On the...uh...Off-White Carpet with the Judges.

Darlings, New York Mag has even more pictures from the CFDA event, and we figured we'd rip on every PR guest judge we could find.

Zac Posen:

No. Absolutely not. First off, it looks like it's at least one size too small. Secondly, it looks like an upholstered couch - in 1960.

Betsey Johnson:

We can't believe we're saying this, but she looks FABULOUS. Killer shoes, girl! Not so much on the hair, but come on, she's Betsey Johnson.

Catherine Malandrino:

Fabuleuse! Gorgeous color. Just one thing: Is she pregnant? Because if she's not, then we have quibbles with the proportions on this thing.

Fern Mallis:

Fern darling, you're fabulous, but you forgot the primary rule: Dress for your body type. A size zero might be able to pull this off, but honey, you're no size zero.

Vera Wang:

God, are you even TRYING? She looks like she works at a daycare center.

  1. Wow. If you had given me a list of those names and asked me to choose which one would look the best, I would not have said Betsey Johnson. But she rocks that dress and those shoes!!!

    You go, girl.

  2. ZAC??? What happened to you? He's so adorable but a little pudge does not look good on him. Oh man...makes me wanna go to the gym...not really!!

  4. I love the fact that you can see the big taped "X" where they are supposed to stand for photo ops.

I thought Betsey Johnson looked fab too. And that does look like Catherine Malandrino is hiding a bump under those pleats.

  5. Zac is adorable but what was he thinking? Betsey looks gorgeous...LOVE her shoes. Vera is always dressed like shit. Fern...oh, dear! Catherine...J'adore! I love the color of her dress.

  6. Aww, I love Betsey. I think she's cool and her clothes are fab.

  7. Zac's suit might be awful, but I like his date's outfit; it's something I could actually wear.

  8. I have always adored Betsey Johnson. In the seventies she designed a line of patterns for teen sewers. Can't remember if it was McCalls or Simplicity. I made a kickin' prom dress my senior year. I love this year's line. A little more conservative but very fresh!

  9. When was Betsey JOhnson a judge? Did I miss that? (I've only season parts of season 1 so if that's when she was on, I probably missed it)

  11. I think Fern Mallis' frock is covering a mulitude of sins. What's that? Can't cover sins w/ more sin?
    Oops!

  12. Tall photographer + small subjects = bad, unflattering camera angle...the models and actresses typically look better because they know how to pose, too.
Funny thing about Fern is that she looks as though she feels really good in the dress.

I remember those patterns. I think the line was called "Alley Cat".

I think Fern looks great in white. She looks younger than when she judged the collections just last September (maybe partly because she's not wearing half specs).

  14. I love Betsey Johnson! I remember when Style channel showed her penthouse. It was color color color... clothes hanging as part of the decoration. It was really insane and fabulous at the same time. She also has a mini shoe collection. I love her!!

  15. I will never forget when Catherine Malandrino aufed Angela in Pareeh. One of the top-10 PR moments. She looks amazing in this picture...makeup, hair, smile, dress...everything! I want to be her when I grow up.

  17. It's all about Betsey Johnson and those shoes.

  18. OMG!!! I clicked over to NY Mag, and the picture that headed the article had Oscar de la Renta looking twice as orange as the Duchess!!!!

  19. Love love love Betsey Johnson. She's always so cute.

Vera, on the other hand. She's looking old and tired. I've lost so much respect for her since she's started designing mattresses

    and Kohl's

and getting rid of her fine jewelry

  20. Hey, I work in a daycare center and we would never let anyone come to work looking like THAT. Ick. Although the kids would love it for dress-up, and it could double as a nice burp rag if you turned it inside-out. (Don't want to scratch the babies with all that scratchy embellishment.)

  21. Wow, everyone looked terrible except Crazy Betsey! I actually think Fern did not look too bad, and I admire her moxie for wearing it.

  22. You two bitches are bitches. I love it. ♥♥♥

  23. Vera...it really is ok to use makeup.

  24. Fern omg.

It looks like they cut a hole in the middle of a tarp and tied it down on her.

Betsey looks friggin amazing though. I would love to be in those shoes. Literally.

  25. I agree. Really, Vera, a little blush and shadow wouldn't kill you.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sorry...but I don't have a problem at all with Fern's dress. Simple, elegant and hides what she needs to hide.

  27. Add me to the list that says Fern looked good. As "snf in va" nailed it, she does look as if she feels good in that dress.

Vera confounds me with the aversion to makeup. Always has, always will. I honestly think that most women would benefit from a more natural look, but she just never looks fresh, only tired.

Yeah, and Betsey looking pulled together and classy...go figure!

  28. I'm in the pro-Fern group ... and she has such a gosh-darn-cute look on her face. White is really nice on her.

And Betsey's shoes: LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. She's proof that just because you're over 20 it doesn't mean you have to roll over and play frumpy (hello, Vera?).

  29. Ok, add me to the "Fern can wear a garbage bag if she looks that confident and happy" category.

Am I alone in being really "eeeh" on Ms. Catherine M? I'm pregnant, and I wouldn't be caught dead in head to toe pleats, unless I feel like looking like an overripe eggplant, that is. Thought the styling was pretty blah there, too. Easy to judge the judgemental, I guess.

Don't dig Betsy Johson, but damn, that was a great dress.

  30. Oops, I lied. I did once wear waist to toe pleats - In high school. For Fall formal. In baby blue. In 1981.

Looked like hell in it then...

  31. Count me in on the pro-Fern camp. You couldn't pay me to wear all-white, but she looks like she's having fun and carries the look.

And I stand with Vera Wang on the no-makup line. I loathe wearing makeup. I don't do it well (picture a cross between a clown and a hooker), and even when someone else does it for me, it's so damned uncomfortable. And such a waste of time, IMO. (I could use the time to visit PRG, read a book, work on my cookbook, etc.) But I doubt Maybelline's stock will plummet because of me. :-D

  32. Well, call me a cynic, but it seems to me Zac Posen's date was just one more contrasting accessory chosen - solely, in my opinion, to further reflect upon his own magnificence. Her pale skin and red hair only throws all of his dark good looks into high(er) relief. As an underlying motivation this is nothing new, but, just a little too calculated for my taste.

The (possibly) pregnant lady looks lovely and happy, as does Betsey Johnson. I like Fern Mallis and hooray to her for accentuating what she felt was her best attribute - her gams.

    The end.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Isn't Zac's date Karen Elson AKA Mrs. Jack White? Who IS actually pregnant?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thank you, thank you, thank you for allowing me to feel slightly superior.

Do none of these designers have mirrors?

    ReplyDelete
  35. :sheepish:

I kinda liked what Vera was wearing. I've always taken her personal clothing choices as more of a 'I don't give a shit anymore because I already have mine ...' Christ, if I were her, I'd show up in jeans and a t-shirt with flip flops. Y'know?

  36. YOU MUST DO THIS MUCH NEEDED FASHION ANALYSIS MUCH MORE OFTEN YOU WOULD BE PROVIDING A PUBLIC SERVICE!!!!!!!!!

  37. There's this commercial w/ Vera Wang about her life with her computer....and it doesn't show her entire face. Just a shot of the below the eyes down.

Which gives you a perfect view of the bags under her eyes and the rest of her non-made-up face. Really inspires me to run off and buy a computer, ya know what I mean? Vera, if you're going to sell a product, for God's sake, look a bit better will ya?
