Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel in Marie Claire

Bitches got a movie to sell.

Marie Claire dabbles in fiction
:

"Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel bonded while filming Valentine's Day and have been friends ever since. On a rare girls' night out, the stars dish about the difficulties of (usually) being the only woman on set, the pros and cons of having a famous significant other, and whether or not either of them really "has it all."

Look, Marie Claire, they've got a movie to sell and you've got some dresses to move, so we really don't have to go along with the "two new best friends on a 'rare' girls' night out" plotline. You know why it's rare? Because they're not friends! It's okay. Just show us the dresses and we'll continue believing the far more entertaining soap opera in our head where all movie stars are vicious, grasping schemers who would sell their children for a cover or a nomination. It's more fun that way.

The epitome of the movie star editorial. Lots of looking into the camera and showing every tooth. Still, the dresses are all cute, if a little basic. We have to hand it to Victoria Beckham. Her shit's all over the place lately. And it's cute shit, too.

I love that lavender Marchesa. The photo shoot? Eh.

The Mizrahi looks like a used Kleenex. Ew.

The girls? Pretty I guess. Not a spread to set the world on fire, that's for sure.

Did Nina style this? Rachel Zoe?

I wanna snark that it is the bland leading the bland, but it's cute ed and they are cute, especially Jennifer Garner.

They are just not in the same picture in that second one. Also, what did Jessica Biehl do to her face? She looks like she cross-bred with Amanda Peet.

This is very bland and boring, the only interesting about either of them is Jessica Biel's ass.

These two are idiots, but the lavender marchesa is nice.

and, good on posh for becoming so ubiquitous.

Was the Big Gulp really necessary?

Huh. The Olsen twins clean up nice.

Seriously, that contrived way they're hanging on each other in nearly every photo screams: Yes! We're best friends! Look at us, being all close and smooshing our faces together and making faces at the camera with our big sunglasses because we're just goofy like that! Best friends! Yay!

Love the Posh Spice stuff. Her clothes are very wearable for a certain type figure whether you are 25 or 50. Just wish I could afford them new as they have not hit yet the consignment shops.

"PHOTO SHOOT" be dammed! That model should be shot for tattooing her ankles. If I were a designer I'd never hire her. Her only job is to highlight the clothing not showcase her own stupidity.

I did not like any of the Marchesa dresses and I am usually a sucker for them. VB's dresses were simple but elegant. Maybe the photo shoot was boring because the girls are too similar?
I was impressed by Victoria Beckham in her stint as American Idol audition judge. She was kind but firm. Last night an overbronzed blonde told VB that she was her fashion idol. When Simon asked VB if she liked what the contestant was wearing (horrible short metallic silver dress), she replied," It's not in my particular style." After they nixed her, VB went over and gave her a hug.

There isn't a stylist in Hollywood that owns a brush anymore, is there.

Those two have ZERO chemistry. I so don't buy the friends thing.
The pictures are just OK. The firts Marchesa is really pretty and that's about it.
JBiel has done too much to her face. Her nose is too stiff and angular, her upper lip looks like she hit herself in teh morning and HELLO CHEEKBONES! They look like rocks. When are they going to realize that the appeal is in the fact that you were BORN cute above average, so we can envy you?

Those are stockings painted to look like tattoos. Several models in the collection wore similar stockings.

Neither one of these gals has ever done anything for me! They are about as blah as instant vanilla pudding. ho hum.

The purple dress is pretty - hate the blue and yellow strapless. ho hum!

Cute dresses.
Cute ladies.

TERRIBLE photo spread.

I'm utterly clueless as to which person is which - so sue me, I'm not a kid any more - but the apparently dirty soles of the feet in the sound stage shot don't enhance the dress she's wearing. And that shot doesn't do the dress any favors, either.

Talk about a lack of chemistry.... They are standing and posing next to each other, but the distance seems to be a chasm.

All the best,

NDC

I love the dresses : )

I find myself really digging the Victoria Beckham designs...whoda' thunk it?

This. Also, tattoos don't necessarily connote stupidity. Consider them a styling option -- even a tramp stamp could highlight a design element if your garment has a low open back.

Gotta hand it to VB, I think her dresses are nice and she's been pretty successful in getting them on the backs of the right people.
Photo shoot is meh, purple dress is pretty.

I'm not really buying the bff story either. JG was recently interviewed at a red carpet event (which one, I cannot recall) and was asked about her new bff. She was visibly uncomfortable talking about it and even seemed somewhat embarrassed. Anyway, I
found the whole editorial pretty meh, but loved the lavendar Marchesa.

I do love the Marchesa. They're not BFFs by a long shot, but the sunglasses picture is cute. I really want JG to gain back about ten pounds though. Girlfriend is thin.

Ha! I SO agree. I am over the messy hair.

But--lookit 'em. They are so cute, those two girls. All smiley and stuff. Wouldn't you love a BFF who is your doppelganger and you could have lunch together and make funny faces with sunglasses and all? Come on...!

Actually--I agree with everyone. They look stiff together and some of the dresses are pretty but...whatever.

I have been tryingt to get one of those VictoriaBeckham dresses and they're sold out all over the place... they sold out in seconds, amazing. They both look great in them.

I don't think the clothes are too simple... if anything, I find Marchesa's stuff generally over adorned. Still, that pink thing looks good.

These two actresses are entirely bland. Time to step it up, Nina.

dark_blue_mania

Thank you, Eva. Amanda Pete - that's exactly who JB looks like. She only looks like herself in the bottom-left picture.

What stores? Thanks!

The movie looks like shit too.

The entire editorial is ho hum and I don't find either of these ladies remotely interesting BUT who wouldn't want to read the article with the headline: "I agreed to a threesome for my husband's birthday"?

I like the blue Mizrahi and the lavender machesa.
the photoshoot looks kinda nice.

I've never really been a fan of Posh - so, like Judy and others, I'm surprised that I'm liking a lot of what I've seen of VB's dresses.

As for Jennifer and Jessica? It's sad that two such pretty and young actresses have both apparently had a fair amount of work done to their faces.

Having just seen "Leave Her to Heaven" on dvd, I'm awestruck at how amazingly and naturally beautiful Gene Tierney was. They don't make them like that anymore I guess.

TampaBay, in Europe they're on sale in Selfridges and Harrods. In Harrods they've only a couple of models left, not this one. There is a shop in Berlin, nothing, and Corso Como. In the US, I believe Neiman Marcus stocks them.

Online, NAP is the only stockist, but at the moment they only have a couple of dresses left from last season. They say they're waiting for Spring stock though (if there's any left).

Whatever. Boring shoot for what looks like a horrible American knockoff of "Love Actually", which wasn't the greatest Brit film to begin with. I really can't stand these "arranged" marriages!

Styling is meh. I like the Marchesa. VB's stuff is okay.

I like it overall. I do have to say that Jennifer is outshining Jessica by quite a bit.

What?! If Marie Claire claims Jenn & Jess are besities...believe it! La Nina wouldn't allow it otherwise!

(giggle)

The shoot is a snore...pretty dresses except I'm not a fan of Becks...

That blue Beckham dress looks like denim.

Meh on the photoshoot. The VB dresses are OK, but I unfortunately don't look good in crayon box blue or yellow.

I cracked up at the cover article, "Pretty is Back! Get the look: Healthy hair, fresh skin, bright eyes." I guess this is MC's version of a PSA. "Want to look in style? Lay off the heroin. That look is so pre-Millenium.

i(don't)likeit

Blah. My entire reaction to this was, "Look! Jennifer Garner is prettier than Jessica Biel, and here's proof!"

Ugh I just read the first part of that article on the Marie Clare website and it is pretty bad. MC is making these two obviously strong and amazing women sound like giggling airheads. There is absolutley no content in the beginning of that article - I hope it gets more in-depth as you read on - otherwise, if I were Jen or Jessica, I'd be really unhappy with my portrayal.

However, they both look FABULOUS in those photos.

I absolutely love Jen Garner. I don't really have an opinion about the other one...and these photos kinda reinforce that. Jen is a WAY better "model" than Jessica! It looks like Ms. B just plastered on smile #23, except for that one shot where she wore "pensive." (and FWIW, I have it from a reliable source that Ms. G is delightful IRL as well.)

The clothes are OK I guess. I liked the big orchid-y Marchesa, but not the other one. Kinda "eh" on the Mizrahi & the Beckhams.

BUT, "I was impressed by Victoria Beckham in her stint as American Idol audition judge" Yes, me too. I've had to re-think the automatic dislike for her that I've had for a while now. She seemed quite real, with an actual personality. Good for her.

Ew

forced friendship and goofiness to hawk a terrible looking movie? I'll pass.

Adore Jennifer Garner. I've also heard she is quite sweet, a devoted mommy, and an all-around goof who loves to laugh. She looks pretty here, but this is such an unremarkable spread. The dresses are just OK, the girls are pretty, but none of it is special. Completely forgettable.

Some have suggested Jessica Biel looks like she's had work done. Her face has always been a bit unique. She's pretty, yes, but not in a conventional way. Her cheekbones have always been that wide and high, and her lips have always looked like that. To me it just looks as though her face is maturing. She doesn't look like the young ingénue anymore. She looks all grown up.

Also, add me to the list of those falling for Victoria Beckham. Between designing dresses that can flatter all body types, and the genuine kindness she's shown on American Idol, I'm really growing to like her. She has such a dour, unsmiling look, so it's surprising to see how warm she truly is.

That headline cracked me up too, but your take is better than mine which was more "Right, because pretty was soo out for a while there."

That article reminds me of something Janeane Garofalo said about seeing a similar headline on a magazine cover: "'Pretty is in! A return to glamor this season! A pretty face is your best asset.' As opposed to last season. When ugly girls had a free ride. When back fat was all the rage"

Hee.

I couldn't get over how huge JB's head looked compared to JG's head. It was as if they were photoshopped together it was so out of proportion. Which one is the freak? Giganto head or shrunken head?

that model Bregje Heinen was way too thin. yes, all of the models are tiny tiny skinny girls, but her bones are much more visible than any of the others.

i like the victoria beckhams, which shocks me, bc i never thought her stuff would be nice. the other dresses are too froofy for me.

If it wasn't for the Big Gulp, it would look like they were trying out poses for "Got Milk?".

Yet again, another magazine cover with bland, generic, overexposed actresses. God, I long for the return of actual models.

Jennifer is very cute.

TLo, Is Roland Mourat (sp?) designing for VB?

You guys are hilarious. Love the purple flower frock!

Biel's cover dress... I have seen that on about 5 different people this week alone.
I wonder if it's the same long swath of toilet paper worn, dyed, and passed along?

Hello??? Does anyone else not notice JG's cover "fuchi" face? Girl looks like she's got poo poo under her nose.
Disclosure: I do not find the appeal in Jennifer Garner. She looks like an elf to me.

honesty.not.pc

I am I a total loser if I really like this?

They seem cute and down to earth. I kinda like it. Like an editorial for regular people who think high fashion S&M editorials with men in skirts are a little weird and creepy.

Back to the mall for me :p

that marchesa dress is the most interesting thing about this entire spread.

Like everyone else said, the lavender Marchesa is GORGE. But the airheaded pose and Big Gulp ruins it.

I see zero effort put into this editorial. The background is a rented warehouse, and I can imagine some crew member going, "Oh, use my Big Gulp as a prop! It'll be cute and quirky but FASHION!"

The photo with them wearing the Posh dresses? I know those smiles very well as I was in a sorority. That smile is the classic "Oh, you're taking a picture? Yes, of course we like each other.... yeah... friends!"

Liked the pretty dresses, found the concept awkward but sort of delightful in a hilarious "REALLY?" kind of way.

No bangs Jennifer! Sheesh!

Jennifer Garner would sooner be real friends with Jessica Alba, not Biel. They are both new moms!

Where as wasn't Biel the one whining about how beautiful women don't get good movie roles?

Oh, am I supposed to comment on the clothes?

When did Jessica Biel become so gorgeous?! She slipped right under my radar, I think--or I really wasn't paying attention. She is breathtaking, and wears every dress better than the model in the accompanying photo.
