh at himself. I think more of us need to be that way. We take things WAY too seriously in our culture.

  15. That's so funny! Kudos to you, Jay!

  16. Yeah, funny, but is that going to help his career?

  17. Jay is so entertaining. He should write a one man show and perform it on stage.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree with Anon. 4:28.

Jay needs his own show. But it should be on Bravo.

  19. " I'm homeless......apparently."

    Too funny.

  20. Now THAT's creativity! All this boy needs is someone who will deal with all the mundane details of the business for him...because it sure seems like every other fashion designer out there has one!

  21. Jay should have his own show!

  22. funny, but not that funny (...apparently)

  23. Whenever I see anything about Jay in print, I'm always like, "What an ass. I loathe him." But then when I see him on video, I just adore him all over again. This happened last year; some snotty interview with him came out, and I was rolling my eyes at his arrogance and his tone, and then a few days later Project Jay was on, and I remember why I liked him so much. I guess his attitude and humor doesn't translate well to the written word.

  24. Yep, like that's gonna help him find investors for his business. NOT!!

While this was amusing, it's also precisely the reason why Jay is failing with his fashion career.

Just give it up, Jay. Be a professional famewhore like Santino.

  25. I thought the sign was funny, but not as funny as the 'Will vote Republican for food' one I saw in SF a few years back. Jay is certainly a first-class whimperer though.

But America's next great designer? Uh, no. And that's too bad. He remains his own worst enemy, even on YouTube.

  26. I love all the people asking for his picture or his autograph. Hahahahaha.
    Jay is the best!

  27. I thought it was a brilliant idea. I love it!

  28. Cute. I wish he'd shot it on Madison Ave., though. In front of "the stores."

  29. Anon said, ". . .also has his own line and show premiering on QVC this fall."

And he's got that handbag selling at Fred Flare; not enough to make rent, but it's something. Oh, by the way, I saw some Cosa Nostra zipper dresses & some of other pieces at a store in Soho today.

  30. Aw, Jay!

Good thing I didn't bother with all the good advice I was gonna give him for free on the last post...

Boys -- any news of Uli?

  32. What a nutbag. He's hilarious, although I agree with anonymous 7:03 that he really is his own worst enemy. This is not going to get him credibility on 7th avenue, although it might get him an off-off-broadway one man show (which I would TOTALLY go see). Thanks for sharing!

    I think you're right.

I once, jokingly, in response to an interviewer's dumb question about my early career goals, said that as a child I had always wanted to be a Playboy bunny however since I never developed the talents required for that job, I entered my current profession.

It was so obviously a joke, but the writer wrote it in the article as if I was serious (and sounding like a delusional bimbo).

  35. Aaaaaaaah that just SUCKS .They drop the clause and Jay is still out the 100 Gs?
I know people cannot stand him but that is simply shady on the part of Bravo....
and I am sorry but what better line was ther eever than "I didn't steal the bitches dye fo sho"??
And its nice to see Santino is as humble as ever. Making all that money and still sharing a work space? I am sure the Duchess is laughing all the way to the bank.
And all I have to say to Laura is "woooooooork it". "What do you have to offer me"??
    She is my f***ing idol.

  43. The Dish posted this:

"In case you haven't heard, our friends at New York Magazine wrote a little piece on the lives of "Bravoleberties", and show what life is really like for reality stars after the winners have been named and the cameras stop rolling. Project Runway Season One winner Jay McCarroll is described in the article as being "homeless", since he's been crashing on people's couches.

Well... it seems like Jay wasn't too fond of his depiction as some sort of bum, so he's fighting back with a little tragedy/comedy/interpretive dance. We present to you: The Life and Times of Jay McCarroll, Project Runway Superstar- A Tragicomedy in Six Parts.

We're not sure which one we like the best, so thankfully here's a remix of the entire performance piece. Extra points if you can guess who owns the Mercedes at the end!"

I had no idea he owns a Mercedes.
