DARLINGS! Our World is FALLING APART!!

First, Lifetime and now TMZ tells us THIS!

""Project Runway" diva judge Nina Garcia has been given her walking papers from her post at Elle magazine. You are out!

Up until today, Nina had been the Fashion Director at the women's monthly. Sources tell TMZ the environment at the New York offices of Elle is currently "nuts."

TMZ contacted reps at Lifetime -- "Project Runway's" new home -- and the Weinstein company to see if her new freelance status will affect her fate on the series, but have not heard back."

We'd been hearing rumors that she was facing the axe for a long time now and to be honest, one of our first thoughts upon hearing about the Lifetime deal was "Uh-oh. What does this mean for our chica?"

This blows! WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO US, POODLES? WHAT?!? They're tearing our little Runway world apart!! What's next? Tim gets caught with a hooker? Heidi gets fat?

  1. OHMYGOD!!!!! I don't know what to say!!! What's going to happen now?

  2. I'm not surprised. I heard from several people in the industry that she was only holding her position because of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  3. No, I love her. I love La Nina!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Lifetime will hire Tori "Mother may I sleep with danger" Spelling to take her place.

  5. ak!
Our happy home is being torn
apart! Who is going to get
    custody of the TLo?

  6. "Sources tell TMZ the environment at the New York offices of Elle is currently "nuts.""

I did time working at two other magazines owned by the same company (a number of years ago), and I can tell you that the environment there was always 'nuts'. I dreaded it when I had to go up to the Elle offices.

Well, don't look now, but the NYPost is about to report that Tim is actually Client #10.

  8. Oh NO!!!!!! Poor NINIGARCIAFASHIONDIRECTOROFELLEMAGAZINE!

    This is quite unfortunate.

  9. Darlings, what am I going to do without Nina? I love her!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. That is horrible news! So, are they going to pair with another magazine?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Man, this show is falling apart. What's next?

    ReplyDelete
  12. This is just too much, first Lifetime (I don't even fucking know where that channel is) and now Nina gets the boot. I'm starting to worry about the future of this show.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Holly cow, I did not see that coming at all. But it does raise some interesting questions, the most important being, of course, "WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING WITH THIS SHOW?"

    ReplyDelete
  14. There's also this:

"Elle is said to have parted company with its fashion director and “Project Runway” star and author Nina Garcia sources said late Friday.

Neither Garcia, Elle editor in chief Robbie Myers nor a spokeswoman for Elle could be reached for comment.

On Tuesday, Elle hosted a dinner with Moschino to celebrate Simon Doonan's new book, "Eccentric Glamour: Creating an Insanely More Fashionable You", but Garcia was notably absent.

Speculation about Garcia's departure has swirled for months, especially after the arrival of Joe Zee at the beginning of 2007 as creative director. Last spring, Garcia left the magazine on maternity leave, and began writing a monthly fashion column for Elle upon her return. Garcia was in the office on Friday morning, but by the afternoon, sources close to the building say Hachette’s Midtown offices were abuzz about the rumor.

The editor, who has already penned one book, “The Little Black Book of Style,” is a judge on the Bravo reality show “Project Runway”, which earlier this week switched to Lifetime Television under a more lucrative contract. NBC Universal, Bravo’s owner, has sued The Weinstein Co., producer of “Project Runway,” over the move."

If that's really true, who's going to be the next judge? Will Elle still sponsor PR? It would be nice to get Vogue, but they would never do it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. If it's true, I hopes she stays with Project Runway.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's too bad. I've always liked Nina on the show and TLo's Nina screen caps are a huge highlight. Assuming PR wants to keep the spread in Elle magazine prize and other related ties, I'm not sure how that works if Nina is still a judge but no longer associated with the magazine.

And although I won't boycott the show if it moves to Lifetime, I might have to reconsider if they replace La Chica with Anne Slowey. Gaaah. I don't even want to think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
    I LOVE Nina.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Um...I'm sorry. What...the fuck. No one's going to watch anymore!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh wait...she's no longer working at Elle! I think she may stay on the show though. I mean...she's La Nina.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'M PISSED!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, goddamn.

NinaGarciaNoLongerFashionDirectorofElleMagazine, here's hoping you land on your fashionable feet, excel in the "next phase of your career," and do so so fabulously that you can cock a snoot at dem what's done ya wrong.

    We're pulling for you, Nina!

    All the best,

    NDC

    ReplyDelete
  22. Noooo I love Nina! I don't want her to leave.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think it's time for new judges, if Nina goes, I hope Michael Kors and Heidi too get out, it was getting boring hearing the same lines over and over...

    ReplyDelete
  24. WHY?????????????????????????????? She has become an icon since the beginning of Project Runway! Elle can't have reaped anything but fashion goodness because of her. Right? Right?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good riddance! Now they have to get rid of Michael Kors!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. NOOOO! Who is going to say, "I'm worried about the heavy hand, _________!!"? [fill in the name of the contestant]

    ReplyDelete
  27. Frankly, I'd be entertained if Heidi got fat. Or if Tim was caught with a hooker. Or if MK became a mother of the bride... with a fabric flower.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love Nina on PR!!!!

But, the mag biz is tough. I recently realized that Nina must've been "the new editor" who came to Elle with her own staff and fired one of my friends! God, that was a hundred years ago (pre-pre-9/11) but still...

Maybe she's being replaced by that weepy Elle Canada editor who judged on PR Canada!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't know, I'm not that wigged by this whole thing. I mean, the press is talking like the move to Lifetime is a done deal, but I've heard that the lawyers are all just sharpening their swords and preparing for battle. And weren't the boards abuzz with folks calling for the judges to be replaced? I'm too lazy to go back and look, but I seem to recall a cacaphonic chorus castigating the PR judges.

Oh sorry, I was just channeling my inner Tim there for a moment. But still - I'm sure Nina will land on her feet, and life will go on for all involved. After all, what's the alternative?

    ReplyDelete
  31. PS - nice picture of Nina. Did Elle submit that one to the wire services this afternoon?

    ReplyDelete
  32. i hope nothing happens to Tim and Heidi. or i'll probly just die.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Is the World coming to an end?!? THe Lifetime crap was already devastating but this just kills me! If they replace her with that byotch Anne Slowley I will slit my wrists! What's Next?! Are they going to be replacing Michael Kors, Heidi, or even Tim Gunn? This is a sad day for PR....

    ReplyDelete
  34. Tim with a hooker? nah....
    He's too handsome...
    Heidi fat?
    She can't pull it off.
You have to be so pretty to pull off fat well.
Average girls have to be skinny because they are not hot enough to pull fat off...
    Love,
    Milla

    ReplyDelete
  35. heidi already has fat man legs... and is not funny, and not good.

project runway needs nina. there should be a female judge who knows what she is talking about and who can formulate her own opinions (for the most part).

  36. "TMZ contacted reps at Lifetime -- "Project Runway's" new home -- and the Weinstein company to see if her new freelance status will affect her fate on the series, but have not heard back."

    TMZ IS THE WEINSTEINS.
HARVEY WEINSTEIN HIMSELF DOES THE TMZ TV SHOW!!!

WHAT? THE FUCKTARD TRIED TO CONTACT HIMSELF AND HAS NOT HEARD BACK????

    LMAO!

Also i heard TWC had an ugly split with Disney over MIRAMAX....YET LIFETIME ENTERTAINMENT INC. IS 50% OWNED BY DISNEY???!!!

So they got back in bed with Disney by taking the show to Lifetime???
    I'M SO CONFUSED

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh p'tooie!

    What the hell next?!

    ReplyDelete
  38. "If that's really true, who's going to be the next judge? Will Elle still sponsor PR? It would be nice to get Vogue, but they would never do it."

Vogue would NEVER be associated with a show on the Lifetime network. You'll see Anna Wintour in Baby Phat before you see Vogue partner with that channel.

    ReplyDelete
  39. according to an article on BPR, elle is already on board for season 5 on Bravo.

that hasnt started filming yet, so if Nina is axed before season 5 even starts then its a strong bet she will not be on the panel as the rep from elle.

if that Ann(too much tootie)bitch takes her spot i really will stop watching.

    lifetime i can do...Ann I WILL NOT!

    ReplyDelete
  40. PR was a bore this season.

The way Bravo paraded Christian around after the win was shameless.

The judges are full of themselves and needed to go anyway.

Maybe all this is the final blow for PR or a new beginning that might keep it interesting.

    Change is good.

    ReplyDelete
  41. i know what your saying. escepcially after this project runway moving to lifetime. it will never be the same.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Change is not good, in fact, change is bad. I don't like any of this one bit.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It could also be that this was a planned exit. Maybe after the baby was born she didn't want to work as much and they couldn't "Make it Work". You never know.

La Nina has gotten so much fame from PR that if at all possible, she will be there.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I need La Nina : ( The show will not be the same without her.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Seriously, what's next?

    ReplyDelete
  46. OH NO...NOT ANNE SLOWEY!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Nina was way too stuck up & crabby. Micheal Kors is one of the bitchiest queens on TV, and Heidi acts like she the premier fashion expert, but she always looks like an orange, self-tanning mess. The only time she looks good to me is on the Victoria's Secret runway. The judging aspect of the show was never my favorite part. Nothing beats Tim Gunn in the Parson's work room :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Please tell me we're being Punk'd! PLEASE!

    ReplyDelete
  49. It's wrong...it's just WRONG

    ReplyDelete
  50. Completely agree with matchchatter...my dream is that they replace Heidi with Iman....ah well, I can dream...

    ReplyDelete
  51. According to an article in Advertising Age, Elle will be a sponsor of PR 5 which likely means that Nina is OUT as a judge.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Okay, so perhaps I'm just seeing the record levels of discrimination against pregnant women and mothers in the workplace (up 14% from 2006 to 2007, according to the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission) but I can't help but think that, if nothing else, this isn't exactly striking a positive note for women who want to be mothers and also business execs.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I just hope they don't replace Nina as a judge with that hideous Ann "Too Much Toootie" Slowey. Isn't she with Elle?

    ReplyDelete
  54. and somewhere - a shark has been jumped...

    ReplyDelete
  55. One day you're IN and the next day you're OUT! Auf wiedersehen!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Gorgeous Things said, I don't know, I'm not that wigged by this whole thing. . . And weren't the boards abuzz with folks calling for the judges to be replaced?

Thank you, Gorgeous. The article said Nina is leaving Elle, not PR. And, yeah, many people here were always saying Nina was so mean (frankly, I thought she was very sympathetic) -- and now it's tragic because she's "leaving" the show? Maybe she'll leave PR, but we don't know that yet.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh, this is terrible! Sure, the article doesn't explicitly say she'll be replaced on PR, but clearly that is part of the impetus of her being let-go.

Too bad b/c over the last year Nina, always entertaining, became my favorite judge. I felt she became better & better at giving feedback that was constructive yet still wonderfully La Nina.

    -- CAAF

    ReplyDelete
  58. Excuse me, but how does Nina having to lose her position ruin PR?

I mean, that doesn't mean she can't still be a judge! "They" are not ruining PR just because management at Elle lost their marbles.

It was that yellow dress that did it, wasn't it?!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Interesting story on PR sponsorships in Advertising Age here.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm not happy at all. She's an excellent judge. She's the only one who didn't take any crap from designers like Santino or Jeffrey.

    ReplyDelete
  61. "Meana Garzilla" can NOT leave! I'm ready to take to the streets and protest:

"NO JUSTICE - NO PEACE - NO JUSTICE - NO PEACE!!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  62. I just can't picture Elle wanting to be associated with Lifetime. They're probably going to get another publication.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hmmmm, It`s illeagal to get rid of somebody on maternity leave, so they wait awhile and then get rid of her? I would bring discrimination charges.

    Kzspot

    ReplyDelete
  64. Illegal, not illeagal, sorry.

    Kzspot

    ReplyDelete
  65. According to the initial articles about the show moving networks, Nina was already signed as a judge for S5, AND Elle was already committed as a sponsor for S5. This should get interesting fast...I hope they can co-exist, and Heidi will just introduce Nina differently each episode.

If Nina has to go, it won't be "Tootie" Slowey replacing her. Anne has landed her own TV gig standing behind Tyra Banks on a new "Devil Wears Prada"-style reality show where assistants vie for a job with an Elle fashion editor. If it even makes it on the air, it will be fun to watch Slowey try to get a word in edgewise with Tyra there...

    ReplyDelete
  66. I love both Nina Garcia and Michael Kors. Yeah, we know what they are going to say before they say it, but I usually agree with them. How will I live without hearing Tim urge:

    DON'T.
    BORE.
    NINA.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Just Nina? I wish they would get rid of MORE of them. Remember what Tim said before this season aired, about crack smoking judges? Well, he was right!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I will not miss her. I thought she never had anything interesting to say about the clothes. It was always the same four words to describe every damn outfit.

    ReplyDelete
  69. They need to get rid of Michael before they get rid of La Nina.

    ReplyDelete
  70. She's a tough judge. The show needs someone like her. Who cares if she's not working for Elle anymore? I could care less about that magazine. They need to keep her on the show.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Does that mean we're not going to have posts about NINAGARCIAFASHIONDIRECTOROFELLEMAGAZINE here on PRG? That's sucks!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. i dont like her.
i think shes overrated in her judgment.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Never really liked her. Good riddance!

    ReplyDelete
  74. For all the Nina haters: do you rather have someone else like Anne Slowey?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Interesting comment on TWoP from someone called "iworkatelle":

"It really depends on who's side your on. If you work at Elle in the fashion department, you usually have to pick a side. Nina or Anne (Slowey). Anne and Nina hate each other, try to get each other fired, and suck up BIG time to Gilles Bensimon to win. Gilles always picked Nina until JZee came on board, and now Anne has the upper hand.
Personally, I'm on Anne's side. Nina has done some really childish really MEAN things to Anne, that come into the way of just basic human decancy. [That of which I can't disclose, or else people will know who I am] REALLY just discusting things. (That's why she's known amongst other fashion editors as the 'snake'.
But things have died down between the pair recently. Since Nina has become a mother she's loosened up a little. But some of the things I've had to so for that woman..."

    ReplyDelete
  76. OK, I just heard from my friend that Nina was fired on Friday; she didn't quit, she was fired.

    ReplyDelete
  77. bettie said Interesting comment on TWoP from someone called "iworkatelle":

Considering the poor spelling and grammar in her post, I sure hope that "iworkatelle" isn't an editor!

    ReplyDelete
  78. She was probably fired because of our reaction to that ill-fitting yellow dress.

    We were much too harsh.

    Joking!

    ReplyDelete
  79. For Anonymous at 10:19 PM...Harvey Levin runs TMZ, not Weinstein.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Agreed with gorgeous things et al who aren't too bent out of shape about this news. Tis the nature of the biz and haven't we kavetched a LOT about the inconsistency of La Nina's opinions anyway? Nina may be fearless about expressing her opinions du jour, but I don't find her fashion intuition to be all that keen.

But Anne Slowey as a replacement? Don't even joke about that!

    ReplyDelete
  81. If it's like the rest of the print trade, major shakeups are happening everywhere. For instance, 47 writers & editors were given buyouts at just one newspaper this month. The Seattle paper has announced they're going to cut 200 jobs.

So it doesn't surprise me that the same is happening with magazines. The bummer is that as things go online, they're hiring some fairly lame people who can't string two words together to save their lives.

Bummer. She was great for Elle.
But nothing in journalism or publishing is permanent, except the reality that there are always good editors and writers hitting the streets!

Good luck Nina! You are great.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ha Ha. That is funny as hell. I knew that was coming, because she has no taste. Anyone who liked that dress of VictorYA that was bejeweled would have to be a fool or crazy.

A lot of the designs that she said she liked on PR were shiteous, so I am sure that is why she was axed. No one wants their fashion director to have bad taste.

You know that is it for her and project runway too, because what are they going to say, Nina Garcia, unemployed, middle-aged hack? No. She is gone.

    ReplyDelete

I don't even know who Ann Slowly is and frankly don't give a damn. She obviously isn't famous enough to be recognized, so why would they want her on the show?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Maybe if she would speed up, people might know who she is, ha ha.

    ReplyDelete
  87. She is rude and condescending, I am glad she is gone. I just hope she is replaced with a person in the fashion industry, not someone with tons of money and wears clothes, al la, Posh, SJP to name a few.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I don't think this is such a bad thing. There's been so much bull-shittery in the judging over the last season and a half. Maybe this is just what PR needs to kick some life back into the show. The designers won't know what to do to "impress" the judges.

I think it would be great top hav new judges every season...Keep Tim as mentor. Any clotheshanger with legs will do as hostess....

    ReplyDelete
  89. But who's going to bore Nina now? That was one of the best "threats" to whip a designer into form.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I think it's a good idea to bring in new judges. Nina was boring ME.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Oh, wow. I didn't see this coming, I thought Nina Garcia was doing well for Elle.

    ReplyDelete
  92. She's a well-known fashion editor now, she can get a job in any magazine. It's OUR loss, not hers.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I love Nina! She was the only judge that had enough guts to say what she wanted. I would be surprised if she didn't have already another position lined up somewhere. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

    ReplyDelete
  94. More gossip:

"Should Elle confirm that Garcia has exited the magazine, it would put to rest months of rumors and gossip over unrest at the fashion title that began when Zee arrived at the beginning of 2007 as creative director. It's no secret that there were ever-increasing tensions between Garcia and Zee--largely reflective of the old guard versus the new guard--where the former saw several colleagues from her heyday leave the company, including art Guillaume Bruneau and style director Isabel Dupré. Since then, Myers has also taken on a more active role on the fashion side and has made several significant changes to the structure of the magazine, including taking international creative director Gilles Bensimon's office and authorizing Carter Smith to replace Bensimon in shooting this and next month's covers."

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sorry, but if Nina is gone, I'm not watching it. The move to Lifetime is bad. But Nina is the only judge that had some credibility in the show, especially after a lackluster and boring 4th season. I'm really disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Screw Joe Zee!!! He's an asshole!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Nina was the only redeeming quality about season 4. Tim Gunn was practically sleep walking through each episode, Heidi tried too hard to BE Nina, Michael was boring, and the contestants were forgettable. PLEASE DONT LET IT BE TRUE THAT NINA IS GONE. Otherwise, I think Runway may bomb on season 5. We'll have to see. But right now, I'm on "pins and needles"

I do actually like Nina as a judge, and she's usually right, I just can't stand her hair.

  108. Most likely, Anna Wintour will pick her up to work on the 12th floor at Conde Nast, Vogue. Mark my words.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Nina was crying and all. I feel bad for her. She was always nice to me. This all started because it was between Anne Slowey and Nina Garcia to be a judge on PR, and Nina was the one chosen. Bitch Slowey was jealous of La Nina getting to be the judge and has been trying endlessly to get Nina fired.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I doubt Elle or Nina will be back for Season 6 or even Season 5. The producers of ANTM are working on a new show for CW where contestants compete for a job at Elle. Joe Zee and Anne Slowey will judge the contestants.

OH, YES!!!! The ab fab ultimate in debauched bitchery! I do wish she were real.

If Elle's got an ongoing contractual connection with PR into Lifetime's S6 and beyond (assuming that happens), I highly doubt Nina will be back as a PR judge. Ex-employees don't usually retain such high profile associations in my experience. Unless her contract with PR was not under the aegis of Elle.

I'm one of those who bitched about the inconsistent and illogical judging this season, hers included. New blood in the judging arena would be a good thing, IMO. I wish her well as it sucks to get fired as the loser of a power struggle, but I'd be fine with different judge on PR. MK can go, too.

  121. If she wants it, Nina can have a big career in TV and in print. She's lucky --she can broadcast in both Spanish and English. And I'm sure La Nina speaks a few other languages well.

  122. Showing up late but want to get my two cents worth in, anyway.

I'm getting depressed about PR's future. I don't know what else to say. Does PR get the NEW fashiondirectorofellemagazine? And just who the hell will that be, anyway?? What will I do without TLo's screencaps of Nina? See, now I'm worried about the fashiondirectorofellemagazine, which really just shouldn't be part of my life.

I can't stand that PR-related news for a while, it's nothing but bad. I, personally, bitches, need TLo to take time over at Tom and Lorenzo and do Musical Monday of "Top Hat", please.

    I need a drink.
