Great interview. Pandora was my favorite this season, and I was sad to see her go. I have to agree about the cracktastic judging and Santino's ridiculous prejudice against Ms. Boxx.
I just love the humor and would pay good money to see Pandora perform.
Thank you so much for this, boys! I've been waiting for this all week since I saw on your Twitter that you were interviewing her, and it didn't disappoint.
Hopefully you fellas won't mind, but I'm going to be a bit shameless and encourage everyone to vote for Pandora for Miss Congeniality on the official Logo site here:
Thanks for the fabulous interview TLo! I hope Ms. Boxx has lots of success and gets to do her own show. Maybe co-starring Jujubee? A match made in heaven.
You know, I loved her $1.98 Beauty Pageant approach to runway and can't wait to see where she pops up next!~Gary p.s. No dish on Tyra? Pandy's comments must have been scaaaaathing! bahaha.
Miss Boxx, you are everything a drag queen should be, mainly Magical! Just about everyone wear the clothes and the make-up to look like a drag queen. But they don't have the fire, the glittering magic, of a true queen. It's mesmerizing, and you got it, girl.
Glad to hear you are writing. Since you speak so well, I know there is a marvelous, witty voice in there.
Good luck! Can't wait to see what you do in the future.
Michael and Pandora have this rare quality to make you smile (and sometimes howl with laughter of course) whatever they do. Even when s/he was sulking over the mean judges => big huge fat smile on my face. I want to be a gay man, so I can fall in love with Michael, I want to be a straight man or a lesbian so I can fall in love with Pandora. As it is all I can do is check if one is allowed to adopt someone who is older than oneself ;-)
On a more serious note: next to seeing her with her own show of course - I would love to see her as the host of a show about drag. Tracking down fellow contestants and see what they do in their real drag life for example. That is something that's lacking in RuPaul's drag race. On project runway you get to see the portfolio of every contestant. But you didn't get to see what the drag queens did to qualify for RPDR. At least not on tv (?!)
I think Pandora would be perfect for something like that - she has the wit and the integrity for something like that and with the exception of Tyra (she IS holding a grudge against her, isn't she? ) she seemed to be friendly with everyone.
Ah well, actually - I won't complain as long as this isn't the last I've seen of her ;-)
Love Pandora! I hope that upcoming project she can't talk about yet turns out to be her own show on Logo.
I think she makes a good point about the judges being too impressed by the runway portion. I've known many drag queens who can nail the look, but if you don't have comedy timing and other talents, you're just a pretty boy in a dress.
Whoa! I just had a dream last night that Pandora was the star of a campy soap opera (damn hulu for making me stay up all night watching Soapdish :-), and I then I woke up and here was an interview with the real deal! Now I will go off and pretend that she had the Elizabeth Shue role in that film.
MrsPsmith said... I want to be a gay man, so I can fall in love with Michael, I want to be a straight man or a lesbian so I can fall in love with Pandora. As it is all I can do is check if one is allowed to adopt someone who is older than oneself ;-)
OK- here's my TV pitch: Pandora Boxx stars in a sitcom on Logo called "Jack in the Boxx," about a boy named Jack coming into her own as a drag queen. Yay!
Thank you so much for this interview. I'm glad that Pandora realizes how many people loved her performances and hated the cracktastic judging that got her axed.
Hey, she's from my hometown! I didn't know that. Of course, I also wasn't really aware that we had an actual drag scene here in boring Rochester, but what do I know? Philip Seymour Hoffman and Taye Diggs are from here too. And Robert Forster and Renee Fleming. Anyway, Pandora seems like a sweetheart - funny and talented. I wish her all the best.
Great interview. I hope we see more of her & I hope Ru doesn't make the mistake of letting Santino being the ruling voice each season or only going for the 'real' looking queens each season. We want to see a successful Mystique/Porkchop/Pandora/Nina Flowers win.
I had emailed Logo about giving Pandora her own show and their email response included a mention that she would be one of the queens appearing in RuPaul's Drag U in July. Here is the show description from Logo's Press Release they issued back in January about it (from futoncritic.com)
"RuPaul's Drag U" is a series where everyday women compete in a series of challenges to unleash their inner diva. Hosted by RuPaul and a team of drag queen instructors, "Drag U" is a spin-off of the breakout hit series "RuPaul's Drag Race."
Produced by World of Wonder which has created a number of hit series including "Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood," "Million Dollar Listing," "Fantasia For Real" (premiering on VH1 in January), and "RuPaul's Drag Race."
LOVED THAT INTERVIEW! I love that Jujubee, Tatiana, and Pandora are friends. I am ECSTATIC to know they ARE doing a reunion special (ooooooh watch out Santino!).
I had emailed Logo about giving Pandora her own show and their email response included a mention that she would be one of the queens appearing in RuPaul's Drag U in July.
LOVE HER LOVE HER LOVE HER. I wrote her an email about a week ago or so and she told me to watch out for this interview, so I've been DYING to read this for days!
Man, I hope doors open up for her because she is entertainment gold.
Someone needs to help me release my inner drag queen. When I was a little girl, I loved the sparkly Super-Femme stuff. Somewhere along the way I lost it.
Robert said.... I think she makes a good point about the judges being too impressed by the runway portion. I've known many drag queens who can nail the look, but if you don't have comedy timing and other talents, you're just a pretty boy in a dress.
Really? Most drag queens don't make their living from comedy, but from show biz, singing, and club performances. Not to imply there is no place for comedy drag out dare, but just saying...
Pandora exudes the best quality in anyone, humanity, and perfectly shows why discrimination is inhumane, people ignoring this quality in others and themselves. Pandora breaks down these barriers differently to protests or aggression, but with fantastic humour and love, the strongest weapons of all :] Thankyou for sharing your energy and exuberance with the world so that my generation may be less discriminated than yours~ Your style of drag will do more wonders for drags and any other minority's acceptability than any pouting skinny bitch will <3 Don't let the santino's of the world get you down cause not everyone is as wonderful as you. If you read this, I'm a 20 y/o in Australia- just to show how far you've been heard across the world C: I watched you on youtube before the competition and look forward to seeing more of your vids :]
She was my fave, and I thank you two for the interview. I was interested to read that the contestants are, indeed, kept off-balance about what will be asked of them and generally herded about - it often comes across that way on air.
So glad to see this interview up! I was also pulling for a Pandora Boxx win and thought she was robbed in the last challenge. But I think I enjoyed watching Michael out of drag just as much as I enjoyed his alter ego. He seems like a wonderful guy and is a very talented performer. Thanks for getting the scoop, TLo!
I was upset about Pandora's elimination but then I realized that she's going to have the most impressive career after this season no matter what. RuPaul's drag race is about finding spokespeople for Absolut. Pandora is going to be FAMOUS. And I think Ru secretly loved her the most.
Pandora-- you are a STAR girl! even though she didn't win I am certain that only bigger and better things will come her way. I have to look into that Youtube Show she has!
Totally OT but I can't wait to see the reunion show b/c I know bitches will be after Raven for being so two-faced. I was just as surprised as Pandy was though i know she isn't the only one who feels sort of hoodwinked.
RuPaul is still very much obsessed with drag ball culture as they do it in uptown NYC, and one of the more prevalent parts of a drag ball is the emphasis on "realness." Not many of the contestants in the realness categories perform except in the runway context at a drag ball.
I don't think Ru made it clear that he's emulating the realness element of the competition with that runway portion. It would make more sense that way if he's going to retain it. Pandora is right in looking at it from his perspective, because I suspect that the pageant/ball aspect wasn't emphasized to the contestants (or the audience, really).

I'm not sure what the prize is (probably a $10 Popeye's gift card, knowing the production values of this show), but Pandora deserves it!

LOVE HER!!!!
4/10/10, 1:20 PM
Best way to kick off a Saturday! Thanks -- she's fantastic, and so was the interview. I really hope that project she can't talk about is a t.v. show.

But Pandora is all her own, and so sexy and cute and I could go on - simply the best. LOVE.

Pandora is lovely, inside and out! So glad there are projects for her! I can't wait to see her perform again.
And, off the top of my head, the only drag queens I can name are the funny ones.
4/11/10, 9:11 PM

Luv, luv, LUV HUH!!
I was so, so hoping Pandora would win. Sigh. Great interview though guys. Just what I needed to read after a stressful week!
BTW, not for nuthin' but Miss Pandora needs to ad a Patti Lupone impression to her crayon boxx because she looks too much like her not too.
