ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the Nica Ricci dress and it looks great on SJP. Accessories are also a hit. I don't like the heavy black eyeliner on her - it makes her eyes look very small. She's got a bit of a squint anyway, and this is a really harsh, unflattering look for her.

As for Pat Field...She can get away with dressing like that, in the same way the Betsey Johnson can, but my objection to it is that it gives stupider (clueless) women the license to think they can get away with dressing like that as well (and just anywhere). The result is that the innocent, unsuspecting public has the sight of wrinkly 60 year old bare legs inflicted upon us.
A case in point: This past weekend, I was minding my own business, sitting in front of the Metropolitain Museum of Art when what do I see lumbering along up 5th Ave, on the arm of a bad comb-over? A 60-something year old woman; badly bleached hair, tight, low-cut top, wrinkly cleavage on a platter, mini, mini skirt, Manolos and bare WRINKLY legs. She looked like Carmella Soprano on acid. At some point you need to have a little dignity, (or aesthetic sense) and cover that shit up.
And if they can't have any dignity, at least have some compassion for the general public, who may have just eaten, and do not need to see that.

ReplyDeleteI agree, SJP's dress may be the best one yet. I actually thought it made her look taller. I'm of two minds about Kristin. She looks better in the close ups than in that group pic. My only quibble with Cynthia's dress is that her neck is so long, wearing that low cut white dress somehow made her look like her chest had dropped to her stomach. But I don't know why it didn't seem like that with her other dresses. I would die for that swan neck.

Jennifer Hudson's hair and makeup are great! The outfit is cute, but she also looks close to slingin' cocktails at the Mos Eisley Cantina or working for Guinan at the Ten Forward on the USS Enterprise.
I saw them on tv, and SJP's dress looked much more blue and less metallic -- it looked good, from what I could see. I agree with Anon 10:37 about the heavy black eyeliner, though, which see seems to wear a lot, and I can't figure out why.

Donna Karan is not the best advertisement for her designs, I'm sorry to say. It used to be that her clothes were cut really well so that they fit and flattered many women. The pictures we've seen here make me wonder if that's still the case.

I agree, SJP's hair could have/should have been styled better. And she's way, way too petite for the Nina Ricci. In several of the pics she looks like she rolled around the floor in that drycleaning plastic they put over your clothes. It's a lotta look and a lotta metallic for a tiny gal.

ReplyDeleteSarah Jessica looks great. The best of the bunch by far. Again she looks even better in the dress than the runway model. I'm usually against long hair hanging down for an evening look (esp. if over 40), but that is kind of what she is known for so I'll give her a pass.

Why can't girlfriend work on getting a better fit around the bustline?
This has happened one too many times. Her boobage is almost pushed to the point of creating sharp folds and the looser flesh around the armpits (which unfortunately happens to all of us eventually) is squished, giving the illusion that she is sporting a pair of tanned labias.
For all the complaints we hear from the judges about fit (and hems!), surely the big-name designers of celebrity loan-wear are conscientious about custom-fit tailoring for their clients.

ReplyDeleteYuck, SJP as usual looks like a little girl playing dress up in Mommy's clothes...the gown is beautiful, but you guys are right; she can't pull it off with her height. And that underarm stuff is plain disturbing. I'll grant her the hairdo, though; I think it works on her.
ReplyDeleteI thought the other three looked much better in London....I don't get the couch upholstery look that Kirsten Davis is going for here, that trim on Kim's dress looks like an afterthought, and Cynthia's dress looks way too matronly...and did she mug a mother of the bride for those shoes???
As for Pat Fields and Donna Karen, all I can say is "physician, heal thyself." These women are supposed to be designers, and they look like this??? At least Donna's clothing line in general is tasteful...the same can't be said for Pat. I have no idea how that woman ever made a name for herself as a fashion icon/designer...her stuff always looks trashy.

No doubt Christian will steal some ideas from it, Kim will get creamed in some awful People Magazine In/Out thing and she'll never get props for actually *wearing* the more funky stuff that RP fans seem to gravitate to on the show but seem to run away when it's on an actual red carpet.
At least she takes real fashion chances while the other look like they're buying beauty.
Oh... speaking of People, Natalie Portman in the same Lanvin stripped gown we see SJP wearing in Vogue (tp://www.people.com/people/stylewatch/gallery/0,,20202521_14,00.html).
It looks underwhelming on her but I think it has more to do with the fact the dress looks angular because it's too short on her.
Wonder what NP would look like in a Westwood... .

TLo, I agree with you 100% this time. My guess on SJP's too tight bodice syndrome is that she's got a little more up top than the models for whom this dress was originally fitted and there just isn't room for the girls. She's not really a sample size in that respect so ends up with the equivalent of 'muffin top.' I'll refer to it as 'cupcake top' since we're talking boobs.
