Sarah Jessica Parker - Vogue Editorial

Our new mascot, Sarah Jessica Parker appeared in a Vogue editorial this month promoting the new Sex and the City movie with her Mr. Big, Chris Noth. In short, it's freaking fabulous. This, to us, is what fashion is really all about; taking the clothes off the runway and making them shine. Say what you will about SJP: that she's over-exposed or over-rated; that she's too much of a shill and too little of an actress. We don't care. The bitch knows. How. To. Wear. Clothes. Every single look looks better on her than it did on the runway. And like we said, that's what it's all about, kittens.

Lanvin Fall 2008 RTW banded washed-silk evening dress.

Chanel Fall 2008 RTW bouclé suit.

Nina Ricci Fall 2008 RTW silk-satin dress.

Alexander McQueen Fall 2008 RTW peacock lace-and-tulle dress.

Narciso Rodriguez Fall 2008 RTW wool dress, with a banded back and an exposed zipper.

Marchesa Fall 2008 RTW satin-organza dress.

Versace Fall 2008 RTW chiffon dress (Also on the cover)

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2008 RTW chiffon evening dress.

"Sarah Jessica says that the only connecting thing between her style and Carrie's is that "we will both try anything. I will try anything for Carrie, and I will try anything for me." She adds that "in real life I never dressed the way she dressed, nor would I." However, she does concede that playing Carrie educated her sartorially. "I grew up in a house of matching. You know, our hair ribbons matched our dress, and our pinafore matched our socks. You didn't clash colors. What I learned by being around Pat Field was there shouldn't be rules in fashion. Things shouldn't go together. And that's the thing that really changed in my own world and the way I choose to dress."

  1. You are so right. She looks much better than the runway models in these dresses. I love the purple. That would be perfect for the NY premiere. Also the peacock dress. Now that is a PEACOCK dress!

  2. What a FABULOUS post, kittens! SJP looks amazing in every single one of these dress. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Marchesa satin-organza dress.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Oh my goodness - the back of that Narciso Rodriguez dress is so sexy. I want that dress!!!
Heading off to Montreal for the weekend with my friends. Have a fabulous Memorial Day weekend, darlings!

    ReplyDelete
  4. That Nina Ricci dress is GORGEOUS. And, yeah, the Narciso Rodriguez looks amazing on her -- well, everything does. The only thing is the Marchesa. . . are those fleurchons I see?!

    ReplyDelete
  5. The inside spread is indeed amazing -- so why is the cover shot so horrific? She looks TERRIBLE! And it does nothing for the dress.

    ReplyDelete
  6. She looks amazing! I love a fabulously chic dress and then an exposed zipper in the back. Didn't Sweet P have a dress with an exposed zipper in her collection?

    ReplyDelete
  7. So it's (presumably) her mother's fault that she doesn't like to match her shoes to her outfits now? OK...I can get behind that sort of logic.

And, hey, Tlo -- your keyboard must be sizzling right now from all the e-research you did to find all those runway original photos. Serious props to you!

  8. I have to add that Chris Noth is SOOOO hot. Aside from needing a little nip/tuck in the eye area to rid him of his bags, I would definitely NOT throw him out of my bed for eating crackers.

Stunning gowns....I am just really really disappointed in the one they chose as her wedding dress....that stupid thing on her head too- GOD I hope its a dream sequence.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Love, love, love this! Fabulous, gorgeous, to die for fashion!

And, check out the puffy sleeves on the Dior Haute Couture jacket, page 125!

  10. Who is the photographer who shot those fabulous pictures??

And BTW, ever since I saw 'Signe Chanel', everytime I see one of those suits with the braiding, I think of that crazy old lady who makes it in her barn.

Same here. Madame Pouzieux - Isn't she fabulous?

  14. For the most part, you are correct.

But the bouclé suit looks way better on the model! Why is SJP wearing the skirt at such a frumpy length? Her hair looks frumpy, too. And that hat! Yuck.

And the pose makes it impossible to tell how that gorgeous Versace evening gown looks on her. It could be just a pile of fabric for all we can see.*

*This is one of my pet peeves about fashion photo shoots. I love artistic photography as much as the next person, or even Irving Penn, but I want to see what the clothes look like!

brooklyn bomber said, The only thing is the Marchesa. . . are those fleurchons I see?!

    ~snicker~

Yes, I believe they are. But used, I think, appropriately. It looks like she tucked a couple of flowers into her dress. I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Me LOVEE some Dolce & Gabanna.
Those pictures are SO freakin sensuous. Love the Ricci gown and think they should consider having a couch at the end of their next runway show. Not crazy and about the exposed zipper and the only one that is out for me completely is the Chanel suit, too matronly, or as the duchess would say, too mother-of-the bride.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sorry guys (and the vast majority) but just can't get behind SJP as an icon, sexy, etc. But the clothes themselves are fab and a nice shot of Chris Noth in the morning is always appeciated!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh and sewing siren, I SO agree.
    THAT is a peacock dress.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Any of these dresses (other than the Alexander McQueen) would have been better for the premieres. And for some reason she looks better in the Chanel than the model, I wonder if she used pins and clips on the back.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Awesome pictures and dresses. I love the Dolce & Gabbana one. I'll take that for my wedding day.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh kittens I saw that in the beginning of the week and thought of you too. Lucky bitch gets to wear all those beautiful gowns.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Beautiful setpieces, beautiful dresses, great shoes. But the most stunning thing she's wearing?

    Chris. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. So New York, I love it : )

    ReplyDelete
  23. I saw that piece and loved it! My favorite shot is the Chanel suit. But my eyes keep going to Chris Noth. He is hysterical in that picture!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh my god I just noticed the two peacock heads on her bust line.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thank you, kittens!

I really should say just one word - WOW. But I can't help myself. Also, Bliss.

Those pics are so gorgeous I'm going to go back on my diet and dream of me wearing that Alexander McQueen.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I want to like her...the clothes are FANTASTIC, obviously, the photographs are so well done, all the pieces are in place...

...but I just can't stand the bitch! In the immortal words on one Mr. Peter Griffin: "Offensive?! They let Sarah Jessica Parker on TV, and she looks like a foot!"

    ReplyDelete
  27. You know, I am not a fan of SJP or SATC, and I'm just bowled over. The pics, the clothes, and even SJP--gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I picked up the issue of VOGUE the other day and was absolutely stunned by the SJP layout. The Narciso Rodriguez gown is to die for! Also lovin' the Nina Ricci & Versace.

Not especially a SJP fan, but she did look good. Mr. Big aka Chris Noth is another story. Saggy eyes and gut, or not, the man is the epitome of hotness. Thanks, guys for a super kick-off of the holiday weekend!

Oh, and I, too, saw the documentary on the crazy French country lady, "Madame Pouzieux" who makes all the Chanel braiding. What a darling!

    - edina -

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm in awe here. This is the reason why I f***ing love fashion. Those pics are GORGE!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh. My. GAWD. I am in love with those pictures... I am in love with Carrie and Big, too, so that helps. ;^) Cannot WAIT for the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This post is simply gawchuss! I LOVE all the dresses, especially the Narciso Rodriguez! I'm not a SJP fan but I can’t deny that she looks pretty amazing in these pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mmmmmm....Chris Noth......

Oh yeah, SJP looks good in those clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have never been a SJP fan, but I have to admit, she looks really really good here. The girl knows how to pose! That, combined with the gorgeous dresses and fantastic photography makes this a knockout spread. Thanks, boys, for pointing it out --I hate the cover (why does everyone always look so spaced out on these covers??) and I would have never opened the magazine otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  34. There was a woman in those pics??? Huh, I just saw that guy... swoon swoon.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Q: Why does Sarah Jessica Parker look better in the clothes than the models do?

A: Because she's a trained dancer. She knows how to move her body, arms and legs to show them off to their advantage. She's an actress--so her expressions and her movement gives life to the clothes. The models, on the other hand, are emaciated mannikens. Even their expressions are lifeless.

Somewhere, Miley Cyrus is thumbing through Vogue and seriously wishing Liebowitz had dressed her in that Ricci gown instead of that stupid bedsheet.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree with Kerry Noodle and Anon about the cover. Why do they do that weird floating giant head thing for the cover? It makes her look like an alien.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why do they do that weird floating giant head thing for the cover?

I have a better question...why does her foot look dirty in the Lanvin gown picture?

    ReplyDelete
  38. She looked fabulous. Especially in the McQueen.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The photos are stunning! That McQueen is breathtaking. I love his designs, he's truly a genius.

    ReplyDelete
  40. But the most stunning thing she's wearing?

    Chris. :-)

    Heh. My thought exactly.

    ReplyDelete
  41. And here's a reminder that even fabulous celebrities have their mere mortal moments.

Sarah Jessica Parker takes a tumble during Vogue photoshoot

Great post, boys, thank you so much. A drop of fabulosity a day is just what the doctor prescribed.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Fabulous spread. SP knows how to do it!

And Liebovitz is the best! One of the (few) reasons I would want to be famous would be to get photographed by her.

(sidebar) She once took pictures of some ballet dancers rehearsing in a studio and my Ed happened to be one of the dancers so we have two framed Liebovitz shots of him in our hallway.

I would love to lie on the stairs at the Met Opera House and take a photo like that!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh, Oh...I guess I am going to get some rotten tomatoes thrown at me, but I absolutely detested the Versace. It looked like a bunch of Ace bandages. Didn't like the Dolce, either. Chinchilla print rampant on a gown.
BUT...I LOVED the other pieces, especially the Marchesa (fleurchons included!).

But the photos in the article you linked to are obviously the stairs of the Opera House. She was shot lying down on the landing of those stairs. I think it's fairly likely that she was just being posed for the photo and the newpaper invented the fall story.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm sorry, but the pics kinda skeeve me out with all the weird public kissing and such. However, she does look quite fabulous in most of these.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Annie. Fucking. Leibovitz. Is. One. Incredible. Photographer.

Kudos for SJP for wearing the hell out of the clothes, but all the credit goes to Annie for composing and taking these amazing shots to create a complete and cohesive story!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ooooooh! More pics! Yessssss. And more Chris! This is one man who doesn't give a fig about fashion, but man, oh man, can he rock the designer menswear or what.

    Thanks, TLo!

  48. Amazing pictures! I'm rushing to get the magazine! My favorite dress: Narciso Rodriguez: fabulously sensual!
    Chris Noth looks so hot!

one detail though: the model on the runway for the Nina Ricci dress: creepy face!!! she looks straight out of a zombies' movie!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh em gee! I would kill for any of those beautiful dresses!
Okay... maybe not kill ... or maybe...
    ; )

    ReplyDelete
  50. I've loved her ever since "LA Story". She was a doll in that! Really special.

    -- desertwind

    PS - she looks fab

    ReplyDelete
  51. Whatever. She is fug, totally overrated and looks like a guy in drag. “She can wear closes” Yes, that acorn with feathers on top of her bowl was so amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Love the peacock dress. Hate the Versace -- what an icky color. If the Chanel suit is the same one I've seen pictures of elsewhere, the sleeves are snagged and look tres' refugee. Just don't like those criss-cross-back dresses ever, on general principles -- too rubik's cube-ish.

Is it just me, being in despair because I can never *see* the clothes in these fashion shoots? Why can't the editors give us the artistic shot of Big and Carrie curled around each other, and then a thumbnail to the side that shows the details of the garment?

Why do we never see dresses like the peacock on the Red Carpet? Is there some kind of hierarchy that the REALLY Good Clothes don't go there, and all we're seeing are B List designers at Oscar?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Bill said, I think it's fairly likely that she was just being posed for the photo and the newpaper invented the fall story.

That was my thought, particularly considering the columnist's careful use of weasel language such as "it appears ...", "... looked like ...", "... looks as if ..."

Take a look at the second photo in that article. If she had fallen down, would that guy on the left be calmly reading the newspaper?

    ReplyDelete
  54. P.S. I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere, but SJP was the guest on Bravo's "Inside the Actor's Studio" this past week. James Lipton mentioned Project Runway and congratulated SJP on her participation, and then they introduced Christian (who was in the audience) as being the Project Runway winner. He stood up and gave a little wave.

It was a very brief flash of him, and other than the black hat on the side of his head, I only got a brief impression of puffy sleeves. But it was good to see him there in the front row and being acknowledged.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yea, but the cover looked like she was having a bad face day. . .

    ReplyDelete
  56. Think of what SJP has to overcome to make this work..the models are tall stick figures and she is very petite and curvy! It is a gorgeous editorial shoot and the sexual tension between Sarah and Chris Noth is almost palpable...does it suddenly feel hot in here to anyone else? Grabbing her water bottle and guzzling furiously...

    ReplyDelete
  57. She's to old for this crap. And the shot where he's filming her lady bits is just gross. Ew.

    ReplyDelete
  58. love the post! thanks!

I did think she looked terrible on the cover though.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thank you for the comprehensive post!

It did take awhile to gather up the pictures. I appreciate your efforts!

Sarah looks better in the clothes because she has a little more meat on her body than most models do, although she's probably a 0,1, or 2.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Excuse me, 3:59 pm, if Sarah Jessica Parker is too old, then what does that make Madonna, who is five years older?

Sarah Jessica Parker is exactly the same age Marlene Dietrich was when she starred in "Kismet".

Katherine Hepburn was about the same age when she made "Adam's Rib"

    You are a fool.

    ReplyDelete
  61. And the shot where he's filming her lady bits is just gross. Ew.

I think someone needs a refresher course on where the lady bits are actually located. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Fantastic photos! She looks incredible in those dresses. Of course, it does help that the dresses are gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  63. She's gorgeous and talented. I have followed her career and admired her for a long time. Thank you for those beautiful pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Those shoes (last picture) are to die for. I love them!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Beautiful.
    Simply.
    Perfectly.
    Beautiful.

Thank you, SJP (& co), for inspiring me to move forward past my mother's death, lose 60 lbs, rediscover my love of myself & fashion. I wonder if these naysayers feel you're too old or ugly to do that.
    Stop drinking the hateraid, kids.
It doesn't get more bitter. You do.

    ReplyDelete
  66. beautiful!!
But SJP would look good in a garbage sack with Mr. Big around her waist!!!

She has some boobs (more than the runway models) and everything looks gorgeous on her.

    It gives me hope!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wow. I actually love ALL of those clothes. I WANT that peacock dress! And the satin-organza one. *dies of the beauty*

    ReplyDelete
  68. Those are absolutely stunning. Kudos to the photographer for really capturing some of the most amazing fashion photos I have EVER seen. Anyone know the name of the photographer? --Tricia

    ReplyDelete
  69. I looked at my VOGUE several times and am glad you're spotlighting those gorgeous photos.

How many more days until the fashion extravaganza film begins? Too many!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Annie Lebowicz took the pictures, of course, given the quality!

    ReplyDelete
  71. i looooooooooooooove me some Chris Noth! those pictures are gorgeous and she looks beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I really love the one at the Met. That dress is HOT.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I got the issue in the mail last week, I think, the photos are amazing and that Alexander McQueen dress is absolutely STUNNING!

    ReplyDelete
  74. It is such a beautiful spread. I love fashion. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I hate when the internet gods keep snacking on my comments. Gawww!

I'm not sure judging stock runway photos against an Annie Leibowitz FV shoot is a fair comparison. Annie and her photo stylists are fabulous at making everyone look fabulous. The clothes and SJP look lovely, but I think most of the credit belongs to Annie and her team.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Rowrrrrr.....

My fave is the Versace gown...to die for. Something for everyone.

Great shot and Annie gets to redeem herself (not to me) to the public basically.

As some others have said, the boucle suit is not my fave.

Chris Noth is the ultimate accessory, bags or no.

  77. F**king breathtaking. The clothes, the staging, amazing. Just ONE of those images would make it worth a staggering run to Safeway to grab a copy before--oh wait, I live in Fremont, where I'm the only one who reads Vogue instead of the Bat Boy tabloids and NASCAR Monthly.

Nothing bad to say, you're right, she does make the sh*t work better than the runway.

    Thanks ever so for posting

Nope. I'm think that the calculating Team Cyrus is happy with the publicity they got from the manufactured outrage they created over those pictures. It gave them a smokescreen, (at the expense of Annie Liebovitz), to bury the news of the multiple pictures of Miss Thang flashing her bra all over the internet.

  80. Those are very beautiful shots with very beautiful clothes. These are the photo's that always make me long to be wealthy and thin...LOL.

I LOVE all the looks in the spread.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Darlings, you are right. Bitch does indeed know how to wear clothes. That being said, I have never been a fan of SJP or SATC.

I loved Signe Chanel. The kooky old broad who makes the braid in her barn was probably my favorite person. I can see myself doing that in my dotage...and yes my pretty ponies, I actually do have a barn.

Thanks for the mention of our lil' PPS appearance on SJP's interview on "Inside the Actor's Studio." I watched a great deal of the program, but got a bit bored and changed the channel, so unfortunately I missed PPS. Le sigh.

Hopefully, I can catch a repeat of the epi some time this week during SJP's Global Celebration of SATC.

  87. It came in the mail last week. I went through every single page, devouring those photos of SJP.

I think her success is well deserved. She's not an overnight success, she's someone who's really worked her way up.

    Nice pairing, guys. Good job!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Why do half those runway models look like corpses??? I love SJP's style, but it doesn't take much to look better than a skinny, stone-faced, almost-dead chick, you know?

    ReplyDelete
  89. I hate that the only reason that she is popular is because people say that "she looks good in clothes". Guess what; EVERYBODY can wear clothes. Lots of people look much better then that dried up prune of a overly tanned wanna-be twenty year old.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Here's a true SJP story for you all: she came into the shop of a woman I know who makes fabulous custom leather goods. SJP was being fitted for a pair of sandals. My friend, who is a sweetly dotty septuagenarian, asked her, "So, what do you do?" SJP said, "I'm an actress." My friend still had no clue who she was. They chatted more and SJP mentioned that she would be away a lot over the summer. "Oh!" said my friend, "Are you doing summer stock?"
Would love to have seen SJP's face.
Apparently she is a total sweetheart.

  112. Seriously, Annie did SJP NO justice on the Vogue cover. She looks HORRENDOUS! Bad angle, bottom lip is severely askew, eyes are NOT level. C’mon Leibovitz! I love SJP, but the cover shot is UNDENIABLY unflattering.
