Kit & Chris

"Most women feel that they have to like save their special clothes for a special occasion. Well, fuck that!"

Well alright, then! That's a philosophy we can get behind. But before we get to that, how cute was Chris this week?

Although granted, much like Carmen's display, we couldn't actually see any tears. Still, though. Cute.

Cute's definitely the theme here, which is surprising, because we'd never have used that word to describe the aesthetic of either one of these designers. But cute this outfit definitely is.

Shoot us for using a Nina-ism, but she "really thought about it." It's not just a cute top. There's a blending of various design elements - the pockets, the neckline, the sleeves - that shows a real thoughtfulness and sense of style.

It's flattering; it fits her well, and we love the proportions on the sleeve and neckline.

Honestly, we're almost never a fan of tights - and we're not fans of them here - but if you're going to wear them, this is the perfect type of top for them. It's a young, classic look and the most appropriate one for the top.

There's just one bit that's like nails on a chalkboard to us.

The hat, kittens. We just can't get behind it. To be honest, it nearly ruins the look for us. There's nothing inherently wrong with a beret, but with her hair and that outfit, it comes off downright costume-y. Like they're shooting The Leslie Caron Story for Lifetime.

Still, it's a supercute look. The elements on the top override any of the other sort of flat styling choices.

  2. I LOVE this outfit. The top (i wish it had been a tad longer) to me looks like it would totally work for the bitten line and could be worn by all different shapes and sizes (not necessarily with leggings although many people do wear them who shouldn't (age, size, vaginal area exposure etc). And I LOVE Chris! and Kit too

  3. I loved this look! It was my favorite from this episode!

You are dead on about Leslie Caron though - I totally thought the same thing! Made me want to go watch An American in Paris or Lili!

  4. I am sooooo tired of Chris. You guys are totally right - did not see one "real" tear. Word is he is actually kind of a beeotch in real life.

  5. I love Chris.

The outfit is flattering on a model, but what "everyday woman" is going to look good in something that short? Not this one, I can tell you.

The Leslie Caron Story. You bitches rock!

No, he's not. He's a sweetheart and a complete darling to work with.

  7. I really liked this look-and I even liked the beret.

For more drama, however, Kit could have snatched Ricky's hat and made him cry....oh God, my claws are out!

  8. I loved this darling look, right down to the beret. I'm glad Kit and Chris are still solidly 'in', but I'm guessing that the outfit didn't make the judges' hearts beat a little faster because it was a little too safe.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Does anyone else think Kit slightly resembles Courtney Love on downers? Maybe it's the crispy white hair.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm glad T&L are covering these outfits, because this is really cute and well-conceived on second glance. Something about it (maybe the brown, brown and more brown) made it totally forgettable, though.

  11. I loved this look. Seemed Audrey Hepburn in 'Sabrina' to me, and the beret was a cute touch for the runway if not real life. I might have used a a different color for the tights though.

This seemed like it would fit in with Bitten (in a good way) and was at least as wearable as the muumuu SJP did pick out. Can everyone wear it? No, but I don't know what would look good in both a size 2 and 22. Different body types need different silhouettes. Isn't that what Tim's show is all about? It's great that SJP wants to design for all sizes and ages, but thinking that they can all wear the same outfit is just kidding yourself.

As for Chris, I like that big old cuddly crybaby. But coming to live in New York because of a TV show? Scary the power of television.

  12. BROWN tights with a BLACK sweater (unless the colors are off on my tv/computer), hmmm? My mom always told me I couldn't wear both colors at once, now, my mom isn't always right, but this particular adage has been confirmed by multiple outside sources. Have I been misinformed?

  13. I agree with Jay McCarroll's lovely bitchy take on this outfit. He loved it, but thought it would have worked better with a pencil skirt. Love the model -- though the hat does put it just this side of twee, it's near enough to be cute.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I liked this outfit quite a bit, too, and thought that with some minor adjustments (e.g. length) could be cute on more than just one or two body types.

What's up with the imaginary tears on this episode? Damn!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Loved this look - even the beret. As with all the designs this week (except Marion's), I tried to imagine this in different colors that I would wear. Knowing how limited their budget was, and the drabness of the Bitten color scheme, I wasn't surprised by the fuggly fabrics that came down the runway.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thanks for the sketches, T-Lo! It's impossible to see the details on this top. And - it's cute!

(BTW - Blogger finally let me register! It was easy-peasy and accepted fake email addres, too. Blogger used to hate Safari or my weird cobbled-together radio-relay broadband setup and wouldn't accept registration. So, yay!)

  17. i thought this look had something every female could wear. I am kinda surprised that it didn't take top two. I knew VictorYA was going to win, but I thought this was the next best thing. the top is adorable, and the leggings, are well, leggings... not for everyone but still nicely done. I think kit is someone to watch out for. and Chris... I tried to not like him before the show started (I had (still kinda have) a hard time getting over that ridiculous leopard print/green tie/ purple pant outfit in all the promos), but with his dress from last week to his great collaboration with Kit, plus his genuinely nice personality, He has one me over.

Now is only Rami wasn't such a douche bag and made an outfit I liked... OVERRATED!

    ReplyDelete
  18. The outfit looks like a beatnik costume with the beret. The top is adorable and wearable but it needs more color. All the wonderful details get lost on the black background.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Man, this is bizarre. The outfit as shown on the Bravo site is brown, and the model decidedly lighter-skinned... your screencaps are very different, and also my memory of the outfit is different. Were you watching some alternate show I wasn't privy to?

That having been said, I really do like this. The more I look at it, the more I think that I would buy that top in a hot minute. I'm a little fat for just-leggings on something that short, but it'd work well with some of the pant types I already own. And I'm not even a big fan of browns, though paired with black it'd be fine. If it were available in a dark or muted blue or green, or nearly any mid-to-dark shade of grey, I'd be especially keen on it and buy multiple copies.

This was, IMO, a better contender for the win than it got credit for.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Er, I meant to say the bravo site version was BLACK, not brown. I have no brain.

    ReplyDelete
  21. i love chris too. he was just to adorable talking about sjp!

outfit was very cute, i should be so young & thin to wear it!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I thought this outfit was adorable!

Unfortunately, it could not be worn by all sizes and shapes of women, at least not the leggings! Pair the sweater with a slim skirt or slacks, then yes. But as it was shown, it would not be appropriate for Bitten's "all things to all women" line.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Are you people blind???? this outfit is so boring and blah!!!!

its already in every store in the world!!!! ooohh crop tights and a little sweater....ANY h&m forever 21 strawberry all the way to macys bloomies saks will have this exact look....there is nothing original.

    i was bored.

the ony thing i liked was the beret!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Chris was truly verklempt (to use a Tim-ism) when he saw SJP. I thought his reaction was very sincere and endearing. The outfit was cute, but not for all silhouettes, but the model looked great (which couldn't be said for the all the other outfits...

    ReplyDelete
  25. BWAH! The Leslie Caron Story! As you so often do, you have captured the problem exactly.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I loved the top on this, and would buy it.

    As for Chris: LOVE him!

But when he first said that SATC made him want to move to NYC I thought, how dumb is that? Then I remembered what made me first want to move to NYC: That Girl! I wanted to be Ann Marie.

Of course I was just 8 at the time, and couldn't figure out how to get here.

I feel sorry for anyone who comes here thinking it'll be like SATC (and I do see them, all the time, standing outside the Magnolia Bakery). The biggest shock would be the realization that there's no way in hell those characters could have ever afforded those apartments unless they were turning tricks on the side.

  27. I thought the top was cute...the leggings, not so much. Leggings remind me of the early/mid-90s for me....we wore leggings with these ENORMOUS sweatshirts or huge wool sweaters with birkenstock clogs. Hot, right?

I love Chris...I might have teared up a little bit if SJP walked into my vicinity, too.

Ooooooh....would you guys give us some screenshots of the designers as they were getting chosen/not chosen? Their faces were priceless.

    Great for Bitten.
    Love for Chris.
    None for Kit.

  29. I liked it, but I thought exactly the same thing about the beret. I love Chris. Kit? Not so much, at least not yet.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Simple and sophisticated. I loved it!
    Chris is ADORABLE!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Loved this outfit the most, though I understand now why it didn't fit the "Bitten Aesthetic" exactly. But agree with everyone who agreed with Jay that a pencil skirt would have been perrrrfect. and I didn't mind the beret because it so perfectly accented the model's gamine look. and I lurve Chris and I didn't mind Kit, but I don't think she's long for this PR world. Just a hunch.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I loved the look, especially the top, but brown leggings and a sweater on a model whose thighs are a bit too thick? Not so sure. I know that 90% of real women have soft thighs, but runway models are supposed to be a bit skinnier than that, don't you think?
OK, I can hear the roar of a dangerous crowd coming my way.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I thought this outfit fit best with the nasty drab Bitten colors. I also thought it would look better with a skirt, but every designer who sketched a skirt got tossed into the Helper pile. Apparently the line does not need skirts.

I liked the top, but it will be a cold day in Hell before I wear leggings. Not because I'm overweight, but because I'm very athletic; leggings look find on women with more bone than muscle. I've got a lot of muscle (thanks, retired pro athlete dad) and have a hard time finding flattering clothes. I've tried on leggings and have found them frightening.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wouldn't it be nice in challenges where they include in the challenge "it must fit women of all sizes" if the designers were given extra time and a size 16 model to go along with the size 0 model and they had to make the same outfit for both?

BTW, LOVE this top, I think it would also be adorable in black-n-white.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anon 5:15 - Check out Episode 8 of project Runway Canada - they had to design swimsuits for small models and plus size models. It looks like a great challenge from the recap and the photos (can't get the video to work and can't find it on youtube yet). http://www.slice.ca/shows/projectrunwaycanada .

  36. Boys, no! Why has it become acceptable and even fashion-forward to wear tights instead of pants. Tights are not an acceptable substitute for pants! I see women walk down the street in things I wouldn't wear to the gym. Pants are important! Sorry for the pants rant, but I feel very strongly about this.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have to say I'm a card carrying member of the anti-tights club.

My Rule: You should not be walking around in tights unless you are performing in Cirque du Soleil.

    --Gotham Tomato

  38. I liked the hat. I agree it was teetering on costumey, but you have to give credit to a look that can make a beret work.

I think the outfit is cute (also hate tights) and agree with others who said the top needed to be a smidge longer.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have no problems with tight, you just have to have the right body for it, like anything else in terms of the right clothing.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I loved the sketch and was underwhelmed by the final product. I thought there was going to be something other than black. A plaid strip on the bottom (I think that's what is in the sketch) would've been killer.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Amazingly underwhelmed.

Sure, it fits the Bitten line, but come on. This is BORING. You could go into Wet Seal and buy this crap in nicer colors.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I notice a lot of people commenting on how unflattering this outfit would be no a lot of body types, but really, except for maybe Ricky and Jack's dress, I think all of these outfits would look terrible on a non-model body. The producers really dropped the ball here; if making sure an outfit could suit a variety of shpaes and sizes was key, then they should have been judged on that. Maybe, as 5:15 Anony says, by having two different models.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The beret definitely makes it too Leslie Caron. My heart sunk when they plopped it on their model. However, the tights are not flattering to larger sizes. Wasn't the dictate that the garment whould be two piece and for older, younger, and different sized women?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have to say that everyone is getting along so well now. I can't wait to see how it's going to degrade into the tears and vituperation of the teasers they've been flogging us with for two weeks now.

btw, I can't even count how many 30+ femme lesbians I know who are in love with Chris and want to adopt him as their very specialest gay boyfriend.

and, I have to say I'm really digging Kit's hard-at-work look. especially the hoodie and ponytail look. she look so serious!

Hat didn't bother me so much.

    ReplyDelete
  48. j., i know, right?

  49. YES! YES! YES!
this was the one look that went down this episode's runway that I thought looked GOOD!

And Kit & Chris are (so far, from bios and designs shown on the show) my favorites.

  50. I am adoring Chris up to this point. He just can't get any cuter, so my expectations are dropping.

As for kit, I think she may be a comer.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Being familiar with Bitten, I think the top here looks the most like something one would find in the collection. It's super cute, and could probably be pulled off by many people with a good pair of jeans.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I love Gotham tomatoes too!
Ps what is with the negative energy?

    ReplyDelete
  57. i was shocked at how much i liked this one. for me, it was the best of the bunch. and chris is so sweet and adorable. he needs a win.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree with Jen. In fact, I cannot bear to call those things that the model is wearing "tights". Tights go UNDER things. They should not be allowed to stand on their own.

I will therefore call these tights "leggings."

    No, that didn't really help.

The sweater is cuter than I remember from the episode, though. But I agree with one of the Ks that the details really get lost in the dark fabric. I didn't like the color combination in general. Depressing.

But the model is rather attractive, which is refreshing.

(Gotham Tomato: Tell me what the deal is with Magnolia Bakery. Why do all the tourists end up there? There's no way their cupcakes are that good.)

    ReplyDelete
  59. We forgot to mention how crap the Bitten line is. So this, looking like a big turd, should fit right in. Leggings! I'm surprised Tim didn't fall over dead from horror right then and there. But love Chris and Kit.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Sorry, this outfit reminded me of what the modern mime is wearing. It didn't do a thing for me.

    ReplyDelete
  61. LOVE Chris! I really hope he wins. But he's my clear favorite this season.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Tights and tops that don't hit mid thigh....too much information.

At least in the late 60's we wore a micro-mini skirt over our tights and left a little bit to the imagination.

    ReplyDelete
  63. That first picture of Kit is just Alyson Hannigan (One time, at band camp..) selling Swiss Miss instant cocoa. Or is it just me...

    ReplyDelete
  64. oh, and I thought they had the best outfit.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Mais oui, the beret has to go. The rest of the outfit, however, is darling. I wasn't impressed when I first saw it on the runway, but to steal one of Heidi's lines: "It's growing on me."

Tights are a sticky subject (no pun intended). If you're toned enough and the tights are opaque, then they're usually cute. Unfortunately, I'm usually walking behind the women who are wearing them and doing a wonderful impersonation of jiggly custard trapped in mesh. I'm not brave enough to wear them!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Love Chris! I saw in some PR poll that he was the most popular amongst voters.

    ReplyDelete
  67. "thyrza said: Gotham Tomato: Tell me what the deal is with Magnolia Bakery. Why do all the tourists end up there? There's no way their cupcakes are that good."

  69. ENOUGH WITH THE GODDAMN LEGGINGS!

seriously, i am sick and fucking tired of seeing saddlebags and cameltoe on every chunky redneck single mother with a fricking macy's card! i loved the top and thought it would have been great with jeans and boots or really fun and sassy with a slim skirt and ballet flats and a big bag.

with leggings, however, it was "too much tootie."

    ReplyDelete
  70. The hat wasn't great, I'll definitely agree. But think about it: was it as bad as Vincent's bowl and strings from last year??

    ReplyDelete
  71. tights are not pants!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I really liked this outfit, even with the Leslie Caron beret, but... part of the brief was to make clothes for women of all sizes. I'm sorry, but there is NO WAY any woman over a size 8 (and I may be pushing it a bit) is going to look good in that thing.

Which is probably why SJP didn't pick it.
